Politics / Oil & Gas Training Centre In Ondo Inaugurated By The FG by sanmiade001: 2:30pm On Jan 22, 2019
FG Inaugurates Oil & Gas Training Centre In Ondo

The Presidential Amnesty Programme on Friday commissioned oil and gas vocational training centre at Agadagba -Obon Ese -Odo Local Government Area – the Niger Delta region of Ondo State.

Prof. Charles Dokubo,Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme at the event in Ese-Odo thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for making the Amnesty Programme stronger in recent times.

Dokubo said his office had refocussed the training of ex-agitators,revealing that the centre was partnering the Petroleum Training Institute,Effurun for training and certification.

He said it did not take him much time after assuming office to figure out the reason why about 9000 out of 30000 enlisted agitators have remained untrained and not integrated into the society properly.

“I realised that so much money was being expended on the felicitation of vocational training for our delegates in privately owned vocational training centres and managed by individuals.

I made it clear that during my time, as chief executive of the programme, approval will not be given to training of any of our delegates at vocational training facilities outside this country,” he said.

He reiterated that the president loves Niger-Delta region, thanking the national assembly for the support given to them so far.

In an interview with newsmen after inaugurating the project, the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi thanked the president for provision of such massive facility in the state.

Ajayi urged the people of the state to make good use of the facility and guide it like their personal property.

“Gigantic project like this is in my local government?, honestly I must commend President Muhammadu Buhari and also the initiator of the presidential amnesty programme.

My assessment! our people should exploit this opportunity, we should not play with it, we should guide it and take it as our project so that we will take over the oil industry as already planned by Mr Dokubo, honestly, it’s a wonderful thing,” he said.

Politics / My Past Election Rigging Haunts Me - Obasanjo by sanmiade001: 2:16pm On Jan 21, 2019
APC: Obasanjo's past on election rigging haunts him:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the allegations of former President Olusegun Obasanjo that the ruling party and President Muhammadu Buhari were planning to rig the February 16 and March 2 elections with the assistance of security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). APC accused Obasanjo of being obsessed with his election rigging crime in the past. National Publicity Secretary of APC, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said that the party has no reason to rig elections. According to him, the achievements of the present administration would be a good testimonial during elections. Faulting Obasanjo’s allegations, APC said that the 2003 and 2007 general elections conducted by former President Obasanjo were nothing to write home about as they were rigged. He said: “When you are adept at a particular thing, it is what you know how to do very well. For the eight years of Obasanjo, all the elections he conducted were rigged.

In fact, government policies were determined by whatever mood he finds himself. All the institutions of government were brought under his wings. And what he did for those eight years is what is haunting him. He cannot imagine that it is possible for a government to allow INEC to exercise the statutory independence that it has.

“We have had about 93 elections or more since APC came to power. And you can be sure that all those elections were conducted without any interference by this government. In fact, if there is anything you want to credit this government with, it is the fact that institutions are allowed to fulfill their mandate without anybody interfering. “So we can understand where the former President is coming from; his past is haunting him. He must be imagining the way he did it. He must have consulted the books of how he did it and found clear that if they use the same method that he is used to, this is what is going to happen.

The 2003 and 2007 elections were nothing to write home about; they happened under President Obasanjo. We all knew how the elections went. “For us in APC, votes would count. We will have a free, credible and fair election. We have no reason to want to rig the election. Ourachievements speak for us.

President Obasanjo should adjust himself to the reality of the imminent defeat that is starring him at the face. “He (OBJ) has carried himself about as the dispenser of our destiny. And God is showing him clearly that he has just only been lucky and the favour that God has done to him, he now considers as things he has done himself.

“I think it is time he smells the coffee. This election will come; it will be free and fair. APC has no reason to rig it; you have seen that from the rallies we have done. “The same party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that said our candidate is going to campaign by proxy is now showing concern that our President is doing too much. What a shame! President Obasanjo should adjust himself and after February 16, he would realise he is not God.”

OSINBAJO GETS ROUSING WELCOME IN OWO

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday, 18th January, 2019, was received admist pomp and peagantry at Owo, during his visit to the ancient town in continuation of the door - to-door campaign for the President Muhammadu Buhari's re-election.

Owo is the home town of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.

The ancient town was agog as the Vice President visited the Palace of Olowo of Owo where he addressed the Monarch and other traditional Chiefs. It was a lock down as both vehicular and human movement was halted for over 30 minutes.

Governor Akeredolu appreciated Osinbajo for visiting the town. The Governor who spoke in Owo dialect assured the Vice President of the support of the people of Owo and the entire state.

The Vice President said the coming election is for the progress of the town, Yoruba nation and the entire country.

He said " Even Buhari's enemies know that he's truthful and has integrity. Where we are today, we need a truthful person to progress our nation. Nigeria is blessed, but there is too much corruption and that's why we must choose truthful leader. "

At a town hall meeting where the VP addressed a mammoth crowd who filled the expansive Hall of Mydas Hotel, Owo, he reeled out the achievements of the administration of President Buhari.

He explained that the Buhari's administration will do more in term of infrastructural developmental and Social Intervention Program if re-elected for a second term.

The Olowo of Owo, Oba Folagbade Olateru Olagbegi thanked the Vice President for his visit. The monarch demanded more Federal presence in Owo.

We’ll deepen efforts to secure Ondo – Akeredolu
Ondo State government has vowed to deepen efforts at ensuring those saddled with the responsibilities to secure the country possess the requisite capacity to perform.

The state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who stated this in Akure yesterday said the government is working assiduously to reposition the security framework of the state.

The governor during the state’s first security summit titled: “Improving the Security Architecture of Ondo State for Sustainable Peace”, said professionals of unmistakable imprints of experience who were resource persons at the summit will contribute significantly to the security of lives and property in the state and scale up the state index on the ease of doing business.

He noted that insecurity has been a major challenge globally, describing the provision of adequate security as capital intensive and called for the need to involve all well-meaning individuals to ensure a crime-free environment.

The Governor said total reliance on government to achieve the lofty objective may not be enough to completely address the menace.

He said the present administration is embarking on ambitious programme of massive infrastructural development to create an enabling environment that will transform the state to an industrial hub.

Akeredolu expressed the belief that the outcome of the summit will contribute significantly to the security of lives and property as well as scale up the index on the ease of Doing Business in the state.

While describing insecurity as a major global challenge, Akeredolu said there was hardly any continent without its own peculiar socio-economic issues.

He explained that the African continent grapples with serious challenges of existence which have had debilitating impact on their development.

Poverty, occasioned by incessant warfare, inclement climatic conditions, unproductive economies in a competitive and unfriendly ambience and above all, visionless leadership, make the geo-political space occupy an unenviable position in global affairs.

According to the governor, the understanding of the current issue of insecurity as a global challenge will assist us to adopt the right measures to combat the menace appropriately.

He explained that the summit could not have come at a better time as the issue of security was becoming more complex, complicated and compounded by the very circumstances which define us as a country and our relentless quest for peace and progress.

In his welcome address, Chairman of the Summit Planning Committee, Mr Jones Ogunmusire said the summit was designed to make the state safe for its inhabitants, investors and also make it a safe-haven for capital inflow.

Ogunmusire who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Administration and Policy Planning, mentioned the summit objectives to include; appraising the current security architecture in the state and project the future of the state.

He said it was also aimed to design on appropriate funding arrangements and to produce suitable policy document on the sustainable development of the State.

He stated further that views and recommendations expressed at the Summit and Memoranda already received from the public would be harnessed, processed and developed into a draft Security Policy Document that will be presented to Government for consideration of the Security Council, adding that those that would require legislation would be sent to the State House of Assembly.

Delivering a lecture on the theme, a Professor of Criminology and member, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Femi Odekunle, suggested among others, the establishment of an advisory social-science based’ State Crime Prevention and Control’ body for a crime-free environment.

He explained that the body would be for articulation and coordination of the objectives of crime prevention/control instrumentalities in the state as well as for crime/criminal justice administration data collation/analysis and production for regular inputs into the state’s development and security planning.

Odekunle also suggested the execution, to start with, of an ‘Area Crime Prevention /Control strategy’, based on a state-wide victim survey, to reduce criminal victimization of citizens in the state.

adamsfeyisayo:
APC Reacts To Atiku’s US Visit

All Progressives Congress (APC) US chapter has berated the visit by former Vice-President and People’s Democratic Party‘s Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to the United States.

The party said his visit does not out-rule the alleged corruption cases against him and he should still be held accountable.

Atiku, yesterday arrived the US after 13 years, and for the first time since he left office as Nigeria’s vice-president.

Through a statement, issued by Adeshegun Labinjo, chairman, US chapter of APC, the party said even though it does not object to Atiku’s entry into the US, “the questionable character of the individual does not evaporate because he has stepped on the soil of America”.

“A thief remains a thief no matter where he or she visits. Obviously, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has every reason to have kept off the USA given the cloak of corruption he is wearing,” the statement read.

“After a long spell of noticeable absence and factual concerns about Alhaji Abubakur Atiku’s antecedents in the USA arising from his dealings with former Congressman William Jefferson of Louisiana, who was convicted and served a jail term on account of bribery resulting from a telecommunication transaction in Nigeria, Atiku is now here again in the US.

“Congressional records point to the fact that Atiku engaged in money laundering through his wife who was then resident in the USA.

“We see Atiku, who is the 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of Nigeria, as a self-centered corrupt Vice President under President Obasanjo’s regime.

“Certainly, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku‘s entry and presence in the USA is a mockery of President Bush Presidential Proclamation 7750 which affirms the denial of US visa to foreign officials involved with corruption and other supporting legislations by the congress. APC-USA believes that Alhaji Abubakar Atiku should be held accountable for his involvement money laundering.”

Crime / Ondo Security Summit: Opening Speech By The Governor Of Ondo State by sanmiade001: 11:45am On Jan 17, 2019
The understanding of the current issue of insecurity as a global challenge will assist us to adopt the right measures to combat the menace appropriately. - @RotimiAkeredolu, SAN,
#OndoSecuritySummit

Protocol.
It gladdens my heart to see this distinguished audience attend this very important programme in the New Year. I join other appreciative citizens and our invited guests to express profound gratitude to the Almighty for sparing our lives to see this day. You will agree with me that the country is approaching yet another crucial moment in her political history. A time when all strategies and efforts must be harnessed to achieve a safe and peaceful environment has come upon us suddenly.
The general elections will be held in a couple of weeks from now. This Summit, therefore, could not have come at a better time. The challenges confronting the nation in the past years have been enormous. Specifically, the issue of security is becoming more complex, complicated and compounded by the very circumstances which define us as a country and our relentless quest for peace and progress. These problems appear daunting, threatening not only the tenuous harmonious relationship existing among the various ethnic groups, but also the very existence of the country.
Therefore, it has become incumbent on us to take proactive steps to confront these challenges. While we continue to hope for God’s guidance and protection, we must not fail to approach this delicate problem with all the seriousness it deserves. As we strive to work on the fundamental dysfunction, a reality of existence in our nation-state, consequent upon continual interactions among the various peoples of the country, attempts must be made to deepen our efforts in ensuring that all those saddled with the responsibilities to secure the country possess the requisite capacity to perform their duties appreciably.
Let me thank, specially, our invited guests for honouring our invitation to be part of this great event aimed at repositioning the security framework of our dear Sunshine State. There is no doubt that the outcome of this Summit will bear the unmistakable imprints of experience and benefaction. Our State awaits, eagerly, recommendations from this great gathering which, without doubt, will contribute, significantly, to the security of lives and property. It will also scale up our index on the Ease of Doing Business.

Insecurity has been a major challenge globally. There is hardly any Continent in the world without its own peculiar socio-economic issues. The African Continent grapples with serious challenges of existence which have had debilitating impact on the people’s development. Poverty, occasioned by incessant warfare, inclement climatic conditions, unproductive economies in a competitive and unfriendly ambience and, above all, visionless leadership, make the geo-political space occupy an unenviable position in global affairs. The combination of these factors has engendered insecurity. There is hardly any part of the Continent that is totally free of crises.
Nigeria, our dear country, has had her own share of this existential burden, a phenomenon usually associated with most transitional societies. Socio-economic crises have ensured that the country slips from one crisis to another. The deplorable situation often compels an uncritical and, most times, erroneous conclusion which suggests lack of capacity to appreciate the enormity of these challenges by the political leadership. The understanding of the current issue of insecurity as a global challenge will assist us to adopt the right measures to combat the menace appropriately.
Variants of this unfortunate phenomenon continue to mutate with a rather disquieting propensity in Nigeria. The proliferation of some militant groups shortly after the annulment of the June 12 Presidential elections in 1993 became accentuated with the hanging of Ken Saro Wiwa and his compatriots in 1995. The old practice of kidnapping citizens and foreigners alike, to demand justice for perceived wrongs, has metamorphosed into a more pernicious criminal venture. The militancy by some Niger Delta groups, the full scale war, erroneously dubbed insurgency, perpetrated by Boko Haram Militia and ISIL, kidnapping for financial gains and lately rituals, and more recently, the menace of marauding nomads, are sufficient to determine the corporate existence of the country. Every patriot should be concerned.
Unfortunately, our dear Ondo State, being an integral part of the country, has, inevitably, shared from the wave of insecurity. The strategic location of the State as a gateway to the North Central, South-South, South-West and South-East, coupled with her position as the State with the longest coastline, has facilitated the influx of criminal elements into Ondo State. We have been able to curtail the nefarious activities of these elements to a very great extent. The prompt and firm treatment meted to miscreants and hardened criminals deters effectively. We are hospitable, no doubt; but we view, gravely, deviant behaviours which threaten our collective peace.
As a Government, we are aware of the onerous responsibilities of leadership in this regard. We are committed, keenly, to maximum protection of lives and properties in the State. We possess sufficient understanding to appreciate that there can be no development without peace achieved through a sustainable programme of securing lives and property.
Our Administration is embarking on ambitious programme of massive infrastructural development to create an enabling environment which will transform Ondo State into an industrial hub. There exists also a huge potential of making our State a preferred tourist destination. We have also demonstrated, in practical terms, our intention to reclaim our place of pride in the field of agriculture. The indices of development in this sector are very encouraging. Our efforts to transform the coastal belt of the State, through the development of a Deep Sea Port, as well as the on-going road project from Lekki, Lagos State, across the costal belt to Igbokoda are all projected towards attracting capital and human inflow to the State.
It is, therefore, expedient that we put in place the necessary security architecture that would enhance all-round development of the State and protect the citizens and investors operating in the State. Today’s Summit, which has been aptly captured as "Improving the Security Architecture of Ondo State for Sustainable Peace and Development”, will generate robust discussions expected to herald the desired change in the security framework of the State. I have gone through the profiles of all the Resource Persons and I am convinced that the State is on the right track in her bid to re-position the Security architecture for greater achievements.
Government in the State has always been providing all it takes to ensure the security of lives and property. The current realities establish, clearly, the near-impossibility of total reliance on the Government to achieve this lofty objective. The provision of adequate security is capital intensive and, consequently, we need to involve all well-meaning individuals to ensure that the environment is free of crime.
It is not my wish to pre-empt the outcome of this Summit considering the array of experts assembled for the assignment. I am, however, quite confident that it will yield robust suggestions which, in turn, pave the path for solutions that envisages making our dear State a haven of peace and a dream destination for all investors. I, therefore, enjoin all participants to share their thoughts and experiences, freely. Our ultimate expectation lies in improved capacity and readiness to address, collectively, the challenges facing us in order to open up the economic space for industrial development.

While wishing you very fruitful deliberations, let me formally declare this Summit open to the Glory of God and for a better and safer Sunshine State.
I thank you for your patience.

Politics / Re: Ondo To Hold Security Summit Tomorrow by sanmiade001: 11:23am On Jan 17, 2019
it has already started, are you there?
pressy011:
The Ondo State government will tomorrow organise the maiden security summit at the International Centre for Culture and Events (The Dome) in Akure, the state capital.

The chairman of the planning committee, Jones Ogunmusere, noted that the summit became necessary due to the ravaging security challenges and the need to proactively look at the future security needs.

He said the developmental efforts of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to attract capital in-flow to the state also made it necessary for tighter security across the state.

According to him, the geographical location of Ondo State is such that people with criminal tendencies make inroad into the state, especially from neighbouring states.

Ogunmusere said it was imperative for the government to create a conducive environment for investors and their investments.

The theme of the summit is: Improving Security in Ondo State for Sustainable Peace and Development.

The chairman said security experts from across the country will critically examine security issues at the summit.

He said: “It is our hope that ideas and recommendations that will emerge from the this summit will be harvested, processed and packaged into a draft security policy document that will be submitted to Governor Akeredolu for the consideration of the State Security Council.”

Let me state unequivocally that we shall continue to create an enabling environment for the sector to thrive in our State and for every individual to engage in lawful businesses without let or hindrance. “We all know that power is critical to your activities. “It should be noted that in other parts of the world, artisans are a major source of employers of labour. They are expected to contribute a high percentage to our Gross Domestic Product (GDP).” Reacting to the state government’s gesture, the President-General of the state artisan group, Akomolafe Daisi thanked Governor Akeredolu for supporting the group with funds.
