Education / Re: I Ran Into My Classmate After 10 Years And She Did This by santakris(m): 7:59am On Apr 22, 2021 |
A reunion was planned.I was scared to attend. It was 5 years after university. What could I point to? I had read on some of my classmates that were now made men and women. I made up my mind not to attend. I did not want pity or to be the subject of gossip. Another class mate called me and encouraged me. “Come along, you might meet classmates that might assist you”. On that note i attended. The colleague picked me up. At the reunion, plenty of back slaps. Excitement and joy. I felt inadequate when people shared their current status. I sat in a lonely corner. What would I share? What success? What growth? Luckily, I was not called upon. The reunion ended. No one asked for my number. Many just glanced over me. I left feeling more dejected. Some months after, I got employed and also into farming. Luck shined and I prospered. Married. Sponsored one or two candidates and became a man of influence. It was 15 years. Time for another reunion. I got my best car out. Wore my most expensive attire.I desired to go and impress to tell my story. Now I have something to say. Then wisdom came to me and my wife advised otherwise. What was I going to get? False affection? Acclaims and applause. Some envy? I decided I would not attend. I would look for 5 of my classmates struggling to assist to heights. To make them feel more adequate. It would be discreet. I did. I supported them. Despite not attending, I was applauded for contribution. Last time I was there, none saw me. In my absence, my success spoke. They all noticed I did not come. I shook my head sadly. I had learnt a lesson. My friends would remain those that cared when I was poor. Not those that were friends with my cars and money in the bank. Note:- Please, let's reach out to mates who have not made it up the ladder and assist them. A Yoruba adage says "ajo je o dun beni kan o ni" eating together is not sweet if some in the group are indigent and not contributing. Not sure if I got that right, but, let the message sink. One great lesson I learnt during this lockdown is that nothing else matters but our relationship with God and people. Ki Olorun ran wa lowo o, Amin. Remember that your achievements lie in the number of lives you touch positively. COPIED This may inspire you and others. Have a wonderful day 28 Likes 1 Share |

Politics / Re: North-East Govs Bemoan Inability To Try Boko Haram Suspects by santakris(m): 6:56am On Apr 18, 2021 |
Imagine for a minute that you are a trained soldier. In fact, a Lieutenant. You have a wife and two kids. Now, imagine that during the quarterly rotation, you were sent to Bornu to fight insurgence (Boko Haram) On this fateful day, as you were moving with your platoon. There was an ambush. Gun fire ensured. You shot with all you've got. You know that you have a slim chance of surviving the attack. As you were running out of ammo, you called john, your buddy, for fresh supply. No response. You glanced and saw John's head split into two halves. By your left is Barry, his torso turn and one of his arm lying 10 ft away. With nothing to fight with, you made a run for it and took a deep dive into the abondoned crater while bullets were getting fired at you. You passed out When you woke, you saw yourself in the hospital. The doctor came in. "Officer, you are awake, we did an emergency surgery. We had to amputate you" We are sorry. You then asked. 'What of my team mates ?" "Well, you lost 18 men and 2 survivors", the doctor replied. "You and Barry. Barry is still in intensive care." Now, 3 months later, at the defence headquarters. Your commanding officer, General Gida told you. "You are back, lieutenant " "Good news! We rounded up all the terrorist that attacked your platoon after in another battle confrontation." They are now in rehabilitation center. "Can I see them?" you asked 'Sure!' You got wheeled to the center. They opened the door. And yes. 'There they are!' Across the hall, Young men in white flowing gowns were eating fried and Jellof rice with multiple chicken parts. Some were drinking wine. Laughter filled the air. Having a ball. You were told they will soon be taken abroad on scholarship. Government sponsored. As you were getting back to the generals office. Just outisde the defence headquarters gate, you saw the wives of your team, now widowed, as they agitate with high voices and placards. "We have been abandoned!" "Pay us our husbands benefits!" "We are hungry" Just imagine all that. ------ It is the reality of a Nigerian Soldier in the corridor of terrorism. Written by Afam B. C. Nnaji. 50 Likes 8 Shares |

Science/Technology / Reactions As Nigerian Man Builds 8-seater Motorcycle by santakris(m): 8:21pm On Mar 28, 2021 |
A Nigerian man has shown a new level of creative ingenuity that not many people would dream of doing. He took a regular 2-seater bike and turned it into a motorbike equipped to carry up to 8 people at once. Photos of the man’s invention have gone viral on social media and netizens have shared their thoughts on the innovatively designed machine. Although some think it is commendable, many are of the opinion that it is not appealing and it unnecessary to want to carry 8 people on a bike, which is a lot riskier as they stand a higher chance of having accidents and serious casualties. https://www.correctng.com/poverty-capital-poverty-inventions-reactions-as-nigerian-man-builds-8-seater-motorcycle/ 1 Like
