Science/TechnologyThe Always Best Connected (ABC) Service by sardius(op):
The diversification of wireless communication has come to a point where end user communication requirements are easily met through the amalgamation of existing technologies. In places such as hotels, airports and conference centers, the need for high bandwidth access to the internet can be easily met with more than one existing technology, to create an enhanced end user experience. Combining the features of access technologies, such as DSL, Bluetooth and WLAN over cellular systems such as UMTS, CDMA2000, 2.5G, 3G, 4G, end users can stay connected in the best ways possible to applications and devices of their choice.

A user’s connectivity preferences will change as a function of the size and ability of his/her device, its application requirements, security features, existing operator policies, available networks infrastructure and network coverage. Depending on these preferences a user may require single access or parallel multiple access and from the technology pool, this is allocated as occasion demands to ensure that the end user at all times has the best connection.

This however creates complexity not only at the technical solutions level but also at the business relationship level between the operator and the service providers.

A good scenario is Mike in the middle of a conference and gets an important call over Skype on his smart phone and decides to take it, as he is connected to the 4G network via the conference center’s WLAN hotspot, he excuses himself from the auditorium and begins talking in the lunch room outside. He is informed he has to return to the office for a meeting with a new client and exits the conference while switching to Skype chat with his supervisor at the office. While getting to the subway, after being disconnected from the conference hot spot, his device begins searching for other available accesses and finds 3G coverage, the smart phone then reconnects the Skype application over the 3G network and continues Mike’s Skype session. While Mike’s was on the way, his supervisor at the office begins a video conference session with the new client and Mike as participants. The Skype session begins to adapt to the limited device capability and access technology and gives Mike speech and text components only. When Mike arrives at the office he transfers the Skype video conference session from his smart phone to his laptop, which is now connected to the WLAN in his office building, the Skype application discovers that the device and access network capabilities change and includes the video component back into Mike’s session. Alternatively Mike could setup his own private area network (PAN) comprising his smart phone, tablet and lap top computer and stay connected using the 3G network on his smart phone. Meaning that all devices can stay in sync continually over his PAN and applications such as email, calendar and phone book can stay up to date.

This is a good example of how wireless technologies can come together to keep the end user connected in the best way continually, to any point on the internet using the access networks that are most suitable at each point in time. This has been termed as the Always Best Connected (ABC) service and its deployment requires infrastructure for authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) along with support for levels of mobility, application adaptability, virtual private networks (VPN) and business relationship between actors.

It looks like you didn't pay for the renewal of your domain when it was due, then it went into redemption and became available for re-registration weeks later .
Before it was registered again through name.com by someone who needed it.

You probably abandoned your business or something for a while, cause its quite unusual for you website to go offline and you don't contact your host to know what went wrong, also neglecting recurrent email reminders that tell you its time for renewal is really a sign of neglect .

In reality its very hard for someone to take your domain like that, cause after it goes off due to expiration you would normally have 60 days to renew it, durring which no one else can sign up for it.

So be more careful next time smiley

TravelTeenage Sailor Nears End Of Trip Round The World by sardius(op): 11:22am On Jan 12, 2012
AMSTERDAM (AP) — Teenage Dutch sailor Laura Dekker is nearing the finish of her solo sailing trip around the world almost the same way she began it — in good spirits, despite endless debate about the terms under which she is allowed to be at sea.
Now 16, Dekker is on the final leg, a long stint from Cape Town, South Africa, to the Caribbean island of St. Maarten, where she set sail in 2010. Amid blustery weather, she's on pace to reach port in Philipsburg around Jan. 24, her lawyer Peter de Lange said in a telephone interview Wednesday.

PhonesCanadian Man Uses Ipad To Enter Us by sardius(op): 11:08am On Jan 12, 2012
TORONTO (AP) — A Canadian man who realized he forgot his passport as he approached the U.S. border found a new way to gain entry — his iPad.
Martin Reisch said Tuesday a slightly annoyed U.S. border officer let him cross into the United States from Quebec after he presented a scanned copy of his passport on his Apple iPad. Reisch was a half hour from the border when he decided to try to gain entry rather than turn back and make a two-hour trek back home to Montreal to fetch his passport.

EventsStampede In University Of Johannesburg by sardius(op): 11:05am On Jan 12, 2012
It was not too hard to figure out there would be a lot of tense people at UJ on Tuesday. South Africa’s university system has room for 150,000 first-year students. One-hundred-and-eighty-thousand matriculants whose results qualify them for further study won’t get a place. The University of Johannesburg received 85,000 applications for 2012 but can only take 11,000 students. When prospective students arrived at the Bunting Road campus for late registration on Monday, many of those places were already filled through conditional and unconditional offers.

EventsInsight: Anc Centenary Cleansing (south Africa) by sardius(op): 11:00am On Jan 12, 2012
BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa (Reuters) - A black bull bellows and snorts in its death throes, sacrificed with a ceremonial spear in an age-old African cleansing ritual to ward off evil spirits and appease the souls of ancestors.  South African President Jacob Zuma led the purification ceremony at the weekend at the site where the ruling party he leads, the African National Congress (ANC), was born 100 years ago. The birth launched decades of exile, protest and armed struggle that finally ended apartheid white-minority rule in 1994, when elections ushered in a multi-racial democracy.
