Guys, I've been afraid to do my electrical ever since I got this quote from my electrician. Please someone should help me check these. My house is 3 bedroom bungalow with 4 toilets.

Are these materials too much? Can anyone supply me original and complete cable with warranty at cheaper rate? I'm in abuja

Way too much IN MY OPINION.

I say this having 2 things on mind.

1. My house is a duplex and I didn't buy this much
2. My electrical Engr did an estimate for another duplex recently and he didn't get this much cables (pls don't ask me to link him to you, he's not available)

3. 16mm is run from your meter to the DB - how far is that distance to require 2 coils (yes he needs red and black but a fraction of 1 is OK - not the full coil) eg you might need half of red and half of black.

My comments are based on the 3 above - still seek advice from another electrical expert.

Tilers charge btw 750 - 1000 these days.

The amount depends on his quality of work.

Just negotiate to what you can afford.

I'd love to hear your thoughts about this.

If people wld sit or walk / stand on it... I ts not advisable.

I've used it in a similar situation and it requires a lot of maintenance from time to time... Too frequent to advice its usage.

Good evening everyone, pls someone should help me to check this quotation i got
plastering of parapet- 140k
plastering of building - 400k
plastering of fence - 250k (70x120)
german floor - 100k
5 bedroom bungalow

overcharged or okay?

Plastering of parapet - depends on how well or how bad the parapet is (IF its good, there is no need to plaster it, but to consider plastering means it's probably bad so 140k is not too much, if a good work wld be done.

Plastering of a 5 bedroom flat at 400k is not bad... OK

Plastering of fence @ 250k (let's see the design) but 250k is TOO HIGH for a 70x120 land fence.

German floor at 100k is OK - If you can get a price reduction, even better.

Dimensions (m):

This is my building I was talking about that the foundation was low @ Saydfact and oda gurus in the house. My house is also the lowest point in that street. I was advised to do clay tiles. What do u think I can do too

Morning sir,
if most of the water comes from the road (where the man stood to take the pics), then construct a gutter (about 600mm deep) on this side of the building we're seeing and channel the water into a shallow well (dig a well, of about 3 rings on the left side).

This should solve the problem.

IF the water comes from the right also, then repeat on that side too (ditto for the four sides).

Keep me updated.

Boss, not trying to argue with you, but my research showed that it's actually cheaper than using block...

Infact, I used to think using brick will make the house hot, but I discovered it rather makes the house colder, even when outside is hot (those of us that used calabash pot for water will understand)...

I appreciate your response and look forward to more... Maybe there's something I don't know, why people don't use it

Thanks boss.
Let's analyse it.

What makes brick more expensive.

1. Block is about 5k - 6k per m2 while brick is about 10k - 15k

2. Block has zero cost for transportation while brick could cost as much as 200k or more to transport the entire bricks needed on a 3 bedroom bungalow (about 20,000 pcs).... If you're in the same state where it's being produced or millions if its Abuja to Lagos and the project is a duplex.

3. For conduit pipes, you break blocks and plaster back, while you'll need mechanical tools and or accessories and ducts to make that possible in brick.

4. Labour for block is readily available at about N1000 per m2 while Labour for brick is scarse and more expensive (even worse if its the local home baked bricks)

5. Any error on laying blocks can be concealed with plastering, while you'll need to condemn the brick and start afresh or end up with a bad looking structure. WINK!

6. For the locally made bricks, available of clay soil is an issue....

You're right.
Brick makes the indoor cooler on hot days and makes it warmer on cold night.

We all shd be using brick in 9ja... But the cost is killing ooh... Lagos Poly started with brick at their permanent site but had to abandon the project and completed it with blocks.

I'll like to read about your research, we can learn from it also.
Thanks.

A plumber just quoted 150k for me for 1500 litres.

If you go yourself, YES they'll show you the rubber and plastic.

Plastic is usually about 20k cheaper than rubber... Don't know of current prices thou.

Lolz.
This is actually funny to me.
We all do business too, like buying and selling.
A deal is complete and completed when buyer and seller have agreed and money has been fully paid and received together with receipt. Once this is done, they have become the buyers property irrespective of where the goods is stored or kept.
In pursuance of above, the issue of keeping goods in his warehouse location is alien to the deal. As a matter of fact, this is not the first time I would pay for cement and as well keep them in his store till I will use them.
If the seller wants to charge me another fees for keeping my (PURCHASED CEMENT) property in his warehouse because it's occupying space, then he can issue an invoice and I will gladly pay up the serve charge for keeping my cement in his store.
I think we are saying the same thing but in a different way.
I am not not going there to argue with anybody. I am going there to carry my cement which I have paid for and I won't take any refund.
Will he refund me if the price of cement drops to N3000? The answer is "NO".

Last question - the answer is YES. if you want your money back.

Law is different from WHAT IF oh.

LOL thou, keep us updated on what happens...

Please guys/everybody. Una good evening oo.
Abeg I have a question.

Some weeks back I bought like 30 bags of cement @ 5800 from a seller and the money has been paid in full. Secondly I told the seller to keep those cement for me in his shop which means that I have not gone to carry the cement because I have not gotten other materials ( like gravel etc) that I would need on the site. So the cements are still with the seller.

Now the price of cement has gone up, hope the man won't tell me to add more money b4 I go carry my cement oo lipsrsealed lipsrsealed
I am asking so that I go know whether I have right to display madness in his shop if the man try to act funny or I should just keep my cool.
Please I need response on this from professionals in the house.

is warehousing free? NO.

Expect to pay a certain amount more - but no the current rate. however expect to pay more.

Let me explain - If his shop can accommodate 1000 bags of cement only, your 30 bags is depriving him from re-stocking 30 bags because its taken up space. In a normal situation he wont mind, but with the present situation its a lose for him too.

The other argument is, but he has used your money for business too, YES - that's why you wont pay whatever the present price is but you'll pay an extra on the amount.

My Opinion thou - remember business has rules including IF YOU CAN'T DELIVER, RETURN THE BUYER'S MONIES.

The worst that wld happen if you take it too hard on him is a police case and the police wld only ask him to refund 100% of the money you gave him.... (see why shouting shd not be an option?)

Goodluck

Update on how it is going. Any advice on this? Meanwhile i wanted to add piller. I was waiting for their quotation but never knew they have already started the foundation already. The house is currently being built in the village in Oyo state with very dry land. Infact the town is known for having rock everywhere. The bricklayer complained about how strong the ground was and how it took them weeks to be able to dig the ground. Kindly check their work so far and tell me what i should do. Meanwhile since there is no pillar, i am thinking i should do round Lintel or what do you think? It is a bungalow. Need advice.

Just looked at this pics again, the possibility of the circled (see pics) collapsing during filling is high... almost certain.

You need columns and a ground beam to be double sure of safety and prevent loss of funds.

read my article >> https://www.nairaland.com/5002180/what-did-he-wrong-why
building belongs to a Nairalander also.

Your position can be seen as contradictory. If you want to tie the building, you can as well use all round chaining, if you can use roof beam or ground beam. All na the same outcome: they spread the load at the level introduced.

All round chaining apart from spreading the load, has one unique advantage: you can knock down walls to make changes or introduce openings safely without the fear of collapse and the added need to introduce lintel.

WELL!
The bolded is wrong - but I don't want to make it about me vs you.
Thanks.

Any drawback on this?

My personal opinion:

A lintel is a bridge over a short opening, it's not a structural element hence, I see it as a waste of money everytime.

If you want to tie the building round, do a roof beam or a ground beam.

Lintel is NOT a structural element that's why our fore fathers used wood, bamboo etc and that's why no Engineer designs a lintel.

Goodluck.
