Interesting.

I like how the buildings are moderate and easy to maintain structures.

Congrats to the widows.

Exactly. Research! Don’t just do a few ‘negotiation’ with them and see yourself as a macho-man negotiator.
The carpenter guy is ready to swi.ndle you.

Don’t just throw your money at those people, except May be you didn’t sweat for the money.

ALLOW ME SUMMARIZE EVERYTHING YOU'VE SAID in your various post.

1. He shdnt trust the aluminium man, because artisans are out to Swindle (in your words)

2. There is no difference and infact we can't know the difference between Tower aluminium and other brands, they all look the same.

3. He shd go and buy himself to avoid being cheated by someone he knows (obviously he's not giving the work to sm1 he met on the street, he must have known him somehow)

Now... My reasoning.

You're telling him not to trust someone he knows But he shd trust someone he doesn't know (the seller) to give him the original aluminum that he CANNOT differentiate?

If I am a novice who has read all your statements, I'll quickly give it to the aluminium man and rest.

What's the guarantee that the seller would not swindle you, or that he wld give you the original product, or that he won't even cut corners?

Bro..... If man decides to do everything himself because he no wan lose money, he wld leave that money behind and another person go spend am..... He won't even save more than 2k per window by buying himself .... All this wahala on top 20k if he has 10 windows ?

I'm sorry, but I won't take your advice but offcourse I respect that, that's your opinion.

Goodluck.

hmmmmm, if u do dat pls give us the feed back,

My best advice for u is to get quotes and compare sir, from there u will get where u are going, mind u no body want to do free work, those people u want to go and meet will still get there own too, and end of the day end up with more than ur budgets, there is no how u can gets it, the best is to find genuine person and do ur work with normal money thanks u,

Absolutely.

No way he won't regret.
And if he goes this way on aluminum that's relatetively cheap.. He wld attempt it on electrical that's expensive.. Then trouble starts in few months time.

There are some things with all my years in the industry that I don't even buy myself..

Just pay a trusted person to deliver your job.

Everyone is happy.

Hi All,

In building construction, is there anything wrong putting doors and windows immediately after roofing before plastering, electrical and plumbing works?

What should be the correct order after roofing especially if I want to suspend the project and do the remaining works gradually after some time?

I want to do one more stuff after roofing and divert my funds to another thing but I'm thinking of just putting the doors and windows but don't know if it makes sense.

Thanks

The answer is NO.
electrical conduit and pipe work wld generate a lot of dust, dirt and these could damage the door / window surface (since you can't control workers always).

I personally won't advice it.

Even door frames can't be done until you're ready to plaster.... because that's what hold the doors...

Reconsider your options.

Dear professionals
Please, my soak away floor basement was leaking water, the floor was prepared laying nylon and pouring concrete before block setting (that's around March), we prepared 6 head pan of sharp sand, 4 pan of 3/4 down granite and 1 bag of cement, it was poured dried without water so as to soak up the water from the leakage while it blocked the leakage surface... But it failed...
What can I do or which chemicals can I use to stop the water leakage?
Thanks in anticipation.

I wld have said do a precast and sink it after it cures but I blive you've gone pass that stage.

You'll need a pump.

Pump out the water from one end and cast from the other end.

Chemical: Hilti has a lot of this waterproof chemicals, Google them and also Silka latex to bond old and new concrete.

Good afternoon Everyone,

I humbly wish you screen the attached quotation for Aluminium Casement Window with the following details:

Glass Thickness- 5mm (Blue Mirror)
Thick material (Dull white)
Duration of Work-14 days.

Thank you in anticipation for your response.

In my opinion.
This quote is OK...

Negotiate or ask for discount and pay him to do the work.

Whatever you do, don't buy the materials yourself... You might end up regretting that. I said MIGHT.

Oga.

I am not an aluminum person o but let him break down what he will use to make each window.

Go to market ahead and do a preliminary study of costs of materials.

Measure each window together with him and do the recordings. Some up all that would be needed.
Go to market and buy them yourself. Give them to him to use while you monitor it. Just build in like 7% waste into the aluminum material. Waste in other materials may not the up to that or could above that. Max 10% across board.

You see those artisans, they are ev.il.
They pad anything padable.

You would be surprised it will take you half of what he quoted.

I'm sorry but there are some things you don't go to the market to price or buy when building. Aluminum, and electrical is part of them.

Pls, just negotiate and pay the man to do his job.

You even pay more when you go buy this things yourself...

I'll personally never advice this approach.... Except it's block, cement and somi wood.

In my opinion... You'll always end up paying more or buying fake.

That's very clear Sir. Thank you.

I have a 4 feet entrance, and in the drawing plan it shows that the entrance should be closed with a 4 feet sliding aluminum door.

Apart from sliding doors, is there any other design of aluminum doors that is combined with glass that I can use in a 4 feet entrance?

Not related but... In my opinion.

1. There are too many doors in the foyer (4)

2. Using a sliding door of 4feet means you only have 2 feet effective opening, this is too small to occupy some big size humans

3. If you must use sliding, then you might need to increase the size to 1800 or more.

1. Excavation for foundation
2. Labor for Footing Concrete
3. Concrete in Beam (Column)
4. Re-enforcement Bar (Steel) for beam and columns

Area of proposed main building - 174.894 sqm
The land is a table land and not swampy.....

I want to compare with the cost i was given

Its possible to get this.... But it's not possible without sharing the architectural design.

Send a WhatsApp message or check my thread if you want to DIY for guidance. (I have many articles on calculating estimates)

Family / Re: I Love Her But At Almost 40 Years Old, I Cannot Ignore Her Fertility Issues. by saydfact(m): 2:41pm On Nov 28, 2023
beekind:
I am the 2nd born out of 2 children, my elder brother has been married for some time with no kids as a result I am super careful with issues relating to fertility.
I am in my late 30s and have been dating a 27 year old lady for 4 months now, the relationship moved so fast as she is a perfect match for me .
I have met her family and she has met mine, we are already planning marriage and have started counselling sessions in her church.

She complained of irregular periods so I told her to do a hormonal profile test and see a gynecologist, turns out she has got PCOS.

I have done my own fertility test and I am fine, I am at a cross road now, I cannot afford to struggle with child birth considering my age and also my only other sibling still also having issues with the wife also still trying to get pregnant after many years.

The only other option would have been to ask her to try for pregnancy before marriage but she is a virgin and wants to keep it that way till wedding, besides if I disvirgin her, how will I be able to walk away incase she doesn't get pregnant ?

I am at crossroads now, its not too late but walking away at this point will be very costly for me since we have already started plans towards the wedding and our families are already in touch.

My heart is heavy and I am confused, I need good advise as I cannot discuss this with anyone.

Can it be treated?
Is there a percentage that she can give birth?

If both answers are Yes, then go ahead and marry her.

If there's a no, somewhere - it's better to part ways now than cause undule hardship for her or yourself in future.

Goodluck.

I have been in business and on Nairaland for more than 7 years if you don't think it wise that we had settled this offline or waited for his refund or order another material then you are both right.

You're making a big mistake...

I did a job for sm1 on NL many years back, but he didn't pay me even after asking severally.... But I let it go.

Over 2 years later, he called me and said he wanted to pay part of the money (2 years)... I was happy.

You already know the person you're dealing with is not ready to wait perhaps 2 years b4 you sell off the stock, THEN DO THE NEEDFUL, BORROW MONEY from anywhere and pay him.

It saves you a lot of explanation and also your business.

IF I WERE YOU, I'LL BORROW OR SELL SOMETHING NOW and pay him TODAY.

Well, I wish you all the best.

40bags to lay 2430 blocks for a fence? I've placed 1200 blocks for my fence and I've used just 14 bags so far.. Will mold more blocks cos it's just 8coach and I want to complete it to 10coaches... So basically, 28 to 34 bags will be enough for him depending on how it's being used

The fact you used 14 bags for 1200 blocks doesn't make it a standard..

It has already been done and installed quite a while ago

Then kindly stick to his advice.

Reduce the capacity of the tank, if its overloaded, you'll lose both the scaffold and the tank.... And that's another money ooh.. At that time it won't be his fault.

Another option is sell that one and build another to the capacity you want.

Wld he lay the blocks without casting a foundation?

I stated clearly in the post you replied that, THAT IS IF the foundation is not done.

Good evening Michlins your advice is needed please...

I already have 2100L tank at the site and intend to buy another 2100L to place on the stand...

So, here is the issue, I totally forgot to give the welder this information, only to remember this evening. To cut the long story short, he said the stand can't carry 2 of 2100L except 2 of 1500L at the top and that it can only carry 2100L in the middle... I asked him why and he said cos he is using 2m galvanized pipe whatever and we've already agreed on price @350... 200k has already been paid so please, what can be done now?

Note: we never discussed about what materials to be used cos I know nothing about it, I just told him that I needed an 18ft tank stand and he sent me the pictures below

Send the picture of what he's doing for you.

do you think the labour cost of 150k is ok?

I've seen a couple of people telling you 150k is okay for the work... I agree because they're only considering the block laying @N50 or N60. = about 145k for block laying only.

But in real sence, there is digging of foundation, and casting of blinding before the actual block laying...

You see why I think 150k was cheap?

My advice wld be don't negotiate down.. Pay him and make him happy.

Ditto for cement too to foundation.

Good morning All

Please, how many blocks will one bag of cement set?

I am doing my fence now on an uncompleted building i just bought and the bricklayer is saying i need 34 bags of cement for 2430 blocks?

Is this too much?

also, is there a method of calculating pay for bricklayers? he is charging me 150k for the entire fence - 2430 blocks.

I need advice please

You'll actually need more than even 40 bags (budget for 60 bags if it's foundation is not done yet) .... The bricklayer underestimated and the 150k is cheap.. Very cheap.

So assuming it was a longer wall would it have needed the coping beam. And lintel level beam to attach the new structure to the formal 1?

What you need is to lock the blocks... Even if u put a lintel on it without locking, it wld still giveaway or crqxk if it settles differently from others.

Lintels are meant for openings... So except there is one there... No need.

Hello house in a case where an amendment is to be done in a bungalow. I am insisting on moving the visitors toilet entrance to be inside the sitting room rather than in the varrender. So we need to both extend the v.t and put a wall to close out the varrender.

Would it be necessary to put a beam before setting the blocks or would the weight sit well on the German floor when casted?

And would an extra beam be needed on the lintel level too or we can just raise the blocks to leveling level?

Technically you're not doing a German Floor on this project....

So, it won't seat well... Dig the foundation and start the block from a few courses inside the ground

Raise the block all the way, it's not carrying any load except self.

Funny enough I asked this question few months ago asking for a review of watson steel doors, couldn't get a response. I guess lots of people don't buy watson doors for some reason. Well I decided to give it a trial, although for internal rooms. I got the white watson steel doors for high traffic areas,( entrance from dining to kitchen, hall way leading to rooms) and China american panel door for bedrooms for my project. The steel door feels strong and sturdy, aesthetically the white color is more appealing, hence more expensive. I got the white for about 53k last month, though its a bit more expensive now due to the dollar crises. It can use it for entrance door cos it's a security door, locks from the side top and bottom, although when it comes to durability,it can't be compared to these locally fabricated steel doors made of thicker steel materials (1-2.5mm).(locally fabricated are much stronger). On the average it's a nice door,if u love it go for it.

Challenge with most imported doors are they'll only last 1 year before you begin to change them.

The initial look and feel is not enough, durability is key.
