hmmm sayhi: I guess you haven't had to install a forum, cms, php framework, etc on your domain. Uploading a zip file/unzipping the zip file is usually how you get that done
lol, am a mac guy, Coda and Transmit baby. I don't need to use cpanel to install cms, or php framework. Using coda, i can write code and update simultaneously. drag and drop folders as well- nice and easy. Just thot I should have an alternative whenever am on windows. |
pie1ect:are you kidding? I will try it out ASAP! Thanks for that info. |
john4uu:Nothing is ever too late, saying its too late makes you sound like a quitter. Stop worrying about your GPA, and they might really not be looking at your admission letter(s). Stop worrying about being incompetent either, they know good TOEFL or GRE scores when they see one. ( I had 92 in my TOEFL, the consul saw it and said, oh! your test score is very good.) Since you passed well in both entrance exam, am sure they can figure just how intelligent you are. Your I-20 is what they look at for your major, was graduate or undergraduate degree written on there? |
john4uu:1. no 2. rightly so, better for the school to put you on provisional status (graduate degree) than a 2nd bachelors. provisional wont show on your i-20, so no way for the consul to tell (it'll just appear as a masters degree), but 2nd bachelors might cast doubt -my friend had a 2.5/5.0 GPA, wrote TOEFL, didn't write GRE, got an admission for MS computer science/information system, and got a visa. |
You transfer the files from your computer to your web host. this you can do by either using the cPanel of your hosting program (under "file manager" and manually browse to your files and upload to your web host (as you would if you were attaching a document in email) or you use an FTP program to do so (advantage here is that you can transfer files in bulk, unlike manual upload via cPanel).good luck!
yea, it'd be wonderful if cpanel can allow folder upload. arrrrgh! |
Note: 1) At least based on my experience, you can't use absolute pathing for includes. So if you are in secondary folder, it would be , /inc/filname.inc
- was referring to php_flag include_path "/home/files/myphpfiles/:." function |
I prefer to include the full path, and it is always better to test the existence of a file/or turn on error reporting, doesn't cost anything, that way, your code doesn't blow up. by the way, its always better to paste a snippet rather than have people guess what you might have coded wrong. |
taye007:How can you be sure the site was designed outside the country? - in the Latest NEWS section, I dont see why "NEWS" should be uppercase, also the header "Latest NEWS" doesnt need to rotate with the rest of the content, same goes for Read more button. - still on the latest NEWS section, it will be cool to have the title of the news listed out as links, since we are still going to click for more anyways. example: Latest News .glo rules .glo is for Naija .glo wins .glo is now 4g .more glo this would make for a neat layout rather than have too many rotating stuff on the front page -in the sections beneath the rotating images, have all the texts on 3 lines, some are on 4 lines while some 3 lines, make these lines consistent - and since all the "Find out more" links leads to same page, why dont you just have a single "Find out more" link? or create different pages - I also see no reason for the use of an iframe to load a text page -no reason to take users hostage with Terms and Conditions, when I click it, I cant do anything on the page anymore, make this a standalone pop up instead, so i can scroll through the terms while simultaneously scrolling through the main page I like the look and feel of the website, good work guys |
Dual Core:That envelope is absolutely useless - send to a friend? - like i dont have an email address |
don't know how the site looked previously, here is what I know now: - no redirect (gloworld dot com gives you a time out), who types w w w these days? - no online community - on the About Us page, there are 4 "About Us" headers, redundant (noticed this on other pages too) - headers are too big, I know the page I clicked, dont need a big font reminding of which page i am - navigational menu is across and also at the left sidebar, what is the use of 2 ? following up on yawa's comment: - please remove all the big headers and have "Contact Us" as a big header instead, rather than just put an envelope, there is nothing more important than providing a conspicuous means customers communication with you guys - it'd be cool to be able to register and view/pay your bills, make plan analysis and view your reports/call logs, keep in mind you are not designing this site for yourselves, its there for your customers and intending ones - very important to have an application where registered users can chat with your staffs (this will draw traffic to your site and save customers time of waiting to speak with your representative endlessly on the phone) - It should also create an automated response for questions customers might have -provide a call back app - customer service drives success -are your store locations phone-less ? please provide numbers for the store locations -newsletter sign up section where customers can get updates in their mail -users are skeptical about downloading documents from websites (except if its a bill or something similar), you can have a flash showing us your coverage areas, download should be an option - check the margins in your footer please |

Well, I guess Nigerians are just waking up to SEO friendly sites and its advantages. |
What do you think of it? Do you think it reflects the importance and purpose of the summit? Click around, note the layout, design, etc. What are your views? What could you have done differently? Don't just look at the home page and say, "It is okay".
Am not sure how the layout/design reflects the importance/purpose of a summit. Will a better layout make you want to attend? A site could reflect users' perception but the targeted audience would not really care how the site looks, am sure whoever visits probably want information on a summit's location or fees. So what matters to them (content) is out there. There are just a lot of redundant crap and I particularly loathe when you have flash on the front page and also keep flash on other pages. However, I dont see how a better design will help their cause. |
Its been in Yoruba for a long time now |
Have you tried Coda? |
not necessarily, the founder of facebook, microsoft etc have an unassailable and profound knowledge in IT, which was an edge, they didn't think to sell the idea to someone else who will feed them crap or tell them stuff they cant discern technically. You wont even understand what users want or how to achieve it when you dont understand the technicalities involve, so you'd have no excogitation unless you are buying the idea from someone else. |
Those who have been successful with social site knows so much about programming, design and architecture - if you don't know where to start or what to do next, outsource it! |
What was the disturbing news about zencart? Also, could you drop the urls for shopp and instinct (googling shows this is a wordpress plug in. If yes, don't bother as I won't be using a cms)? Use the english form to avoid the spam bot ![]() Thanks
Dont remember anymore. Yes the carts I mentioned are for wordpress. pie1ect:Tried to use magento on a site, it is so messed up. I had to put it on hold and will get back to it sometime next week (which I dont look forward to). There are so many errors you get when installing, you copy that error out, paste it on their site, you get a solution - I just wonder why they couldnt correct the errors in their installation files. I got it up an running after 4-5 days I think, now I have to figure my way around it. I read somewhere though that when it blows up, its big time! |
its more efficient - but i just loathe my HP, makes crappy noise and i cant bear touching the touch-pad |
I read something disturbing about Zencart few days back, was looking for a shopping cart as well, I went with instinct shopping cart, i also use Shopp cos it allows sales on download-able e-books. |
ok - maybe we can all take a look when he posts the code he has already ? |
risky business - would you like to send an email attachment to your database? would you also like to send a virus-email to your database? If you can read content, sending it to the database should be easy, unless there's something am not thinking about ? |
I have been blessed to work with companies with very busy sites. These companies monitor site traffic like crazy. Even a 5% drop triggers red flags all over the place and meetings would have been held within 3 days of such a drop. Before you know it, a decision, no matter how long it took to implement or how expensive is yanked, just to get the traffic back to normal. Why? because a drop in traffic is a drop in ad revenue (advertisers always demand to see the logs for themselves).
Seun can probably use similar traffic trend/logs to generate revenue. He can meet with the marketing directors in telecoms or bank industry-explain the works-and why they should advertise on his site. He would have to show what percentage of site visitors visit the bank/telecom post section, what they are looking for, how they came about the site, post topics, and how all these relates to users eventually going to the banks site, are these users looking for info? or just posting regular stuff, - the likes- should have a strong case to show the site will lead to back to their site blah blah blah |
@fashiong: I thought clothes importation have been banned ? |
what's the code you tried to use? |
abhosts:costs hundreds of dollars monthly you de buy oracle shares? |
mrperfect:Yes sir! |
na wa o ! SMF is open source, you want to charge for what exactly ? |
big mo:If you are new to php, are you also new to other programming languages? you should realize that your proposed data structure is shaky. try lynda.com for some php videos. |
lol, am a mac guy, Coda and Transmit baby. I don't need to use cpanel to install cms, or php framework.
Well the reality is that keeping a site like this online costs hundreds of dollars monthly; so how could you feel all is well when the only source of funding for the site appears to be embroiled with some issues?
you de buy oracle shares?
