there are so many ways to break into a web application. If you are not familiar with these hacks, your purpose of having a finger-print authorization is defeated. you'd need to worry about securing your database, hardware, protocols and the likes. if you wish to continue on your development however, research more on biometric applications |
Lets break it down. Say the school is on a quarter system (10 weeks = 1 Quarter) - 4 quarters in a year. For graduate school, you pay nothing less than $6500(including health insurance and what not) per quarter (10 weeks) (Please disregard what is written on your I-20). For undergraduate (depending on the number of classes per quarter, your tuition should be around $6000/quarter Rent: if you decide to share an apt, you'd pay >= $300/month (staying on campus will cost more, I dont advice it!) Water: $20/month Power: $40/month Cable/Internet: $40/month Car insurance: >= $50/month (depending on your age) Phone bill: >= $35/month Books: >= $100/Quarter if you decide to purchase from amazon or ebay As an international student, you can't work off campus until after 9 months of being a full time student. However, you can work on campus for a maximum of 20hrs/week. You get paid around $8/hr (minimum wage i think) So if you are not on scholarship, or your sponsor is not paying your tuition, or you are on half-scholarship, please do the maths above to know where you stand financially. If you get an F-1 visa and decide to skip school, or work off campus when you are not supposed to, the international office will report you to DHS, and you will become an illegal. All the best. |
guydudu:Once a decision is made and you get admitted, just have them send your the I-20 number so you can schedule an interview, and also have them FedEx the I-20 to you. |

What solution(s) have you provided to all your castigation? We all know the issues we have in Nigeria. Its time we start injecting some solutions into our chewing out, maybe someday, sometime, someone can read it and take a cue from it/them. What have I learned from your post? nothing I don't already know. pain! |
gongo aso:Cos I didnt try for a scholarship, its hard for me to tell how to go about it. am always of the opinion that scholarships are much easier for people already here, or maybe in the school, one thing that might help though is to try and get your results evaluated by WES, so they can convert it to 4.0 GPA and also compare your classes with ones here, and the school can really tell how intelligent you were in college. That way, you can get considered much faster instead of having them do the conversion of your transcript. If you plan to take that path, let me know, getting your results evaluated by WES (World Education Services) can be pretty messy |
gongo aso:these are all good schools. why not narrow the list down, or do you want to pay application fee to all these schools ? when you are done with GMAT and TOEFL, you can apply for scholarship, who knows! all the best bro |
Please ay or blackpro, can you explain the credit hours schools in the US use. A school I intend to apply to says I require 33 graduate credit hours, i don't understand. I will like to find out how long (in years) this course will take. Thanks
33 graduates credit hours means 33 units like we use in naija. usually, a class is 4 credit hours, which means 4 units in naija terms. so depending on how many credit hours a course is in your school, lets say 3 credit hours, which is 3 units, then if you divide 33 by 3, that gives you 11 courses in all. where each course is 3units or 3 credit hours. so in your school, you might not be allowed to take more than 4 classes per semester, which means 12 credit hours per semester in total, that means, 33/12 = 3 semesters = 1 year let me know if you need more clarification |
I think GRE or GMAT test score expires after 3 years |
seanpounds:if you need to register for GRE or TOEFL, visit: http://www.firstlogicng.com/contactus.html each exam is about 25k. about your GPA, i really dont know what it will be on a 4.0 scale. I just try to estimate it using my own GPA, but i think your 2.8 should be around 2.5/4.0 all the best |
neduogu:your 3.31 should be btw 2.98 and 3.1 on a 4.0 scale. usually, the international admission office converts your GPA to a 4.0 scale before sending your application to the departmental admission committee for consideration. i think its best to write the GRE, this will increase your chances of getting the admission, and a scholarship too. Assistantship doesn't come easy, the professor offering it to you must have known you well enough to give it. you must have taken maybe 2 of his classes and excel well in both. then he can feel comfortable about giving you an assistantship. you cant just land in the school and expect to get an assistantship straight away. like i wrote earlier, they even prefer to give that to their Phd students or students taken thesis under them, about GRE, when i went for interview at the consulate, the only documents that the consul checked and confirmed was my TOEFL and GRE, he was particular about the entrance exams I wrote to get the admission. not taking both might cast doubt, but this is just my opinion anyways. all da best |
captaino:since MIT has the best school of engineering in the world, i suppose you want to apply for an engineering program ? or maybe you can post the program you want to apply for, then we can get you the GRE score required. |
tonene:while some schools require you to have work experience, some schools dont make it a requirement. you can be admitted based on your GPA. there arent many agencies for US admission cos students must take TOEFL and GMAT/GRE exams before applying, and people are generally put off by this, while for UK admission, you dont really need to take any exams for admission. You can search for a good business school on google. Here is a link to the top business schools in the US: http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/grad/mba/search/ all the best |
Dont confuse the US system with Naija, of course, you wouldnt, in the US, almost everyone has a car, you cant say same for Naija. Have you ever sent a package to the other part of the nation and Fedex or DHL said they dont know the address? If you need to find a particular street, ask an Okada rider or just grab a taxi, better still, ask the roasted plantain seller along the road. |
i know my way around Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Abuja, Sokoto, people must be in dire need for this before they can embrace it, as it is, i dont think people will have much use for it. How do you expect the GPS to even calculate estimated time of arrival when there is no assigned speed limit or when traffic practically r on stand-still mostly? |
na wa o ! all these just to use someone else's Internet connection or ? |
Fly Diva:So I sent an email to the international admission office about the graduate certificate program. Me: Do you offer I-20 to international students intending to study Graduate Certificate program ? Reply: A person on an I20 must be "degree seeking", so for just a Graduate Certificate would not count. Thats the response I got from my school, you can email the school you intend to apply and get clarification. |
seanpounds:sayhello2ay@yahoo.com |
Fly Diva:I really dont know about taking a graduate certificate program, its very dicey, but you can apply for a master's degree, considering your low GPA, some schools might require you to take low level classes for a quarter or 2 before they admit you fully into the master's program. How about that ? Meanwhile, I dont think schools issue out I-20 for graduate certificate program. You should look into that. |
--- |
seanpounds:folks at the US consulate knows you cant work in Nigeria without the NYSC certificate. If they ask you during your interview and you cant produce it, it will cast a doubt that you intend to come back after you complete your degree in the US. |
Fly Diva:What graduate certificate program do you intend to do ? GRE is for science degrees while GMAT is for business schools. I dont think many schools will accept one in place of the other. So if you are sure you want to apply to a business school, take GMAT, and if its science, take GRE. If you wait to write the exams before you apply to the schools, it means you will have to pay for the shipment of your score sheet to the various schools. GMAT or GRE or TOEFL will send it to 4 school for free. But if you dont specify which schools when you fill the application for the exams, it means you will have to pay for the shipping yourself. You can apply Fall 2009, its ok, it will give you enough time to prepare and enough time to get useful information about schools. I will post my Personal statement or statement of purpose so it can serve as a guide to you and others, sorry, dont know about exam centres in abuja. |
@samir101ng hey bro, do you have a brute force java code? |

trillions:glad she was able to register. spend a lot of time with GRE learning the vocabs and maths say 6 weeks. you should do well for the TOEFL exams if you prepare at least 2 days ahead. all the best, |
