All, This is mind blowing and u need to hear it. A mechanic went to cheeck my car and diagnozed. He went under the car, checked the O2 sensor and saw that it was not well connected. He fixed that and they drove the car for a long while without stopping. I have told them to fill the tank and drive it all over the city to be sure. This sounds too simple to all the contributions here. By the time I get back home and I check it, I will give you guys a concrete feedback. Thanks all |
ok |
Gents, I met a guy that drives my kind of car and i told him about the issues I am having. He said he had something close to that and he had to change the fuse box, That is far away from what we have been discussing so far, He also said I could check if there is any leakage around the wire that covers the plug ( i dont know the technical name). I dont know if a complete change of engine will solve this issue, |
@George_D, thats the word, I now know exactly what things to look for when buying another car, |
You guys are simply great and I deeply appreciate your comments. My resolution is to take it very slowly, look for a competent mechanic and eliminate as advised on this thread. I will be sure not to start with the big things. I will rather start with the small things. In the interim, I will get a toyota car to move around and sort this out very carefully. Nissan altima is a beautiful car o drive and it has much power (mine is a 3.5L, V6 engine). I am enjoying the thread as I am learning so many things and I am thinking of becoming an auto mechanic or at the least start a business in that line ![]() |
@onwan, The lexus that you changed its MAF, did u diagnose it to discover it was MAF b4 changing or you just assumed? Is it possible that the problem is the fuel pump? A guy said he is hearing some whistling sound from my fuel tank and that is the fuel pump. Could that be the problem? |
OK Onwan, Pending the time that I will fix it or sell it, I will move on. I am just so tired of spending money on the car without result when the real issue could be very small. Thanks a lot Onwan, |
Gents, I am abandoning this car until I get a competent mechanic to look at it because it seems the sensors are not the only problems and some other things could have triggered the sensors. |
Thanks all! I want to change the sensors and see what next, I want to change the sensors because i dont want it to turn into a bigger issue. Any contrary opinion sirs? |
@Onwan, Are you saying a MAF sensor costs between 4-6k in Ladipo? I stay in Portharcourt and they sold that piece to me at 35k or thereabout, I changed the MAF sensor last month and the scannner didnt pick it up this time, could it still be the MAF? |
I have beeen trying to read up a lot of stuff online and trying to get a lasting solution. I believe that the reason why the car stalls is not the sensors but something else. I will change the sensors so as to have a perfect system but I still need to get to the problem. Some suggest cleaning the MAF, siena suggested some things too. I am still checking, From my findingss, Nissan cars seem to have MAF issues more often and that might be an area to look out for, Will let you guys know how thingss turn out but your advises are welcome |
@Blackboi, Is the airflow meter the same as the MAF sensor that I changed last month? |
These are the pictures of the sensors my mechanic changed two months ago: Camshaft and MAF sensors
|
@onwan, What model do you use? |
@siena, are u saying i should change the crankshaft position sensor? |
Thanks all, @siena, when the car stops in motion, the engine goes off but the battery indicator, engine oil indicator and other indicators show on the dash board and the AC continues to run. If I start it again, it starts and goes off. Sometimes, the RPM indicators is struglling to move up but it keeps coming down and eventually stalls again, After a while and some firing, it stays ok and moves on, When it finally picks, it may drive 5mins without any issues, Its so sick, i feel like dumping the car. From the thread, it seems the advise is not to change the sensors right away because the sensors are not the issues causing the car to stall in motion. From Siena's post, i should check: The ignition switch Earth connection under the steering column The brake lamp switch, its connections and the power feeding the switch |
Gentlemen, My mechanic pulled off some codes this morning: PO300- RANDOM MISFIRE DETECTED PO460- FUEL LEVEL SENSOR POO57- H02S HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT LOW (BANK2 SENSOR2) P1572- NOT DEFINED PO113- INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR HIGH INPUT It is worthy to note that I changed the MAF and CAMSHAFT sensors about a month ago. Please advise on way forward and I also need to have an idea of how much each of these sensors cost so that he doesnt give me overbloated bill. Also, please read the history and issues with the car in earlier posts on this same thread and advise if the issues I raised are caused by the failure of the sensors above or different issues altogether. Kindly advise a brother sirs. |
Thanks Kunle, I will try those out and see where I get to, |
Is it a similar issue that makes the car behave funny in the mornings or when I have packed it for a long time. By funny, I mean: When I start it in the morning, instead of the RPM going up and then coming down like every normal car, my car starts on a low RPM (almost 0) and then struggles to balance up. Sometimes, it even dies like once or twice b4 picking up. |
@ikey, Many thanks, I will have that checked 2moro. |
Thanks guys, Can the issue be discovered thru diagnosis? So that I can have it diagnosed and bring back the codes to you experts here. |
Guys, I drive a 2002 Nissan Altima. I posted some issues here sometimes ago about the car. About a month ago, the car suddenly stopped on the road. It was diagnosed and the mechanic said the camshaft, MAF and O2 sensors are bad. I changed the camshaft sensor and MAF sensor. The car has been fine since then. A few days back, I was driving and as I made to negotiate a turn, the power went off, I turned off the ignition and put it on again and it came on. Yesterday, the power went off a couple of times on motion and it came back afterr a hard try. The mechanic said to me on the phone that it may be becos we didnt change the O2 sensor. I used to think that O2 sensor cant make a car behave that way. Auto Doctors, please advise, |

Sultaan, You are simply a great man. I however do not know how my air filter looks, neither do I know the exact codes that were pulled off. The guy made mention of throttle body cleaner and the likes. I think the guy knows the problem. He may be charging me for his knowledge though. The car is currently being worked upon as we speak. I will ask him for the specific codes and get them across. |
Thanks all, Sultaan, even if the mechanic knows that there are little issues with the car, they have a way of magnifying the problems for their gain. Before now, when I run the car, the rpm indicator doesnt dilate smoothly, it shakes/jumps when going up and coming down. I dont know if thats a good way to explain it. I hope with the work to be done, there will be improvement on that |
I sincerely appreicate your contributions. The car suddenly stopped working on the road some days back and I believe it must have been due to current failure. The mechanic used his diagnostic machine to clear the code and it worked again. I drove the car home and the next morning, I drove the car out and it stopped after a while. The mechanic had to come and use his diagnostic machine to wipe it off and move it. Onwan, Its a 2002 Nissan Altima, not 94 model. I am based in Port Harcourt and good auto shops here charge premium. Sultan, thanks for giving me an idea of the MAF sensor price. I think the guy is within range. I will just go ahead with the guy since my options may be limited as I am based in Port harcourt |

Nairalanders, I drive a 2002 Nissan Altima and it was diagnosed to have issues with Massor Volume airflow sensor and camshaft position sensor. The guy working on it said the Massor volume airflow sensor costs 35,000 naira and the camshaft position sensor costs 25,000 naira asides workmanship. I think these figures are too high even though I dont mind spending money on my car, I dont want to be ripped off. Auto doctors in the house, please advise if these prices are good. |
Thanks Naijacutee. |
Nairalanders, Is it possible to get paints used to mark helipad runways in Nigeria? or we must import them? |
