Career / How To Transit From An ‘undesired Job’ To A Desired Career by sbm4real(m): 9:15pm On Oct 10, 2016
Culled from www.managementreview.com.ng

It is not uncommon to see individuals with a strong desire or passion for a career/business butstuck in a job or profession which they do not admire. Individuals in this situation often desire changebut because of the comfort, provision and other perks provided by their current careers or businesses, they find it very difficult to make the desired change which will give themhappiness in life in the long term. The size of income or influence in a current job may not provide a corresponding level of satisfaction to the job holder.

As a career coach, I have had many people ask me this question:

‘How do I make a transition without losing my current income or stepping down my lifestyle?’

I will attempt to answer this question in a broad manner so that it is applicable to other people asking similar questions.

It is important to mention upfront that proper planning and patienceis required for this transition.

1. What exactly do I desire? This is a fundamental question that an individual in this dilemma must ask himself/herself. It is a critical question that requires absolute honesty with oneself. Different things give us joy (not happiness) and it is important to understand the make-up of that in one’s life.

I know a lady that studied Computer Technology at undergraduate level but all she wants to do with her life is Catering and Events Management. Whenever she is making plans for her clients’ food and events, she is on top of her world and I always wonder – what is the attraction in Catering and Events Management? Isn’t it too stressful? Can’t she use that same time and energy to make more money doing something else? I came to a realization that she derives joy from that service whether or not she is paid to do it!

In a similar vein, individuals that desire to make a change from‘paying jobs’ to ‘desired jobs’ mustidentify their desired careers, businesses and endeavours. It is not strange to see people that desire a particular career simply because there are other people excelling in that career or because of the perks of the career. While this is not out of place, it is equally important to carefully identify your desires so as to avoid career fatigue in the future.

2. What do I require to get into the desired career, line of business, etc? A major obstacle for many is the qualifications or financial requirements to get into the desired career. While this is an obstacle, it can be surmounted.

For instance; a banker with 10 years experience but with a strong desire for Human Resources Management. There is probably no correlation between his/her course of study in the university and the desired career neither is there a correlation between his/her career and the desired career. It may not be easy to get an Human Resources Management job at the same level of 10 years experience and as such, there may be need for a temporary pay cut while making the transition.

In this instance, the individual needs to properly plan how to move from the current ‘undesired career’ to the ‘desired career’, and here are some practical planning steps:

Begin to save some money that can last you and your family during your transition period just in case you need to take a pay cut. This may sound scary and inconvenient but an individual that must make that transition must be ready to pay the sacrifices required. Interestingly, there may be no need for a pay cut or even any job loss. This is a precautionary step to ensure that you sustain your lifestyle during the career transition.Identify and pursue alternative sources of income so that you can become independent of your current income. Whether or not a career transition is under consideration, the national and global economy places a demand on individuals to have alternative streams of income. Additional streams of income may or may not necessarily be a big business but a source of income that can grow over time. The growth factor is an important factor when considering an alternative source of income.Acquire the education and skills required to transition into the ‘desired career’. Take a new degree; an advanced degree; a professional certification; relevant courses and training that will enhance your knowledge and competencies in the desired career. This also creates a networking opportunityparticularly when done intentionally. There may be qualifications, certifications or degrees that are required to enter into certain careers or businesses. This is quite challenging especially when current jobs and family schedules are very demanding. This is the point at which most people give up on the process.- so be mindful.Offer yourself for part-time and non-paying jobs in your desired career to gather experience and learn the ropes. This will make you more relevant when making the transition and the experience will surely count, reducing the need for drastic pay cut. This can be done during annual vacations or weekends.

We cannot shy away from the fact that this process is not an easy one and it requires determination, careful planning and patience. It requires altering our lives in the interim and taking up much more activities than necessary.

We cannot live all of our lives to make income for our family without actually living out our desires. It is totally acceptable to make sacrifices for our family and maintain a certain level of income but it is also critical that we fulfill our desires and live life to the fullest.

The Facts On Making The Transition:

#1. The actual transition is not as demanding as the process leading up to the transition. The actual transition will happen when the individual concerned feels the time is right and the necessary supporting elements are ready.

#2. For people transitioning from a paid employment to another, it is easier to manage. This is easier because you will go through an application process and get an offer letter before your current employment is terminated. As such, it is easy to determine whether or not the new job is suitable enough to make you quit the current job while for persons transitioning from a career to a business, it can be determined whether or not the new business is properly grounded or whether the supporting structures are matured enough to support the transition.

It is never an easy process to transition and it may take as much as several years to make it happen but it is worth the efforts. If you don’t try it, you won’t know whether or not you will succeed!

See Emphasis #1: Jesus was addressing the pharisees, not Christians! Pharisees were under the law of moses.

Nice line of thought..When Jesus said to His hearers....you have heard it said..an eye for an eye..but I tell you...

He was giving them the new pattern to follow..He was speaking to people under the law also but showing them a new way of life. So when Jesus spoke to the Pharisees, I believe He was showing them the new way of life...saying mercy, justice and righteousness are important (new way of life) but don't leave out tithing..my thoughts
Religion / Re: To Tithe Or Not To Tithe: The Whole Truth From The Bible. by sbm4real(m): 1:46pm On Mar 06, 2016
Christ made a reference to tithing in Mat 23:23. He said to the Pharisees that they should not ignore tithing but that mercy, justice and faithfulness are more important. I think that is a clear indication that Christ did not abolish it.

Abraham was the first to pay tithe and He paid it before the law was ever given. This suggests that tithing is a biblical principle that predates the law. It is just like saying the union between a man and woman predates the law.

Abraham gave to Melchizedek whom the bible refers to as a King without beginning and end and the bible also compares him to Christ is Hebrews. As such, tithe was first paid to God by Abraham.

While Pastors have abused tithing, it remains a valid principle. Giving tithe is not an investment that is supposed to bring you returns, we give to God because we love Him. Pastors say if you don't give it, God will curse the remaining 90%- this is a lie from the pit of hell. We give out of trust that the remaining 90% will be more than enough.

Lastly, the work of God requires a lot of money and giving tithes is an important part of that.

If you don't trust your pastor with your tithe, you shouldn't be such a church. Our monies are important to us and that is why Christ would equate serving God and money!

While I agree that Saraki should be probed, the same procedure should start for others that have done similar things. Otherwise, it will amount to using power to supress Saraki.

I am not saying Saraki did well by defying the orders of his party to become senate president; it will amount to abuse of power if others are not probed. Some must be made examples but tactics must be carefully chosen.

My humble submission.

Religion / Re: Quick Question For Those Who Don't Believe God Exists. by sbm4real(m): 1:22pm On Sep 02, 2012
dekung: @sbm4real,
Conscience and the concept of right or wrong has nothing to do with the existence of god, absolutely nothing. Rather they are functions of your cultural upbring as well as the environment in which you were raised. In some cultures if women go arround bare chested or have more than one husband it is a taboo however such things are normal everyday occurence in others. If you were a muslim and you mistakenly ate pork you would feel you have committed a sacriledge but if you were a christian you wont even think twice. In some cultures a married woman can elope with another man if she isnt happy with her current husband whereas it strictly forbiden in others. You conscience will only prick because of preconcievd ideas of what is right and what is not and whenever you cross the line you feel bad that you have done something wrong.

Thanks for your post but you have only answered one part of my question..there are other parts to it...in response to your submission on conscience and culture, why do babies pretend, lie and come up with different vices at such tender ages? Is that part of culture too? Aren't they too young to learn our preconceived ideas? I think there's a nature in man that knows between good and evil right from birth..

What about the perfection of the body system? DNA contains detailed coded information just like a computer program..that's d work of some man or evolution? The source of life in its self..the distance between the sun and the earth is perfect, if more or less, its catastrophic..is that science too?

Once again you need to forgive my ignorance but I don't see any reason yet why I should believe there's no God that set things in order...

If you or Macdaddy can answer all my questions and point to me that there is no God, I will appreciate

My regards..

Ignorance is a disease.

Please read;

http://astroversity..co.uk/2007/06/explained-big-bang-universe.html
Macdaddy, forgive my ignorance..I couldn't open the second link but the first link doesn't make much sense to me in terms of confirming whether God exists or not.
I tried to read up some stuff on big bang theory and this is an excerpt of what I got:

"According to the standard theory, our universe sprang into existence as "singularity" around 13.7 billion years ago. What is a "singularity" and where does it come from? Well, to be honest, we don't know for sure. Singularities are zones which defy our current understanding of physics. They are thought to exist at the core of "black holes." Black holes are areas of intense gravitational pressure. The pressure is thought to be so intense that finite matter is actually squished into infinite density (a mathematical concept which truly boggles the mind). These zones of infinite density are called "singularities." Our universe is thought to have begun as an infinitesimally small, infinitely hot, infinitely dense, something - a singularity. Where did it come from? We don't know. Why did it appear? We don't know." It appears the scientists don't know certain things too...or maybe I'm not checking the right information.

The knowledge of good or evil..I mean conscience that you have done right or wrong can be explained scientifically? If there's no God or supernatural being/force beyond humans, how do people get healed of diseases and physical sicknesses without medical intervention and what about near death experiences?has science been able to explain this too? Most religions believe in prophecy and seeing into the future and people have come forward with the knowledge of the future that came up as true...if there is no God or a spiritual realm beyond us, how can that possibly happen? I'm thinking hard...

Like I said, forgive my ignorance, I just may not have enough information as you do. So, pls answer the question on conscience and give me more information on these things.

Appreciate we have a constructive discussion on these points as against shying away through name callings..we may all be able to learn and challenge our foundational beliefs through them.

My regards.

Only a fool will say in his heart that there is no God.
The air we breathe just seems to have the right composition of gases or whatever makes it up...how did that come about?

Your arteries, veins and general body system just seems to be perfectly connected..how did that come about? Science? Or what explanation do you guys have for that?

The sun shines in the day and the moon by night..who set that in place? Science or humans?

Our very existence..the feelings of hatred, love, jealousy..etc, science put all that in man?

There is a God in heaven and He rules in the affairs of man...

So ur still wondering if Jesus is d arch angel
Jehovahs witnesses dnt 100 percent call Jesus d arch angel....but evidences from d scriptures is what brought about that conclusion...if there were never scriptures supportin that fact would we have bothered our head about it??
Its not becos we just wanna conclude....
Its becos no other person can feel d shoes of micheal d arch angel......
I mean who would u say d arch angel is
We delve into various bible points and come out with sound reasonings.....
Which other person ,appointed by Yahweh has d sole right to defeat satan and his angels if not Jesus?
For ur latest information not only Jehovahs witnesses now conclude that micheal is Jesus...other theologians and scholars now agree with that fact.....because d evidence is just there...
I recently had this same discussion with a close freind of mine who has been on us for a long time and he did his own internet research and drew d same conclusion.......
Is it d angel mention after d ARCH that's ur problem or what
Trinitarians never agree with d arch angel stuff becos they feel Jesus can never be an angel...has that become ur view now too??
But I'll tell u to go check d meaning of an angel and then u might as well re-conclude that Jesus was and is 1......
Because he was and is always sent....(Messanger).......even Jesus was an apostle.....

Let's just begin wit d arch angel issue.....
Is that ur email up there u wrote??

Can u pls give bible references that refer to Jesus as an angel?

Religion / Re: Romans-11 Vs 25 And 2-Thessalonians 2 Vs 3 by sbm4real(m): 11:05pm On Aug 26, 2012
@poster, Obalola has a good perspective to your question on Rom 11:25 and I will like to say more on it.

When Jesus came in d flesh, Israel rejected Him. Jesus himself said He was sent to the lost sheep of Israel..ref Mat 15:24. If you read John 1:10-13, it says of how His own people rejected Him but those who received Him, He gave the power to become sons of God. So we can safely conclude that Israel rejected Christ. Importantly, Mat 23: 38 talks of how Jesus turned His back on Israel and He will not return to them until they say..blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord.

After Israel rejected Christ, salvation was made available to the gentiles..you and I. Had Israel not rejected Christ, maybe we would not have been saved but God had it all planned out from the foundation of the world.

Let's look at Micah 5:3, it says...Israel will be abandoned until the time when she who is in labor gives birth and the rest of his brothers return to join the israelites.
This tells us that israel will be abandoned until a time...what time? The time of birth...some scholars believe its the time of rapture. If you marry this scripture with Rom 11:25, it should make some sense now.

If you read Hosea 5:11-15, Hosea 6:1-3, you will see clearly where Israel cried that they want to return to the Lord after 2 days (the 2 days is another subject of discussion).

Rom 11:25 can be better understood by reading the entire chapter in context and it simply means we should not be ignorant of the fact that Israel is the original nation or people of God but we have been grafted into that holy nation and royal priesthood through christ. Eph 2:11-13 clearly says we were once excluded from the citizenship in Israel, from the covenants of promise, without hope...but we have been brought near through Christ...so God will still save Israel. Rom 11:29 says God's gifts are without repentance..in the context of that chapter, it means God has chosen Israel and He is not going to forsake them...so they are still chosen.

The last part of Rom 11:25 says...when the full number of gentiles have come in..this suggests that Israel's salvation will come after the door has been shut to the gentiles...the only time this can happen is after the rapture..this is a controversial topic and I'm not about to get into it but its important to know that nations will wage a war against Israel and Israel will flee for 3.5 yrs and Christ will come to save them when they cry to God for help and believe in Jesus(there are several scriptural references for this..mat 24:15-22, rev 12:1-17 are just two of many)..like I said, its a controversial topic and the most important thing is to live ready for the return of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ

Interestingly, the fuss about Israel is a fulfillment of prophecy and a pointer to the end times, the negotiation of that peace deal is a major pointer to the end of times and the revelation of d man of sin, all that is happening now is the movement of puns on a chess board to fulfill God's plans, we need to get ready for the return of Christ
