General Benjamin Adekunle (rtd), popularly known as ‘Black Scorpion’ is dead. His wife, Folake, said he died Saturday morning in Lagos although the cause of his death was not revealed. Adekunle was born in Kaduna. His father was a native of Ogbomosho, while his mother was a member of the Bachama tribe. He underwent secondary education at the government college, Okene (in present day Kogi State). He enlisted in the Nigerian Army in 1958 shortly after completing his school certificate examinations. He passed the army selection examinations and thereafter was despatched to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK, the British Army’s initial officer entry academy. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on December 15, 1960. As a platoon commander, he served in Kasai Province of Congo with the 1st Battalion, Queen’s Own Nigeria Regiment during his first ONUC UN peace keeping tour of duty. In 1962, Lt. Adekunle became Aide-de-Camp to the governor of the eastern region, Sir Akanu Ibiam. The following year, as a Captain, he was posted back to the Congo as Staff Captain (A) to the Nigerian Brigade HQ at Luluabourg – under Brigadier B. Ogundipe. In 1964, Major Adekunle attended the Defence Services Staff College at Wellington, in India. When he returned he was briefly appointed Adjutant General at the Army Headquarters in May 1965 to replace Lt. Col. Yakubu Gowon, who was proceeding on a course outside the country. However, he later handed over the position to Lt. Col. James Pam and was posted back to his old Battalion (1st Bn) in Enugu as a Company Commander. Adekunle later assumed command of the Lagos Garrison as a substantive Lt. Col. When the Nigerian Civil War erupted in July 1967, Adekunle was tasked to lead elements which included two new battalions (7th and 8th) – to conduct the historic sea borne assault on Bonny in the Bight of Benin on 26 July 1968 (carried out by Major Isaac Adaka Boro’s unit). This happened after the federal government gained confidence of most south western ethnic groups as a direct result of Biafran push to mid-west state and probe into Western region. Adekunle was promoted to Colonel after the Bonny landing. The 6th (under Major Jalo) and 8th (under Major Ochefu) battalions of the Lagos Garrison subsequently took part in operations to liberate the Midwest following the Biafran invasion of August 1967. The 7th (under Major Abubakar) stayed behind to hold Bonny. Because Major Jalo’s Unit was seconded to Lt. Col. Murtala Mohammed’s 2nd Division, Adekunle was left with only the 8th Battalion at Escravos. http://www..com/talk/topic,219503.0.html

Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is on the trail of a group of computer hackers, who have stolen N6.28billion, about $40million, from a new generation Nigerian bank. At the head of the IT thieves is Godswill Oyegwa Uyoyou, who worked in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department of the unidentified bank. He is now on the run, according to a report in by EFCC. Uyoyou allegedly conspired with others and hacked into the bank’s computers, disbursing the funds to various accounts as they pleased. Uyoyou, who hails from Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, is said to have carried out the massive heist over a short period of time. Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesman, said: “They most likely got through to [Uyoyou] because he’s an IT person in the bank. One Saturday, he took the ‘cyber gang’ to the bank under the pretext that he was going to carry out some maintenance work, allowing them access to hardware, and they commenced to penetrate the bank’s database.” Uwujaren said they then increased the balances of some accounts. Sources told us that no culprits have been arrested yet and the spokesman said “The matter is still under investigation.” Banking industry sources however said that it is an Abuja branch of a new generation bank. Uwujaren also said the thieves have not withdrawn the entire sum stated. “It was in the process of withdrawing some of the money that they were caught,” he said, adding that some of the criminals are being tracked. For now, the chief suspect Uyoyou could not be found in all the addresses advertised by the EFCC declaring him wanted. At Balogun Akarutu Street, off Tijani Salako, Ile Epo, Ashamu Estate, Ejigbo, Lagos, where Uyoyou claimed to be living, there were two houses labelled as 7a and 7b. The probe at No. 7a revealed that there was nobody by such a name living in any of the flats on the premises. Similarly, a shop- owner at No. 7b who also resides in the main house alleged that there was nobody known by such a name in any of the flats. The heist by Uyoyou and Co. is just the latest in a string of major cyber-theft jobs. Figures released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) show that the nation’s banking sector has lost over N20 billion through internet fraud in 2013 alone. In September of the same year, undergraduates of a Nigerian federal university infamously defrauded Union Bank Plc to the tune of N2 billion. http://www..com/talk/topic,219509.0.html

Prince Harry was caught up in a dramatic high-speed crash yesterday when one of his police outriders smashed head-on into a taxi as the royal’s motorcade headed to an official engagement. report came in that according to a cyclist, who wishes to remain anonymous, he had seen Prince Harry's convoy of two blacked- out Range Rovers and four motorbike outriders pass him at ‘incredibly high speed’. He said: ‘I decided to speed up to see if I could catch up with them. I really wanted to know who it was. I didn’t see the actual crash but came across it just seconds after it had happened. There was debris everywhere, steam coming out of the car bonnet. It was carnage. ’ CCTV footage obtained exclusively showed the minicab driving down a side street, stopping at the junction and then pulling right across the main road – straight into the path of the police motorbike, which was on the wrong side of the road. Pictures taken in the aftermath of the accident in central London show the police motorbike embedded in the white Toyota Prius, as the driver lies slumped in his seat surrounded by deployed airbags. The fourth in line to the throne had looked on in shock as his bodyguards treated both the unconscious driver – who had to be cut free from the wreckage by firemen – and the police rider, catapulted 30ft down the road. The prince’s Range Rover was taking him to an Invictus Games event in north London when the accident occurred. The rider from the Special Escort Group was discharged from hospital, while the driver was said to be in a ‘stable’ condition.
