Politics / Re: Cabals And Godfathers Are Deliberately Keeping Nigerians Poor - Fela Durotoye by scholarsarena: 7:44am On Jun 17, 2018
this is an unfortunate truth.
Poor people are easily swayed by little sums and Nigerian politicians know that.
I weep for my beloved country.
Politics / Cabals And Godfathers Are Deliberately Keeping Nigerians Poor - Fela Durotoye by scholarsarena: 7:43am On Jun 17, 2018
Motivational speaker and 2019 presidential hopeful, Fela Durotoye has accused godfathers and cabals in politics of keeping Nigerians impoverished on purpose so that they can keep winning elections.

He said poverty is a deliberate strategy by the so-called cabals to influence the electoral system in the country by giving people the least bit of inducements to stay dependent on their generosity.

Durotoye spoke during an interview with Starr Radio UK yesterday when he was asked what he thinks is Nigeria's greatest problem. According to him, if Nigeria is able to break the power grip of godfathers in Nigerian politics, all of the country's problems will be solved as they keep an unhealthy hold on power to the detriment of everyone else.

He said, "If you ask me, the root cause of Nigeria's problem is the structure, the power brace, the godfathers, and the cabals that decide to hold power to themselves and because of the way they decide to hold power to themselves at the detriment of everybody else.

The idea is the way that elected officials are selected by those godfathers and the way that the system is designed to ensure that people are impoverished so that they can reduce the cost of elections.

I tell people that poverty is not something that is natural to Nigeria, it is the result of a deliberate strategy that is there to keep people poor and hungry so that they can bring out a little bit of N1000 or N500 or N300 to be able to influence elections."

Durotoye further called for an end to the delegate voting system in electing party candidates, a decision he said would strenghten internal democracy which should in turn eliminate corruption and promote people-oriented governance.

He said, "the day you make internal democracy work in all the parties where the people are the ones who vote for who becomes the candidate, then you'll break the back of the power of godfathers because they can't bribe everybody; but right now, you have only a delegate system and that delegate system makes sure that it is the people who own the delegates that you have to go and beg. So if I want to run in one of the conventional parties, I have to go and prostrate to the godfathers. When I go and prostrate to the godfathers, guess what happens once I become elected? It is them that I owe my allegiance, not the people and so you find out that that's where corruption comes in.

"Corruption can never leave Nigeria until true democracy comes into Nigeria. What we have today is not true democracy, it is selectocracy. It is the ability of a few people to select who will go and serve everybody else and that's not how it is done in the countries that we admire like the United Kingdom and the United States where we borrowed democracy from. "If we solve that problem and just get every party to be able to allow every member of the party to vote for who will become the candidates of the party, the rest of the problems will be solved."

Crime / Re: Nigerian Airforce Neutralise Several Boko Haram Fighters Eid-el-fitr Celebration by scholarsarena: 7:36am On Jun 17, 2018
When are we going to win this war against Terrorism in Nigeria?
Our soldiers are killing our brothers who have turned enemies of state through their acts.
What amicable option can be explored? I feel bad reading this kind of news.
Crime / Nigerian Airforce Neutralise Several Boko Haram Fighters Eid-el-fitr Celebration by scholarsarena: 7:34am On Jun 17, 2018
The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) neutralised many Boko Haram fighters through the successful air strikes during Eid-el-Fitr celebration on Friday in Parisu and Takwala in Borno state.

AVM Olatokunbo Adesanya, NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, confirmed in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, that the operation was conducted on Friday.

”The mission followed the discovery, by NAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms, of activities of BHTs in the 2 locations. Consequently, the ATF detailed 2 NAF Alpha Jet aircraft, armed with rockets and cannons, to interdict the locations. Overhead the objective, the NAF fighter aircraft acquired and attacked the objectives with rockets and cannons. At the end of the mission, it was observed that the attack platforms successfully engaged the remnants of the terrorists hibernating within the settlements and consequently neutralized them,” He said.

Adesanya said that the NAF would continue to deploy its platforms to conduct intensive ISR missions aimed at discovering the locations of possible remnants of BHTs in the entire Northeast.

Religion / Prophet Wale Olagunju: Buhari & APC Would Not Win The 2019 Presidential Election by scholarsarena: 7:27am On Jun 17, 2018
Prophet Wale Olagunju, the presiding Bishop, Divine Seed of God Chapel Ministries has spoken on the state of the nation saying 'It is not in the mind set of God for Buhari to rule beyond May 2019'.

In a recent interview with City People, the man of God said, 'let me give you my own Biblical view, whenever there is injustice there will be no peace. Forget about those Bishops who are saying it shall be well with Nigeria. I am a die-hard supporter of Buhari in those days. One, to me his war against corruption is too selective. Buhari should know that corruption is a sin against God and mankind, so war against it should be total'.

According to him, 'I expect him to restructure Nigeria to balance the equation, He should conduct transparent censors to address the injustice that is going on in this country, create job opportunity for the youths who are roaming the street and address the problem of tribalism in the nation, correct the lopsided appointment that is going on in the Armed Forces; Custom; Immigration; Nigerian Police; Federal Ministries! Parastatals. It is not in the mind set of God for Buhari to rule beyond May 29,2019. Look at the just concluded bye-election in Oyo State, yes, PDP floored APC hands down. This is just the beginning of what awaits Buhari and his APC come 2019; as earlier predicted by me in my prophesy of 2017 and 2018'.

He added that, 'let me be frank and declare before God of Heaven and the whole heart, even if Buhari should red-carpet the whole nation, Buhari and his APC would not win the 2019 presidential election. In my 2017 prophesy, the Lord told me He would raise adversaries against him and even his own kinsmen, the Hausas would disown him. What are we witnessing now?

The Lord gave me the signs through my prophesy; there is no way he can win. Some Nigerians in their own thinking has said that Buhari is a man of Integrity .. Where lies the integrity in the life of Buhari when he chose his own people the Fulanis to manage the security affairs of this nation, shedding innocent blood on daily basis, marginalizing the Christians and the Ibos has no say in the affairs of Nigerian nation. Why?

To me the thinking of those who are supporting Buhari today is upside down. Under Buhari, the government doesn’t value integrity and value system is no more'.

Politics / Complete Biography Of Major-general JTU Aguiyi-ironsi. by scholarsarena: 6:09am On Jun 17, 2018
This is the Biography of Major-General Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi, first military Head of State of Nigeria. Aguiyi-Ironsi was born on March 3, 1924 and he died on July 29, 1966.
He was a senior Nigerian military officer and he seized power in the ensuing chaos following the January 15 1966 military coup, serving as the Head of State of Nigeria from January 16, 1966 until his murder on July 29, 1966 by a group of mutinous Northern army soldiers who revolted against his government in what was popularly called the July Counter Coup.

His Early Days

Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi was born on March 3, 1924 to Ezeugo Aguiyi in Umuahia-Ibeku, in present-day Abia State, Nigeria. At age eight, he moved in with his elder sister Anyamma, who was married to Theophilius Johnson, a Sierra Leonean diplomat in Umuahia. Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi then took the last name of his brother-in-law as his first name, and he saw his brother-in-law as a father figure.

At 18 years, Aguiyi-Ironsi joined the Nigerian Army as opposed to the wishes of his elder sister Anyamma.

Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi had his primary and secondary school education in Umuahia and in Kano.

Military Career

Aguiyi-Ironsi joined the Nigerian Army in 1942, at the rank of a private with the seventh battalion. In 1946, he was promoted to the rank of company sergeant major. Still in 1946, Ironsi was sent on a training course in Staff College, Camberley, England. After successful completion of his course at Camberley, England, Ironsi was promoted second lieutenant of Royal West African Frontier Force in 1949.

Ironsi rose to the rank of Captain in 1953 and his rapid rise in the Army continued when two years later, in 1955, he was promoted to Major. Ironsi served in company of other military men as Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and Nigeria’s equerry at the time she visited Nigeria in 1956.

In 1960, Aguiyi-Ironsi was made commandant of the fifth battalion in Kano, Nigeria, with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Later in 1960, he was head of the Nigerian contingent force of the United Nation peace keeping force in the Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo). From 1961-1962, Aguiyi-Ironsi served as the military attaché to the Nigeria High Commission in London United Kingdom. It was during this period that he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General. During Ironsi’s tenure as military attaché he attended some courses at the Imperial Defence college (renamed Royal College of Defence Studies in 1970), Seaford House, Belgrave Square.

Ironsi was appointed as the commandant of the entire United Nations peace keeping forces in Zaire (Congo DRC) in 1964.

In 1965, Aguiyi-Ironsi was promoted to the rank of Major-General. That same year Major-General CB Welby-Everard handed over his position as the General Officer Commanding, GOC of the entire Nigerian Army to Major-General Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi thus, making him the first Nigerian indigenous to head the entire Nigerian Army.

JTU Aguiyi-ironsi as Head of State and Death

In January 1966, a group of army officers, led by Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu, overthrew the central and regional governments of Nigeria, killed the prime minister, and tried to take control of the government in a failed coup d’état. Nzeogwu was countered, captured and imprisoned by major general Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi.

Aguiyi-Ironsi was named military head of state of Nigeria on January 17, 1966, a position he held until July 29, 1966, when a group of northern army officers revolted against the government, and killed Aguiyi-Ironsi. Ironsi only lasted 194 days in office before his life was cut short. His remains was later found in a forest in Ibadan and given a proper burial befitting of a General.

'while I was in Hollywood I always had this pride of Hunter College. I would tell everybody that I learned and took so much away from my experience at Hunter College: I was young, I was a bouncer, when I wasn’t bouncing I was in these classrooms with the most diverse student body on the planet. We’re strivers. We can overcome anything. You learn that here and you take into the world. And then you can look at Hollywood and change the face of Hollywood.
