The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, have reconciled, following a peace meeting held on Friday night in Abuja.

This was following a reconciliatory meeting initiated by Alhaji Aliko Dangote and the Chairman of Nigeria’s Governors’ Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi.


The intervention came, 24 hours to the expiration of a query issued to the emir by the state government, seeking answer on alleged misappropriation of the emirate’s finances amounting to N3.4bn.

Crisis started between them due to the emir’s alleged support for the opposition PDP candidate, Abba Yusuf, in the last general election.

In order to cut down the emir’s influence, the governor went ahead to creat four rival emirates and appointed emirs in each.

Things got more tense after Gov. Ganduje initiated moves to suspend the Emir, based on the recommendation of a panel set up to investigate the emirate’s finances.

Brazil football star, Neymar arrived at a police station in Rio last night for questioning over claims he raped a woman in a Paris hotel.


Instagram model Najila Trindade Mendes de Souza, 26, accused the Paris Saint Germain forward last month of raping her at a hotel in Paris.

In a recent interview, she said 'He was aggressive, totally different than the boy that I got to know on the messages.

'Since I really wanted to be with him I said, OK, I'm going to try to handle this,' she said.

After some kissing and caressing 'he started to hit me ... then he began to hurt me a lot, and I asked him to stop because it hurt.'

According to Trindade, Neymar apologized, but then continued hurting her while they had sex.



Neymar admitted meeting with Trindade but vociferously denies rape, saying the entire encounter was consensual.



The 27-year-old arrived at the station in a wheelchair having recently suffered an ankle injury while playing for Brazil against Qatar in a friendly match.


The football star, whose full name is Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, was escorted by three men as he hobbled into the building in Rio de Janeiro with a crowd of fans and onlookers including the Press pictured outside the Police station.



It has also been revealed that his accuser, Trindade was handed a £5,000 fine by a Brazilian court just one day before she made the allegation.

According to Brazilian news website GP1, De Souza, she served with an eviction order by the court ordered to pay a debt of 26,712 Brazilian Reais (£5,000) on May 14 - just one day before she came forward with the rape allegations. The fine was imposed because of unpaid rent and was said to have been comprised of three months of rent and legal fees.

Other media outlets in Brazil also claimed she is currently engaged in a court case with the Pan American School of Arts who sued her over a debt of 4,160 Reais (£800).

Police in Neymar's home country of Brazil have launched a rape investigation after Trindade filed charges there earlier this month.

Two Canadian women have been kidnapped in Ghana by unidentified gunmen in the country's second largest city, Kumasi.

 

The two students, aged 19 and 20, were working as volunteers for a charity. They were kidnapped on Tuesday evening outside their apartment in the Ahodwo district and bundled into a car, police said.  

 

Police say the two women were volunteers with Youth Challenge International, a Toronto-based international development organisation.

 "Security agencies are working closely together to get them rescued, and the perpetrators arrested," said David Eklu, Assistant Commissioner of Police.

 

Global Affairs Canada confirmed the abductions and said Canadian officials were working with authorities in Ghana and were in touch with the families of the two women

A Doctor in the US state of Ohio was charged Wednesday with the murders of 25 critically-ill hospital patients for allegedly administering lethal doses of the powerful synthetic opioid fentanyl to hasten their deaths.

A grand jury indicted William Husel on 25 counts of murder for the deaths of patients under his care while he was employed by the Mount Carmel Health System hospital network in the Midwestern state’s capital Columbus.

“I’ve been a prosecutor for 22 years and I have not seen a 25-count murder indictment,” Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien told a news conference.

The indictment was the latest salvo in a case that exposed the failure of multiple healthcare safeguards, raising questions about the roles of the dozens of nurses and pharmacists who worked with Husel.

Husel’s alleged actions spanned four years and may have involved as many as 35 patients who were near death or critically ill, with most not expected to survive, authorities said.

Cold-case homicide detectives at the Columbus Police Department focused their criminal investigation on 25 patients prescribed fentanyl dosages of 500 micrograms or higher, according to the prosecutor.

“Dosage at that level could not support any legitimate medical purpose,” O’Brien said.

The allegations against Husel came to light after hospital lawyers called police to report the possible crimes. He was suspended from patient care in November 2018 and fired soon after, the hospital said.

Ed Lamb, the chief of Mount Carmel Health System, said in a statement that since Husel’s alleged actions were uncovered, the organization has implemented “meaningful changes throughout our system to ensure events like these never happen again.”

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families of patients affected by this tragedy.”


Officials were not looking to charge anyone else in connection with the deaths, but nurses and pharmacists were facing review of their actions by various governing boards.

The hospital system in March reported 48 of its employees to relevant nursing and pharmacy boards.

Husel turned himself into authorities and was expected to face a judge later in the day.

Each of the criminal counts with which he is charged carries a sentence of 15 years to life in prison.

Husel’s attorney did not immediately return a request for comment.

PDP has asked President Buhari to tender an apology to Nigerians over the comment he made to Abuja residents who paid him a courtsey visit in the state house Abuja, yesterday June 4th.



President Buhari while receiving residents of the FCT, said he will continue to ensure their safety as they have become necessary evil. The President said although the FCT residents failed to vote for him during the February 23rd election, he is obligated to ensure their safety since he also resides in the FCT.

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reproaches President Muhammadu Buhari for branding residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja as “necessary evil” because they did not vote for him in the February 23 Presidential election.

The party notes that such resort to branding of Nigerians for rightly exercising their rights is completely unpresidential and must be condemned by all.

The PDP laments that the statement of Mr. President was inciting, divisive and capable of demonizing innocent compatriots and setting them up for victimization by overzealous agencies.

Moreover, President Buhari should note that he was not only rejected by FCT residents but also by an overwhelming majority of Nigerians across the states of the federation, who voted massively for the PDP, only for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to subvert the will of the people in his favour; consequent upon which our party and presidential candidate have headed for the retrieval of this stolen mandate at the tribunal.

Furthermore, the PDP criticized President Buhari for stating that “to make FCT secure is to make myself secure and the Vice President”.

The party holds that it is the duty of the President to provide security for all parts of the country, irrespective of where he and the Vice President reside or how Nigerians cast their votes.

The PDP maintains that the security of lives of all Nigerians, ought to have been paramount to the President and not determined by inessential factors, if indeed he has the interest of the people at heart.

The PDP therefore calls on President Buhari to apologize to Nigerians for this divisive comment.

The party also urges Nigerians to continue in their determination to retrieve the stolen Presidential mandate at the tribunal, so as to have an administration that truly cares for the citizens, in line with the provisions of our laws.

A 57-year-old Ugandan man, Basil Enatu who has worked on dead bodies as a mortuary attendant for the past 32 years is one of those few men who don’t see anything wrong with working at the mortuary, and would choose it over any other job.



The father of 10 boys and two girls has been reportedly working at the Soroti Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda for not less than 32 years, and has narrated the challenges of his work and his motivation for doing it for over three decades.


He told Uganda's Daily Monitor: “at the time when I used to drink a local brew, people would not want to share a drinking straw or calabash with me. I also noticed a scenario where a vendor had to wash the tube I used for taking the brew using hot water. People do not even want to share a pot or shake hands with me” Enatu is quoted as saying.


Despite the challenges he stated, he still loves being a mortuary attendant, for which reason he has done it for years without getting fed up.



In his words, “I love working on bodies because they do not complain, do not fight, are humble, and are not trouble causers. After all, rich or poor, all are buried the same way by being lowered into the grave".

Attention has been drawn to the pathetic state of the Obizi Community secondary school in Ezinihite LGA, Imo state, Nigeria.



Students of the school are subjected to classes taught in dilapidated buildings or under trees. The buildings are in such a state of disrepair that when it rains, water gets into the classrooms.



To compound issues, the classrooms lack adequate furniture and some students are forced to stand while being taught.



The surroundings of the school are no better. Overgrown grasses can be seen creeping up the walls of the school building.



A staff of the institution who got in contact with LIB appealed for intervention from good-willed Nigerians. He revealed to LIB that there are no functioning libraries or classrooms. As a result, he said students are exposed to a number of risks including rape and abduction of students.



Appealing for help to rebuild the school up to standard, the staff told LIB: "We are appealing to good Nigerians to come and assist us rebuild this school and bring back standard education to the poor community."
