How Awolowo's Action Destroyed The Fibre Of Peace Between The Igbos And The Yorubas. In 1963, Obafemi Awolowo was jailed by Balewa due to treason at Uyo,Eastern Region. He also lost his son to car crash. During his imprisonment, M.I Okpara hired a house & urged the Igbo owner of a House near the prison to vacate from the house for Awolowo to live in that house. The man vacated and Awolowo lived in that house. So, every night he would sleep in that house but at daybreak he would go to prison and stay and all the cooks and stewards he had were paid from Enugu by the Eastern Government. His wife HID Awolowo who was mourning two losses, her incarcerated husband and dead Son, was placed on a ministerial salary from Enugu and all allowances that accrued to ministers in those days were paid to her. In 1966, he was released by Ojukwu and moved to Ikenne. In an interview, Ojukwu reiterated. "I released Awolowo from jail. Even that, some people are beginning to contest as well. Awolowo was in jail in Calabar. Gowon knows and the whole of the federal establishment knows that at no point was Gowon in charge of the East. The East took orders from me. Now, how could Gowon have released Awolowo who was in Calabar? Because of the fact that I released him, it created quite a lot of rapport between Awolowo and myself and I know that before he went back to Ikenne. I set up a hotline between Ikenne and my bedroom in Enugu. He tried like an elder statesman to find a solution. Awolowo is a funny one. Don’t forget that the political purpose of the coup, the Ifeajuna coup that began all this, was to hand power over to Awolowo. We young men respected him a great deal. I thought he was a hero and certainly I received him when I was governor. We talked and he was very vehement when he saw our complaints and he said that if the Igbos were forced out by Nigeria that he would take the Yorubas out also. Later Gowon wooed Awolowo through his Wife to join the government, in his words in an interview. "Yes, we really pleaded with mama; she was the one who encouraged papa to accept that invitation and so, for that, we ever remain grateful to her for what she did." |
Dainy1:You can also go ahead to give him/her family history and geology that day. Check the love first, because real love won't back out. |

You can not be smarter than your shadow...no matter how many times you duplicate your moniker.....your tendencies will surely fish you out. |
Coldie:This is quite offensive to citizens of those states, especially when they come across this article. Is it not important to delete such comments for the security of Igbo people living in these states? |
ABIOLA KAYODE ALEX OGUNSHAKIN FELIX OKPOH OLORUNYOMI NNAMDI BENSON RICHARD UZUH United States Government Releases Names Of Six Nigerians Arrested For $6 Million Internet Fraud US Government has released names of Nigerian Fraud Ring arrested for running a BEC scam to the tune of $6 million. United States Government Releases Names Of Six Nigerians Arrested For $6 Million Internet Fraud The United States Government has arrested and sanctioned six Nigerian nationals involved in a fraud scheme that stole more than $6 million from residents in the country. The Department of the Treasury published the names of the suspects in a press release on it’s website on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. The statement reads: “Today, in a coordinated action with the U.S. Department of Justice, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) took action against six Nigerian nationals for conducting an elaborate scheme to steal over six million dollars from victims across the United States.” “The individuals designated today targeted U.S. businesses and individuals through deceptive global threats known as business email compromise (BEC) and romance fraud. “American citizens lost over $6,000,000 due to these individuals’ BEC fraud schemes, in which they impersonated business executives and requested and received wire transfers from legitimate business accounts. “Money was also stolen from innocent Americans by romance fraud, in which the designees masqueraded as affectionate partners to gain trust from victims.” “The six individuals designated today manipulated their victims in order to gain access to usernames, passwords, and bank accounts in furtherance of the scheme. “Several of those who engaged in romance fraud used online tools, including social media and email, to further their social engineering tactics.” “OFAC closely coordinated with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which today released details regarding its indictment against members of the conspiracy. “The FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) receives romance fraud victim reports from all ages, education, and income brackets. However, the elderly, women and those who have lost a spouse are often targeted.” Below is the list of Nigerians captured by the FBI: 1) Richard Uzur – Business Email Compromise (BEC) Scam: Izuh was arrested for having engaged in cyber-enabled activities that have the purpose or effect of causing a significant misappropriation of funds or economic resources for private financial gain. Uzuh would often target over 100 businesses in a single day. Olorunyomi and his co-conspirators created fictitious profiles on dating websites and posed as individuals looking for love. He developed online relationships with victims to either obtain funds directly from victims, or used their bank accounts to funnel fraudulently obtained money. Losses exceeding $1,000,000 can be attributed to the romance fraud scheme led by Olorunyomi and his accomplice. 3) Alex Ogunshakin – BEC And Romance Scams Ogunshakin was arrested for having provided financial, material, or technological support for Uzuh. Ogunshakin conducted BEC and romance scams. Ogunshakin provided Uzuh and other co-conspirators with bank accounts that were used to receive fraudulent wire transfers. Additionally, Ogunshakin assisted Uzuh with contacting victim companies and he conducted his own BEC schemes. 4) Felix Okpoh – Romance Scams And Money Laundering Okpoh was arrested for having provided financial, material, or technological support to Uzuh. Okpoh conducted romance scams and engaged in money laundering, working closely with Uzuh and others involved in the scheme. Benson conducted romance scams and money laundering, working closely with Uzuh. Benson communicated with multiple romance fraud victims to obtain their bank account details, and provided the account information to Uzuh to receive fraudulent wire transfers from U.S. businesses. 6) Abiola Kayode – BEC and Romance Scams Kayode was arrested for having provided financial, material, or technological support to Uzuh. Kayode conducted BEC and romance scams, working closely with Uzuh and others involved in the scheme. Kayode provided U.S. bank accounts to individuals involved in the scheme, one of which was then used to receive a $69,150 fraudulent wire transfer. The statement added that the treasury is committed to responding to evolving online threats that target organizations and individuals in the United States. |
