Car Talk / 2016 Range Rover Evoque Convertible Review by seanpizzy(m): 8:41pm On Apr 30, 2016
Land Rover is building a Range Rover Evoque Convertible. While this is entirely not new information, it is interesting now more than ever considering the advancements and modifications that the manufacturer has poured into the parent model.

Land Rover actually made this known in 2012 after bringing Evoque cabriolet concept the same year to the Geneva Motor Show. Word later came out that production indeed was on course, then silence followed. A concept again at this point but it is one that looks to join a ‘proud lineage’ that now only has one roofless SUV, the Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet. Motorists now turn the sights on the town of Halewood near Liverpool to see if land Rover will keep their word this time round and grant the world its first premier SUV cabriolet.

There is not much to compare this concept with in terms of interior modifications but speculation is rife that the convertible will retain many of the interior qualities of the 2016 Range Rover Evoque. This only makes sense considering that it is the world’s first compact SUV convertible. Because this model forsakes the roof, you should expect to lose some boot space and substantial headroom. The structure will also weaken or compromise the stability of the body to accommodate the fabric hood.

Nairaland / General / Ever Thought About Different Way We Unintentionally Complicate Our Lives? by seanpizzy(m): 2:37pm On Apr 19, 2016
1. We procrastinate.
Projects pile up, certain tasks are constantly at the top of our to-do list, emails and text messages go unanswered, and people want our attention. Nothing can clutter our minds more than things that go undone. When we don’t do the things we should at the times we know we should do them, we get overwhelmed. Being overwhelmed often leads to projects never being completed because we feel like we will never catch up. Procrastination is complication. Our life will love us forever if we start doing things now.

2. We worry.
Worry is the mother of a complicated life. The more we worry, the more problems don’t get resolved. Many times, we aren’t even facing real problems, just issues we’ve concocted in our minds. Yet we still worry. Worrying robs us of our joy, steals our peace of mind, and ruins our lives. A problem is no greater than the power you give it. The energy we spend on our problems can be energy well-spent on finding solutions.

3. We wait.
The perfect time never seems to be now, so we wait for it. The dream seems unattainable now, so we wait for a better time. The work seems too hard now, so we wait for it to get lighter. We wait and wait and wait. We end up waiting all our lives for things we have the time, talent, money, and power to reach for right now. Waiting is fine when you are not in control, but waiting for opportunities when it is in your power to create them is not beneficial.

4. We do more than we should.
We say yes to everyone and everything. The idea of commitment means everything; overcommitment puts a smile on everyone else’s face but yours. It’s enticing to fill every minute of every day with meeting people, working on projects, and going places. But you have to ask yourself, is it necessary? Give yourself space — lots and lots of space. Think. Plan. Do what you should and leave the rest alone.

5. We accept too many interruptions.
When we are always busy, we have very little time for interruptions. When we get unfairly interrupted, we respond negatively. Interruptions should be kept to a minimum — if it isn’t an emergency, don’t give your time to it. You will always be crazy busy if you allow people to stick their heads in your door every ten minutes with meaningless objectives and projects they can handle themselves. Shift your focus from dealing with interruptions and being distracted to things that really need your attention.

6. We seek approval and affirmation from others.
This is often done unconsciously. But let’s be honest, most of what we do, we want people to like. The more people don’t like it, the busier we are refining and revamping it. This causes stress. One of the hardest things you will ever do is try to please people. It’s hard because you’ll never succeed. It’s a game — a futile, empty one at that. The goal is to like what you do, love what you do, think your own thoughts, create the life you want to live, and never mind if anyone approves or affirms you in it. Don’t be afraid to love the path you’re walking on and the life you’re living — every step, every minute.

7. We’re not really productive.
Busyness and productivity are on opposite ends of the spectrum — if you’re busy, more than likely you’re not as productive as you could be. If you’re productive, odds are you’re not so head-under-the-desk busy that you can’t see anything else. Busyness will exhaust you and complicate your life. Take a breather. Allow yourself to step back, analyze what you’re doing, and select the things that are most important and that will yield the most results.

8. We aim for control.
When we try to control more than we should, we don’t enjoy the journey or the destination. Control is not the goal in life, connection is. Connection with others and with yourself. You will quickly get tired, frustrated, and bored with life if you are intent on controlling everything in your life. Learn to let things go. Give your heart and mind a break from making all the decisions, being involved in every detail, and trying to steer in all directions at once. It’s not worth it. Take a break. Let go of some of your high expectations.

9. We hold on to birds that need to fly.
You can’t untangle your life if you’re unwilling to let go of some things and some people. What you had five years ago may not be what you need now. The people who walked your journey with you one year ago may not be the same people who need to walk with you today. Drop a load off of your life by not holding on too tightly. If you do, you’ll be disappointed and always wondering why? how? when? what? Accept differences. Embrace change. Give yourself permission to let go so you can have room to grab the next opportunity that comes your way.

10. We participate in drama.
Drama is one of the bedrocks to a complicated and unpleasant life. Indulging in the drama of other people and giving your own drama free rein will cause you to be more stressed out and depressed than you ever thought possible. There are people who feed off drama and don’t think they’ve had a good day until they’ve been involved in some trite situation that makes someone else look bad. Quit judging, start loving. Choose to see the good in others and help them bring it out.

11. We take one step forward and two steps back.
In other words, we hesitate. We wonder if we should, we start, and then we stop. We see possibilities, we move forward, we encounter a roadblock, and then we quit. Wouldn’t you rather take a risk and see that it didn’t work out than not take the risk at all? Life is full of opportunities and possibilities if we simply open our minds, eyes, and hearts to them. Persevere and believe that whatever you want, you will get. Keep your head up and don’t succumb to the voice of failure.

12. We complain.
We stress ourselves out when we find things to grumble about and nothing to be grateful for. Complaining almost always changes nothing. When we focus on the next thing — the next pay raise, the next promotion, the next degree, the bigger house, the better car, another spouse, another friend — we neglect all the things that are before us and the people that are around us. Stopping to breathe is part of the wonderful process of simplifying your life. We should be happy and thankful for who we are and for what we have right now. Always thinking of times in the past and in the future robs us of the joy of living in the present. Don’t waste your mental energy with ungrateful thoughts.

Nairaland / General / Beware! These 3 Stds Can Make You Infertile For Life by seanpizzy(m): 9:16pm On Apr 01, 2016
These seemingly 3 STDs could jeopardize your future and make you impotent if you keep having s*x with random people without protection.

Sexually transmitted diseases are a nightmare to everyone. These embarrassing ailments can only not mess up your sex life, ruin your relationship and leave permanent reminders but worse, they can reduce your chances of having children of your own later in life.

Another reason to say no to unprotected sex!

According to Annie Mwirikia, here are three STDs that are dangerous culprits that can make you infertile.

1. Gonorrhea
The most common STD in Africa, Gonorrhea can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease if left untreated and cause tubal blockage which can lead to infertility.

2. Trichomoniasis
A ruthless STD which in addition to giving you the foulest, fishy smelling vaginal discharge in the world could also affect your ability to have kids if left untreated. Double gross!

3. Chlamydia
Untreated Chlamydia infection causes inflammation or blockage of your tubes making it the commonest cause of STD-related infertility in the world. If you suspect you might have an STD, be sure to see your doctor at once because it just might be this dangerous microbe lurking in your genitals and the worst part is you might have a Chlamydia infection and not have any symptoms for years.

Be careful if you don’t have to explain to Mr. Right why you are unable to bear him children. You know the rules.

Abstinence – Abstain from sex if you can. If you can’t abstain be faithful to one partner and be sure to use protection every time you engage in a sexual intercourse! And finally if you suspect you may have gotten infected, get treated immediately and ensure your partner gets treated too!

Nairaland / General / MC Oluomo Cries Out -they Took Pics Of Prostitutes…i Didn’t Stage ‘braless’ Part by seanpizzy(m): 7:30am On Mar 28, 2016
Last week, social media was agog with pics from the birthday party of popular Treasurer of Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, a.k.a. MC Oluomo.According, the birthday party was tagged ”Braless” night and required ladies to show up braless.

He has reacted angrily to claims he staged the braless party and blames it on his enemies. He also said the girls who showed up braless were prostitutes..ouch!

He told Encomium …

“We all know how big Da Place is, and a lot of people come there, including prostitutes. They only took the pictures of some prostitutes and club girls who were not part of the event, who didn’t even get close to the venue where they organized the party for me, and they posted the pictures to depict my guests.

If you check the pictures very well, you will agree with me that they’re club girls, not my guests.

To cry it loud, I am a devout muslim which I believe everybody knows. I pray five times daily, and I have been to Mecca, Saudi Arabia for both lesser Hajj and full Hajj many times. Not only that, I have also sent a lot of people to Mecca on pilgrimage, and of course which I do every year. How, for God’s sake, can I be involved in such immorality? How can I organize that kind of a party? What do I stand to gain from such a thing?

“For instance, you as a man, if I invite your wife to such a party, will you allow her to come?
“At this juncture, I believe you also should understand that the whole thing was fabricated by enemies of progress whose aim was to bring me down. But my belief is that the house God has built, no one can demolish it.

“I know I have enemies and there are opposition here and there who may want to do everything to malign me. That can’t happen because Allah is solidly behind me.

Politics / Top Level Men Who Made Buhari President by seanpizzy(m): 7:10pm On Mar 23, 2016
Editor’s note: It has been almost a year Nigerians voted Muhammadu Buhari as the 4th democratically elected president. Though the road to the presidency wasn’t easy, there were a handful of men who made Buhari President.

This piece the writer takes a look at the roles and efforts they put in, making the 4th attempt of Buhari at the presidential election possible.

On March 28, 2015; exactly one year ago, 15 million Nigerians voted to elect Muhammadu Buhari president. Behind the scenes however, the process to make sure every single one of those votes counted was fraught with danger and state created booby traps.

Some of those pitfalls included the reluctance of the Goodluck Jonathan administration to sanction the registration of APC as a political party, the unwillingness of the then ruling PDP to accept the use of card readers during the elections and the legal fight to have Buhari disqualified over his lack of a school certificate. But Buhari’s road to the presidency has been a long march spanning over a decade and has seen some of his staunchest supporters fall to the wayside while many new ones joined the bandwagon.

A handful of people were however responsible to creating the conditions that made the 2015 election different from the previous three that Buhari had contested in. Naturally, there are those that helped shape the election but will never be known to public, yet they are better known to the president. There are also those that the president himself will never know the efforts they put in, in making his election possible. While the roles of some of these men were not visible to the public, an attempt can be made to pick out the few whose impacts on the election are apparent. Here is a list (in descending order) of the top men who made Buhari President and also shaped the 2015 election:

Business / The 10 Proven Reasons Why Small Businesses Fail by seanpizzy(m): 9:24pm On Feb 01, 2016
The question is why do some businesses succeed when others fail ? While it may seem to be a matter of luck, in reality there are common mistakes that kill many small businesses before they ever get off the ground. Give your startup a fighting chance by avoiding these 10 reasons why small businesses fail.

Growing too fast: While growth is desirable, over-expansion is a serious error. Wanting to be the first to market with a new product, taking on added overhead, or trying to prove to anxious investors that you’re growing can all spur you to overextend your business financially. Set realistic goals and expand only as needs dictate.

Failing to track your finances: Look at businesses that fail and you’ll find that many of them took on too much debt. Learn to pay strict attention to your finances, and keep careful records of all money coming in and going out.

Overspending: Many new entrepreneurs burn through their startup capital before their cash flow is positive. This often happens because of misconceptions about how business operates. If you’re just starting out, seek out seasoned veterans you can turn to for advice before making big expenditures.

Lack of reserve capital: Be prepared for unexpected increases in the costs of things like utilities, materials, and labor. Make sure you keep enough reserve cash to carry you through tough times and seasonal slowdowns.

Poor choice of location: Don’t let a cheap lease tempt you into choosing the wrong location. Consider competition (how many similar businesses are located nearby?) and accessibility (is the area well served by freeways, public transportation, and foot traffic?).

Poor execution: Poor customer service and overall employee incompetence will quickly sink your business. Make sure your employees place a premium on customer service. Develop systems and processes for how tasks should be accomplished, and create internal controls to monitor them.

An inadequate business plan: A well thought-out business plan forces you to think about the future and the challenges you’ll face. It also forces you to consider your financial needs, your marketing and management plans, your competition, and your overall strategy.

Failing to change with the times: The ability to recognize opportunities and be flexible enough to adapt is crucial to surviving and thriving. Learn how to wear multiple hats, respond nimbly, and develop new areas of expertise.

Ineffective marketing: Customers can’t do business with you if they don’t know you’re there. It doesn’t cost a lot to advertise and promote your business through online marketing, social media, email, local search, and more.

Underestimating the competition: Customer loyalty doesn’t just happen — you have to earn it. Watch your competition and stay one step ahead of them. If you don’t take care of your customers, your competition will.

These reasons why small businesses fail is critical, if this is important and you think a friend will like to read. Please also share.

Career / Do You Have A Horrible Boss - It's Ok Just Grab These Few Tips And Deal With It by seanpizzy(m): 9:53am On Feb 01, 2016
Sometimes we all have sad moments in the office because of one reason or the other. Now to worsen the case, we have this annoying boss that constantly yell at everybody. The question is, how will you handle such boss?
You must have a mindset of the fact that you can not change your boss. Secondly you just have to bear in mind that you can only control or manage your responses/reactions. While is not so easy to handle horrible bosses, Todaybase presensts some strategies to manage your boss and minimize your worries.

1. Gain the power to direct or determine who you are

To manage bosses isn't a days' job, but first to achieve this, you need to properly work on yourself. Bring in a test to your personality and focus on where your strengths and weaknesses lies then you begin to make adjustments or improve where necessary. Of course you may be the reason why you don't have a conducive working culture with your boss. If its the other way round, devise a means where you can steam controversies or better adhere to advises given. But to solve any issue, you need to relax and think critically so as to identify what the issue is and then develop strategies towards its resolution. Take the stoop, attend to your boss with great respect, learnt to be productive and achieve results. This is of great essence as it will give you some level of comfort, make you feel much better and minify your boss negative impact on you.

2. Develop a priority scale

They say make hay while the sun shines. Make do with favorable circumstances and if you have been assigned a task ensure you prioritize them and meet up with timelines. You can always set up a journal, create plans and put in action steps for your responsibilities. Then bring it up for adjustments or further correction. Why this? You are curbing wrong interpretations of what has to be done. Most bosses will be delighted to have this strategy as it saves them time.

3. Communicate ahead

Some bosses hate sudden unexpected event especially the oppressive ones. Ones you have identified such boss, always put them in the loop: emails, telephones, meetings and normal events that needs their attention. Notwithstanding, do not over communicate, learn the best means that works for your boss and use it. Bad bosses always think humans don't make mistakes and that have made them feel there is no excuse for you not to communicate or inform them of any activity where need be.

4. Confront wisely

Yes it is of great essence that you become principled but don't be foolish. There is high possibility that for every fight you throw at your boss, you will lose. Bring up your arguments and confront positively, let the argument have a positive impact on the business with strong key-points to back up your perception. Records are extremely important when communicating with a bad boss. Be it mails, documents, amongst others. Ensure you always have a copy of vital information. In times of arguments, always present your fact completely as this will gain you some respect from your boss.

5. Get people's opinion

Tactically get your co-worker's opinion about your boss. How their experiences are? are you just the only one having such experience? what is the major issue? how do these your co-workers react to issues? Do this to expand your perception and develop better ways. Sometimes you may also need to talk to your boss's boss. Get to know their relationship, is he/she also like your boss? or an an approachable kind of boss. Moving above your direct manager's head can hit back at you, so you have to do it with extreme care.

Nairaland / General / Kill Don Jazzy – Very Interesting Strong Worded Article Written By Bayo Omisore by seanpizzy(m): 1:02am On Jan 17, 2016
This article is interesting… I don’t think Don Jazzy will be happy reading this…lol…Read below;

So to start with, I am not a hater. I do not wish any evil on Don Jazzy or Michael Collins. If anything, I can be categorized as an interested onlooker when I want to be passive or an invested businessman active in the Nigerian music industry for the past 18 years. .

In addition, I am a writer. I have been told I am a very decent writer. Or maybe I’m living on past glory. Either way, I had another title I was working with. But I decided this one would attract the eyeballs I desperately need to get the attention I so desperately crave. .

Finally, I understand the workings of PR. Hell, I handled the PR of Mo’ Hits in 2006 when the only talent was D’banj. Back then, Wande was a dancer, Dr. Sid (I plead the Fifth) and D’Prince was a model. I do not wish death on Michael Collins. I however think the Don Jazzy brand is dead. .

Or should be rested. I’ll tell you why. Do you remember Don Jazzy? Remember that Soundcity advert. I remember the first day I met D’banj and Don Jazzy. This must have been either late 2004 or sometime in 2005. I had been in the business as a journo for a few years by then so I knew them. .

We had done a story on Mr. Solek at Hip Hop World in 2003. Jazzy had worked as the keyboardist of the band but he had moved on to music production working under JJC. He was very quiet; never uttered a word. You could have been forgiven thinking he was mute. .

Back to the Soundcity advert. Don Jazzy didn’t say a word. Just whispered in D’banj’s ear while D’banj handled his business. It was brand new. It was refreshing. The ratings of the newly-established Soundcity music channel went through the roof. .

D’banj and Don Jazzy became the perfect example of a match made in heaven. Cobhams, if he could see them back then, would have known they were going places. So much so that Dr. Sid, a University of Ibadan-trained dentist and self-appointed administrator of eLDee’s Trybe Records, was happy to abandon that project and his album project to work under the tutelage of these relatively unknowns. After that, the communication from the Mo’ Hits camp was that Don Jazzy was the boss. He was being driven around town by a university graduate who earns an enviable salary working in an oil company (Fifth). Jazzy didn’t speak in public. .

He never granted interviews. He asked simply that whatever you wanted to offer to him should be offered to his ‘children’. (Note that he
had been calling his artistes his children since the Mo’ Hits days. .

Nobody questioned it then because this is the Don we’re talking about here.) In fact, once, I was at the crib of one of the Mo’ Hits people, and he told me I had to leave because Jazzy was coming. I was genuinely curious and somewhat impressed. .

Impressed because they kept the charade going even off- camera. Curious because, well, so could it be it wasn’t a charade after all? Remember all those award ceremonies where someone from Mo’ Hits would win an award and spend half the speech time praise-and-worshipping Don Jazzy? .

Or when Don Jazzy himself would win an award for best production and his wards would mount the stage to receive on his behalf even while he was seated in the front row in the same building. Guys, let’s be honest, these are the images of Don Jazzy that made him the brand he is today. .

Those days when he only worked with his Mo’ Hits people and a literal handful of associates. In the real world, a don is a crime boss, crime lord, mob boss, kingpin, criminal mastermind; a person in charge of a criminal organization. .

He typically has absolute or nearly absolute control over his subordinates, is greatly feared by his subordinates for his ruthlessness and willingness to take lives in order to exert his influence, and profits from the criminal endeavors in which his organization engages. .

Replace the word ‘crime’ with music and you have Don Jazzy. Mo’ Hits was an organized entity. At the head of it all was Don Jazzy; the Capo di tutt’i capi, the Godfather, the boss of all bosses. Complete with his staff. D’banj was his Underboss.Dr. Sid, being the most educated and exposed of the lot, was the Consigliere. The other artistes were the Caporegimes. The management and the other stragglers and hangers-on were the foot soldiers. In the golden words of Christopher Wallace, “things done changed!”

Fast forward to January 1 2016. Now I am not interested in who was right or who was wrong. For me, the happenings of the early morning January 2 2016 made the Headies. They set the tone for the year. This is entertainment dammit. .

Are you not entertained?!!! If you ask me, Don Jazzy had no business speaking to Olamide. I have seen enough Mafia movies to know that no Don that understands his worth would get so emotional as to entertain the thought of passing such a message on a public stage. .

That job is left to his Consigliere, in this case Dr. Sid, who is already disliked intensely for his supposed role in the Mo’ Hits breakup
via the leaked tape. People would have talked. But Jazzy would have maintained his self-respect. .

He opened himself to ridicule the minute he opened his mouth on that stage. I can trace this handfalling back to when Jazzy decided to start appearing in songs after the bitter divorce from D’banj. The Don Jazzy we knew and respected from a distance fell from heaven and became human. .

In fact, the Kokomaster showed his disgust over Jazzy’s features after their falling out. I very much doubt this would have happened if they were still together. Not that I think they knew any better then, but they had one script and they kept it simple by sticking to that story. .

Of course, with the breakup and the subsequent interviews granted by D’banj, too much information was shared in the public space that caused irreparable damage to the carefully-crafted Don Jazzy image. I think Don Jazzy should have moved on to the next stage. .

Or developed a next stage to move to. He certainly should not have done Loya or Konga or Jantamanta (wtf?) as Don Jazzy. That’s not the Don Jazzy we were introduced to.In truth, while we loved and respected Don Jazzy for his mystique, his music-making prowess and his relationship with D’banj, there was only so much he could achieve as a brand. However, this new guy is fun, is funny, seems to be humble, is extremely generous and, as such, is an endorsement magnet getting business from an endless list of companies. .

As it should be. As a businessman, it makes every sense for Michael Collins to be this new guy with access to millions of advertising dollars. But he cannot expect to eat his cake and have it. Something has to give!

In conclusion, I think that as the head writer in this story, Mr. Collins needs to kill the Don Jazzy character. It has made him money and fame. But perhaps its time to quit the ‘mafia’ and live a normal life. So, on a lighter note. What name should Don Jazzy go with now? My Guy Jazzy?.`

Nairaland / General / Kill Don Jazzy – Very Interesting Strong Worded Article Written By Bayo Omisore by seanpizzy(m): 7:55pm On Jan 16, 2016
This article is interesting… I don’t think Don Jazzy will be happy reading this…lol…Read below;

This lady is of the view that Yahoo Yahoo boys are just taking their own share of the national cake, and it was better than standing on the roadsides to rob people.

As far as she is concerned, the boys are just being innovative and taking back what has been stolen from them. They are like Robin Hood, except that they steal from the rich and keep it for themselves. Lmao!

Nairaland / General / Test Your Eyes With Birds In Flight – Very Simple by seanpizzy(m): 2:07pm On Jan 09, 2016
On first glance you might be forgiven for thinking this illusion does not appear to be doing very much, but if you stare at the image long enough the birds will start to move. Are these birds really moving or not, if they are, which direction?

Technology Market / Video+photos: LG Won’t Kill Us: Hands-on With Lg’s Roll-up Flexible Screen by seanpizzy(m): 2:01pm On Jan 05, 2016
If you’re in the business of making TV cabinets – look away now.

For the rest of you, feast your eyes on a remarkable innovation-in-progress.

LG Display has been working on its fully flexible screen for some time now, but it’s at this year’s CES the BBC was given the exclusive first hands-on.

The screen can be rolled up and scrunched around, and the display is full HD.

The one I played with was 18in (45.7cm) corner to corner, but the team at LG say they’re aiming for screens that are 55in and beyond.

At that size they will be able to produce a screen quality of 4K, they say – that’s four times HD.

Right now, the resolution is 1,200 by 810 pixels.

How did they do it? Of course they wouldn’t share the precise details, but the crucial technological leap has been moving from LED TVs to OLED TVs.

The O stands for organic, and it removes the necessity of a back panel providing light to the screen. Therefore, it bends.

Why would you want a bendable TV? LG says it’s ideal for making displays, like in a shop, but also for people who no longer want to sacrifice an entire corner of a room to a television.
