The two Reps from Anambra south said they were not consulted, not that they rejected the proposal. You know what consultation in today's Nigeria's political parlance means. Lobby possibly with cash.

But when Mbadinuju from Anambra south was governor of Anambra state, he and then Imo state gov, Udenwa, spearheded the demand for creation of Njaba state then, the same Njaba state proposal called Orlu state this time. Another former military gov from Anambra south as well as traditional rulers from Anambra south also resolved for creation of Njaba state.

Lagos is fast becoming home to kidnappers and armed robbers

What a state and country ruled by unfortunate people

To tell you people the truth about yourselves and your reality is to become your enemy.

Whereas normal folks, into self-improvement , and not gloriying in what is wrong, as you lot do, would always welcome the truth being spoken however hurtful.

Abeg, Is Cubana Chief Priest lying? Asking that question and then accepting the truthful answer is where normal, reasonable and responsible people begin the journey to right the wrongs. Not engaging in redundant whataboutism and hypocritical talk about others.

This is why I laugh when you people boast of the capacity to have a great Country in Biafra. Yourvcharacter as a people cannot breed anything other than a lawless, violent, unfair, genocide-ridden, discriminatory, dysfunctional and dystopian land.

Education / Re: A 12 Years Old Child About To Be Given Out In Marriage by Godons1: 5:43am
joemag:
Two years ago, I got accepted into the Teach for Nigeria Fellowship an education inclined Non Governmental Organization that is committed to bridging the gap of educational inequality and providing quality education to children in underserved communities in Nigeria.

My first day in class I took notice of the exceptional ability of one of my kids and upon further inquiry I discovered that she was from the Northern part of the country. Her name was Aishat .

Aishat was uncommonly intelligent and what drew my attention to her most was her maturity. At ten she behaved way matured than her age.

One day, she came to me during break and told me that her father was against her education. He informed her that she won't go beyond primary school. As an ambitious girl she was down and it was visible as she wasn't herself again.

I encouraged her and told her that she don't need to worry herself. That she will be called a graduate one day.

Today I received a call from one of my colleagues that Aishat's father has perfected plans to give her into marriage to one Alhaji there in Ogun. The twist here is that I and my partner have already secured an all expenses scholarship for this girl for her secondary education from a guy that is based in Canada whom took interest in the work we were doing on the kids.
Since hearing the news I haven't been myself and can't imagined such a brilliant brain been wasted and her dreams cut short. Though I am out of the fellowship and presently not in Ogun but I have tried all I could to keep in touch with my kids.
Please, how can this girl get help?

You no dey talk about the Child marriage, wey dey happen for your backyard for South East?

Religion / A Father's Blessing by Btruth: 5:33am
A father’s blessing

Sun, 16 Jun 2024

‘By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.’ Hebrews 11:20

Dad, here are two Bible ingredients for blessing your children and grandchildren:

1) The power of prayer. In Scripture, a father’s blessing included an open-eyed prayer to God for his children. Isaac, who was a farmer, said to his son, ‘May God give you heaven’s dew and earth’s richness—an abundance of grain and new wine’ (Genesis 27:28 NIV). Have your children ever heard you talk to God about them? Perhaps they have heard you say harsh words like, ‘How could you be so stupid? Don’t you ever think? You will never amount to anything!’ If so, apologise today and ask for their forgiveness. Let them hear you invoke God’s richest blessing over each of their lives. A father’s prayer of blessing over his family is a powerful thing—it’s life changing!

2) The vision of a glorious future. The Bible says, ‘Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, …’ (Proverbs 29:18 NASB20). School counsellors tell us that many of their students lack vision. Why? Because they see nothing ahead for them except economic gloom, unemployment, and hard times. They need somebody to believe in them and their future, to believe they can succeed and live happy lives, and that the best is still ahead for them. Isaac didn’t wait for his boys to devise their own vision for the future. He prayed openly for their future success, their rise to prominence, and for respect and favour with family and society. Your kids don’t need you to manipulate them; they need you to motivate them. And you do that by blessing them!

Cyberknight:

Your points are well made, but I disagree with all of them.

Foreign investment in property in the UK has been largely negative in terms of consequences. Effectively, people in the UK, with its lowish levels of pay and high costs of living, are competing against the middle to upper classes of the whole world to own property in their own country. The only slightly positive effect has been additional government revenue from tax on property related transactions, but in my opinion any benefit is outweighed by the overall negative consequences.

While the government was gorging on Russian and sundry other dodgy origin money, and dashing out residency and citizenship to anyone who rocked up with enough money of any provenance in their pocket to pay, its people were slowly being priced out of their own capital city and other desirable locations. While most people have the impression that its mainly luxury property in upscale postcodes that foreigners are flogging among themselves, that's not the case - they're everywhere, buying up new developments offplan, etc. Oxford, for instance, is full of rich foreign students and it sometimes seems as if all of them buy property before they leave.

Hehe... most of what I said was factual and not opinionated. Landlords have been selling, house prices and rents have hardly 'crashed' as expected but rather rents have shot up. Who would have thought? There are different market groups here. The house being bought by the Russian oligarch in Mayfair would not be in the hands of working class Brit before they bought it and even now if they are seized and sold or 'taxed to the teeth'. Don't forget it was the Russian money that the likes of Chelsea and the Premier league gorged on to generate such huge revenues for the country.

Coming to Oxford, forget the populist talk of 'foreigners taking over our land' because a few Chinese people own a home. People have also insinuated same about me despite my county being over 95% British white. Can you state what ratio of houses in Oxford are foreign owned and how this compares to other UK cities?

This is not saying that there shouldn't be effective taxation. There's already selective taxation in place for second and foriegn owners. All I'm saying is that taxation should consider the far reaching consequences, understand the very complex nature of housing and be progressive.

This person is a scammer. If you listen to people like this, you'll end up in a racist, backwards country with no visa, no job, and possibly in prison.

Another thing about these Asian countries is that they're full of organized crime. Organized crime basically runs a lot of their countries and people are terrified of them. People talk about human trafficking, but they also have a whole organ trafficking industry. The last thing you want to do is put yourself in a situation where you're vulnerable, with no protections, no options, and surrounded by these sick racists.

Also, many people foolish enough to go to these countries simply because they see skyscrapers end up committing crimes to survive. In the US, maybe you get deported, or you go to prison. In Asian countries, they execute.

Some Asian countries only LOOK like west Europe and North America. They are NOT the same. Don't waste your time, money, or effort. Frankly, even if you illegally go to west Europe/North America, you can still survive and hustle your way to something. You're not doing that in Asia.

So true! I don’t blame Buhari. I blame the SOPHISTICATED MORONs that voted him into power. They’re the DUNDEE UNITED.

"One year after he left; he disappeared back into oblivion like he did after he was ousted by IBB. He won’t lead any regional or continental efforts towards better elections, & in deepening democracy. He doesn’t inspire anyone; he remained ineffectual & aloof (in & out of office).

Since Buhari left office, he has holed up himself in Daura. Neither ECOWAS nor AU have found him worthy for any international assignment including the simple task of monitoring elections in Senegal or elsewhere.A truly unfortunate character who had no business running a Local government not to talk of a country. Buhari was just unintelligent, colorless, with a wicked touch of nepotism, incompetence, & unholy corruption. A hound that attacked the very essence of your livelihoods.

In contrast, take a look at Goodluck Jonathan, as weak as he was presumed. He is still going around the globe, making impacts,Today they now invite Jonathan for govt functions, the same Jonathan they carried his mock coffin, just because they wanted power they got the power but they can’t fulfill their promises to the people. Look at Obasanjo, years after, still going to Nations, making impact, the man that called some people DOT in a circle has returned to a DOT, totally forgotten.

If there was anything worst than ineffectual, he would have made the cut. He couldn't even inspire himself. Everywhere he went, he left the stench of poverty, hopelessness, despair, & regrets.Today, only two people hype him. They do so not because of any type of real achievements, but sycophancy; the type that defies every sense of obligation.

He was the representative of a Nigeria that cried for help. The proof that popularity is not at par with capacity. How will you run a country for 8 years & no one will invite you to give a lecture, nor deliver a "one-line" keynote address? In the life of me, I am yet to see a man as insignificant as this one.

My prayer is that someday, somehow, Nigerians will recover from the torture & the trauma. An unfortunate event in your annals of History; both as a military head of state, & a civilian ruler. Like in all Forms of Rule, there is decline & plenty. But he took Nigeria to a place less than obscurity, & left many in multidimensional poverty. He offered no apologies, & blamed others but himself.

In fact, he warned that “under no circumstances should anyone invite him to render an account of his misrule.” I doubt if anyone calls him for a naming ceremony. Very insignificant thus far; no impact, no legacy. A colorless personality, he won't even write a memoir of himself. The fact that they can toy with your lives, & get away with it, is the most depressing. Such a privilege don't exist in other climes. And this is only a glimpse of how ineffectual & aloof he was. How do you hate your country so much?

One could argue that some people used him to get to power, for their own selfish use. Having achieved their aim, they let him slide back into oblivion (to enjoy the rest of his misspent obscure life). A calamity that befell a people. A plague that defied every logic. History will remain unkind to him...." Credits - OPs.

bemeruca:

so why did you say this in bold?

Before 1948, there was a civil WAR. The Israeli struggle did not start when they got their independence

I agree there was war in the area, or conflict, at least.

The conflict has its origins in the rise of Zionism in Europe and the arrival of Jewish settlers to Ottoman Palestine in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.[23] The local Arab population opposed Zionism, primarily out of fear of territorial displacement and dispossession.[23] The Zionist movement garnered the support of an imperial power in the 1917 Balfour Declaration issued by Britain, which promised to support the creation of a "Jewish homeland in Palestine". Following the British occupation of the formerly Ottoman region during World War I, Mandatory Palestine was established as a British mandate. Increasing Jewish immigration led to tensions between Jews and Arabs which grew into intercommunal conflict.[24][25] In 1936, an Arab revolt erupted demanding independence, which the British suppressed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli%E2%80%93Palestinian_conflict

And that above only refers to the current conflict, and not one I referred to as going back 5000 or so years!

As I said,

budaatum:

Bem, we are talking about one of the most embattled regions likely in the entire history of humankind. And it takes quite a lot of reading to even begin to realise how complex it is not to talk of understand it, unless you want to claim you've lived there for 5000 or so years so therefore know the various diverse cultures better than buda who clearly hasn't lived there.

Any day one chooses between the above is just the idle stupid choice of a date that suits ones argument, and I am not interested.

I kuku no like Island for anything. It's during rainy season you'll know the true meaning of "the rich also cry". That's when you'll see those their imported furnitures floating inside their high and mighty houses, as a result of flood.

Traffic nko? Abeg, let's not even talk about that one!

Nothing of Island interests me at all.

Mainland is far better in all things.

Politics / Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by NwekereNdokl: 12:19am
Listen lemme warn you, if you don’t take your tantrums to your imo state thread, I will launch attack in that thread. Take your stoopid Orlu state to imo state. Anambra is a coinage from Omambala. Omambala existed even before Nigeria. Anambra is a monolithic state , no part of Anambra is interested in your useless state creation. Anambra can never be part of your Orlu state , the earlier you know this the better for you . There’s no single state agitation in Anambra and no town in Anambra wants to go out of Anambra . There’s no Anambra town that’s under Orlu parish not today and not before. Instead it was much of imo state that were in Anambra until it was carved to maintain original omambala. So stop spewing nonsense or this discussion will land in imo thread .

Amah70:

FYI,
1) there is no Igbo grouping known as Abambra, not to talk of non existent monolithic Abambra state.
2) Anambra is a coinage by northern military dictators who created states.
3) Anambra River known as Omambala flowing from Uzo-Uwani to Nkisi River and joining River Niger, does not pass through Abambra South senatorial district.
4) Much of today's Abambra South were originally in Orlu Division before the beginning of creation of states in Nigeria.
5) Even today, much of the Church Parishes in Anambra south are in Orlu Dioceses.
6) Even today, many people from Abambra South are members of Old Orlu Divisional Unions outside Igbo land, and in foreign countries.
7) Abambra State University in Uli, near Orlu, was established by former gov Mbadinuju from Uli, but when Mbadinuju left office, Abambra State House of Assembly moved to remove the university from Uli, because they knew that parts of Anambra south would in no distant time form a new state with Orlu senatorial zone. At last, the university was renamed Odumegwu Ojukwu University, and parts of the University taken to another location in Abambra North.
I come in peace ✌️

Have you been told that God sent you to the world to come and make money? That is what you have been made to believe. Materialism and the worship of money have been the focus of man in our modern world. But this lesson carries a very vital lesson: you're born to SERVE!
Every existing thing in this world have some sort of service to render to others. So it is with man. What actually motivate you to get up to work everyday? Is it because you love your work and want others to benefit from it? Or is it because of the money you will receive? It's sad to know that in our time, most people work for money- just for money alone. Most people talk about building a house and buying a car as if these are the main reasons for living. That is why you cheat, deceive, lie, steal, owe, extort and do all sort of things just to get money. Now let me remind you something: loving service is the key to a happy life.
