IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE YOUTH ARE RISKING THEIR LIVES TO PROTEST, HERE IS A FEW REASONS WHY.

IFEOMA ABUGU, 20, a young lady who had just graduated and was in NYSC, was arrested in place of her fiancee at his residence in Lokogoma, Abuja. Ifeoma was sexually assaulted and later died in SARS custody a day after she was arrested. Justice has not prevailed.

GODGIFT FERGUSON EKERETE ,24 , TONY ORUAMA ,21, HARRY ATARIA, 26, were arrested during a raid and then killed in detention that same day on 3 July 2008. They were falsely accused of being armed robbers and cultists. The police officers responsible are still freely roaming.

KOLADE JOHNSON, was killed on the 31st March 2019 by a SARS officer, for ‘looking like a fraudster’. He left his home to watch a Liverpool vs Tottenham Spurs match and never returned. The officer responsible still roams freely.

After several searches at police station, his family later found out about his death. The police has refused to comment on his death and no investigation was ever made into it.

TINA ezekwe, 16, on 26th May 2020, was hit by a bullet when a drunk police officer opened fire to disperse a crowd that had gathered after he shot a bus driver who refused to give him bribe. She was rushed to the hospital and died two days after. Justice has not been served even though it is one of the most popular police killings of recent times.

CHRISTAIN ONUIGBO, 28, A father of one was shot on the 19th March 2009 while parking his car in Jiwa, Abuja. He was then taken to the police station where he spent a night with his wounds before transferred to a hospital that could not treat him since he had no police report. He died on the 21st March.

AYOMIDE TAIWO, 20, On the 9th August 2020 was returning back home after the Eid-el-Kabir celebration in Osun state with his friend when their motorcycle was stopped by a drunk SARS .After paying the bribe they demanded, the police saw he had more money and then attacked him. He was in coma for six days before he lost his battle.

ANEKE OKORIE, 39, a father of four, was making an honest living for himself Okada riding. On 15th May 2009 he was stopped at a checkpoint in Emene, Enugu. Unable to pay the bribe, he was shot and later died on his way to the hospital. His murderer tried to frame him but was seen by a passerby, 2020 his case is still on “trial”.

TIYAMIU KAZEEM, 21, a footballer in Remo stars, on the 24th February 2020, was stopped by SARS officials and as they forcefully tried to take him into custody, fell out of the SARS vehicle and was ran over by a moving car. This sparked protests where 5 people were killed. Tiyamiu and the peaceful protesters have not gotten justice.

THOMAS MMABU NEElE, 20, in November 2011, was hit by a stray bullet while taking his bath at home. His family found his body at the mortuary which was apparently brought in by the police. Because of this, they were not allowed to retrieve his body and were unable to bury their child.

PETER CHIBUZOR OFURUM, was a UNIPORT student who was killed on the April 11, 2016 during a student protest organised to oppose the increase of school fees. His school denied him as a student even though he was the president of management science in the school at the time of his death. His killer is nowhere to be found.

DANIEL IKEAGUCHI, 20, and his friend were waiting outside a hotel for his taxi in Rivers State, when he saw SARS officers and ran away in fear of being arrested or extorted. The officers accused them of being thieves, they stopped running. As his friend was unpacking his bag for searching, the officers shot Daniel. They were then arrested and Daniel was given no medical attention, when his family finally heard, it was too late.

LINDA IGWETU, on July 4th 2018, had just finished her Youth Service in Abuja, barely a day before, when she was killed by a SARS officer, Benjamin Peters, while on her way home with friends. When rushed to the hospital, the doctor refused to treat her without a police report and she died.

CHUKWUEMEKA MATHEW ONOVO, 22, left his father’s house on 4th July 2008. There was a shootout nearby and Chukwuemeka was hit by a stray bullet. MUS'AB SAMMANI, a graduate of computer Science ,on December 4th 2019, was killed over a minor misunderstanding in Kano state. His killer is not brought to justice.

SO BEFORE YOU CALL NIGERIAN YOUTH LAZY, WEAK CRIMINALS. ASK YOURSELF WERE ANY OF THESE INNOCENT PEOPLE DESERVING OF THIS FATE? #SARMUSTEND #SarsMustGoNow #EndSARS

This is what led to protest. SARS has been disbanded. People want more, I get that too. But if it is now turned to "Buhari must resign" or "revolution" or "overthrowing", then it is something entirely new

I have no problem with the protest, infact iam 100% in support of the protest.
My problem is why will you block roads for essential workers? If doctors did not go to work, do you know how many people will die in one day? The security men that have the responsibility of protecting us and the territory of this country, why blocking them? Do you expect a soldier to join you in protest?
Protesters can block the governor office, they can block the president office they can block the national assembly and state assembly, they can even occupy every stadium but not blocking roads for the poor Nigerians you claim to fight for. I know how a pregnant woman nearly die when the husband was conveying her to airforce hospital yesterday in Jos. The woman was bleeding and the road was blocked. Thanks to some soldiers that helped to forcefully open the road.
We are protesting against police brutality but we are also brutalizing our poor innocent brethren.
NB Iam 100% in support of the protest but against blocking of roads.

Miracle2020:
then why are they denying soldiers passage to their working places.
Pls somebody should advise the protesters at old airport round about in Jos to stop denying soldiers access to the road. Because tomorrow Monday if they deny soldiers passage, something bad will happen. I have said my own oo.

Crime / Most Of SARS Killings by miltonchux(m): 10:00am On Oct 14, 2020
CHIBUIKE ANAMS, 23, had his life cut short on the 24th July 2009, when the Nigerian Police raided a guest house in Rivers State . After several searches at police station, his family later found out about his death. The police has refused to comment on his death and no investigation was ever made into it.

Politics / #endsars: Disbandment Not Enough, This Is What Nigerians Want By Alexander Ubani by Thandiubani(m): 8:34am On Oct 12, 2020
For a long time now, many men of the Nigeria police have been acting as a lawless entity used to do the dirty work of the government. They harass, assault, brutalize, and shoot peaceful protesters even when the constitution is clear on the rights of Nigerians to peaceful protest. Ordinary citizens are not safe from their rascality; now and again, they are seen in public space, assaulting and brutalizing civilians on simple matters such as traffic offence, etc. Instead of taking the person to court and handling issues as stipulated by law, these errant officers of the Nigeria police either forcefully extort money from their victims with POS or go ahead to brutalize such individuals mercilessly in public view.

Nigerians are shouting it loud and clear - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

The Nigeria police is notorious for always defending the criminal elements among them. Just not too long ago, a senior police officer, Yusuf Kolo, who allegedly tortured a man, Hassan Alfa, to death in 2014 after wrongly accusing him of armed robbery received a double promotion.

Another worrisome case is that of a deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Ibrahim Danjuma charged with murder after he was said to have ordered his officers to open fire that killed five automobile spare-parts dealers and a woman between the night of June 7 and 8, 2005. He received speedy promotions afterward, while the family members of the innocent traders his officers killed after tagging them armed robbers wallow in pain.

Nigerians are tired of an unprofessional police force whose men are no longer trained to kill criminals and robbers but innocent civilians. Nigerians are tired of a toothless Inspector-General of Police whose orders are never followed and disregarded at will by his men. Nigerians are tired of a heartless government that keeps silent while the lives of Nigerians are wasted by those they equip with weapons. Nigerians are tired of a president who runs to Twitter to wish the US President speedy recovery from coronavirus while keeping mute as citizens protest over SARS.

Banning the Special Anti-robbery Squad is right, but this is not the first time we have heard such empty outpourings either from the police boss or the government. SARS was disbanded in December of 2017 and banned from conducting stop and search operations except when necessary; but the extortion, brutalization, and killing of innocent Nigerians by SARS didn't stop.

In August 2018, SARS was overhauled as officers were stopped from engaging in arbitrary arrest and civil matters after another public outcry. The order given by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was again flouted by hopeless SARS operatives.

Due to the failure of the officers to obey VP's order, again in September 2018, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Idris ordered SARS to stop the random searching of people's phones immediately. But this order was flouted again as if it never existed, which led to another public outcry in January of 2019 forcing the IGP to issue a new order for the total reorganization of SARS.

Sadly, that order was totally ignored as SARS continued its assault on civilians. That again led to another order in February 2020 in which the IGP called for total disbandment of satellite offices of SARS. So there is no reason to rejoice following IGP's directive today ordering the disbandment of SARS.

Banning SARS is a step in the right direction, but with all the examples cited above, it is very clear that just giving that order is not enough. There should be a concrete step in motion to see that the order is followed to the letter. The Inspector-General of Police must move from state to state to confront all police commissioners and query them on why his orders are never followed. There is need for a total reformation of the Nigeria police because it has failed to meet the expectations of the people in securing lives and properties. Recent events happening in the country shows that the police doesn't prioritize the lives of Nigerians, but place much emphasis on political shows and events. Over 31,000 police officers were sent to Edo state for the governorship election, but this same police has refused to secure the lives of Nigerians when it matters most. Imagine that the same police that sent over 31,000 personnel to help in conducting the election in Edo state could only send 500 personnel to Southern Kaduna were bandits and herdsmen have been invading villages, raping, killing, and destroying innocent lives. The police must set its priorities right and execute its constitutionally given role in a most effective manner.

As the police announce the disbandment of the now infamous Special Anti-robbery squad, what is the fate of those unprofessional officers who have been causing Nigerians serious pain and bringing the police shame? Will they be dissolved into other departments to carry on their nefarious activities under a new name? The police must provide a compelling strategy it plans to use in ending the era of menace by these unscrupulous elements in the police. If not, then the disbandment of SARS is just another hogwash.

As a democratic government, the police are by constitutional order supposed to protect and save lives. It is not to be used as a political tool to disobey the same constitution that created it. Disrupting peaceful protests and allowing its officers to attack and brutalize civilians expressing their rights is a serious indictment on the police, and that happening in 2020 shows to all that our police has now become a puppet being used by the federal government to cripple dissenting voices and oppress those opposing the injustice in the country.

The Nigeria police must evolve. All democratic practices must be followed and respected as the letters of the law are not ambiguous. While the rest of the world has made an improvement by investing in technology, the Nigeria police force still lags behind refusing to embrace the digital age. Is it a taboo if police officers in Nigeria go about with body cameras? Will heaven fall if police conduct patrols with cars that are roadworthy instead of the eyesore we see them in all the time? The culture of decay has eaten deep into the police, so much so that nothing seems to work there except extortion and bribery. Bail is free, but when you go to the police to bail someone, they will force you to pay. The system is so bleeped.

Nigerians want a police force that is accountable. Guns and ammunition must be accounted for by all officers. We have seen police officers who are into armed robbery; some even go as far as selling guns and ammunition to robbers.

As Nigerians hail the disbandment of SARS, they expect that proactive measures will be put in place to curtail the troubling excesses that have kept millions of Nigerians protesting online and offline against the police. Let it not be another empty noise from the IGP and after some months, we will be back again protesting #EndSars. Nigerians are tired of using a cosmetic approach to an issue that has cost many innocent lives.

I stand with these innocent Nigerians killed by the police - Jimoh Isiaka, Kolade Johnson, Ifeoma Abugu, Ayomike Taiwo, Chibuike Anams, Timayiu Kazeem, Emmanuel Egbo, Peter Ofurum, Godgift Ferguson Ekerete, Tony Oruama, Harry Ataria, Daniel Adewuyi Tella, Modebayo Awosika, Chinedu Ani, Linda Igwetu, Tina ezekwe - to demand for a better police, Nigeria and government.

My name is Alexander Thandi Ubani

Celebrities / #ENDSARS Burnaboy React, Launch Billboard by Trynaija(m): 5:05pm On Oct 10, 2020
Many have been calling BurnaBoy out for his choice of silence since #EndSARS protest escalated in Nigeria.

No one knows that BurnaBoy silence was that he is also busy making arrangements for voice of people to be heard.

Below is his statement :

” have taken the past week to gather my thoughts. I usually respond to these matters with my emotions and my frustra-tions, this time I have chosen to ignore the attempts; well-meaning or derogatory, to draw me out.

This is not and should not be about me, it is about a fundamental problem that affects us all as Nigerians, as Africans, and as human beings.
The state of our country, Nigeria is tricky, it has been from before i was born.

My greatest concern in all of this is that SARS will end now as it allegedly has several times in the past (I recall giving calls to end SARS during my USA tour in April 2019) and morph into a different entity down the line with a different form or a different name. In my opinion, abolishing the unit is a definite first step but we cannot afford to stop there.
The major issue is PROFILING. THIS MUST BE ADDRESSED BY BOTH THE AUTHORITIES AND THE CITIZENRY. IT SHOULD NOT BE A CRIME TO BE A YOUNG PERSON IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY.

The old adage that you cannot judge a book by it’s cover is a wise one.
The seriousness of recent events has required me to express my commitment to my people in the following format: –
1. Top of mind: First and foremost, I applaud all of the protestors exercising their right to assemble and fight for justice.
2. PROJECT PROTECT: I have created a sub-fund under my charity -The Reach called (@projectprotectng) to help protestors that are wrongfully harmed/arrested by SARS during and after these protests. This is a fund for the people by the people.
3. Miseducation foundation: This initiative will primarily be focused on upward mobility of our community to give a voice and a platform. It will be a mix of sharing and providing educational/factual historical information to give perspective on the origins of our nation and our continent. We will also focus on providing broader platforms to amplify the creative and tech community (no matter the field).
My music is my essence and it is primarily for the empowerment of Nigerians and Africans. I have always and will always continue to use my voice for this cause as I deem fit not because I am forced to but because I have chosen to.
Tiyamiu Kazeem, Isaac Mbge, Ifeoma Abugu, Chibuike Anams, Christian Ugwuoke, Aneke Okorie, Tina ezekwe, Solomon Eze, Ayomide Taiwo, Godspower Edoha, Kolade Johnson, Chinedu Meniru, Augustina Arebu, Tunde Nafiu, Ifeanyi Ozor and those whose names are not known, may they never be forgotten.
Be safe out there family.
