Reflect7:

Because imported US crude oil is cheap. What we were importing was expensive REFINED petroleum products.

So the source of the crude is not that important insofar as it translates to cheaper home grown refined petroleum products and energy.

It’s a reversal of western practices in Africa, where they import our raw materials for cheap, then process and export for massive profits.

That’s exactly what Dangote is doing with US oil.
Brilliant angle.

I dey Abuja, I'm into pre purchase and post purchase inspection which I'm sure you know, you na my guy, you suppose holla at me say you wan make I check something and I'd do it for you before paying for the car. It seems the car was involved in a collision and probably flooded. To begin with, run a full system diagnosis on that car, pick up every code record them, then run a VIN check.

The seller would definitely deny knowledge of the problems the car is exhibiting.
I didn't know,
I was desperately looking for someone to check and act as escrow for the car in Abj.
I bought the car in a hurry cos I needed a replacement car I'd be using for work.

Dear OP,
Please don't panic.

I've dealt with these kind of problems on Mercedes and Ford brands and in most cases, it ends up being a CAN box. This is a small junction box that tie the car's CAN gateway multiplex connections together. If there's any corrosion due to moisture getting there, problems like these will arise mostly after a long drive. Typically, when you shut off the car and restart, the problem disappears momentarily and returns later after you've forgotten about it. These kind of problems are intermittent and can be very hard to replicate at the point of diagnosis.

It sounds easy, but it needs a lot of patience and hands-on car tech skill and proper tooling to be able to sort this one out.

Another regular culprit of this can be as a result of a weak battery. When the car's battery is on its last lap, it will occasionally freak out some of the modules on the car and then end up causing chaos in the CAN-BUS
network.

I am open to assist you remotely.

Did you check the history of the vehicle, prior to purchasing it (for historical flood/accident damage).......
No I didn't ooo,
I didn't even check physically before buying cos of distance and time,I just sent someone to go check and when he confirmed I paid.
I called the dealer,he is saying one sensor close to the bumper bla bla bla...could be the cause.
I don't know if I should trust what he's saying.

Car Talk / Please Help, problem With My Honda Accord!!! by SeaTrade(m): 10:34pm On Mar 24
Hello house,
Please I have a problem.
I just bought a 2021 Honda accord today and its driving me mental.
Got from a dealer as Toks yesterday...
Car was gotten from Abuja, only for it to get to PH and all warning lights on earth keep throwing up on the dash.
I'm going mental and really angry and disappointed, I should've trucked this vehicle I swear, I didn't even see it before buying, just sent a driver to go check and paid.
But driving is smooth no noise or whatever,na all these lights and it might seem its a disaster waiting to happen.
Car was driven for about 700km to get to me,
Please experts in the house, any pointers?
Gazzuzz,kingreign ,9icetoo,nurey,heavenlybang.
I'd take a pic of the dash now and upload.
Chai.

There are many types of inflation. Ours is cost push inflation which is caused by fuel subsidy removal, high cost of dollars which makes cost of production to rise.
How would an increase in interest rate reduce the price of petrol and diesel?
Because it will cut the too much naira in circulation used to chase FX and weaken it in the process.
No be prick them dey use buy dollars,na naira.
Curb it's spread(by hiking interest rates),you control "market forces".
Another means is to increase taxes and VAT.
Too much naira in the hands of the everyday Nigerian, that has to stop!

Increase in cost of production, transportation etc... that is what you get in a dollar-dependent economy.
No.Not related to dollar in anyway.
The problem is that weak naira makes cement cheap to our neighbours,so they want to get their cement from here instead of their home countries.
This sudden demand surge is what is inflation cement price because instead of traders to sell to you with your meagre naira, they rather sell to people coming from outside country.

If not, back and forth waybill cost.
But I'd advise, replace with what was there as installed by the makers. All these conversions always end up in disaster.

Politics / Re: Dangote Refinery Set For Production As Crude Supply Hits 6 Million Barrels by SeaTrade(m): 11:10am On Jan 09
History555:

The forex you save is the forex you will lose by not selling in international markets. Dangote should have built two refinery each 200k. Take advantage of this 400k nnpc swaps for refined crude every day. This 650k a day means nnpc must provide him 650k every day.
Dangote refinery will buy Nigerian crude at international prices from NNPC distributors and in dollars, so they didn't lose any sale.Only countries with a production surplus can sell some at local currency and maybe discounted rates,Nigeria don't have that kind of capacity yet.
Infact, they'll make more money selling to dangote because they'll not pay for logistics.
The only reason NNPC supplied this 6m barrels to Dangote is because it was part of their payment terms when buying the 20% stake in his refinery.
In essence,there'd be forex surplus.

Save the only way you can save forex ia if we increase production of crude

If he gets it from our current production it makes no difference
Crude is an international commodity that is sold even to local capacity at international prices,
Meaning he'll purchase whatever crude the refinery needs from NNPC at international prices and NNPC also get to save money by his patronage on logistics cost.
Rather than transport to Europe or Asia to sell, you sell in your backyard for same price.
Where is the loss? undecided
Or you thought NNPC was going to give him free crude or sell in cowries or what? undecided

Why are you tell us this?

How exactly is this Information important

Is the refinery not a private business?

I still waiting for how dangote would buy crude at the international price transport, refine and sale at 50 cents per litre
No one promised you cheap fuel from Dangote refinery.
All they're celebrating about is Nigeria is going to hit self sufficiency on energy and also save forex from not having to import it.
Whatever price the refinery sells is entirely up to them and their marketers.
It's that simple.

I think this is the point I was trying to address with the N50 per movie suggestion; the stakeholders like netflix can partner with the telcos to offer movies for a specific amount per movie data-free. This strategy will take piracy out of business and deliver more revenue for stakeholders which leads to higher quality & more income for everyone in the long run.
Why should a telco do that?what's now in it for them?
Also, you need some certain devices to access Netflix, will the telcos also provide that? Then why?over N50 movie?nah...
You can only take piracy out of business by law enforcement,no other foreseeable way.
What asaba does is the best thing for this market,
Produce as cheap as possible, distribute faster than the pirates and sell at similar price points and move to the next content.
Nothing else.
All these bougee ideas are dead on arrival.

Please is someone seeing this! Ignorance on display. For one your dumbass doesn't know investing in more distribution channels can significantly expand access to content.

I don't have to explain how business works, you know, but your hate has blinded that.
lol how do you invest in more distribution channels to expand access to content?
Build more cinemas?lots of existing ones are even empty.
E-channels?you'd still have only your existing market base cos the poor can't afford to waste N1500 for data because you're using an e-channel to serve them movies for N50.
Streaming subscription?again, you need data and a proper TV to do this.Again, the masses can't afford it.
So guess what?irrespective of investment,consumption/sales will cap to similar existing numbers, so why invest more?
So like I said, with Nigeria's large ,poor population,
The 2 segments of the industry will exist concurrently to serve different market demographics, with the asaba players making more turnover/profits/volume more than the lagos aesthetically great, fanfare counterpart.
Numbers is key in business, not emotions.

Hate dey blind reason and logic! E no go help you. What you don't know is it's a progressive journey......our movies are getting on Netflix, Amazon prime, it's getting noticed......which would start bringing heavy investor into the industry.

But it first had to start with quality. See it takes time, creativity and $$$ to create quality not the asaba rubbish we did in the past, that made cheap quick profits and almost wrecked the industry. The new Nollywood is on the right trajectory.
Spoken like the typical armchair entrepreneur.
It's not about emotions but numbers.
It takes years upon years for a country of 200m people to produce a movie that will make N1B across all distribution channels,
This should tell you it's not an "investment" problem but a demand problem.
Meaning the bulk of the demand for home theatre entertainment is from people that can't access modern distribution channels and are stuck with the old asaba ways, which is why the make more money.
Abi how will investments help? You want dey buy TV for everybody house to install Netflix? undecided

You'll soon learn that turnover is bigger than aesthetics.
A N1B movie that distribution and production cost surely took 20% of the revenue and that will most likely be achieved just once in 3 years is what you want to use and compare asaba industry that they use 3m-5m to generate 15-25m and will turnover this more than 30times a year for a serious producer? undecided

Congrats to her!

Netflix needs to create a sort of cheaper pay as you go plan(like watch a movie for N100 or N50), this way we can discourage piracy.

You need Serious data to watch Netflix in the first place, poor masses can't afford that.
Not to talk of devices you'd need to access the Netflix,
Smart TV,WiFi box,data,etc...
It's not the Netflix subscription but associated cost.
So you see, piracy and asaba movies lives on...The 2 industries will exist concurrently, serving different markets grin

Your best efforts in Nigeria will be ridiculed by factors beyond your control.

In about 2 years, 1USD will equal 6,000 naira. It does not matter how much effort you put in, it will amount to nothing.

Nigeria is at a dead end and unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it.
There are people making money faster than the currency depreciates, you just never know.
