RomanceRe: Where Are All the Good Nigerian/African Men? by seeker(m): 9:29pm On Dec 14, 2005
Open your eyes. No one (except Micheal Jackson) chose their race/colour. Character is a different matter.
In short stop looking for Nigerian/African men. Look for good men.

PoliticsRe: What Can Honest Nigerians Do to Stop 'Nigerian Scams'? by seeker(m): 2:21pm On Dec 14, 2005
@Seun, this is definitely a step in the right direction. We have to be openly intolerant to any kind of fraud and corruption. Fight it whever we encounter it. Open discussion on the subject. Stay honest ourselves.
CareerRe: How Much is a Good Salary in Nigeria? by seeker(m): 9:58pm On Dec 13, 2005
@Seun, this your question no get answer. Truly, truly. It depends on industry as most people have stated, and the individual as well. My cousin told me a tale of 2 nigerian families in the US. One family was quite proud of a combined income of $30,000/pa, while the other was a specialist doctor managing over $300,000/pa. In fact the first family may even have a greater sense of satisfaction with life.

Ehmm.. my advice is that you set your sights slightly higher, like paying your employees ( all 1000 of them ) above the industry average, and yourself, whats wrong with a few 100m. Except if this is a short term strategy.
Unlike you, Sir, I work but would like to do something of my own, and believe me my sights are high. Maybe I live in fantasyland rolleyes
CareerRe: Are Nigerian 'Graduates' Really Graduates? by seeker(m): 7:05pm On Dec 13, 2005
I agree with all those who argued in favour of a good backgroud, a priori. Very important.

The truth is the lecturers ( if we can still call them that these days) are demotivated, the facilities are non-existent , the curriculum is outdated, etc. Mosst of you who work, wheher you schooled in Nigeria or not, except maybe for doctors and people who work in R&grin, will find that there's a big gulf between what is taught in school and the real world. In addition, many students are naive and short sighted, thinking that all their lecturers notes, represent the body of knowledge in the courses.

The real value of a degree is the exposure, discipline, and a basic working skillset, that can very often be applied in many different areas other than one's major.

I feel the guy who went to Ife and feels scarred. The system is brutal. Almost cut my liver, even though I managed to escape with a 2:1.

Please don't mind my long-winded sentences. It's my background. wink

Una go kill person O! Now I've got a belly ache from too much laughter,

Isolating kids from society and whats "out there" , will surely prevent them from having a fighting chance in the world. Of course there should be some boundaries, and if HP falls outside the borders you've set out for your kids, so be it.

I, for instance learnt somethings my parents would certainly not have approved of, but I still maintained the strong core of values they worked so hard to impart( even if I say so myself).

The reason why people are so afraid of TV, video games, etc, is because they abdicate their dutiy of raising their kids to these media. If you watch HP with children and explain the morals to them, thats what they'll make of it.
Music/RadioRe: Nigerian Actors & Actresses Who Now Sing by seeker(m): 3:41pm On Dec 13, 2005

People rarely have only one talent - in fact, if they do, it can be regarded as a pshyco-somethingsomething disorder. It's not uncommon for people to be able to sing and act. Think theatre, opera.

Having said that, genny's voice was ordinary and her ennunciation was terrible. Her good looks and a nice beat were the redeeming features of that video. Desmond has a good voice and can sing. Most others I'd rather not comment on, are just muppets.
Thanks 4 the warm welcome, Sis!
