Are you still planting just trees instead of planting assets? Why are Exotic Fruits the New Gold?

Well, in 2026, Your Backyard Should Be Your Bank Account. You can turn your half-plot into a high-yield exotic fruit farm. Big harvests in small spaces—that’s the magic!

These exotic seedlings have great market value. Go check the price per Dragon fruit, Pomegranate, or Kiwi in your local mall. They are early-fruiting and dwarf varieties, meaning no ladder is needed, and you don’t have to wait 5 or more years to reap what you have sown.

How to attract pollinators in your garden. But first, what are pollinators and what important roles do they play in your garden?
Well, think of pollinators as the "delivery drivers" of the natural world. 😂They are animals or insects that move pollen from the male part of a flower (the anther) to the female part (the stigma).
This simple act is what "fertilizes" the plant, allowing it to produce the seeds, fruits, and nuts you see on your Apple, Pear, plum, cherry treesetc

Without these couriers, many of your plants would bloom beautifully but never actually grow anything to eat.🤷🏽‍♀️

Examples of these pollinators include: bees, hoverflies, butterflies, moths, beatles and others

How do you attract these pollinators to your garden then? You do it by planting flowers. Yes, planting flowers are not just pretty addition to your garden, it’s a strategic move for you as a gardener.

Think of these flowers as the neon light bearing "Open for Business" signs that tell these pollinators that your garden is the play wey e dey happen: excess gbedu, Toscana pro max 😂

Many plants are cross-pollinators, meaning they cannot produce fruit or seeds using their own pollen. They require an external "courier" to move pollen from the male parts of one flower to the female parts of another. Without these couriers, your garden's productivity drops significantly.

Even for plants that can self-pollinate, insect intervention often leads to larger, healthier fruit.

By planting flowers that bloom at different times, you keep pollinators in your yard all season long, ensuring they are present exactly when your fruit trees need them. This is such a smart move
between them.

Someone is asking, "ok, what kind of flowers can I plant?"
Well, while any flower is better than no flowers at all you should understand that not all flowers are created equal when it comes to being a high-quality "pollinator magnet." Some flowers are essentially the botanical equivalent of junk food—or worse, a locked door that pollinators can't open.

So, to get the most out of those fruit trees on your list, you want flowers that provide high-quality rewards and are easy to access.

If you want to ensure your plants to get the attention they need, look for flowers with these specific traits:
1. Open-Faced Flowers: Flowersthat have flat "landing pads" that make it easy for all types of insects to land and eat.
Eg roses flower, sun flower, London bells, morning glory, hibiscus

Many of the best pollinators are actually herbs.Lavender, Rosemary, and Mint produce incredibly high-quality nectar that bees will travel long distances for.

We have these flowers and herbs available. We have 3 colours of rose: cream, red and pink

How to successfully grow Pomegranate Trees in a Container

Pomegranate trees can be grown in a container and it will produce lots of fruits

Below are some tips for growing Pomegranate trees in a container.

1, Planting

Ensure you plant a pomegranate seedling that was propagated by Air layering or by cutting. I personally prefer planting Air layered Pomegranate seedlings due to the fact that the grow much faster than seedlings propagated by cutting. Do not plant a pomegranate seedling that has been propagated as a seed into a container. It will take up to 5 years before it will produce fruits and it will only produce fruits that very small in size.

Start with a container that has a minimum volume of 35 liters in volume, and ensure it has drain holes at the bottom. Planting pomegranate in a smaller container will produce a tree that will only produce few fruits and the trees growth will be stunted.

Use a soil that drains easily, do not use a soil that does not drain easily,

Pomegranate trees will not thrive when grown in a waterlogged soil. Planting pomegranates in a waterlogged soil will cause root rot disease such as Phytophthora. Root diseases are very difficult to control and they will eventually destroy the pomegranate tree.

Once you plant your young pomegranate tree into a container, ensure you place the container in an area where it will experience at least 8 hours of full sunlight. Also place the container on bricks or blocks to lift up the bottom of the container from the bare floor or ground.

2, Watering
For the first 3 months give half a liter of water twice a day preferably in the later hours of the morning. Thereafter increase the watering by giving 1 liter of water twice a day until the tree is 6 months old (Morning and afternoon).

Avoid overwatering, overwatering causes root rot diseases like Phytophthora. Phytophthora is very difficult to control once it infects the Pomegranate tree.

3, Fertilizer requirements
Regularly apply well composted organic manure once every 2 weeks to the soil. I recommend using Cow or Goat manure for potted plants. Pomegranates thrive best when their soil has organic matter with lots of nutrients.

Apply 2 handfuls every 2 weeks for the first 3 months and thereafter 3 handfuls every 2 weeks until the plant is 6 months old.
After 6 months 4 handfuls of organic manure every 2 weeks is recommended.

Apply a foliar fertilizer that has a Marco nutrient (Nitrogen Phosphorous & Potassium) ratio of 20:20:20 with additional Micronutrients (Zinc, boron, manganese, Molybdenum, Magnesium) once a month until the tree starts flowering.

Once the tree starts flowering apply a a foliar fertilizer that has a Marco nutrient (Nitrogen Phosphorous & Potassium) ratio of 6:13:46 with additional Micronutrients (Zinc, boron, manganese, Molybdenum, Magnesium) once a month.
Do not apply any chemical fertilizer to the soil.

4, Flowering & Fruit Production
Pomegranate trees produces both Male and Female flowers. Female flowers are actually Hermaphroditic (they have male organs which allows self pollination of the flowers) Once the tree starts flowering plenty of male flowers show up first to attract natural pollinators to the tree., thereafter female flowers are produced. Male flowers fall off after about few days, female flowers are the only flowers that will turn into fruits after being pollinated.

Natural Pollinators of Pomegranates are Bees, Hoover flies , and butterflies. I have included a link to a video in the comment section which explains how you can identify male flowers and female flowers. After a successful pollination, Pomegranates fruits takes between 5 to 7 months before they become ripe. The exact ripening time depends on the variety you have planted.

5, Pest and Disease Management
Pomegranate trees like all fruit trees will be infected and infested with different types of pests and diseases. However all the pest and diseases can be controlled using the proper pest and diseases management techniques.

Common pests of Pomegranates trees are Aphids, Mealybugs, fruit borers, Caterpillars, white flies and fruit flies. I will be discussing how you can control this pests in my upcoming posts and videos.

Common diseases of Pomegranate trees are Anthracnose & Phytophthora root rot, Fruit rot, Wilt, Cercospora, Bacterial blight, Alternaria fruit spots. I will be discussing how you can control this diseases in my upcoming posts and videos.

It is a common misconception that a pomegranate fruit has to be deep red to be ripe or healthy. In reality, this fruit is incredibly diverse.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions About Pomegranate Varieties:
Q1: Do all pomegranates look the same when they are ripe?
A: No. Pomegranates come in different shapes, colors and sizes. While we often look for a ruby-red exterior, some varieties remain greenish or yellowish pink even when they are perfectly ripe and ready to eat. Shocking, right?Ok...

Q2: Does the internal color of the fruit affect its nutritional value?
A: Surprisingly, no. Whether the inside is deep red, pinkish or even white, they basically offer the same food value and health benefits to the body just that their external and internal colours affect their prices depending on how appealing they are to the eyes. But then, all of them have great market price

Q3: What are some of the common color combinations found in different varieties?
A: The list is nearly endless, but common variations include:
-Red externally with deep red seeds internally.
-Greenish on the outside with a surprising white color inside
-Yellow-pink on the outside with pinkish-white seeds inside.

Q4: If I see a greenish pomegranate with white seeds, does it mean it is unripe?
A: Not necessarily. If it is the specific variety that stays green and white, it is fully ripe and should not be considered "unripe." It will provide the same nutrients as its red cousins.😂

Q5: When can we expect to see these fruits in the market?
A: Well, the fruiting season is gradually setting in now, so you will soon start seeing these different varieties available for harvest and sale.

Q5: Where can I buy pomegranate seedlings in Nigeria?
A: Pomegranate seedlings available at Tustars Farms . We have these 4 varieties

Frequently Asked Questions on Pomegranates Farming in Nigeria
1. Q:What is pomegranate and what are its benefits?
A: Pomegranate is an ancient super fruit rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, promoting heart health, digestion, and immunity.

2. Does Pomegranate thrive in Nigeria?
A: yes, there is enough evidence on ground that Pomegranates fruits in the North, South East, South West and South South. For a fruit that is native to Middle East and South Asia, why do you think it won't thrive in Nigeria?

Pomegranate thrives in warm, dry climates with well-drained soil and can grow in various soil types. So,it needs a sunny location with 6-8 hours of direct sunlight and pH 5.5-7.0.

3. Q: Are pomegranate seedlings GMO?
A: No, pomegranate seedlings are generally non-GMO, and most commercial varieties are developed through traditional breeding techniques.

4. Q: How is pomegranate propagated?
A: Pomegranate can be propagated through seeds, grafting , cuttings or air layering.

5. Q: How long does it take for pomegranate to mature?
A: If propagated by seeds, Pomegranate trees typically start fruiting 2 years after planting, depending on factors like climate, soil and variety. But if propagated through grafting, cuttings or air layered from an already fruiting pomegranate plants, it typically takes months to start fruiting.

Yes, Grafted, cuttings, air layered seedlings produce fruit faster and offer more consistent yields and quality. You can start harvesting pomegranate after 8 months from planting depending on how much you take care of it

6. Q: How many seedlings can be planted per plot and per hectare?
A: Typically, 400-600 seedlings can be planted per hectare (2-3 meters apart), depending on the variety and pruning system.

7. Q: How long does it take for pomegranates to ripe?
A: The ripening time for pomegranates depends on the variety, typically taking 5-7 months after the female flowers open.

8. Q: How can I determine if a pomegranate is ripe?
A: 5-7 months after flowering, when fruits are deep-colored, firm and maybe slightly cracked. I mean, there are two ways to check: 1. track the time from opening of pollinated female flowers or 2. inspect the fruit. It will definitely change colour when it ripe. If still not convinced, pluck it and taste it😂

9. Q: How do I identify male and female pomegranate flowers?
A: Female flowers have an ovary and produce pollen, while male flowers produce pollen but lack an ovary. Male flowers typically drop 3-4 days after opening.

10. Q: What happens to unpollinated female flowers?
A: Unpollinated female flowers will drop from the tree.

11. Q: What are some common pests and diseases affecting pomegranate?
A: Common issues include aphids, whiteflies and fungal infections.

12. Q: What is the lifespan of a pomegranate tree?
A: Pomegranate trees have a lifespan of over 30 years.

13. Q: How often should pomegranate trees be watered?
A: Young trees: 2-3 times/week; mature trees: every 10-15 days.

14. Q: How are pomegranate trees fertilized?*
A: Organic fertilizers, balanced NPK fertilizers, and micronutrients.

15. Q: Why is pruning important for pomegranate trees?
A: It help manage tree size, encourage branching and improves fruit quality.

Remember, branching helps induce early fruiting in plants(a natural law in which a tree is forced to produce an offspring early to replace it because it thinks it's gonna die when you cut some parts of it) Dem get sense too😂

16. Q: Which variety is recommended for cultivation for market?
A: The Ruby Red Foreign and Yellowish pink variety might be a good choice for cultivation for both local and international market. The colour alone is giving

17. Q: How much does one pomegranate tree produce per year?
A: An average of 45kg per year.

18. Q: What is the price of pomegranate per kg?
A: ₦11,500 at wholesale price and ₦13,500 at retail price.

19. Q: What is the potential annual revenue from 100 pomegranate stands?
A: I recommend you do a market research before venturing into commercial farming of pomegranate. How much is a fruit of pomegranate sold in your area? Well, from research,
100 pomegranate trees can give ₦51,750,000 at wholesale price or ₦60,750,000 at retail price.Outrageous huh?😂 Isn't it the most expensive fruit in Nigeria, even in other countries?

20. Q: What makes pomegranate a valuable crop?
A: It has potential to generate significant revenue and also provide health benefits, that if you can invest in it

21. Q: What is the recommended planting distance for pomegranate trees?
A: 2-2.5 meters spacing.

22. Q: Is 50 seedlings good enough to start commercially? Yes

23. Q: What is the recommended land size for 100 pomegranate trees?
A: 100 by 50 feet is enough.

24. Q: Does pomegranate have high maintenance requirements?
A: No

25. Q: Can pomegranate be planted in flower pots, buckets or containers?
A: Definitely, just like many fruit trees: yes!! Check out attached pictures . As you can see from those potted in containers. They thrive so well in containers and grow very very fast like flowers😀 And yes, pomegranate trees could serve as ornamental trees in your house

26. Q: Can I make my own manure?
A: Yes...for optimum yield, you are encouraged to manure regularly. If you planted in a bucket, change the topsoil (2inches) every month if you can, then fill up the bucket again with top soil and a handful of manure. Do this once a month because the plant has already taken up all the nutrient from the old manure you poured there. This works for every potted plant. This is a kept secret. If you manure regularly, your trees will bear fruits in surplus

If you potted at home, you can make your own compost by digging a small pit, dump all organic wastes materials generated from your house in there , allow to decompose and use as manure. Or you go and buy

English apple: still thinking that apples can't grow and fruit in Nigeria? Well, think again.

The Anna apple is a fascinating variety, especially for those living in warmer regions like Nigeria, as it is one of the few apples that can thrive in tropical and subtropical climates.

Ok, let me give you a brief overview on this "sun-loving" apple:
1. Unlike most apples that need a long, cold winter, the Anna apple has a very low chill requirement so makes it the top choice for farmers in warm climates.

2. It produces large, beautiful fruits with a greenish-yellow skin that develops a lovely red blush where the sun hits it. The more the sun hits it, the more red the skin

3. It has a crisp, white flesh with a sweet and slightly tart flavor

4. Buying our grafted Apple seedlings means you will not wait till forever to reap what you have sown as it fruits before two years of planting

5. You can use it in different ways: because it is firm and juicy, it is perfect for eating fresh, juicing, or baking into pies, sauces and Parfait

The Jatropha plant (Attraction Plant): I got interested in this plant because people would message us to request 35 leaves of it. They call it Attraction plant because they use it to do certain rituals in order to attract husband, rich sugar daddies, pull crowd to their ministries and churches, attract customers to their businesses,hmmmm...

Herbalists and ndị Dibia will come and ask of it as they believe the plant has various spiritual and medicinal uses.

Some claimed benefits include:
1. It wards off evil spirits and mystical attacks. Spiritual buttet-proof kinda. So if you plant it in your house, bye bye to enemy attacks
2. It protects against witches and evildoers
3. It provides spiritual strength and cleansing
4. It is used in treating various health issues like skin diseases, digestive problems and respiratory infections so they use it to prepare herbs for people. Some claim it can be used to naturally cure HIV, ulcer and even cancer
5. It boosts male vitality and libido

I did a little research online about the plant and equally discovered it has a lot of economic benefits and can land you into generational wealth. Yes, the Jatropha plant is used in producing biofuel hence its a highly sought after export product

Suffering from herdsmen invasion in your farm? Plant the Jetropha plant as hedges around your farm. The plant will do the job you couldn't do

Please note that Jatropha is toxic if not properly processed so eating or drinking it can lead to poisoning and cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain so consult a qualified herbal practitioner to avoid stories that touch the kidneys. Taking any herbal concoction of Jetropha can harm your liver and kidney if you take them without guide

Someone is already asking, "where can I buy jetropha leaves or jetropha seedlings?"
Ok, ok, ok...we have red jetropha and green Jetropha seedlings available for sale at
