Hi, thanks again for the form A info. Using diamond bank, I was able to make tuition payments at the rate of 153 naira to the CAD, which was much better than I had hoped for. I was wondering, how long did it take between the time the transaction was completed at your bank and the time the funds were received by your institution?

Glory to God. I was delayed yesterday based on four reasons:
Insufficient funds, travel history, personal asset, and family ties in Canada n Nigeria.

Truth be told, this CIC style of processing applications for months is the worst ever. They need to review it. Na their mate be USCIS.

So, after rejoicing with you guys and my family for 1 weeks, I received a shocker. Lol! I'm still trying to recuperate. This is a very bad feeling.
All guys expecting TRV, my candid advise, to avoid hypertension, kindly prepare for the worst.
If you have been called for medical, pls, know that that DOESN'T guarantee a TRV.
This is my story.

They didn't ask me for any document, I just told them it was for school fees. They first said the limit is $10k or so but after some rounds of complains and speaking to higher-ranking staff, they agreed to send it all. I transferred from a GTB domiciliary account.

I paid my tuition with Form A. After reading your post, I inquired from the bank if I can use the form for this purpose and was told that if it's a personal account (and/or for living expenses), Form A can not be used. Union bank to be precise.
Please do you know of banks that approve... Open question oo, if anyone has tried this, as it is a really cheap means of transferring money.

You did not say the term you're applying for or what your undergraduate degree was based on, so I'm just going to go ahead and assume you're applying for winter 2016 and that your undergraduate degree is directly related to your current pursuit (E.g Electrical/Electronics Engineering or something along those lines). These are my thoughts:

1) Graduated 2014: This puts you in a very good place in terms of study gap issues. As such the burden of defending your "purpose of visit" is much lighter.

2) Meng Program: That you're pursuing a Masters' program in a related discipline works nicely in your favour. It shows clear academic progression and works closely with point (1) to clear doubts as to your "purpose of visit".

3) Parent Sponsors: This is also very good, very positive. You do not need notarization or affidavits of sponsorship documents.

4) Tuition 14K CAD: Assuming room and board and other miscellaneous expenses amount to 15K yearly, you would be needing a total of about 30K CAD. That would be around 5 million naira approximated upwardly. If your sponsors can provide you with an account balance of 8 - 10 million naira, I think you would be solid.

5) Sponsors self-employed: You would need to provide proof of their employment, such as business registration documents, tax clearance certificates, as well as proof of other assets they may possess.

Following from the above, especially from points (1), (2) and (3), you do not need to worry yourself about further proving home ties, travel histories and employments. Focus on making sure that you're in good financial standing (8-10 million naira) and your application would be successful by God's grace. Wish you the very best.

I want to apply for my TRV and I really need guides. What kind of hometie and travel history do they require. Also how much are they expecting to cover you?

First off, congratulations. It's good you're thinking of applying early. I would offer my suggestions if you would answer the following questions:

1) What was your undergraduate degree based on?
2) When did you complete undergraduate studies?
3) What have you been doing (by way of employment/professional development) since the completion of your undergraduate studies and now?
4) What term are you applying for?
5) What are your tuition costs?
6) Do you have a sponsor? If yes, what is your relationship with your sponsor? Is your sponsor employed or a business owner?

Would one require an airport transit visa while travelling to Canada - in case there are stopovers in maybe Amsterdam/Frankfurt, depending on the airline.

Work Experience: Frankly everyone who has graduated from university and done NYSC can claim work experience. This is quite an extreme example but...even selling gala on the street is work experience, you just have to know how to package the description.

Professional Certification: I have a certification in project management. I honestly do not know if this had any influence in the admission decision. Project management doesn't teach any form of Finance or Accounts or Economics, which are all crucial for Business Administration degrees. I sha included the certification.

Successful Application: Sincerely, i'm not the "spiritual" or "spooky" type but I'd be foolish not to acknowledge the favour of God being the final influencer in my application. But then again, favour is when opportunity meets preparation. I really, really, really prepared for the application to that university. The two most important factors in any admission decision are the References and the SOPs. And since everybody is likely to ask for reference only from people who will give them positive reviews, that swings the needle of importance more towards SOP. I spent about one week writing the two essays for that application

It's pretty much demand. Carleton is a big popular school in Ontario, they get lots of applications. Centennial, in terms of college is also very popular and is in Toronto. Victoria doesn't share those same traits. Smart of you to pivot and look for something that worked. If you applied to UBC, they probably would have turned you down too.

Funny thing is I applied to Centenniel College for PGD in International Business Management and they turned me down because of my CGPA. I applied to Carleton for PGD in Sustainable Development, they turned me down too. I applied to University of Victoria for MBA, they gave me admission plus even $6,000 scholarship. When I read the letter, a teardrop or two rolled down my cheeks. It is the doing of Jehovah and it is marvelous in my sight!

In my own case, my references were pretty basic, no professor or fantastic professional reference. I believe my SOP sold me.
So I guess we can't really measure how important the are but we know for sure that both can determine the admission committee's decision

I learnt this when I was talking to a Professor who made me understand that many times they prefer to work with students recommended by Professors that they know very well.

Yes, I got the same impression from the prof who recommended me. I didn't know how important letters of recommendation were until I met him. With virtually no work experience and a pretty lame SOP, I think his letter did it for me.

While SoP is key, nothing works the magic as much as good letters of recommendation because they believe professors are very truthful in their appraisal of student's abilities.
