A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has ordered the interim forfeiture of N1billion linked to the former First Lady, Patience Jonathan following a court order secured by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The money was lodged in three transactions with Fidelity Bank Plc on May 20 and 25, 2015.

The court, presided over by Justice A. Lewis-Allagoa, issued the forfeiture order in response to a motion ex parte filed by the anti-graft commission.

At a sensitisation workshop organized by the NSC on Thursday, the stakeholders claimed the duplication of charges from various government agencies is affecting their business.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, yesterday denied reports that he has resigned his office, describing it as fake news

Justice Onnoghen In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on media, Mr. Awassam Bassey, the embattled CJN, said he would as part of his duties, swear in members of the 2019 National Assembly, Governorship & State Assembly Election Petition Tribunals on Saturday.

There were unconfirmed reports that Justice Onnoghen who is facing trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, in Abuja, over his alleged failure to properly declare his assets, had on Thursday evening, succumbed to pressure and relinquished his position as both the CJN and Chairman of the National Judicial Council, NJC.

The move would have seen the second-ranking jurist at the Supreme Court, Justice Tanko Mohammed, taking over as the acting CJN, an application the Federal Government has already made before the CCT.

However, Justice Onnoghen urged Nigerians to disregard the rumour, saying he was in his office and also presided over cases on Thursday.

The deadly Ebola virus has been found in a bat in Liberia, researchers and the health ministry in the West African country has said. Nigeria and other West African countries are home to some tens of millions of bats.

National Public Health Institute of Liberia, Director General Tolbert Nyenswah told newsmen in the capital Monrovia that scientists of Liberia’s health ministry and NPHIL detected the Zaire Ebola virus in one bat.

“To date, all other bats have tested negative. The finding was nonetheless significant, as researchers believe it suggests that bats may be a natural host for Ebola.

“Researchers believe it was likely that bats in other parts of Africa were also carrying the Ebola virus,’’ Nyenswah said.

In what could be termed the greatest nightmare in Nigeria lately, a fuel-laden tanker has exploded after a collision with a truck and a commercial bus in Edo State.

About 13 vehicles were on Friday morning reportedly engulfed in fire with many feared dead.

The incident, according to the Nation happened around 5:30 am in front of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

However, Men of the Edo State Fire Service were said to have arrived the scene to put out the fire but the tanker is still in flames as of the time of filing this report.

A Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, on Monday dissolved the 16-year-old marriage between one Shakirat Conde and her husband, Ibrahim.

Retired civil servants in Kaduna South Senatorial District have called on the state governor to pay their retirement benefits, saying the ill-treatment by the state government has thrown thousands of families into hardship.

The civil servants under the umbrella body of Compulsorily Retired Civil Servants in Southern Kaduna revealed their condition on Wednesday in a statement signed by their Secretary, Mohammed Haruna, issued in Zonkwa, Zango Kataf Local Government Area.

According to the statement, most of the pensioners were forced to resign and the government is yet to pay any of them their entitlements.

“This is the second year that over 5,000 civil servants in Southern Kaduna Senatorial zone were laid off from their jobs, apart from primary school teachers and local government staff.

“We want the public to know that the state government has not paid a Kobo to the retired civil servants.
