The Allied Congress Party of Nigeria has aligned with the All Progressive Congress after it presidential candidate Obiageli Ezekwesili dropped out of the race.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the party said Dr Ezekwesili never consulted with the party before withdrawing from the race and accused the former minister of education of trying to use their platform to negotiate for a ministerial appointment in the next government,

National Chairman and running mate to Dr Ezekwesili, Alhaji Ganiyu Galadima, National Secretary, Chief Paul Isamede, Deputy National Chairman, South, Otunba Bosun Omosule and his counterpart for the North, Alhaji Ibrahim Goronyo told the press that they felt insulted because they were not consulted.

“She only preempted the decision we would have reached today which was to withdraw her candidacy and give to somebody else”.

“Our presidential nomination ticket is N10 million and expression of interest is N500, 000 but when she came she said she did not have money, that she only had N100, 000 and because we wanted to encourage women, we gave her our platform”, said Mr Galadima.

Following the withdrawal of the candidate of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria from the presidential race, the candidate of Alliance for New Nigeria Fela Durotoye has revealed that he may give up on the presidential race to focus on forming a coalition party that will end the dominance of PDP and APC in Nigeria.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the prosecution of former Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, and ex-Director-General of National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ayo Oke.

Osinbajo disclosed this at an event held in his honour by Christian youths, under the aegis of Ikeja branch of GRILL in Lagos, weekend.

Lawal was removed from office after a Senate committee indicted him on misappropriating funds meant for internally displaced persons, IDPs, in the north-east but denied any wrongdoing. The former NIA Director-General was also sacked, following the discovery of $43 million at an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Answering questions from the audience on the former SGF, Osinbajo said Lawal and Oke were recommended for prosecution by the committee he heads. He said: “I think the first thing for us is that the report was acted upon; the former SGF was dismissed. Second, the President has directed that the SGF and former DG of NIA be prosecuted.

Senate President Bukola Saraki has revealed that the presidential candidate of the people’s democratic party Alhaji Atiku Abubakar did not travel to the US as his aide.

Saraki was replying to the statement made by the ruling party that Atiku was granted Visa because he posed as an aide to the Senate President

Speaking on AIT’s Kakaaki programme, Saraki described the statement of the ruling party as nonsensical.

He said, “These are desperate claims. When you are campaigning and you see that you have suffered a setback, just move on and don’t make a fool of yourself. To say the candidate travelled on my merit is not true.

Coffin makers in Ghana are pleading for the government to help them bolster their business by securing a permanent location for them with access to good wood.

According to them, they alleged that they are being pushed out of business by some Burkinabes who pay wood processors in Ghana higher prices for rough cut lumber.

The coffin makers say wood processors, particularly those in Kumasi, prefer to sell their wood to the Burkinabes who now enjoy preferential treatment on the domestic wood market.

About 200 coffin makers at the Kumasi Asafo Labour enclave say the situation has forced some of their people to move out to settle in other parts of the metropolis, noting patronage of coffin making is not fetching money as it used to be in times past.

Speaking with 3news.com, Chairman of the Coffin Makers Association, Kwabena Sarpong, said if the situation is not checked, woodworkers in the country will soon be thrown out of business.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it helping Dangote Group with $11 billion for its Refinery and Petrochemical plant, that is about N125 billion as at the end of 2018 as it announced the start-up of the three million tons capacity fertiliser plant in April this year.

While speaking at the end of a four-hour tour of the 650,000 barrels per day capacity refinery located in Lagos, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele said the bank had supported the refinery which is expected to come on-stream in the first quarter of 2020 with N75 billion and the fertilizer plant with N50 billion as part of the Federal Government’s efforts in diversifying the nation’s economy.

The project is being funded by about 60 per cent of Dangote’s equity and 40 per cent by both local and foreign banks and CBN chipped in N75 billion for the refinery and N50 billion for the fertilizer plants.

I am concerned as a Democrat who believes that with faithful and diligent practice of democracy, we can get over most of our political problems and move steadfastly and surefootedly on the course of stability, unity of purpose, socio-economic growth, and progress for all.

Democracy becomes a sham if elections are carried out by people who should be impartial and neutral umpires, but who show no integrity, acting with blatant partiality, duplicity and imbecility. For all democrats and those carrying out the process of elections, there must be the redline that must not be crossed in tactics and practices of democracy.

I personally have serious doubt about the present INEC’s integrity, impartiality and competence to conduct a fair, free and credible election. And if the INEC is willing, will the ruling party and government allow it? From what we saw and knew about Osun State gubernatorial election, what was conclusive was declared inconclusive despite all advice to the contrary.
