Properties / Re: Welcome To My House by SethCohen1: 11:13pm On May 27, 2010
good day house:

Just want to inquire about Lawyer's whereabouts. He seems awfully quiet these days on Nairaland properties and we dont seem to see the articles or advices he normally dishes out on a daily basis. Is he okay or is he angry with anybody here or just ignoring us? Normally he would be here giving us one tip or the other on how to prevent land frauds but its as if he just disappeared and alot of charlatants have taken over in the property forum. I log into the property forum to read his blogs and his advices but they seem scarce these days and i will like to know why. He is truely one of the nicest and most trustworthy Nigerians online today and it will be a shame if he ran away because of one odd reason or the other

please assist if you have any link or reason why he is AWOL from us!
Religion / Re: My Boyfriend Is An Atheist. I Love Him But My Family And Friends Hate Him. Help by SethCohen1: 10:43pm On Apr 12, 2010
I think your very wrong Mr Davidlan and your admonitions on Atheists is unfounded. The fact here is between 2 of them and so far so good, the poster came and said she loves him and as an atheist he has been good and kind to her. How many Christians can boast of such qualities. According to you, Atheists should be tagged as demonic or devilish people destroying her faith. How then do Christians who marry Muslims cope? How then do Jews who marry Buddists cope. Are you saying they are also evil people too? We read that he has no problem in the way they bring up their children if any and he even takes her to church and brings her back. What is so evil about that? Nobody is picking the good things she said he did for her but the little things that she hates the whole world blows it out of proportion. Would being an atheist mean that the school fees he paid for her or the surgery fees or other little things he has done for her are demonic?

Your saying he will change her, what if she changes him? Its a 2 way argument. What if they remain with their various religions and still love each other? Your using the if premises to weigh the argument on one side because he is an atheist. If you hate people that dont profess to being christians, you should say so and not attack people solely because they dont conform with one particular religion. The worst thing you said is saying the bible does not give you the power to judge but gives the power to rebuke and admonish. Another politically incorrect phrase to mean Judge right? Its statements like this that makes other religions point to christianity and say there are fantatics with low level of tolerance of the other religions.

I really hate what Sia did by bringing the issue up on Nairaland and exposing her boyfriend to such ridicule and i hate especially more the comments that treated him as an outcast and pariah not minding the little good things she said he did for her. Every good thing he did for her was ignored rather they picked holes in the little stuffs and castigating him. Why wont he be angry. I see people as human beings first before i judge them in respect of their race, color, tribe , sexuality and religion. You lot group people like goats first before seeing the true human being.
Its wrong and it shouldnt be condoned

@ Poster.

I will be blunt and straight to the point.

1. If truly you are a Christian, I believe you know that marrying this guy is a whole lot of risk. If you have the spirit of GOD in you as you ought to, then you won't be confused about him at all. Remember the bible says there is a way that seems right to a man but the end thereof is death. This guy may seem nice now, dropping you in church, doesn't get angry , etc. Don't be under any illusion that all these would continue when you are married. He only gets angry at the mention of church now but I can bet my life that mid-way in your marriage (if you marry him), he will stop you from going to church!

2. The devil knows the Bible. He comes across these days not as the monster depicted in most pictorials of him but as a gentle, calm, unassuming and caring personality. I want to believe that YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW THIS GUY!

3. You'll be 30 soon and i guess that is some kind of pressure on you. But I will advise that you tarry a little, listen to your pastors and parents and don't get carried away by one nice guy. I tell you, it doesn't last!

4. Pray fervently for this guy, get a knowledgeable pastor to engage him and if he doesn't change in 3months, LET HIM GO. You will thank me for this invaluable advise later.

5. Finally, no matter what anyone says here, the ball is in your court. Please be wise in the way you play it.

You called made allusions to him as a devil that knows the scriptures. Have you met him before you rained such accusations on him?

For dating an athiest she is playing with hell fire? Who are we to judge? Are we God?

Honestly if it was me that read these things i wont feel comfortable or happy. The criticisms of the guy is unbelievable. What if he killed or cheated or did something ludicrious to warrant the scoldings and castigations, i wonder what people will say.

To the guy, take a chill pill, take the week off this site that is a constant downer on people's happiness. after wards think of the good times you had with sia. It wasnt her fault. She did nothing but praise you but the uncouth fools here know how to fan the embers of hate so much and make everything a war when there is none. I appreciate what lawyer is doing and as Mamaduke rightly said, these people are just trying to divert attention from the real issues on the ground.

Lawyer please dont respond to the Rubbish these people are saying about you. They are just attention seekers. When they get tired, they will leave the thread and serious minded people who follow your very educative blogs will still rally around you to give you our support.

Your a blessing to Nairaland Properties and Dont let anyone make you feel dejected not to continue doing your good work. They have nothing intelligent to offer except to prowl around from forum to forum to case mayhem and chaos so as to distract you. As you can see, you have a large amount of following from people who will defend and fight for you! cheesy

Keep up the good work and dont relent in your efforts. The sky isnt the limit for you!

Fantastic post lawyer wink

If other Nigerians were like you, we would have become a well informed generation. Your a gift to nairaland wink

I have been thinking of registering a company for a while now and different lawyers have been telling me different things that got me totally confused about the whole process and after reading this, i feel extremely enlightened and i can now proceed with it. I was extremely worried about the problems i will face using my home address as an office address so that i dont incur any penalties but i am relieved now

I will send you a mail to tell me the price as you stated earlier.  Some lawyers have been telling me that it costs N60,000 for just filing fees and above minus legal fees   sad to register a company which i am extremely skeptical about and from your honest well executed posts, i hope i will be given the right prices and if it is within within my budget i can proceed immediately.

Once Again well done! smiley

I am sorry i wont apologize to bronx dog! There was no reason for him to insult the other poster and saying it was a stupid post! At least everyone had their criticism of the post good or bad but why should he call him stupid and made no comments afterwards to either support the post or denounce it? I had to pop in to make fun of him too. I have seen his other posts and he takes delight in abusing people even though he is wrong in most of his opinions.

Car Talk / Re: New Helmet Rule In Lagos by SethCohen1: 3:13am On Jan 05, 2009
@tosindada

So your saying in a nutshell that wearing the helmet that can be shared amongst all nigerians, good bad and ugly, dirty and smelly would prevent okada accidents and would not spread diseases abi?

If thats your argument, then you win 100%

But if your in Lagos and you have a health disease due to this beautiful law from sharing helmets, then you shouldnt complain to anyone at all!

Besides i hope you have bought your helmet to carry everywhere sha! If not, you would be breaking your own rules!

P:S: You should learn to tone down your use of words to argue. Its not personal and all you need is to voice your opinion and split not go about callingg people whether they are literate or not!

bronx_dog:

^^^^^

What sort of stupid post you have posted?

@bronx dog

Your name says it all! Your a dog from the bronx! If you had any criticism of his post, you were free to slam it not insult him personally

Before this new rule, Okada business has been in existence for almost 15 years or so in Nigeria and the number of head injuries are not as alarming as they propaganda team of the FRSC is trying to propagate. Most Bike accidents affect the legs, shin and arms of okada riders. I am suprised your not advocating that the complete Bike regalia should be introduced such as the shin guards, elbow guards and other ancillary things too? There is nothing like a lesser evil. What is evil is evil pure and simple.

Protecting the head to expose man kind to devasting diseases shouldnt even be an option in any society no matter what. I saw in your post that if i am not ready to enter a bike, then i should take a cab. Well i have no problem with that only that since air borne diseases spread without any form of discrimination, then it doesnt matter what mode of transportation i use. A family member of yours who is extremely neat might be unfortunate to come in contact with someone who has encountered one of these diseases and that person comes in contact with you despite the fact that you don't even use an okada. Won't the effect be as devastating as the original carrier?

The helmet issues is beyond just wearing helmets. Everybody knows that safety is paramount in every society but sharing a commodity that acts as a carrier of diseases is something the society should fight against!

Have you even seen the silly helmets that these okada people are buying recently just to comply? They are using construction helmets and pots to cover their heads. Some are just using sheer plastic bowls and tying a piece of rope as a protector under their Chins. Now tell me, if a person falls off a bike with a plastic tied to his head, what the health implication is? Wont the broken plastic add more complications to the already devasting injury situation?

Look at all the crash helmets in town, which one adequately resembles a real crash helmet? Are mothers and babies supposed have their own crash helmets separately too or the okada rider is to provide it for them?

My argument with the FRSC, is that they have not thought this one out well to see how effective they will carry out this law that will benefit everybody. They neither asked for the opinions of stake holders nor the opinions of passengers putting into consideration the health epidermic.

At least when they introduced the seat belt, who complained about it? Wasnt it for our safety? People always underestimate the effect of a health epidermic and for a mega city like lagos, it will be too catastrophic to handle.
Religion / Re: Make 2009 The Year Of Atheist Activism by SethCohen1: 1:40am On Jan 05, 2009
Personally i think this fall out between Religious apologists and Atheists can be traced to different aspects of interpretation of the holy books.

Actually i am not conversant with Islam that much so i wouldnt really go gung-ho on the Quoran but i am well conversant with Christianity and the bible and i will use this as a case study because i grew up with it till i abandoned it.

There are so many thing that both religious apologists and Atheists will argue on and still not resolve anything. Firstly you argue the existence of the creation story and how man and his surroundings came about and so many theories would crop up trying to make fun and defeat the Adam story leading to the Noah creation story.

After that torrid argument, you shift base to the Mosaic Era and argue extensively over the validity of the Mosaic laws and the kind of lifestyle they lived then. All sorts of horror stories and counter accusations will fly to either defend or dismember those passages. When we are both done, the next point of call is the lifestyle and prophecies of the other prophets and the mixed laws both good, bad and ugly and questioning the authencity of these passages and lifestyle.

Once we have had our fill, we jump immediately to the new testament and question the jesus birth story and his pre adult years, surroundings and works. immediately we argue extensively over his prophecies, miracles and works before we fast forward to the cruxification story and ressurection stories.

As if thats not enough, we argue extensively over the post resurrection gospels and their authencities and laws before we end up with the revelations argument.

Now we move straight to the concept of Heaven and Hell, good Versus evil, god versus satan, real versus non existent, proof, evidence and miracles.

When that is over, we shift to the various Churches and denominations, its miracles, fake or good, the denominations that are either idolatary in practice or money guzzling in practice. From there we attack the pastors, ministers or priests and argue which one is god anointed or not and who is right or wrong and which church is better than the other one etc, before you know, we start attacking the various labels whether catholic, protestant, cele, redeem, christ embassy etc and aligning with one.

It later moves to the interpretation of the biblical verses by different pastors, radical or liberal church members and followers that contradict each other and when you are exhausted from these arguments, We begin back at one again.

"How did Adam come?" undecided

Its a vicious never ending circle that would neither produce a winner or loser. The Christians have an aligned argument to support their views till they get to the segregation part of dividing themselves amongst denominations before they begin to mouth off aginst themselves, while the Atheists just shoot darts at all angles without actually aiming for one target and generally looking for answers where there is none!

To me, the truth is that we are all Atheists searching for answers in different forms and manner. There is no universally acceptable defination of what god is or if he exists that would please everybody because no matter how christians derive their inspiration from the bible, they are still slaves to the various interpretations emanating from their various churches, pastors or spiritual teachers. It is these interpretations over the years by these people that has led to more criticisms, anger and dislike of Christianity because they all vary, contradict and lead to more questions than answers.

I dont think any Atheist who was once a Christian is really happy losing what he grew up with. It just that these interpretations from various scholars and preachers tend to fu**ck the mind up the more than solve anything once you open your mind to browse through the bible objectively.

I dont advocate a violent verbal abuse to solve this quagmire because no matter what happens, we are all learning. We might not admit it but Athiests should accept that the bible isnt as bad as we make it and indeed it does have some parts that teach morals which is very good for every society and Christians should accept that there are also parts of the bible that dont conform with rationality and civility compared to today's world and ought to be expunged.

Once there is this paragrim shift of stuborness from both sides, i think we can come to a mutually understandable agreement!

But i know thats never going to happen!!! It is a War for the conversion of souls to the different camps and i really dont see any ending to this spat sad

This is a very bad remix of the movie Indecent Proposal featuring Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson and Robert Redford!

Anyway FYI, Robert Redford bleeped Demi Moore and gave her the $1million and although she later felt bad, and made up with Woody, the bottom line is that she was bleeped for $1million. So no matter what, Once a bigger boy offers you money to sleep with your girl or marry her, dont even waste time trying to play one sympathetic love struck dweeb. Just collect the money and zap. @post

Because they are hypocrites and follow follow and need to be seen that they were at the night virgil on the 31st dec, lol

What makes me laugh the most is that every year, these same people rush to these churches and wait for the prayers for an upward review in their financial success and the pastor brings out themes of "THE YEAR OF 7 FOLDS" or "THE YEAR OF FULFILLED MIRACLES" and i wonder what happened to the year before and the year before that that was promised as the "THE YEAR OF 7 FOLDS" or "THE YEAR OF FULFILLED MIRACLES"?

Ignorance they say is Bliss and religious apologists are full of it especially on the 31st of every year ending, lol
Religion / Re: Should I Pretend? by SethCohen1: 11:10pm On Jan 01, 2009
Who are you pretending for? For your self or for them?

They have their lives to live and you have yours. This is not a popularity contest. If you move to saudi arabia, there will be more less stress to be inclined to be a christian. If you move to china, there wont be this serious need to have jesus, rather buddah would be knocking on your door. But the bottom line is whether you have lived your own life happily or you lived their own lives to displease yourself because they would never change their beliefs to please you, so why please them?

When they die, you aint going with them to whatever destination they are headed to, so why bother? If you want to follow jesus, do it because you believe he exists and you want to follow his teachings, if you do not believe in it and you see the whole biblical stories as hog wash, you go on your own jejely and ignore their bloviates.

A pretender is worse than a coward to me!
Religion / Re: Make 2009 The Year Of Atheist Activism by SethCohen1: 10:56pm On Jan 01, 2009
lol@post

Dude, i am an atheist and an atheist that thinks more than he barks. Truthfully, we all know that Atheists are in the extreme minority and it leads to discrimination, xenophobic attitudes, racism, pure hatred from some religious fanatics. But i dont think engaging in a confrontational war with religious people would solve anything. Instead it will promote more hate and discrimination.

I also know that those that are strictly into religion would not buldge for a second to retrace their steps and renounce their beliefs, neither would atheists be ready to shift ground for them. It is both a win win situation for us and them. Rather, we should try and appeal to neutrals who are undecided about a particular religion or belief to add their own constructive debates to choose what ever lifestyle and beliefs they are interested in.

Its not by force to be a christian, muslim or atheist and engaging in an unholy verbal war to discredit their religions won't yield any good.

Yes we talk about biblical contradictions, historical fallacies in the bible, violent and uncivilized parts of the bible and quoran but you should know that these religious apologists have a million and one defences from the sublime to the mundane and if that doesnt work, an all time favourite is to pour vitriol on us. This is an endless cycle that would achieve nothing.

So rather, i believe this should be a year when atheists actually talk about the good things of being an atheist and why atheists can just be as morally upright as religious apologists and what atheists can do to make the world a better and safer place instead of engaging in endless repitious debates that provides more scorn, sarcastic and discriminatory attitudes.

Funny enough, i was a someone who wasnt really sure about my religious beliefs and had been searching for clues to know what really is the truth. Nairaland helped me out because i read your posts for almost a year behind the scenes, trying to analyse which posts were true and which ones were false or mere propaganda to win converts.

So step up your campaigns to win more neutrals like me that are behind the scenes or closet atheists, but try and avoid spats with religious apologists. It breeds more contempt than love. 2008 should have given you enough experience and pointers to whom you should avoid and who you should bring closer!
