The Federal Government has paid the eight months allowances it owed the over 322 Nigerian students on the Bilateral Educational Agreement scholarship in Russia. The PUNCH had exclusively reported on Tuesday that the failure by the Federal Government to pay the allowances of the students had forced them into begging and resorting to illegal jobs, which put them at risk of deportation in Russia. Following the report, our correspondent gathered on Thursday that the students had since started getting credit alerts on their respective bank accounts. One of the affected students, Moyosore Ojuri, who is in her second year studying Metallurgical Engineering at the Volgograd State Technical University, Russia, told our correspondent on the telephone that the sum of $4,450 had been paid into her bank account. The money, she explained, included $4,000 meant for her stipends from January to August; $200 for annual medicals and health insurance, and $250 covering her annual protective clothing. Ojuri said she hoped that the Federal Government would begin paying them their allowances as at when due and save them from undue hardships. “Before now, the Federal Government owed us from January to August. But now they have paid us everything. I can pay my accumulated debts and I am sure that I won’t be sent packing from the hostel over unpaid accommodation fees,” she said. One of the student leaders, Akinola Akindamola, a post- graduate student of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Volgograd State Technical University, Russia, stated that he and other student leaders were going round to ensure that all of them, especially the new students, had received their allowances. Akindamola, who is the President of the Senate Committee of Association of Nigerian Scholarship Students in Russia, said, “The payment of the money is in process and I am confident that by the end of today, we would all have been paid. The least problem we want now is to be financially handicapped. We appreciate the Federal Government for their prompt response.” When contacted, the Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, Mr. Olu Lipede, confirmed that the Federal Government had paid the students all their entitlements. I mean for your ppa am asking coz of what you said abt your lgi being in the kitchen coz my own lgi was also in the kitchen then in camp.rep 14'Alongest time bro....happy to hear from u bro, my ppa is fine, i am serving at Igbariam, Anambra East l.g.a. months after our camp orientation, i heard and confirmed that our platoon commander was late...he's one of those that made d camp interesting. how is ur ppa? and hope u enjoy d place.... |

Batch A 2014. Chill, Anambra is a good and peaceful state. All you just need is to love the people there dont have negative intention so as to let you find joy all through your service year. Anambra has 21 local govt just pray that your portion should not be the 2 worst Local govt. Though no record of bad incidence, Ayamelone local govt and Indemili local govt. People always rumour out that people might fall-drown in Ayamelone due to the riverine expanse of land it got-you'll need to ferry on boat from your ppa to your lodge/market/church etc. Forget it. Its a blatant lie. As for Indemili local govt, people said it is a place where that forbidden snakes live. The snake is said to be sacred snake one must not kill- else you'll do burial ceremony of it the way they do for human being. Though there is snake but not common, infact it is harmless snake as per my research. Taking a look a Okija in Ihiala Local Govt. Have been to the place, I must confess the place is cool and friendly but dont go out at night because is very dangerous because of the normal activities of the area where most herbalist doctor resides- (many shrine). Okija I prefer the place anyway.oro po ni toto gr8 mind, longest time bro. good to see u. nice one...no mind them , my ppa borders anyamelum l.g.a. and i can tell u vividly dat the place is nice to serve, though rural. the only place where u have to cross water to sign pv is igiebor in anambra west, enugu otu in anambra east ( they no longer post corpers there due to violence btw kogi and anambra), and few communities in anyamelum lga. I am serving at igbariam, anambra east lga and i have never blame myself, though no light in these communities but generator has been provided to d lodges. rural make sense pass awka and co.... |

Otondos, wishing you safe journey to your various destinations. These information will be useful for you. Camp arrival and check in : I would advise u to arrive to camp early, so as to get a better accomodation, also to avoid long and stressful queueing during registration after a tedious journey and to get a fitted or a fairly fitted kits (many will get extra large). on arrival, u will be searched by some friendly officers, then you proceed for accomodation registration, after getting your hostel, locate a suitable territory for your bed location, keep your luggages on it ( remove cash, atm, phones and other valuable items). then speedily go and get your bed at the store; after collecting your bed, take it to ur hostel and proceed for call up letter clarification and other registration in phases. Camp Officials: These include the state coord, rep of d DG, camp coord, PRO, head of lectures and other staff of NYSC. my advice: dont insult any camp officials no matter how small or menial they look, they might turn to be your lga inspector or zonal inspector after camp; for example, my own lga inspector was in the kitchen serving food during camp. Groups in camp: There are various groups i would advice you to join. 1. OBS- This is the camp's radio station with an off range broadband (lol). orientation braoadcasting service oversees the passage of information/announcement, entertainment, public address system, sport commentary during matches, event organizer, news broadcasting and public relations.although its for everyone, but to avoid eviction i advise that if you are an entertainer, communicator, engineer ( majorly electrical), musician, comedian, studio technicals, commentators, you can join this group. 2. Camp Band: these are those that engage in military parade entertainment, devotional praises with drums, trumpet, saxophone, biggle. they also engage in blowing the biggle ( its like trumpet) for light out and conveyance to d parade ground. ( everybody knows the biggle man and trust me, na nysc pikin be d biggle man). if you can sing, energetic enough to stand for a long while, could play instruments ( wind and percussion instrument), you can join this group. there is a great reward for joining. 3. Camp court: if you are a legal personnel, this is d group you must join. they oversee the legal activities of the camp. they issue punitive measures to undisciplined corp member based on the nysc bye laws ( abeg make una no face camp court oo, even jail dey camp ooo). lawyers, dont let corp members know u are in camp court ooo... (joking) 4. Medical experts and red cross: This consist of medicine and surgery graduates, nursing and science laboratory technologist. you must always be in the camp clinic for emergencies and treatment of ailing corp member. your own parade ground is the clinic. anyone can join the red cross. 5.Other groups include social committee, sport committee, SAED committee. joining some of these committees might not yield a good result. i am a victim of sport committee, even though it was fun and an added knowledge. Platoon Activities: platoon means a 'small group of soldiers'. The last number on your state code automatically fixes you in a platoon. e.g state code 1214 will be in platoon 4, code 0320 will be in platoon 10, code 2381 will be in platoon 1. A platoon officer ( nysc official), platoon commandant and assistant (2 army), a man o' war, platoon leader and assistant ( 2 corp members) a. Platoon leader-He/she will carry out the leadership responsibility in the platoon as designated by superior platoo officers listed above. Guy! please rush in for this position; though stressful a bit, but its an hot cake if you are effective. most especially when u win trophies for your platoon. LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE MANY PLATOON LEADERS EMANATES ON THIS PLATFORM FROM ALL ACCROSS THE CAMPS IN NIGERIA. b. Platoons challenge- Several competitions will hold at the camp, which include, sport (football, volleyball), drama, macho man,dance (mostly cultural dance of your posting state), beauty paegent, comedy, talks, parade and some other social activities. Your engagement in these activities and yielding remarkable result for your platoon might lead to a favourable PPA posting. Its really fun guys. Nairalanders dont carry last oooo Camp Supplies: You will be provided with a bed space ( first come first serve) and a mat-looking bed (na joke ooo!), a meal ticket ( trust some of the 'Jagunlabis' who ate more than 2 plates with one card). You will be given a complete kits in which many of u might not get a fitted size. ( try and exchange with others who needs yours and you need theirs OR beg the officer in charge). Also, there is a consistent and uninterrupted water and electricity supply (no charging points in d hostels ). Camp Market: popularly called 'maamy' . many market sellers are waiting for you to patronize them,ranging from food sellers ( state local meal, indomie, fried foods like akara), tailors, phone charging spots, consumables, plates, socks and underwears, dry cleaners, viewing centers e.t.c. things are very expensive in camp. Also try and visit the federal market (nccf) for cheaper things. Religious activities: you are at immunity to practise your religion as far as it does not interrupt with camp rules. My Advise: many lives might be ruined in camp and many lives will be equipped, its an avenue for you to draw closer to God. Activities will almost take you away from your spiritual devotions but Nigeria christian corpers fellowship and muslim corpers fellowship are there for you. both fellowships will withdraw cash for you ( u might run out of cash), charge your phones and couselling. all for free! NCCF will impact your life through their daily worship and word filled service and engages in spiritual counselling and welfarism. MCAN makes sure u engage in your 5 times daily prayers uninterruptedly. Expect more info later. 21 days in a confined territory away from the real world is once in a life time. two things are involved, its either you are equipped or destroyed. Otondos! welcome to Anambra state ' The light of the nation'. I shall be giving you important details for a conducive stay at anambra. Transportation: From south west, edo , delta; board a bus going to enugu ( the reason for this is to avoid undue stresses of moving along the onitsha busy street with your excessive luggages, also, it will aid ease and speed of getting to d camp since umunya is along onitsha-awka-enugu road), alight at umunya corpers camp. then board a bike to d camp. For those who deem it fit to pass through onitsha, or those coming from other parts of d country, after the bus has dropped u at onitsha, get a bike that will take u to where u can get bus to Awka (upper iweka). (pls be security conscious, since u are new to anambra, even though onitsha people are so friendly and hospitable, some elements still exist there). board awka bus and alight at umunya camp(150 naira); then board a bike to d camp (50 naira or so). ABOUT UMUNYA CAMP: The camp is located at Oyi local govt, it has a serene and green environment, with lawn looking parade ground. it consist of many well built and painted hostels like the independence ( up indepence hostel), oyi, national, white, equity etc. with bad toilets and bathrooms ( so expect, shot puts and longthrow, although not advisable but i do am well well). dellaziz: just a question... how come d cut off marks 4 universities are higher than polys... and most movers and shakers of industries attend. unis as opposed to polys...... most poly studs and grads that I know can't even hold talks with secondary school students... most are P.A.T.H.E.T.I.CYou are limited in your research, oga, (movers and shakers of industry) what industry? petroleum industry,construction industry, where the shakers are expatriates....answer me oga.... the only industry u can claim d nigerian graduates are shaking is d banking industry and the HND holders are ussually at d fore front of operations in most of the commercial banks. just walk into any of. these bank branches GTB, First bank, access bank, skye e.tc., those faces you will meet at d customer care unit and also accross the transaction desk; apart from d bsh, are all HND holders....do they speak good english? was there error when they carried out ur transaction? if u have issues with ur account, are they not the ones u will meet for solution? so what point are u trying to raise. mind u, bisi onasanya, the MD of the oldest nigerian bank, first bank is an alumni of LAGOS STATE POLYTECHNIC, my alma matter. oga my advice, when u are successful, nobody will care about ur qualification. have u cared to find out the qualification of dangote, otedola, adenuga....oga, find ur purpose, stick to it and stop running enmity in ur veins... |

It is pitiful that this matter over superiority of certificate is still being discussed...Poly vs Uni...some of you have tried to score points, by constructively criticising the polytechnic. Kudos to u,..you said d polytechnic does not have a professor (right), d polytechnic does not teach well (Yes), d polytechnic admission is always an option after university admission has failed (many of us were victim); some even quoted d polytechnic as being an academic institution that accept 'cheap' JAMB scores (i was admitted into d polytechnic with 163) , you said polytechnic graduates speaks a pidgin-like english or gramatical blundered english (yes, our GNS lectures are less, compare to our reputable queenish english speaking university graduate)....some even called us technical illiterates (i concur to this, though my technicality has lured me to greatness....this same technicality made me to train 2 '400 level' student of civil engineering from OAU and LAUTECH b4 my youth service)......Can i ask our university graduate these questions ; Did Dangote learn biz @ d university? Who knows Otedola qualification? Does bill gate need to be taught by a professor b4 he started MICROSOFT? what about steve jobs? Oga Oluwaseun Osewa dropped out (not for academic purpose) of the ever noisy 'great Ife' & open nairaland, even your professors and vc's logged in often on his platform. oga seun, u ve not told them abi? uhn, there is God ooo, was madam patience not a graduate of UNIPORT? what about oga @ d top?na wa o... toluxa1: Bro, why did you say it's official. Which dept are you? I spoke to my departmental examiner yesterday and he said we should just keep praying that they have sent results for approval about 3 days ago, just waiting for final verdict. That the list will be sent immediately they have green light, he sounded positive. Keep the Hope alive. I finished 2011 and I'v missed 7 Batches. 7 is the number of completeness, so I know it's over. Within this period, what God has done for me, very few of my mates that finished serving since last year never smell am. That is God for you!Your response was so passionate. Its really time 4 God to perfect it 4 u. |

obinoral: Reporting live from ekiti state university: mobilization form is out and it goes along with 500# with 2 passport. Closing date is 29th of november which is friday,same as LAGOS STATE POLYTECHNIC....The mobilization form is out, same price with 2 passport. |

A nigerian who was alleged to be an illegal immigrant based in London has been sent back home after police interrupted his sham wedding in a registry office in harrow, North London. The bride and groom were led away in handcuffs after being interviewed by immigration officials in front of surprised guests.
