I found myself discussing 9ja's cumbersome visa policy with a Nigerian embassy staff one day.

He was adamant that millions of people apply for 9ja visa yearly, that what you (yours truly) know, that he's the one who knows as an embassy staff.

I told him the visitors figures/statistics are out there and that compared to even Kenya, 9ja is nowhere. Despite our size, population, endowment, diversity, culture, etc. The olodo didn't get it. He said Europeans charge Nigerians a lot for their visas and Nigeria is doing great by reciprocating. Empty pride.

I reminded him that the cost of a Nigeria multiple visa for some Europeans, is enough to buy a ticket to Morocco and pay for hotel for the weekend. No visa. Yet Moroccans need visas to much of Europe.

That is before you even factor the 9ja insecurity factor in.

I insisted Nigeria should not always react emotionally to Western policies, but in a c to all.alculated way to take money from Europeans via tourism.

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have long introduced a common visa arrangement for tourists.

I don't need a visa to Morocco, Tunisia or even Uganda. But if had to present 9ja document, I would need visas to all. They have cleverly exempted Western tourists bringing hard currencies.
