Phones / Re: Where to buy brand new handphone @ the cheap price? by seyiyussuf(m): 1:29pm On May 29, 2008
Hi Monuoha,

I don't quite agree that china phones are fake. Rather they are cloned (look-alike) brands with lower grade of components. And that is why they are triving in the Nigerian market. Most of the phones in Nigeria are of China origin. Only few opportuned Nigerians can pay for phones of European origin. As for Dubai, there are also fake phones there. But you will be told before purchase. So as for what is on ground now China is your best choice except you have exclusive customers that will be ready to pay more for quality. Check out ebay.

BACKGOUND TO MOBILE COMMUNICATION IN NIGERIA
For any business to thrive, I sincerely believe that an in-depth knowledge of that business is very important. Knowing the genesis, exodus and revelation of the business will be a key to the success of the business.

Therefore, it is important that this topic, "Background to Mobile Communication in Nigeria" be treated. This topic will definately launch us into the main discuss.

Before the early nineties, in Nigeria, the only type of telephone service available was the cable-analogue land line, which had a ratio of one line to about two hundred thousand people. And with a population of about 80,000,000 people, your guess, about how hectic it would have been, then, is as good as mine.

By the early 1990s, the then military government decided to introduce a mobile system of communication, which allowed subscribers to make voice calls while on the move. But the type of mobile telephony introduced then was far from the ideal.

At that time, the Europeans where already experimenting with the Digital Mobile system. This system was, later, to give way to the Global System for Mobile telephone (GSM). But, here in Nigeria, the analogue system, otherwise known as 1st Generation of Mobile telephone, was been deployed by the state owned telecommunication outfit, NITEL. Aside from its inefficiency, it was very expensive to acquire with a long waiting time of aquisition of, at times, up to 3 months.

To be continued next week.

In addition to sect's advice, u can do a survey urself in computer village or Gsm village. Gsm village is located along agege-oshodi expressway. I believe u will get a better deal that way.
Technology Market / Re: Multilink Internet Phone by seyiyussuf(m): 1:00pm On May 22, 2008
Hi Crown007, why not visit any of the network operators. If u want an internet phone powered on CDMA then visit any of the PTOs like starcomms etc. Or visit the GSM operators for GPRS.

Henry,

u might just probably want to be a phone whiz kid. But if it gos beyond that, then I feel that u might probably end up bringing this forum to disrepute. We can do straight business here other than hacking into other people's mobile line. What do u think? Remember what comes around, goes around. U hack others, they hack you too angry

I believe most of the phone in Nigeria are coming from the far east countries like china and even Singapore. So I will advice you look towards China. Even Dubai have lost it to china. I use to import phones from Dubai myself before now. But the price from Dubai are not competitive in the Nigerian market. angry

[size=8pt]INTRODUCTION

I am MUSA OLUWASEYI YUSSUF. I have been in the sales and marketing of mobile phones and services before the advent of Global Systems for Mobile telephony (GSM) in Nigeria. This will probably explains the choice of my topic.

Expectedly, I will be sharing my thoughts and ideas on this all important issue with interested readers. And also expect feedbacks from my readers. The whole idea is to exploit the possibilities available in the GSM industry in Nigeria.

I am not of the school of thought that the GSM industry is going obsolete in Nigeria. Rather, it has just started evolving. It has come with it's own ups and down. making some people "powerfully rich" and others from grace to grass.

Will it not be interesting to have discuss on this business phenomenum that has made some investors smile to the bank and, others losing their investment? Stay hooked. It will be revealing!
