Health › Federal Medical Centre Ebute Meta by Shadymurphy(op): 7:39am On Jun 15, 2019 |
I was on a visit to the Federal Medical Centre Ebute Meta last week. While not saying it is the best of facilities, I was impressed by the level of facilities they have there. For a government health institution, I was impressed by the level and nature of service on offer. Like most government owned medical institutions, the place is well staffed with good doctors that place a very high premium on human lives. The doctors are prompt at attending to patients and full of words of encouragements. The nurses are very polite unlike what obtains in the past or in some other similar health facilities. The place has a well stocked pharmacy where drugs are available at unbelievable prices. There are telephone numbers for complaints in case you have any. There is even free WIFI - though i don't know who needs it. The electricity is something else. Power gets restored in less than 2 minutes after power failure from their back up generators. All the wards are neat to a fault. The place gets swept and mopped every hour and whenever there is any need for it. The environment and the ambience is unbelievable for a hospital. No offensive or sickening odour from anywhere. There are several oxygen points for needy patients. The oxygen points even works when there is no electricity. The CMD of the place is always moving around the facility to ensure that things go smoothly.I also noticed that the fee is quite considerate for the great service that is rendered. My child paid N1500 per day of admission. This includes the use of oxygen for the whole day for some days and 3 nice children friendly meals. In fact, children with special dietary needs are taken into consideration. There is a dietician to attend to such cases. I don't know who is responsible for the spectacular service in that place. But, I think it is great.

Amaechi, Fashola, Shittu, Audu Ogbe, Adamu, Adewole, Adeosun, Fayemi, Kachiku, all performed remarkably better than any of their counterpart under any pdp administration. But sometimes hate, sadness and needless sentiments prevents us from seeing what is right before us. God bless Nigeria. |

Business › Re: Economist backs CBN ban on textiles; says FOREX on imports enough fund deficit by Shadymurphy: 6:12am On Mar 12, 2019 |
grandstar: This so called economist must have been solely educated I'm Nigeria because most of them just have some head knowledge. They are the equivalent of the computer science graduates from the nation's public universities with little knowledge about computing. Just theory and book work
How can an economist say that the country is spending half of the budget deficit on imported textiles? What correlation does that have? The government isn't the one spending the money on importing the textiles. Textile importers simply source the forex from the CBN and they pay for it! They didn't dash them this money or lent it to them.
If I sell you $500,000 at 360 to a $1 and you pay me 180m and you use the $500,000 to import textiles and the ship carrying it capsizes and you lose all stock, that one no concern me. I don collect my 180m
This ban from the CBN will simply put massive pressure on the black market and there'll be a massive gap between it and the investor window down for forex.
A government trying to fight corruption should do it's utmost for all business to be done above ground and not below it where corruption is bound to thrive.
Also, there's nothing wrong in importing textiles. How will the textile factories be competitive when there's inadequate power and high lending rates. This is doomed to fail from the word go. The Bank of Industry lent them 200b in the past which I'm sure a good chunk we t down the drain
It's time government focused on an export or perish mentality because that's the proper way to industrialise and not through import substitution which forces you to pour resources on areas lack comparative advantage.
What kind of third world country is this that does not have a textile sector that is a massive exporter of textiles and garments? If the nation has failed in that, it shows there are deep-rooted problems why the textile industry is dormant here. I like your export or perish model. We can't export when there is clear incentive to import same items. I think it is high time the textile industry rise to the occasion and deliver us from this import madness of nameless brands of shirts and other wears that currently litter our markets. They should be on the offensive since loans are available at concessionary single digit rates for those aspiring to scale their productions. I think the CBN also needs to do more awareness on the available incentives to the tailoring and garment industry in order to intimate them of the available incentives. God bless Nigeria. |

gentlegenius: Ghana doesn't use naira... They use cedis, which is far more valuable than naira. 800cedis is worth more than or approximately equal to 2250naira. Ghana devalued its currency to arrive at that level. But when it is critically looked at, the gains have been eroded by the loss in value after devaluation. Check history and all indices well before commenting on economic issues. |

Esseite: If only Nigeria progressed on GEJ's antecedents, by now we may have been looking at a reasonable GDP figure and not 0.5% from a whole construction industry which majorly accounts for our growth on infrastructure.
- Just maybe we would have been getting ready to initiate online voting for 2023.. now it seems like we have retrogressed to 2007. If you had read well, you would have seen that the GDP grew by 2.38% and that the manufacturing sector contributed 0.5%. And by the way, we have several otgr sectors such as services, agriculture and oil all contributing their own quota. I hope you also read over 30% improvement over 2017 figures. |

So the electorate will lose when your preferred candidates lose? What a shallow way to think. The people who want Buhari to complete their railways, roads, give them fertilizer for their farms aren't that foolish my friend. mcdokwe: The Election tomorrow is a battle on many fronts.
Among political gladiators Among regional consciousness Among political forecasters Among keyboard warriors
If Buhari wins, a lot of people along these lines would have won and lost, and the Nigerian people being on the losers list, but if any other candidate wins (Atiku stands the biggest chance), The electorates would find themselves on the winning list. So because they would have secured the biggest catch which is their rallying power to choose their leaders and discard ineptitude at will. And it can only get better from there as it would enable them choose whomever they want in the future, away from the bigger players or parties.
My Vote is for Atiku, but whoever wins, may God protect him and Give him bigger wisdom to lead Nigerians.
