The question is how did he earn up to that amount?

There are more than 28 countries visa that are eligible to travel to Mexico.
They are:
Uk
USA
Canada
Japan
Schengen (please note that the Schengen countries are about 26)

This country gives lots of option. Schengen visa are easier to apply for

so if I get a visa from any of those countries, I can directly fly to Mexico without visiting the country of visa Grantor?
