Soz i wasn't thinking in that line before, as my thoughts were towards my fellow car dealers in the Auto section. But hey, if other people are interested and will benefit from it, why not.

Previously, i had been buying from the blackmarket at N166, but I recently discovered a bureau de' change selling at N157 as at last week Friday cos they bid weekly from CBN.

For those interested, N160 will be the price. (not bad if i make N3, i guess) but  it all depends on their selling price on daily basis (which i will check daily, availability and compare to blackmarket).  If their price changes upward, or is same as black market, i won't bother myself. but if their price beats blackmarket rate, you have a deal.

Has anyone noticed that ever since the sack of previous PHCN CEO's at the distribution plants nationwide, the power supply has been improving? It would appear that these sacked CEO's were the people manipulating the switches.

It is ok to bend the rule as long as it is not broken.  Using the term lease instead of rent in all documents should cover 2/3yrs advance payment.

Thank God we still have educated and intelligent people like you in Nigeria. When you read some comments from majority of posters on this thread, you start to wonder if they are stark illiterates or people who went to school but learnt nothing. That does not warrant taking 2/3 years rent in advance from a tenant that does not receive his salary in advance and can barely survive with a yet to be paid N18,000 minimum wage.
I very much support the newly passed bill and i would also urge the government to build more low cost houses for the "real mases".

They are the ones that can only afford to pay and live in a 1/2 room apartments.

The Nigerian environment is not a stable one. Even those who can only afford to pay and live in 1/2 room apartments want to pay in advance, because they know they may not make the same money next month.

From my opinion, the advance rent prevents many tenants from being homeless should they loose their source of income unexpectedly. At least they know they do not have to worry about shelter until they find their feet.

when you say "landing at Tincan",does it involve the clearing or the owner does that?

1. When its landing at Tincan port, owner does clearing.

2. If its landing at your doorstep, clearing is inclusive.

I'm not a Lagosian but I think the law is a very good one as it will help in cutting down the useless excesses of the so-called landlords. Yes so-called because no one can manufacture a land it a thing of opportunity to own one, either by inheritance or having the money to acquire it, I pray and hope the Rivers Gov borrows a lift from this,

We all seem to think the Landlord is a shylock, but we forget that he is affected by several Government charges which the Government itself does not shy away from collecting.

C of O charges, land charges, approval charges, tenement rate, property tax, construction permit, government consent charges,  environmental impact assessment charges, the list goes on and on.   We haven't added the cost of construction materials.


When this law is implemented, any tenant that comes up with i beg sir Mr landlord should be ready to move into Fashola's house.
