Reports reaching us from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, a foremost Federal educational institution is that staff of the University are protesting against the Vice Chancellor Prof. Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba for executive high handedness and the arbitrary slashing of their salaries without a cogent explanation, non payment of Christmas bonuses for four years. Our correspondent reached out to the demonstrating staff who said Prof. Ozumba is running the institution like his private business and that in August 2017 he deducted 15% of their salaries for no reason at all and up till now staff are yet to receive that money and just few weeks to his going on terminal leave he arbitrarily deducted 40% from staff salaries. Those most affected are admin and non academic staff. A staff who spoke on condition of anonymity said The VC is simply embezzling the funds in order to complete his world class hospital in Enugu. In some quarters it is said Prof. Ozumba is in the good books of the ruling government of President Muhammadu Buhari and is above prosecution and that's why he's running the institution like his private fiefdom. Other staff also alleged that The VC has bribed all the Union leaders in the institution especially ASUU - Academic Staff Union of Universities UNN chapter and SSANU- Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities UNN chapter to look the other way as does what he likes. The demonstrating staff were bitter that The Vice Chancellor is just paying February salaries in mid March and is paying half and if their cries is to be heard remains to be seen. As [b][/b][
