Foreign Affairs › Top Global Chip Maker Unveils Russia Plans by shogsman(op): 10:41am On Mar 29, 2022
Taiwan wants to continue cooperation on joint projects

The world’s top chip-manufacturing nation, Taiwan, plans to continue cooperation with Russia despite the current crisis over Ukraine, Minister of Science and Technology Wu Tsung-tsong said on Monday, as cited by news agency CNA.

While speaking at a Legislative Education and Culture Committee meeting, Wu said that Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) has 50 ongoing projects with the Russian Science Foundation. Most of the projects are in the fields of science, engineering, and technological development, the minister said.

Wu also praised Russia’s science and space technology as being “very good” and said that bilateral cooperation has benefited Taiwan as it develops its own space capabilities, especially in small satellites.

Taiwan is the unmatched leader of the global semiconductor industry, accounting for 92% of the world’s manufacturing capacity. The government has pledged to support international sanctions against Russia, with its chip producer giant TSMC having stopped the production of Russian microprocessors at its plant. Experts have warned, however, that a ban on tech sales to Russia could spark a global microchip war. Sanctions could backfire on manufacturers of computer processors and semiconductors, as many crucial components for their production are sourced exclusively in Russia, they said.

Foreign Affairs › India Ready To Bypass Dollar In Trade With Russia by shogsman(op): 9:09am On Mar 28, 2022

A mechanism bypassing the US dollar is expected to be operational this week

A system allowing direct rupee-ruble payments in trade between Russia and India could be launched this week, the president of the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO), A Sakthivel, told CNBC on Wednesday. The arrangement would allow India and Russia to carry out financial operations bypassing the US dollar. Russia is effectively blocked from using US currency due to Western sanctions over the conflict in Ukraine.

According to the official, the Indian government is working on a proposal to allow up to five nationalized Indian banks to be engaged in the rupee-ruble trade mechanism, and discussions between the central bank governor, the finance minister, and the banks on the matter have already been held. The arrangement would let Indian exporters continue doing business with Russia despite sanctions banning, among other things, international payment mechanisms in the country, such as SWIFT. It would also let India continue buying Russian energy exports and other goods.

According to Sakthivel, the Indian economy could profit from sanctions Russia is facing, as they give Indian exporters an opportunity to expand on the Russian market.
Export to Russia is not much, only in agriculture and pharmacy products. Now that the whole of the West is banning Russia, there will be a lot of opportunities for Indian firms to enter Russia,” he stated.

India’s finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of India have not yet commented on the new trade arrangement.

Unlike the US and the EU, India has not criticized Russia over its military operation in Ukraine, and has abstained from condemning Moscow during the recent UN voting rounds. When asked whether India’s continued commerce with Russia would draw Western ire, Sakthivel said his country had taken a “neutral stand” on the situation in Ukraine.

“The government will take into account all the factors. The government is playing it very carefully,” he stressed.

India exported $3.3 billion worth of goods to Russia in 2021, mostly pharmaceutical products, tea, and coffee. In terms of imports, India bought $6.9 billion worth of Russian products, including arms and defense goods, mineral resources, fertilizers, metals, diamonds and other precious stones. India also imports Russian oil, with recent media reports stating that the country’s major refiner, Indian Oil Corp, has stepped up purchases of Russian crude over the past month. India is also reportedly considering buying raw materials from Russia and Belarus for fertilizer production amid skyrocketing commodities’ prices.

Be calming down. The difference between both sides in a conventional war will come to willpower, morale and numbers as well as disregard for ones life, and the Chinese do that better than the Russians. Russian soldiers are know to mutiny in almost every war. They don't believe in their leaders, and they value their lives more than the Chinese, who also have numbers to throw into a meat factory
Russian soldiers don't have morale, what kind of weird ass assumption do you people even make sef,a country that stems from the millitary powerhouse of the Soviet union don't have morale, which kind mutiny, your speculations don't change facts bro. Until the 2000s china was not even among the top 10 most powerful millitary, it's an emerging power who's just found it's footing you want to compare them with a country that has always been known for Thier millitary prowess in hundred years the lowest Russia has ranked in millitary in the world is number 2

China destroyed by Russia in a conventional war? Don't make me laugh.

If Russia has 1,000 nukes than USA, it doesn't matter. If they both have 5,000+, that's enough to destroy every city or small town in both countries. Having that many nukes resemble who want bomb every City in the whole wide at the same time. 200 is enough, even 20 like Pakistan and India will take out every major Cityof an enemy
I repeat don't talk about things you don't know, 200 is enough in your dreams,so you don't know nuclear facilities can be hit and destroyed abi. So if those 200 nukes are destroyed and targeted are you going to magically pull another one out of your ass then
By the way if you think china can defeat Russia is a conventional war then you don't know much about the subject of discuss. India is still the 4th most powerful millitary in the world and 70% of Thier arms imports come from Russia. You kids need to start reading up before you launch and argument

In conventional warfare, yes. When it comes to nuclear, Russia is neck and neck with USA with 5,000 nukes while China, France, UK and the rest only have in the region of 200
Do your research in a conventional warfare china will be completely destroyed,I don't think you people understand the extent of Russia prowess, you think china will be seeking a millitary alliance with Russia if it was as powerful. And Russia is not neck to neck with USA in nukes capabilities, they have more than 1000 more nukes than USA, that's a big difference. The only area where USA beats Russia is airpower, talk about tactical nukes, nuclear warheads, ballistics, hypersonic race Russia is ahead

They are not.

If Russia and Ukraine was really at war. Russia would have nuked Ukraine to the dust.

The aim is NATO. The aim is America. Ukraine cannot last in a war with Russia for a week!
They might not even use nukes, they might just unleash tactical nukes on Ukraine and devour the country in days.but that would change Putin's narrative because technically they are not at war in Ukraine so they can't use extreme force

Foreign Affairs › Zelensky Demands For One Percent Of Nato's Aircraft And It's Tanks by shogsman(op):
A visibly irked, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky demanded a fraction of the military hardware from Western nations on Saturday. He also asked whether they were afraid of Russia, a Reuters report said.

Although several nations have promised to provide anti-armour and anti-aircraft missiles along with small arms, Zelensky said he needs planes, tanks and anti-ship systems.
Saying we can't fight Russia planes and ships with den guns and machine guns.

In a late-night video address, the president said, "That is what our partners have, that is what is just gathering dust there. This is all for not only the freedom of Ukraine, but for the freedom of Europe."

Ukraine needed only one per cent of NATO's aircraft and one per cent of its tanks and would not ask for more, Zelensky said.
This is the 20th time zelensky has begged them for aircrafts, but NATO don't want to risk a millitary confrontation with Russia

Foreign Affairs › Gas Payments In Rubles Would Backfire On EU Sanctions by shogsman(op): 9:43pm On Mar 26, 2022
The bloc will have to buy rubles from Russia’s central bank

The switch to rubles for gas payments, announced earlier this week by Russian President Vladimir Putin, would force the European Union to circumvent its own anti-Russia sanctions if it wants to keep the gas flowing in, Germany’s Der Spiegel reported, citing economy experts.

According to Düsseldorf economist Jens Südekum, in order to pay for gas deliveries, Europe would have to buy rubles from the Central Bank of Russia, which earlier this month was placed on an EU sanctions list. The measure prohibits any financial transactions between the Russian financial regulator and EU.

“Putin is indirectly forcing us to bypass our own sanctions,” Südekum told the publication. Another expert, Klaus-Jürgen Gern of the Institute for World Economics in Kiel, added that, due to the importance of Russian gas to EU nations (40% of the bloc’s gas needs are covered by Russian imports), the proposed measure “will exert massive pressure on the Western world” and effectively “make their sanctions absurd.”
Furthermore, if the change comes to pass, it will result in the rapid strengthening of Russia’s national currency, the ruble, currencies expert Peter Bofinger told the publication.

“If Western gas consumers are now forced to buy rubles for dollars or euros, the demand for the Russian currency and hence its exchange rate will rise,” he explained.

Although the mechanism of switching to rubles for gas payments is still in the works, the announcement of the change alone has left Russia’s importers seriously puzzled, and dragged the ruble to a three-week high earlier this week. After all, under the worst-case scenario, Russia could turn off the taps on its gas pipes and, with no way to find an alternative source of the commodity fast-enough, that is precisely what is generally feared.

Foreign Affairs › Why Sanctions Don't Phase Russia That Much by shogsman(op): 9:08pm On Mar 26, 2022
The west says they want to asphyxiate Russia economy. over $300b of Russia's foreign reserve has been frozen as of now and lot of western companies has temporarily stop operating in Russia.
Russia however has not even paused not to talk of stop it's invasion even amidst all the sanctions, Which only Means one thing, they are not phased with those sanctions and it's definitely not enough to change Thier stance.
So the question is why are they not taking those sanctions as seriously as people around the world think.the answer is simple they have a lot of wild cards to play.
The first one is Thier close trade relationship with china and India. China has an economy that is bigger than the whole of Europe combined with the largest consumer market on earth and currently it's bilateral relationship with Russia is the closest in the world and it has blatantly refused to take any actions against Russia and continue it's normal trade with them, infact 2 months ago china signed a $150b oil deal with Russia.
Infact china is looking to increase it's oil and commodities imports from Russia by 70%
The same thing goes for India, infact india has increased it's Russian oil purchase this very month, and still actively importing arms, wheat and many more commodities from Russia.
Even most Western countries still import most of their oil and gas from Russia amidst this tensions.
Europe relies heavily on Russian gas,it
As of today Russia sells over a $1b worth of gas to Europe daily.
Russia will always have oil and there will always be buyers for that oil.
Countries like mexico, Hungary, Portugal,Qatar, china India, Columbia, south Korea,Japan,Brazil,Iran, Pakistan,Serbia, Armenia,UAE,the whole of Africa(50 countries),all of south America 17 countries,Canada, USA and many others including NATO countries still trade with Russia even till today.
The whole of Europe still buy oil from Russia,in fact most of them are now required to pay in rubles.
How do you aim to asphyxiate an economy that does not need you as much as you need them.
When Mastercard temporarily suspend operations in Russia to show support for Ukraine the second day it was replaced by china's Union pay and Mastercard's shares lost billions in just a day.
Russia has by far the biggest consumer market in Europe so there is no way those companies can stay away for long because it's obviously bad for business and they will loose capital and investments in droves, that's why most of them are saying they are temporarily suspending operations not leaving the country.
