A Film is like a building with the story being the foundation on which every other aspect of the filmic production is built. Get the story and its treatment right and you’re already halfway to getting a good Film.

We watched It’s her Day and the story simply blew us away. Technically, it is not high up there. No creative photography or editing. No cutting-edge directorial input that was meant to draw accolades. It was just all about the story, but what a story!

It is, quite enough, a simple story. A Groom, desirous of making a bold statement to his bride and her well-to-do family promises her a fairy tale wedding. Little did he know that he was marrying into a Family of high society Sharks!

The Bride’s family, knowing that all bills was on the Groom, go overboard in their spending with the Groom virtually drowning under a deluge of bills.

To add salt to injury, the Bride’s Family, never believing that the Groom and his family were good enough for them in the first place, adopt a snobbish attitude towards them, going to the extent of trying to dictate the particular type of Best Man they would desire and dress code for the Groom’s Family.

Things come to a head and the frustrated Groom eventually summons the courage to abandon the Bride at the Wedding Altar, of all places!

It was an unmitigated high society wedding disaster and even Linda Ikeji sef carry am.

The layers of comedic action are the ingredients that uplift this Film. A Film should be a reflection of a society. It’s Her Day not only reflects our society but also goes ahead to poke fun at it.

Cities around Europe are getting ready to to take the place of post-Brexit London.

Britain’s vote to leave the European Union rocked has raised concerns about the future of London as the financial and tech capital of Europe.

Many global companies said they might have to move some of their operations away from the British capital to protect their EU status. And cities are already lining up to welcome them.

Frankfurt

Frankfurt is eager to welcome bankers fleeing London. The German city is home to the European Central Bank, the Bundesbank, as well as the European Insurance authority.

Under EU rules, banks and insurance companies can operate anywhere across the EU if they establish operations in one of its member states. The city of choice has been London, but Frankfurt hopes it could become the next finance hub after Brexit.

Frankfurt also regularly ends high on quality-of-living rankings. According to Mercer’s 2016 survey, Frankfurt is the 7th top place to live, ahead of London, Paris and New York. The city is also smaller and more affordable than London.

British telecommunication industry giant Vodafone says it's considering moving its headquarters out of the U.K. following last week's shock referendum result.

The loss of the company, whose stock helps anchor the benchmark FTSE 100, would be a stinging blow for a country that is struggling to come to terms with the economic consequences of a vote to part with its European neighbors.

In a bid to enhance privacy, social media giant Facebook announced enhancements to the Facebook Messenger platform. The US technology giant said this feature would be known as “secret conversations” which can be read only by the sender and recipient.

“Providing more ways for people to safely share is an important part of making the world more open and connected,” the social network’s vice president David Marcus said on his Facebook page.

Facebook “fully expects this to be available to everyone by end of the summer,” a spokesperson said........

A popular disc jokey, who goes by the name Dj Timmy has reacted to the Headies 2015 awards which has generated a lot of controversies on the social media.

The respected DJ, in an open letter, revealed that the Headies award is not one to be rated high as it breeds bad blood among music artistes and relegates a few others who do not get to win any award.

When i wrote my first open letter to Headies on December 29, 2013, the majority opinions i got was that i was correct while others felt i was just an “Attention seeker”.

Headies as an award should be credibile and not just over hyped. We have hundreds of award shows every year in Nigeria and they are not as controversial as this one. Headies as an award are still not appreciating certain artiste, producers, entertainers and Dj’s who work 24/7 to make sure they bring out the best. They give us the impression that once you are not nominated or you do not win, you have not started your career.

This is a BIG LIE. Over the years, All Ayo Animashaun and HipTv family have proven is that Money over Integrity and that is why he always ignores the choices of majority of Nigerians or could it be that they innocently don’t even know what they are doing?

I am not here to analyse the faults of headies in full but you can read the other complains on twitter with the hashtag #TheHeadies2015.

Firstly, I noticed your hall was half empty. Your live broadcast that you always brag about had the picture quality of NTA channel 10 and your technical crew were going offline every time things became awkward and they immediately have to switch to “lyrics on the go” to cover up your shame. I watched BET African awards live and MTV and I can see a very huge difference in all aspects. You still have a lot to learn.

Another disturbing fact is that headies as an award is creating bad blood among colleagues in the Nigerian music scene. Headies is the reason why we have not seen collaborations among certain musicians. Tell me why Phyno, Davido, Falz, Solidstar and many other music producers and artiste who have been topping charts this year where not recognized?

They also underline the scale of work required to purify an agency that is arguably the armpit of corruption in the most populous black nation. It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God. Sourced from two different chapters and verses (Mark 10:25 and Matthew 19:24) in the Christians’ holy book, the Bible, this quotation is one of the most popular pastoral tools for summarizing the vanity of wealth – and life.

But nothing better captures the secrecy shrouding business activities at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) than a parody of this saying: it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for anyone to enter into the Apapa premises of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

Before setting out for Apapa, which houses the largest and busiest seaport in Nigeria, and is one of the most horrendous traffic-gridlock zones in the densely populated city of Lagos, I had been warned by everyone who knew something about the ports that I would be unable to enter. Still, on Monday, December 14, 2015, I arrived Apapa in the company of my one-day guide who knew the area so well and graciously offered to help with navigating opening-day impediments.

Much of the first day’s work was to revolve round securing temporary accommodation in Apapa pending the conclusion of the assignment – this didn’t happen, by the way – and general surveying operations around the port

After the failed attempt to secure accommodation, my guide and I proceeded to the Apapa ports, where we were to study the inflow and outflow of articulated vehicles, the conduct of uniformed men, the transactional conversations of clearing agents and the touting drive of document forgers. In three hours, we were done with the last three, and it was time to move closer to the port entrance to get a closer picture of business.

Although we had been informed that this was a period of low business, we counted the entry of at least five articulated vehicles in a minute, translating to an estimated average of 300 vehicles in an hour!

We were standing some 50metres off the gate and had barely been there for five minutes when a policeman walked westward towards our direction. “Yes, what are you doing here?” he says in a brusque, brisk tone. “What exactly do you want”? “We’re waiting for a phone call, sir,” I reply. “Move over there,” he barks. “This is a restricted zone.” Our work was over for the day, apparently; but as we retreated, I looked out for the badge on his uniform. Kenyans have expressed anger at President Uhuru Kenyatta after watching a video footage posted online that showed him driving a vehicle without wearing a seat belt.

In the footage, President Kenyatta is seen entering a car and driving to his rural home in Gatundu, Kiambu County, without wearing a seat belt.

The video, which is a promo of an interview with Citizen TV anchor-cum-reporter Jacque Maribe, has been shared widely on social media.
Kenyans were shocked by the President’s poor judgment to drive a vehicle without considering traffic regulations, despite his government’s ongoing road safety campaign by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

The star-studded guest list arrived on the island of St. Barthelemy, where the Russian has been enjoying a winter vacation with his family and friends.
