Electric cars are cool. BUT I want you or anyone to explain one thing to me. I want to know how the AC system works in electric cars. Will there be a compressor driven by a belt like the normal ones we have around now? But then there is no engine to spin the compressor, will it be as effective as the reGular ac system? I hope you get what I m trying to ask.

No...your odometer reading will remain the same.
Just push the black knob on your cluster ( speedometer) and hold it for like 10 secs,while holding it put the key in the ignition and turn On the ignition but don't start the car.
After 10 secs leave the knob and start the car.it will clear off the maintenance required light.

Ok. If I do this will it reset my odo miles reading to 00000. ?

It's very easy just Turn the ignition key to 'ON' and press the odometer button until the display reads ODO (not Trip A or B). Hold in the same button you used in step 1. While holding the button in, turn the ignition key to ON. Then the Maintenance Required light should blink and go out.

I just changed the oil and the filter. The maintainance required ight still blinks at startup.
I dont know how to reset on my own. But I intend to take the car to my electrician this weekend to scan a d reset the thing.

There's a difference between maintenance required and check engine light.
A check engine light will require a scan to get the code while a maintenance required light comes on to remind you to change your oil. It comes on 5,000 miles after the last time it was reset.

I guage oil after leaving car to cool down very well. No bubbles after shutting down the engine. I wil check pcv again at another mech shop.

the 20w50 has done what it was designed to do to modern engines. sloooooowwwwwly kill it.
the blue smoke at start up are your valve seals starting to give up.
do you check the oil with the engine running or when you have shut down your engine and waited for about 20 minutes?
the engine oil pump churns the oil when it is working so a few bubbles aren't out of the ordinary when engine is working but if you see bubbles after you have shut the engine down for about 20 minutes, then something fishy is going on in your engine.
check your pcv and line. clean them up. the pcv gets clogged sometimes leading to crank case overpressure which may create the bubbles you are seeing.

Weeks ago maintance required light started blinking 7 times at engine startup. I checked engine when engine was hot, and checking the engine oil, I found tinny bubbles on the dipstick. Is this normal?
Car is running good with no issues, no abnormal sound (when revving too), colllant level is normal, tranny &power steering oil are on normal level.
I decided to drain engine oil and refill again ( I also changed oil filter). Two days after changing oil I cld still find tinny bubbles again when engine is hot.

NOTE:
bubbles disappear immediately after putting off the engine. Oil level on dip stick is ok.

Car is camry 05.

Oil used is mobil xhp 20/50 ...... ( I knw ur take on this...u see I once used the total 10/40semi-syntehetic or so but oil keeps reducing bit by bit so I changed to 20/50. Even when using 20/50 oil is still reducing but at a ver very slow rate, Negligible rate) oil never gets to middle or low on dipstick)

Every Once in a while and only at cold start, engine gives blue smoke but disappers after few secs.

Major cause of a damaged head gasket is extreem temperatures, this will certainly cause head gasket damage, but it does more than that in modern day engines.
Most engines are made up of 2 basic components,
the head Cylinder and the block, in older engines the block is made of cast iron, while the head is made from aluminum. In newer engines the block and the head Cylinder are made from aluminum.

here's the Bummer, in sever cases of overheating when the engine looses compression, the head Cylinder gets warped (uneven surface) same with the block.

The Normal Nigerian mentality is to jump at replacing the head gasket with a graphite head gasket, remove the Thermostat and connect the fans directly. (Resulting if increase fuel consumption)

Now that could work for a few weeks, but after a while you are back to square one, which is a damaged head gasket. The reason is the mating surfaces are not overlapping evenly, and the heat from combustion will easily destroy the graphite head gasket at the uneven points.

proper repair procedures are required before replacing the head gasket of a vehicle, it could include replacing all valve seals and piston rings and even the block. Skimming the head is unavoidable if you want a lasting repair job. Also replacing radiator and installing coolant will help keep temperatures in check.

finally if you are driving and notice a spike in engine temperature, please park and leave car to cool of until you can touch the engine with your bare hands. Pouring water into an extremely hot engine will cause rapid uneven contraction of metals which could cause cracks in block or head.

Also if your vehicle has a bleeding procedure ensure you follow it to avoid air pockets which will certainly cause overheating if not eliminated.

finally when buying a car (Nigerian used or toks) ensure it comes with a metal head gasket and not graphite that way you are certain engine has not been tampered with. (Not in every case)

I own a Toyota sienna 06 and these same symptoms manifests on my ride. When you slow down after light acceleration and listen to your engine the car goes into neutral. If you accelerate immediately car will rev but if you allow those 3 seconds pass gear will engage again.

Please note on top speed and aggressive driving you won’t notice any of these

Definitely not on this ride. @ op get a bidirectional scan tool visit a competent workshop and let them monitor your transmission performance using actual values. Through this you would be able to tell if your transmission shifts properly. If you don't know how and you get a professional scan tool. I can put you through

It is a way automobile manufacturers integrate/drive automatic transmissions. That is why you can see same transmission behaving differently in different brands. For instance Aisin transmission in VW and Volvo will behave differently. In some models of Volvo, once you stop for X number of times within X distance, without exceeding X speed, the car automatically switches to Traffic mode. In this mode, it will start in 2 and will delay upshifts. There are many manufacturer-specific strategies like that. ZFs can be programmed in tonnes of ways.

Other strategies could restrict shift when it senses the vehicle is making a bend. This is where it is very important that the same size of tires are installed and inflated equally at all times. Once there is a difference, the vehicle thinks you are in a bend, and you are stuck in a range.

In this Toyota case, it is something I know, and only needed the OP to confirm. It should be noted that the delays are typically 2-3 seconds, depending on how light you go on throttle after applying brakes. If you don't touch the brakes, it stays away. His complaint about 7 seconds is just a psychology thing, as it looks like eternity, especially if you are coming from another vehicle that doesn't deploy this strategy. At lower speeds and brakes are applied, the computer commands the gear to neutral, and will select based on what your TPS tells it. Unfortunately, the computer is just too slow at doing this job well. It can be annoying, but that's the way it is. Like I said before, the heavier you go on the throttle after braking, the quicker the downshift. The reason it doesn't happen at higher speeds is because the computer already knows that a downshift is not likely.

Hope this helps in understanding why a similar symptom in a Honda (or any other brand) could be caused by something entirely different.

Most of these kazeems basically draws inference based on assumptions. Listen to Kashif and dont turn your gear into a practical specimen.

The issue is whenever I have the cause to drive below 50kmph or slow down to 50kmph (with legs on brake), and later I need to mover faster, I press the throttle hoping the car will surge forward, but it will just rev up for some secs before selecting the normal gear.

Nothing should concern range cable with this problem.

DO NOT touch anything inside that gear. I think it is just a computer calibration playing games with your mind. To confirm this, drive uphill and let the car slow down on its own without using the brakes. If what you described doesn't happen, it is calibration.

U r right, that issue do not happen when driving uphill-like road, or any hill.

But it happens when decending with legs on brake & slowing down hill-like road, or any hill. Any moment I put my foot on throttle after getting down from such road, tranny seems to be in neutral for some secs and car revs high.

Car drives fine, just that when I apply brake to slow down to anything less than 50km/h
Upon pressing the throttle again I expect the gear to have already downshifted to like 2 or 1, but transmission goes to neutral for few seconds making the rpm go up

Seems like a shift solenoid issue. I think a dirty filter should manifest at all times especially during a cold start. Which type of scanner was used for scanning?

OBD II scanner

If the shaft solenoid is the culprit then is it replaceable?
Why didnt the scanner detect it?

Below are the details:

At speeds below 50km/h

and cruising car at gear 3

Slowed down briefly for a poth hole

After passing poth hole

I expect the gear to downshift to 2, but gear goes to neutral for like 7 secs before getting back to appropriate gear. I know gear goes to neutral because rpm goes up when gas pedal is pressed.

Car has been scanned severally and no code came up.

Note that this does not happen when travelling at higher speeds.car does pretty well at higher speeds.
Tranny oil is ok upon inspection. I use type t4 (pinkish red, smells like syrup etc)


My kazeems suggest I clean the transmission filter

I dont want to touch nothing except I seek advice from the numerous informed car gurus here on NL.
