PoliticsWho Will You Vote For? by Sijien(op): 9:13am On Aug 04, 2006
For a very long time, I have not had the time to go through Nigerian Newspapers online. I have been stuck in a trafffic of activities. My interest was only rekindled when Funso Williams was murdered just some days back. Such is the tragedy the political class have brought upon Nigeria. Our dear country has lost some of its brightest in mindless killings fuelled by lust for power and corrupt enrichment. This is simply the fact in terms of governance in Nigeria. Just 1% of politians actually seek to serve the people. So what happens to the rest 99%? They only plot to circumvent the so called " will of the people" by either doing it through " Cash for Votes" or outrightly grabbing the ballot boxes and running away to stuff them. Worse still, the results are torn middle way to INEC's office and replaced by handwritten notes from some "godfather".

Brushing through the pages of the newspapers made me realise how suddenly we were in 2007( the election year). What gives me the most headache is that the wheel of time is about to be turned back many years, bringing us back to the days where you will just pick up the phone and call ABUJA and "phew" contracts will show. Well, it is not actually getting the contracts that is the problem. It is getting the mobilisation fee and vanishing into thin air to start rolling in rotten opulence at the expenses of all. IBB and Atiku are the forunners as much as I have gathered. These two people in no small measure are probably the most corrupt Nigerians alive. Today, Nigeria is debts-free. But if any of the two gets into presidency, in just two years, I repeat, 2 years, Nigeria could be $20 billions poorer while their swiss accounts grow in mass.

This leaves me with only one question: are there no other capable Nigerians who can lead our dear nation? Why take 2steps forward and 10 steps backwards? If the OBJ is the man I know, he would definately do something about this. My only prayer is that our worst nightmares for Nigeria dont come to reality.

God Bless Nigeria.
