The party revealed this in a resolution signed by the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, and the party’s National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, at the end of the NWC meeting held on Monday in Abuja. The resolution read, “The NWC at its meeting of July 30, 2018, examined the unfolding developments within the party in Kwara State, specifically the irregularities that characterised the conduct and outcome of the congresses that produced the leadership of the party at all levels (ward, local government and state). “The committee also reviewed that actions of some of the leaders of the party that emerged from the above congress who participated in an open rally calling on the Senate President to decamp to the PDP. “The NWC after a careful and exhaustive deliberation on this and other developments in the state chapter of the party, and pursuant to the provisions of article 13.4 (xvi) and (xvii) of the party’s constitution, invoked its powers as enshrined therein and hereby resolve to dissolve all party organs from ward, local government and state executive of the party in Kwara.” The APC leadership consequently appointed a caretaker committee led by Bashir Bolarinwa to head the State Executive Committee of the party in Kwara, while caretaker committees would be constituted in the wards and local government areas. They noted that the appointment of the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Kwara State Executive Committee takes immediate effect. http://silicongist.com.ng/trending/updates/apc-dissolves-kwara-exco-appoints-caretaker-committees/ |

A JUDGE in the Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo, Justice David Oladimeji, yesterday, ordered the Peoples Democratic party, PDP, Governorship Candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to produce his certificate before the court on Wednesday, August 1, 2018. Messrs. Rasheed Olabayo and Oluwaseun Idowu had approached the court claiming that Senator Adeleke did not possess secondary school certificate as required by Section 177 (d) of the 1999 constitution and told the court to set aside the July 21, 2018 primary election which produced him as the governorship candidate of the PDP. The court, while ruling on the ex-parte application filed by Rasheed Olabayo and Oluwaseun Idowu, explained that granting the leave to restrain the PDP from presenting Adeleke as its governorship candidate over his inability to present his certificate may subject the court to mockery if the Senator thereafter presents the certificate. Justice David Oladimeji said: “It will be inequitable not to allow the respondent to come and show his certificate if he has any but if given the opportunity to present his side of the case, the balance which is necessary for interlocutory injunction would be adequately considered.” Justice Oladimeji explained further that the ex-parte injunction has only seven days lifespan and that the window is open till August 8, according to the affidavits sworn to by the applicants. The presiding judge added that “being an election matter, it is my conviction that the public will not be uninterested in the proceedings of this court”, explaining that the importance of the matter would make the court not to grant the injunction and warned that, “once a matter is before a court any party cannot take a further step without the express permission of the court”. Justice Oladimeji thereafter adjourned the motion on notice till Wednesday, August 1, 2018 for definite hearing, adding that no form of excuse from the litigants would be tolerated by the court. http://silicongist.com.ng/ekiti-election/court-gives-adeleke-six-days-to-present-his-certificate/ |

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the newly elected governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi to prioritise the payment of workers salaries in his second tenure. Congress President, Ayuba Wabba, who gave the charge in Abuja yesterday in a letter of congratulation to the governor-elect, said his election is a reflection of popular wish of the people. While urging Fayemi not use his victory as a pay back time, Wabba said he must see his re-election as an opportunity to complete the work he started during his first tenure. Wabba opined that Fayemi’s election by the Ekiti people confer on them the right to ask question particularly on electoral promises made to them during the electioneering campaigns. “There are other compelling needs of Ekiti people on the basis of which they will look up to you. They shall be acting within their civic rights and responsibility if and when they hold you accountable to your promises. Our responsibility to your government would be no less. We therefore urge you to give your utmost best,” he said. Source: http://silicongist.com.ng/local-news/nlc-urges-fayemi-to-prioritise-payment-of-workers-salaries/ |

The Bills were Corporate Manslaughter Bill of 2018; the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Skill Fund Amendment Bill of 2018; N.C.P.E.A (Child Protection and Empowerment) Amendment Bill 2018 and the Courts and Tribunals Standard Scale of Fines Bill of 2017. According to a letter read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara at Thursday plenary, the President justified his decision to withhold presidential assents on the bill for reasons of inconsistencies. On the Corporate Manslaughter Bill of 2018, the president adduced that the Provision of Section 39 which presumes an individual innocent until proven guilty in a competent Court of Law is contravened by the Bill, adding that it may be useful for the Bill to cover penalties to be imposed for the specific offenses. On the second bill, the president also stated that the amount proposed in the the Fund size will not be effective due to the fact that it retains the original fund size. He also withheld his signature on the third bill due to the fact that the proposed roles were being carried out by the Ministry of Women Affairs. On the fourth bill titled “Courts and Tribunals Standard Scale of Fines Bill of 2017”, the president stated that the proposed fines seem to be ambiguous and do not specify scales of offenses and fines as the Naira has a dynamic characteristic, hence the fixed scale may later not be practical. http://silicongist.com.ng/trending/buhari-declines-presidential-assents-on-4-bills-passed-by-n-assembly/ |
Social commentator and humour merchant, Francis Agoda, known by many as I Go Dye has shaded Governor Fayose of Ekiti State over the tear gas incident that happened on Tuesday at the PDP rally in Ekiti, which had the governor crying out to the international community for help over what he described as injustice and high-handedness of the federal government by saying the governor got a treatment he deserved because he’s part of the corrupt system. I Go Dye writes on his Instagram page “When pensioners protested this is what they got. When we protested for fuel pump hike this is what we got. silicongist:According to Frank, democracy in Nigeria is again being confronted by massive attack allegedly launched by security agents employed and funded by the country to protect the citizens and safe guard the nation’s territorial integrity. In an open letter to the UN on Thursday titled: “Police siege on Ekiti: Nigeria democracy on trial” Frank said: “Yesterday the world saw an appalling form of impunity and brutality against innocent citizens in Ekiti State apparently in a last ditch effort to sway the results of this Saturday’s gubernatorial election in favour of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Kayode Fayemi. “The rally (road walk) organized by the outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not only disrupted with noxious and harmful gas, Fayose was forcefully restricted to the Government House – where he was equally gassed. This renewed intimidation, harassment and attacks against leaders and members of an opposition political party in Nigeria, has compelled me to alert you of the threat to peace and democracy in the country as amply demonstrated by the highhandedness and open display of intolerance by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against opposition political parties in Nigeria. “There is, therefore, urgent need for the United Nations (UN) under your leadership to intervene to prevent the ongoing gross violation of the fundamental human rights of citizens to assemble and the brutal attacks against the person of Fayose and hundreds of supporters of the PDP, who had congregated for a grand finale rally in favour of its candidate in the Election, Professor Olusola Eleka, only to be driven back to their houses by the police through the use of tear gas and live ammunitions. Note that the police were recently deployed to the State by the Federal Government under the guise of maintaining law and order before, during and after the Saturday election. Regrettably, the police deployed to the state in addition to the officers and men in the Ekiti State Police Command have now turned to be an army of occupation. “The ongoing police siege on Ekiti State by 30,000 fully armed policemen in the guise of election duty is nothing but a well-orchestrated security crackdown on innocent citizens who are hoping to be allowed to cast their ballot on Saturday and participate in electing the next governor of the state. “It has been established by several UN Conventions and human rights’ charter that the right to vote and be voted for is an inalienable right of a citizens of any country. For the a avoidance of doubt, the number of police personnel and equipment deployed so far for the Ekiti election include a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police in charge of operations, Assistant Inspectors General of Police, Four Commissioners of Police, eight Deputy Commissioners of Police, 30,000 fully armed policemen, two patrol surveillance helicopters, 5 additional armored personnel carriers, 10 amoured personnel vehicles and 25,000 police patrol vehicles. The above represents police deployment. Other security agencies will yet make similar deployments.” While calling on UN to call the APC led federal government to order, Frank said: “I dare say that the unlawful use of the police against innocent citizens and members of the opposition PDP in Ekiti is a direct manifestation of the level of desperation of the APC and the present administration to win the Ekiti Governorship election. Let me add that had ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP be this desperate in 2015, Buhari and APC would never have tasted power. Impunity has overwhelmed us in Nigeria. And we need help to ensure that our democracy and voting process is devoid of harassment, intimidation and undue influence by the government. “If the open display of barbarity by the police in Ekiti State, is anything to go by, one can safely say that a worse fate awaits members and leaders of the opposition political parties during the 2019 general elections. The UN and by extension the world cannot afford to condone this open aggression against a peaceful people gearing up to elect a governor of their choice! This is why I am calling on you to come to the aid of Nigeria in this dark hour of massive security crackdown against the people of Ekiti State. Otherwise, chaos and anarchy may soon reign in an unimaginable way should the people now pushed against the wall be forced to resort to self help to defend themselves. If a Governor can be treated in such shabby and inhuman manner, then where lies the hope for the common man on the streets?” http://silicongist.com.ng/local-news/ekiti-poll-ex-apc-spokesman-writes-un-says-democracy-on-trial/ |
The former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Timi Frank has written to the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, calling on the world leaders to come to the aid of Nigeria and the people of Ekiti state in what he described as “dark hour of massive security crackdown against the people.” According to Frank, democracy in Nigeria is again being confronted by massive attack allegedly launched by security agents employed and funded by the country to protect the citizens and safe guard the nation’s territorial integrity. http://silicongist.com.ng/local-news/ekiti-poll-ex-apc-spokesman-writes-un-says-democracy-on-trial/ |
Tension is brewing in Ekiti presently as palpable fear and anger have enveloped the people after governor of the state was allegedly beaten, tear gassed and dragged on the floor by security men who had occupied the gates of the governor’s office since Tuesday when President Mohammadu Buhari came to the state for mega rally of the All Progressive Congress. Posters displaying PDP candidates were torn at the Fajuyi park and replaced with those of APC candidate. The governor was bandaged on the neck and hands, managed to speak with teeming supporters who massed to the governor’s office to sympathize with him. The governor suddenly fainted after briefly addressing the people and that further angered them as they cursed and rained verbal invectives on the opposition and candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Kayode Fayemi Trouble started when Fayose, leading thousands of supporters in a victory walk he had announced to hold in Ado Ekiti some days ago, approached some stern looking armed policemen to demand why they were preventing people to mass at the campaign venue in Fajuyi pavilion. Responding, security men allegedly teargassed him and many others, and shot sporadically in the air. Alleging physical assault by the security agents, Fayose said: ” I was slapped by a policeman who kicked me and shouted at me, but I want you to be strong and be of great courage do not be discouraged, this battle must be won. They have come to occupy our land, this is not our democracy. I pray that they will not cause 1883 in Ekiti. I call on the international communities and relevant agencies, Ekiti is under seige.
