When you get awarded a new project, try as much as possible not to be too excited, because when you get too excited, you wont be able to think things through thoroughly. Lose the WOW! feeling and you would make less mistakes. Before accepting any job, make sure you discuss and understand all the terms and conditions, and lastly, I have never met a straightforward Indian on freelancer, all the Indians I've had dealings with were always looking to take advantage of me, and some of them succeeded. I understand bro, but you shouldn't see Freelancer just as a means to raising a needed sum, that way it might be difficult to succeed. A little more dedication and you might find it worth your while and you wouldn't think about anything else. I am not saying that Freelancer is the be-all and end-all, our dreams are different after all, what am saying is just put your mind to it and you can succeed in it. Before freelancer, I had never written anything resembling an article in my life and never imagined I was ever going to, but fate and destiny led me to this thread and ultimately to freelancer and now I can construct some good write ups and get paid for it, I can transcribe and get paid for it, I can proofread and get paid for it. Am now getting paid for things I never knew I could do, talk less of getting paid for doing them. I am making tangible amount, building my freelancer presence, with the goal of making even more money which I can finally invest into something else outside Freelancer, and I would still have freelancer to fall back to should i experience any shortcomings in my other business. Transcription is a good one too, brings a lot of pay, but once a transcription job is advertised, those guys with big reviews dive it, and this is the kind of job where employers look at reviews and experience, knowing their job is in good hands. As for translations, are you fluent in other languages aside Nigerian languages and English? Employers wouldn't want you translating their jobs with Google Translate. sseunth:

Hello house. today makes it 7days since i joined freelancer which was a good way to keep busy while I await some other things. Hmmm, make i share my tori. i got my first project about 24hours after opening my account, the guy asked me to write 20articles on one dead topic: locksmith.
the guy's name is MOHDS2, Yes, I will not forget that name in a hurry. The guy-man gimme 2days, 20 articles, 500words each. I collect the thing happily without asking questions, $1 per article. I was so happy when I beat all the dons dem, collect contract, the fact say I win bid where dat guy wey maga dey still dey sweet me. It was a classic case of IN YOUR FACE. I have dunked on people on the basketball court, I did it again on freelancer. heheheheheh.

For those of us complaining about running out of bids, this is what I did and before i could finish my 100 bids, i had already made more than $80. As newbies, we are all given the opportunity to try out the PLUS membership plan(1 month FREE TRIAL VERSION), which comes with 100 BIDS, but to activate it, you would need to verify your means of payment, which i did with my GTB Mastercard, and then i activated the TRIAL membership. This may sound like an anecdote, but we all can learn from this. In this age and time, effective communication is about all we need to maintain any type of relationship - business and informal. We have people calling up their garri, yam, oil sellers on the phone, and telling them what they want. They will also say they won't come and collect those items by themselves, rather they will send someone. It takes a HUGE CUSTOMER SERVICE on the part of the seller to gain such TRUST
Bringing it nearer home, I will dwell on a little point that will highlight the importance of the bolded above.
How many of us are following our employers on FL? If you are not, you are missing a golden opportunity. But wait..... slow down. The hard work comes first.
Without GOOD PRICING, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, and TRUST, following your employer will not be of any benefit.
How many of us have bought an item from the market, and later saw where it was sold for 0.50k cheaper. Most times we feel we have been cheated without even checking if the QUALITY of the second item is the same as the one we bought. That is human nature.
Do you know that the gain market women make onba carton of beloxxi cream crackers is not up to N50? Why do they do this. They know they are in it FOR A LONG TIME. They know they are in a relationship-building venture. They know the only thing that can sustain them is a repeat customer. They know they can acquire many repeat customers by providing good prices, great customer services and trust.
So I ask, "how do you see your FL business?" How often have you seen a palm oil seller also selling cosmetics? As local and rustic as she may be, she knows her skill and specialization, and faces it with her full energy. Yes she knows that the restaurant woman down the road may be making more money, but she will never judge her the success of her palm oil business with the crowd in that restaurant.
I have seen many of us feel like they are wasting time with article writing because of the pay. Human nature. We've all been there. But do you realise that if you face article writing alone, and become so good at it, you can score writing projects of 100usd per 500 words. YES!! .....I know what you are thinking now. (On Freelancer?) NO!
Like ladywriter always say, article writing is like getting one's feet wet on FL. You are learning a whole business. You are learning pricing mechanics, customer service, skill development, international trade and finance etc. It is like any brick and mortar business.
You have American employers, how many of them did you send greetings on July 4? Or you do not even know what July 4 means to Americans?
If you do not want to get frustrated, have a realistic expectation. Do you know it takes some businesses from 6 to 12 months to break even, not to talk of profit? Patience man......patience woman. Rome was not built in a day. Do not take on skills you do not have passion for, just because you see someone making big from it. You may never be as successful. That person may have started 2 years ago. Pasion kept him that long. Are you willing to do it for 2 years before attaining that person's current success?
By all means, learn new skills. But make sure you are passionate in all. Passion is the only thing that will make you go the extra mile in satisfying your employers. Passion is the only thing that will keep you going when no jobs are forthcoming.

I may seem to have veered from the main thing I wanted to point out here, but all I have said so far MUST be realized before you can benefit from following your employer.
Once an employer you are following posts a new project, you will get a notification in your email with respect to that. FL will always tell us that our chances of getting hired by a former employer is very much higher than that of someone we have never worked for before.
Once you get the email alert, quickly check the project to see if it is within your skill and ability. If it is, then bid. This is where your integrity as a seller will either make you or mar you. If you have satisfied the employer previously, your chance of getting selected is high. If not, to your tents.......
I did a job for someone earlier this year. It was a Master's degree thesis. He wanted me to reduce the plagiarism content to less than 10% using Turnitin plagiarism tool. Only about 30% of the whole thesis was affected so it wasn't really a big deal. At my former rate of 2usd/500 words then, the worth of the project shouldn't be more than 50usd, and I could have finished it under 5 days. He simply told me he needed it in 2 weeks and offerred 80usd.
I did it in7 days, submitted it on the 10th day beating his expectations. His feedback was out of this world. We struck a good rapport.
He disappeared from my radar, and just last Monday, he posted a new project. I got the email alert and saw it was something I could do.
I decided not to bid. I rather elected to chat with him instead. (Please note that I have been sending hellos to him for months but no reply).
I started the chat and he was so happy. He immediately told me he just posted a project. He shared the details with me and asked if I can take it up though he only has 25usd budgeted for it. This is a simple proofreading of about 1000words job application letter.
He wanted it in 24 hours. I delivered in less than 11 hours.
They say, "Think outside the box."
I say, "Think like there is NO box."

Am a newbie myself, opened my account on June 22nd, made my first freelancer money on the 3rd of July and since then, it has been upwards and onward. I have grown more confident in my relations with clients and have absolutely lost that Wow reaction whenever am awarded a project. The progress has been a sweet one and its all down to persistence, dedication, hardwork and a little luck. Transcription is what has given me the most money on FL, although am about to beat that feat with my current job of proofreading some pages in a website. You guys shouldn't be intimidated by the successes of old freelancers(Ladywriter,Coder), their presence here should encourage us to do more, but it is also a fact that they started from somewhere, they started small and grew with time. My point is, maintain the same professional attitude towards those projects that pay peanuts, because they are just stepping stones. Yeah, learning to write ebooks would be totally worth it, and I know i have you to mentor me whenever am ready. But at the moment my personal best now in terms of jobs that pay big is Transcription. A 30mins transcription job pays around $30-40 ladywriter:
Hmmm! That is why you need to learn more skills. Easy tasks like article writing and data entry gets lots of bids. But not Market and internet research, competitor's research or other forms of research that is brain tasking but worth it at the end. E-book and report writing is also a good skill you can learn. A 5000 words e-book can go for $100 - $200, depending on the client's budget. These skills are not as difficult as you think, you only need to use your brain and your writing skills and at the end you smile to the bank big time. |

To get the best rate, let your money accumulate to as high as possible: $1000 - $3000; then use a wire withdrawal. Then go to BDC and get standard black market rate.

You can't have a one bank card charging whatever it wants. What stops them from changing 100 versus 200 versus vs 50 vs 1 vs 3?
The 5000+ banks throughout the world the issuing visa/mc are each setting the exchange rates individually as they chose?
What is GTB exchange rate for when you use you naira mastercard in India or Pakistan or Myanmar or Ghana or Korea or Thailand or etc etc.
They have set the exchange rates for these too from Naira to Riyals to Cedis to USD to Rupees to Baht to Ruble?

Click on your profile picture and scroll down to MY REWARDS, when you get there, check the top left side of the page and you would see OVERVIEW--REWARDS--CREDIT SHOP--BADGES. From the OVERVIEW, you get to see all the coins and badges you racked up doing all sorts of things on the website, then from the CREDIT SHOP, you can see how much coins is needed for a level1, level2 and level3 exams as well as how much coins needed for other things too. From what you see, if your coins are up to 1000 which is what level1 exam requires, then you can click on BUY ME NOW. When you have done that, then look up to the top left hand side of your page where it says WORK, click on it and look all the way down to GET CERTIFIED, it will take you to the skills Lab where the skill level you purchased would be acknowledged and you would get the chance to write one of the most basic tests recommended by Freelancer, like US ENGLISH(level1), UK ENGLISH(level1) etc. I hope this helps you and please try as much as you can to spend some time on the site, play around and explore. ranson:
