PoliticsFROM THE ARCHIVE: Buhari’s First Speech As Nigeria’s Military Head Of State by simplemyk(op): 9:01pm On May 28, 2015
In pursuance of the primary objective of saving our great nation from total collapse, I, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari of the Nigerian army have, after due consultation amongst the services of the armed forces, been formally invested with the authority of the Head of the Federal Military Government and the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is with humility and a deep sense of responsibility that I accept this challenge and call to national duty. As you must have heard in the previous announcement, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1979) has been suspended, except those sections of it which are exempted in the constitution. The change became necessary in order to put an end to the serious economic predicament and the crisis of confidence now afflicting our nation. Consequently, the Nigerian armed forces have constituted themselves into a Federal Military Government comprising of a Supreme Military Council, a National Council of States, a Federal Executive Council at the centre and State Executive Councils to be presided over by military governors in each of the states of the federation. Members of these councils will be announced soon. The last Federal Military Government drew up a programme with the aim of handing over political power to the civilians in 1979. This programme as you all know, was implemented to the letter. The 1979 constitution was promulgated. However, little did the military realise that the political leadership of the second republic will circumvent most of the checks and balances in the constitution and bring the present state of general insecurity. The premium on political power became so exceedingly high that political contestants regarded victory at elections as a matter of life and death struggle and were determined to capture or retain power by all means. It is true that there is a worldwide economic recession. However, in the case of Nigeria, its impact was aggravated by mismanagement. We believe the appropriate government agencies have good advice but the leadership disregarded their advice. The situation could have been avoided if the legislators were alive to their constitutional responsibilities. Instead, the legislators were preoccupied with determining their salary scales, fringe benefit and unnecessary foreign travels, et al, which took no account of the state of the economy and the welfare of the people they represented. As a result of our inability to cultivate financial discipline and prudent management of the economy, we have come to depend largely on internal and external borrowing to execute government projects with attendant domestic pressure and soaring external debts, thus aggravating the propensity of the outgoing civilian administration to mismanage our financial resources. Nigeria was already condemned perpetually with the twin problem of heavy budget deficits and weak balance of payments position, with the prospect of building a virile and viable economy. The last general election was anything but free and fair. The only political parties that could complain of election rigging are those parties that lacked the resources to rig. There is ample evidence that rigging and thuggery were relative to the resources available to the parties. This conclusively proved to us that the parties have not developed confidence in the presidential system of government on which the nation invested so much material and human resources. While corruption and indiscipline have been associated with our state of under-development, these two evils in our body politics have attained unprecedented height in the past few years. The corrupt, inept and insensitive leadership in the last four years has been the source of immorality and impropriety in our society. Since what happens in any society is largely a reflection of the leadership of that society, we deplore corruption in all its facets. This government will not tolerate kick-backs, inflation of contracts and over-invoicing of imports etc. Nor will it condone forgery, fraud, embezzlement, misuse and abuse of office and illegal dealings in foreign exchange and smuggling. Arson has been used to cover up fraudulent acts in public institutions. I am referring to the fire incidents that gutted the P&T buildings in Lagos, the Anambra State Broadcasting Corporation, the Republic Building at Marina, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Capital Development Authority Accounts at Abuja and the NET Building. Most of these fire incidents occurred at a time when Nigerians were being apprehensive of the frequency of fraud scandals and the government incapacity to deal with them. Corruption has become so pervasive and intractable that a whole ministry has been created to stem it. Fellow Nigerians, this indeed is the moment of truth. My colleagues and I – the Supreme Military Council, must be frank enough to acknowledge the fact that at the moment, an accurate picture of the financial position is yet to be determined. We have no doubt that the situation is bad enough. In spite of all this, every effort will be made to ensure that the difficult and degrading conditions under which we are living are eliminated. Let no one however be deceived that workers who have not received their salaries in the past eight or so months will receive such salaries within today or tomorrow or that hospitals which have been without drugs for months will be provided with enough immediately. We are determined that with the help of God we shall do our best to settle genuine payments to which government is committed, including backlog of workers’ salaries after scrutiny. We are confident and we assure you that even in the face of the global recession, and the seemingly gloomy financial future, given prudent management of Nigeria’s existing financial resources and our determination to substantially reduce and eventually nail down rises in budgetary deficits and weak balance of payments position. The Federal Military Government will reappraise policies with a view to paying greater attention to the following areas: The economy will be given a new impetus and better sense of direction. Corrupt officials and their agents will be brought to book. In view of the drought that affected most parts of the country, the federal government will, with the available resources, import food stuffs to supplement the shortfalls suffered in the last harvest. Our foreign policy will both be dynamic and realistic. Africa will of course continue to be the centre piece of our foreign policy. The morale and combat readiness of the armed forces will be given high priority.
Officers and men with high personal and professional integrity will have nothing to fear. The Chief Justice of Nigeria and all other holders of judiciary appointments within the federation can continue in their appointments and the judiciary shall continue to function under existing laws subject to such exceptions as may be decreed from time to time by the Federal Military Government. All holders of appointments in the civil service, the police and the National Security Organisation shall continue to exercise their functions in the normal way subject to changes that may be introduced by the Federal Military Government. All those chairmen and members of statutory corporations, parastatals and other executive departments are hereby relieved of their appointments with immediate effect. The Federal Military Government will maintain and strengthen existing diplomatic relations with other states and with international organisations and institutions such as the Organisation of African Unity, the United Nations and its organs, Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, ECOWAS and the Commonwealth etc. The Federal Military Government will honour and respect all treaties and obligations entered into by the previous government and we hope that such nations and bodies will reciprocate this gesture by respecting our country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Fellow Nigerians, finally, we have dutifully intervened to save this nation from imminent collapse. We therefore expect all Nigerians, including those who participated directly or indirectly in bringing the nation to this present predicament, to cooperate with us. This generation of Nigerians, and indeed future generations, have no country other than Nigeria.
We shall remain here and salvage it together. May God bless us all. Good morning.

Family10 Ways To Detect A Liar by simplemyk(op): 2:52pm On Feb 08, 2015
Darren Stanton is known as The Human Lie Detector. He is one of the world’s leading body language experts, and is a master of uncovering deception. Here are his 10 things to look out for to tell if your partner is lying to you… 1. There’s no eye contact For the most part, people are uncomfortable when it comes to deceit. These persons will be bad liars and will not be able to look you in the eye. They will use tactics such as touching their eyes, yawning or simply keeping their back to you. 2. There’s too much eye contact Unfortunately, there are those people who are comfortable with lying, however, they are just as easy to spot. These tricksters will overcompensate and maintain eye contact for too long as if determined to convince you that they are telling the truth. If they hold eye contact with you for more than six seconds, alarm bells should start to ring. 3. Where they’re looking It is a little known but useful fact that when right-handed people are lying they will look right and when left-handed people fib they will look left. 4. What they’re actually saying Mimicking is often one of the key tell tale signs that someone is being deceitful. When a liar is put on the spot he or she will have very little time to plan a response, therefore they resort to mimicking the language of their accuser. For instance, if a truthful person were asked ‘are you cheating on me?’ they would respond with a simple ‘no’ where as a liar would mimic and say ‘no I’m not cheating on you’. 5. How they’re standing Crossed ankles and arms are key indicators of someone who is lying to you. However, many people are aware of this trait and will try and over-compensate by being overtly open with their body language. Similarly, liars tend to position themselves at right angles to the person to whom they are telling a lie. Also when it comes to spotting a female fibber, their biggest giveaway is blushing.

6. Hand movements We pick up many of our habits when we are children. When children fib they, generally speaking, cover their mouth or touch their face. When it comes to adults, any type of hand gesture that revolves around the upper body, chest or face, such as rubbing their nose or scratching their head indicates deceit. Also if someone is holding an object, as they lie they will tighten their grip and hold it closer to their body. By doing this they are creating a subconscious barrier to hide behind.

7. Their lip colour (yep) If their lips are pale and their face is either bright red or as white as a ghost, this can be a key sign that they are lying to you. The origins of this stem from the body’s natural fight or flight instinct in times of pressure.

8. A twitch, but not as you know it Liars often twitch when they are being untruthful. If recognised this can be one of the easiest giveaways to identify. Sometimes it can be a particularly long blink, or it could be a tiny muscle in the cheek or neck. Men in particular have an area at the bottom of their nose that twitches when they are fibbing.

9. Sweaty palms As a general rule of thumb, we sweat more when we are lying and in particular on the palms of our hands. If you suspect someone of lying, shake their hand, if it is dripping with sweat the chances are that you have just been lied to.
10. Sarcasm Liars will have very little time to continue fabricating their story if questioned about it. Therefore using sarcasm is one of the ways they bluff. If you are getting sarcastic answers to your questions then you are most likely being the victim of a liar.

SportsKeshi Returns As Coach Of Super Eagles, Resumes Work by simplemyk(op): 10:43am On Oct 28, 2014
Chris Giwa, the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Chairman who was restored to office on Thursday by a Jos court ruling, said on Monday that sacked coach of the national team, Stephen Keshi will resume work with the team today. Giwa who spoke to newsmen before the inauguration of interim committees at the NFA secretariat in Abuja urged all Nigerians to remain calm while the issues surrounding the NFA family crisis and the much-touted looming FIFA ban were resolved. Giwa reiterated that his board had reviewed and decided to sustain the out-of-contract assignment given to the technical crew of the Super Eagles led by Stephen Keshi. “It was agreed at our board meeting held Thursday that the technical crew headed by Keshi should remain in charge. “The issue of qualification to AFCON 2015 is not about Keshi. Therefore, all he needs now is support from all of us. “We have two more games left in the qualifiers and if you are telling someone who has started a process to go now when he has just two more games left to play, I don’t think it is right. “I don’t think whoever is coming in will have anything meaningful to contribute more than what is already on ground. “So, all we need now is to rally round our brother Keshi and pray that God will bless the team with victory in their two remaining matches. “I have spoken to Keshi and, by the grace of God, by Tuesday or Wednesday he should resume his normal duties as the coach of our national team,” he said.

Nairaland GeneralSTRANGE: Woman Presents ‘holy Spirit’ As Collateral For Bank Loan. by simplemyk(op): 2:58pm On Sep 15, 2014
There was drama last Friday in one of the microfinance banks (name withheld), located in one of the major cities of Delta, when a middle-aged woman approached one of the bank’s officials at the counter for a loan of N1.5million. Willing to give the loan to the woman, the official brought out a form, apparently meant for customers who demand such facilities.
While she filling the form, she wrote the name of her 12-year-old son as surety and also wrote that she was ready to give the Holy Spirit as collateral. Surprised by what the woman wrote, the official took the form to his boss to seek his advice, and the woman was invited to the office of the boss.
When she got there, she was asked to explain what she meant by the ‘Holy Spirit’ she wrote as her collateral, and her 12- year- old son as surety. Her response was, “Don’t you know the Holy Spirit or are you not a Christian? Do you want me to write the name of ordinary mortal that will disappoint the bank? No, the Holy Spirit is my collateral because He does not lie, and He cannot fail. So, please let me have the loan.”
All efforts to make the woman realise that it was not possible to make the Holy Spirit her collateral fell on deaf ears, and at a point, she got angry and told them: “Since you don’t want to give me this loan, you wait for me and see what the Holy Spirit will do. You must give the loan to me”, she boasted and walked away.
Two days later, the woman reportedly returned with the wife of the chairman, board of directors of the bank, who shouted and banged on the table and asking: “Where is that disrespectful officer who refused to honour my request that this woman be given a loan. This is indiscipline and an act of insubordination. Bring him out; if you can’t respect the wife of the chairman of the bank’s board of directors, who else will you respect?” she asked.

PoliticsBoko Haram: Nigerian Negotiator Debunks Stephen Davis Claims by simplemyk(op): 10:39pm On Sep 07, 2014
A Nigerian negotiator has said that Davis didn’t speak with real
Boko Haram leaders. The negotiator
claimed, yesterday, that Sheriff and
Ihejirika could not have been Boko
Haram sponsors as the two men were actually sworn enemies of the Islamist group.

The negotiator, who didn’t want to be named for security reasons, said that neither Sherrif nor Ihejirika was a sponsor of the sect. The source, who has been assisting the government to find a lasting
solution to the insurgency in the
North-east, pointed out that Sheriff
was even one of the three most
wanted enemies of the sect. He did not say who the other two were.

“The statement credited to advise that Sherriff and Ihejirika are sponsors of Boko Haram is far from the truth because, as at today, the former Borno governor remains one of the three worst enemies of Boko Haram”, he stated. “I can tell you that the group has not forgiven Sheriff over the killing of its
leader, Mohammed Yusuf, who was
arrested and killed during his tenure
as governor”.

Confirming the claim by Davis that he was not hired by the Nigerian
government to broker peace with the sect, the source said that the
Australian came on his own to secure the release of the Chibok girls. He said that while in Nigeria, Davis never met the real commanders of Boko Haram but depended on information from a member of the Presidential Committee on Dialogue
and Amnesty for information on the activities of the sect.

The source blamed what is now
playing out on the issue of Boko
Haram sponsorship on the information given to Davis by the member of the presidential committee. He said,”We can say with all amount of seriousness that Davis did not meet the leadership and main commanders of Boko Haram during his visit to the North-east. If Davis insists that he met
with any senior commander or leader of the sect, we challenge him to mention their names and ranks”.

EventsIntending Couple Shot Dead On The Eve Of Their Wedding by simplemyk(op): 1:32pm On Sep 07, 2014
A man and woman set to be joined in holy matrimony in Enugu were,
yesterday, shot dead by gunmen
suspected to be cult members. Three other persons including the
manager of a filling station were shot dead during the sporadic shooting by the unknown assailants who had laid siege on Abakpa and Trans-Ekulu area of Enugu, according to report from Vanguard.
The incident occurred Friday night at a filling station close to Dhamija Bridge opposite Our Lord’s Chosen Church, Trans-Ekulu on the Enugu – Onitsha Expressway.

It was gathered that the
gunmen trailed the couple, who were finalizing arrangements for their wedding yesterday, to the filling station where they were said to be buying fuel. The gunmen were said to have, on arrival at the station, shot sporadically at the bride and groom who were in their car buying fuel and they reportedly died on the spot. The manager of the filling station, a pump attendant and another person buying fuel at the time were also shot dead by the gunmen who immediately
thereafter fled in their waiting vehicle.

Enugu State Police Public Relations
Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident when contacted yesterday.
“There was an incident that led to the death of some people following sporadic shooting by suspected
hoodlums before the arrival of
security operatives and we have put measures on ground to unmask
them,” he said.
RomanceMan Divorces Wife Because Of Too Much Sex by simplemyk(op): 1:20pm On Sep 07, 2014
We’ve heard of people divorcing over a sexless marriage, but divorcing over too much sex? You don’t hear that one every day.
Apparently, one man was recently
granted a divorce by a Mumbai family court because he could no longer deal with his wife’s “excessive and insatiable desire for sex.”
According to The Times Of India, the sex-fatigued husband first
approached the court in January,
claiming that his wife was “aggressive, stubborn and autocratic” and that she’d be harassing him for sex since they married in April 2012. The man told the court his wife forced
medication on him to boast his sexual stamina and threatened to hook up with other men if she remained unfulfilled. Things got so bad, the husband had to be hospitalized for an uneasy stomach at one point.
In the end, the wife failed to appear
before the court, so the divorce was
granted.
(Meanwhile, we couldn’t be
happier for the poor, put-upon
husband. May he go on to have as little— or as much — non-chore-like, consensual sex as he’d like.)

EducationGet Inspired: Read The Story Of Whatsapp Creator Jan Koum by simplemyk(op): 10:57am On Sep 03, 2014
Jan Koum, a Ukranian, went to the US at the age of 16 due to the hostile treatment Jews were receiving in the country. When they arrived in the US, Jan and his mother lived on food stamps. He met Brian Acton in 1997 at Yahoo, where they were both working and they became friends. By 2007, the two of them men had become disillusioned and they left Yahoo to seek new challenges.

Koum founded WhatsApp in 2009 after he had been turned down by Facebook and was joined by Acton who had also been turned down by Twitter and Facebook. They created a project that allowed them to concentrate on creating an easy-to-use messaging product and the approach paid off. WhatsApp amassed 450 million monthly users. Their idea was that smart phone users should be able to easily message each other without incurring fees from phone carriers. They refused to advertise their product and only relied on the recommendations of users of the product. In 2014, Facebook decided to purchase WhatsApp for a whooping 19 billion dollars!

Lessons from Jan Koum’s (and Brian Acton’s) story: Your background is not an excuse for failure in life: Jan Koum did menial jobs like cleaning and mopping at a grocery store while his mother took up a babysitting job. At a point in his life, he and his mother depended on allowances from the government. (Jan signed the agreement with Facebook on the door of the social services office where he and his mother used to stand in line to collect food stamps.) Adversity should make you stronger and resilient not break you: Jan learnt computer networking all by himself with the help of manuals from a used book store. He couldn’t afford to pay for lessons but he has become a billionaire today. You can profit from your experience: Jan’s experience in communist Ukraine where phone lines were bugged by secret police greatly influenced his decision to create WhatsApp. He wanted a service that guaranteed messaging privacy. “I grew up in a country where I remember my parents not being able to have a conversation on the phone,” he explained. “The walls had ears and you couldn’t speak freely.” If you find your job unexciting, get out: Jan and Brian became disillusioned with life at Yahoo and they quit. Don’t allow disappointment to overwhelm you: Jan and Brian were turned down for employment by Facebook. Brian was also rejected by Twitter and he took it on the chin. Read this: “Got denied by Twitter HQ. That’s ok. Would have been a long commute.” and this “Facebook turned me down. It was a great opportunity to connect with some fantastic people. Looking forward to life’s next adventure.” Be passion-driven not money-driven: Jan wanted to create a product that would meet a need, and when this product filled the need, money came. Today he is a billionaire. Money was not his primary motivation. He says he just wanted to build a great product. “I started WhatsApp, to build a product. I do not want to create a company around it, the goal was not to earn. We wanted to spend our time building a service people wanted to use because it worked and saved them money and made their lives better in a small way.” He tweeted in 2012 that he was not an entrepreneur: “Next person to call me an entrepreneur is getting punched in the face by my bodyguard, seriously.”

A good product will advertise itself: WhatsApp has a ‘no ads’ policy. The company refuses to be involved in promotions, marketing and advertising and it has over 450 million active users, reaching the number faster than any other company in history. This is what WhatsApp says about advertising, “No one wakes up excited to see more advertising, no one goes to sleep thinking about the ads they’ll see tomorrow. We know people go to sleep excited about who they chatted with that day (and disappointed about who they didn’t). We want WhatsApp to be the product that keeps you awake… and that you reach for in the morning. No one jumps up from a nap and runs to see an advertisement.” Jan’s is an inspirational story that yet again proves that as long as you refuse to give up but continue to look for a way out, you will eventually have your big break.

merije, nkechi nwaogu , E.T.C, Arthor Eze is waiting for your answers, shame on you governor TA orji, Abia is worst than stinking.
PoliticsBillionaire Arthur Eze humiliates T.A orji, says Abia Stinks by simplemyk(op):
Shocks guests at 23rd anniversary of creation of state

It was a bad day for Gov. T.A Orji
as he assembled a battery of
illustrious personalities to
celebrate the 23rd anniversary
of the creation of Abia State in
Umuahia last Wednesday. Rather than effusive praises,
what came the way of the
governor were censure and
excoriation from no less a
person than multi-billionaire,
Chief Arthur Eze, who told the gathering dead pan: “Abia State
stinks.” He then dropped the
microphone, and walked out.

Venue was the Michael Okpara
Auditorium in Umuahia, where
the governor had gathered
illustrious citizens of the state,
some of whom were to be given
awards to mark the 23rd anniversary.

In the sessions of comments
that preceded the awards
ceremony, Chief Eze was
recognized to speak. But what
he said sent cold chill running
down the spines of majority of the people, particularly the
governor.

“Abia is stinking,” Eze, believed
to have the largest oil bloc in
Africa, bellowed. The audience
was stupefied in shock, but
more was to come. “Right from the Abia Tower in
Umuahia, the rot hits you,” the
oil magnate continued. “Abia
State is now the dirtiest in the
country. Garbage everywhere,
along with bad roads. The people are really suffering, and
you see it in their faces. Are
there no elders in Abia again? If
so, what are they doing? What
are the senators, the members
of House of Representatives, and other elected people
doing? Nothing.”

Then, pointedly, Chief Eze told
the governor: “If you do not
know what to do again, please
write to President Goodluck
Jonathan, and let him come to
your aid. Abia State needs help.” Having given the gathering a
piece of his mind, Eze dropped
the microphone on the floor,
and walked out.

It was a dazed Gov Orji who
jerked himself out of stupor,
and tried to rationalize what
Arthur Eze had said. He said the
man was referring to the
collapsed Port Harcourt to Aba Expressway, which was a
federal road. But the explanation sounded hollow to the governor himself, and after some time, he left the venue of the ceremony, without
taking questions from journalists, as such occasion would have demanded.

Confirming the story to Daily
Sun, an associate of Chief Eze,
said the state of Abia State was
really dispiriting, with decay and
despondency everywhere. ” I
am sure most of the dignitaries quietly agreed with Chief Eze,
only that they could not do so
openly. One must commend
Chief Eze’s courage for being
bold enough to speak out. Not
many people can do so today. In Abia State today, there is the
son of one of the elected
officials, called The Wind, who is
like terror. He silences all
opposition, and deals ruthlessly
with anyone in opposition to the government. So, not many
people can speak out. But we
must commend Chief Eze for his
boldness and conviction.” Among dignitaries at the Abia
anniversary event were Austin
Akobundu, vice chairman of the
Peoples Democratic Party in the
South-East, who was to receive
an award, immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Gen Azubuike
Ihejirika, PDP chairman in Abia
State, Emmanuel Nwaka, party
chieftains, and others.
