Politics › Re: Igbo Presidency: We'll Support Ndigbo In South-south, North Central — Ohaneze by Simplyleo: 10:00pm On Mar 04, 2021 |
[s] Metrix147: As the demand for Igbo Presidency in 2023 continues to gain momentum, Ohaneze Youth Council, the youth wings of Ohaneze Ndigbo has said the contest is not only limited to Ndigbo in South East alone but open for Ndigbo on South-South and North Central, saying the body will spread their support and recognize those regions as Igbo.
The council in a statement signed by Chukwuemeka Chimerue, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the National President, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka took a swipe at those saying that the quest for Igbo Presidency should be limited to South East zone alone, saying they lack a sense of history.
According to the statement, Comrade Igboayaka's position was made known in Enugu on Thursday, March 4, 2021, after a stakeholders’ meeting.
The release read in part, "Speaking with newsmen after the meeting, the National President of the Council, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka noted that it was the turn of Ndigbo to aspire and become the number one citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, stressing that those talking about limiting the collective aspiration of Ndigbo to only include the Southeast lack common sense of history and are agents of divide and rule against the Igbo unity.
"He stated that Ohanaeze Youth Council(OYC) are a new generation of Igbo extraction that have discovered that artificial state creation and geopolitical zones in Nigeria has caused greater harm than good to the Igbo race and the unity they desire.
"Igboayaka noted that states and geo-political zone creations are concepts of balkanization of the Igbo nation, adding that Igbos are originally occupying 13 states in the South-South, Southeast, and North Central Nigeria.
"He decried the harm of state creation against Ndigbo, recalling that in 1976, state creation divided Ndoki people into three wherein two communities was ceded to Rivers state and one to Abia state while another community was ceded to Akwa Ibom."
“Today, the culture and brotherhood of great Ndoki clan have been balkanized, but Ohanaeze Youth Council will not stand by and let this conspiracy to continue... We must earnestly unify the Igbo race for economic and political advancement. Therefore, any person from Abia, Rivers and Akwa Ibom have the equal right to vie for the president of Nigeria in 2023,” Igboayaka stated.
The youth leader revealed that Umuine Igbodo in Etche LGA of Rivers State and Umuezeala, Okpala of Ngor Okpala in Imo state are of the same ancestral fathers, but today Umuine Igbodo is located in South-South while Okpala is in Southeast, saying that therefore, Igbos in the South-South, Southeast and North Central shall have the support of Ohanaeze Youth Council(OYC) to vie for Nigeria’s Presidency in 2023.
“All the communities of Igbo Land, Abia, Anambra, Awka Ibom, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Enugu, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Kogi, Imo, Rivers and Benue are qualified for Nigeria President of Igbo extraction in 2023,” Comrade Igboayaka added.
Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka appealed to all patriotic and progressive Igbo men and women with sense of history to embrace Igbo unification to actualize Nigeria’s president of Igbo extraction come 2023, by adopting the Igbo concept of “Igwe Bu Ike” and “Onye Aghala Nwanne Ya”.

Politics › Re: Food Blockade.. Count Us Out.( SE Myetti Allah Leader) by Simplyleo: 4:08pm On Mar 04, 2021 |
[s] oilPUSSY: Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), South East zone, Alh. Gidado Sidikki has disassociated his members from the plan to impose blockade against supply of food items from the Northern part of the country to the South by the Amalgamated Union of Food and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria. The MACABAN leader told LEADERSHIP in an exclusive interview yesterday in Awka, Anambra state that members of his association should be counted out of the action. He rather stated that the food dealers’ association leadership earlier wrote a letter to his group inviting them to join in the protest explaining that the planned food items blockade was to protest against incessant killings and destructions of their members’ properties in various part of the country but that his association did not accept the invitation. He, however, urged governments at all levels to dialogue with the foodstuff dealers association to find out their grievances, assuage them, and, persuade them to call off the action for the sake of the poor. The MACABAN leader described any imposition of blockade against food supply from any part of the country to the other as inhuman and counterproductive to the growth of national economy. He reacted to the order by the governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano on Monday during which the governor directed the security agencies to treat any herdsman found carrying an AK-47 gun as “criminal” saying that the governor’s order has the full backing of his association. Governor Obiano had during the security meeting which was even attended by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, and heads of all security agencies in the state, including the police, Directorate of State Security Services (SSS), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Army, FRSC and other stakeholders -traditional rulers, state vigilante groups, leaderships of town unions ordered that any herdsman found carrying an AK-47 should be treated as a “criminal ” adding that fresh census of all bonafide herdsmen operating in the state should be conducted, and locations of their operations noted. In his reaction, the South East zonal chairman of Miyetti Allah stated that the governor’s directive was in line with the agreement already reached between the governors of the South East states and his association that any herder found with a gun should be treated as a criminal. He said that the leadership of Miyetti Allah in the South East zone under his watch, do screen prospective cattle herder who come into the region before such person would be allow to graze. “My members have been having good relationship with their host communities, in spite of some isolated cases of misunderstanding, which is normal in every human existence” “Our interest in the zone is purely economic” he said, insisting that no herder was interested in contesting the ownership of land with members of their host communities. He however pleaded with members of host communities not to latch on the governor’s order and begin to kill his members, rustle their cattle or destroy their properties on trump up allegations that they were found carrying guns Though he commend the efforts of governments in the South east zone for securing the area against banditry, Sidikki, however, stated that much still needed to be done to ensure that law-abiding citizens, including herders were free to carry out their businesses without hindrance in order to make life better for every Nigerian.

Health › Re: Nigeria Receives Nearly 4 Million Vaccines From COVAX by Simplyleo: 7:22am On Mar 04, 2021 |
PaulWake: DAKAR, Senegal — Nearly 4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have arrived in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, the third and largest delivery so far to an African country by the global COVAX initiative, which was created to ensure that low- and middle-income countries have fair access to vaccines. The COVAX program shipped 3.94 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India, from Mumbai to Abuja, according to a joint statement from UNICEF, which is working in partnership with the World Health Organization, GAVI, which is an international vaccine alliance, and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations. Nigeria is Africa’s most populous nation, with more than 200 million residents, and it recently experienced a surge of COVID-19 cases. As of Tuesday the West African nation has recorded a cumulative total of 156,017 cases, including 1,915 deaths. Tuesday’s delivery is part of a first wave of vaccines arriving in Nigeria that will continue in the coming days and weeks, the statement said. “After a year of disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, today we celebrate the efforts being made in getting the vaccine to Nigeria. With more than 150,000 Nigerians infected with the virus and over 1,800 lives lost, the path to recovery for the people of Nigeria can finally begin,” said Peter Hawkins, UNICEF Nigeria Country Representative. “This is a very significant occasion -- the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccines into Nigeria is critical in curbing the pandemic. The only way out of this crisis is to ensure that vaccinations are available to all.” The COVAX program is expected to deliver around 90 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Africa in the first quarter of 2021, in the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation in history, according to the World Health Organization and UNICEF. Nigeria is among 92 countries worldwide that will receive vaccines for free through the COVAX initiative. Another 90 countries and eight territories have agreed to pay for doses. The COVAX initiative, however, has been hampered by the severely limited global supply of doses as well as logistical problems that delayed the global distribution of the vaccines. The long-awaited program has fallen short of hopes it would quickly ensure vaccines to the world’s most vulnerable people. Ghana begins its vaccination campaign Tuesday, after being the first country to receive COVAX vaccines last week with a delivery of 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Its inoculation campaign from March 2 to 15 will take place in 43 districts that are the epicenter of the pandemic there. Ivory Coast, which received 504,000 doses last week, began giving shots Monday in the commercial capital Abidjan. “This is a landmark moment for the country and the COVAX facility’s mission to help end the acute phase of the pandemic by enabling equitable access to these vaccines across the world. We are glad to see Nigeria is amongst the first receiving the doses from COVAX,” said Thabani Maphosa, managing director for country programs at Gavi, the vaccine alliance. Doesn't really make any difference for third world countries like Nigeria. No free lunch anywhere, even in heaven.
Its electric energy is still remotely from fossil fuel.
Yes, it uses bank of batteries, but how do you charge those batteries? And pls, no illiterate should start telling me the alternator will do that job. The bulk of the electric energy goes into propulsion and very little is left to charge which is grossly insignificant.
To charge the battery, you need electricity and how do you get electricity? Dams? A big joke. Solar? Another big joke. Wind? A bigger joke.
Countries with nuclear power stations are the only beneficiaries because electricity is almost free.
But for countries like Nigeria, no significant difference. Most of our power stations are gas or diesel driven. |
Politics › Re: President Of Igbo Extraction Possible In 2023 – Prof. Ibe by Simplyleo: 9:46am On Mar 03, 2021 |
[s] Metrix147: The Chancellor of Gregory University, a privately owned University, in Uturu, Isuikwuato LGA of Abia State, Professor Gregory Iyke Ibe has said that having a Nigerian president of South East extraction is very achievable in 2023, if only the South Easterners will be able to put their houses in order and work from one front. Ibe spoke on various political and social issues that concern the wellbeing of the South East Zone among others.
Nigerian President of South East Extraction seems to be the latest issue in Nigerian political front burner. Do you think this project is achievable?
It is achievable if only the Igbo can put their house in order. I, as a South Easterner have been making various efforts to achieve that goal both in Abuja and other parts of the country for my people to be given support by non-South Easterners and non- Igbo people. I started the move in March 2019; nobody then was talking about Igbo presidency, but I spent my personal money and time to see to it that we would get support in getting a Nigerian president of South East extraction. It was after March that people started talking about it. The challenge we have now is that the rate of disunity and distrust among Igbo brethren is very high. The Igbo as a tribe and South Easterners as a people have all what it takes to lead the country to greater heights, but my fear is whether we as brothers can come together and work from a common front. Past experiences taught us that some of our brethren would know that they don’t have what it takes to be Nigerian President, yet they would come into the contest, just to create problem for those who are qualified to be in the race.
But looking at the number of states in the South-East Zone, we don’t have the same number like other zones, don’t you think that this can affect our chances?
If we do the right lobbying, nothing is impossible. Politics is about people and relationships. If we put our house in order and do the right lobbying, we are as good as being at the presidency. It is about trust; you cannot give power to somebody you did not trust, there has to be trusted, before people can give you support.
I talked about South East not having the same number of states like other zones, don’t you think that it would have been an added advantage?
I personally campaigned for that, to make South East Zone six states to be at par with others, so that it will have the same number with other zones, but some selfish Igbo leaders, out of personal interests, aborted the plan. I secured an appointment with President Buhari for an additional state and he granted it. I reported this development to Imeobi, Ohanaeze, they didn’t believe me. Nonetheless, when a delegation was set up to meet Buhari over the issue, I was sidetracked, I was not included in that delegation. Whatever made them to behave that way is still surprising to me. I am sure that some of them would have said this small boy, how can we ride behind him for this venture, but they forgot that it was that small boy that secured the appointment.
Many agitations are arising from different quarters as to why the South East is not included in the plan for the recent railway master plan that traversed the entire country. What is your reaction to that?
On that issue of non-inclusion of the South East in the master plan of the railway line, the governors of South East are to blame. They were not assertive in their request for the inclusion of the South East zone in the railway master plan. I am a World Bank consultant on transportation, the initial design for the rail line project crisscrossed the length and breadth of the South East. This thing has remained a burning issue in the minds of citizens of the zone because of its of great economic importance to the people of South East, and it has caused anxiety as to whether the zone has been abandoned in this all-important project. But that project may have been abandoned by those who are executing it for reasons I may not be in a position to give now. However, there is an assurance that work on the existing old Port Harcourt-Enugu-Maiduguri rail line will begin soon. The reason why I mentioned that the governors of the South East should be blamed is that despite the fact that they were briefed on what to do to get the zone included in the Chinese loan for the building of rail lines across the federation, they failed to do anything to get the zone included in the loan. Then, they were told to have a meeting with the President, requesting to be included in the loan that would be obtained for that purpose, but they didn’t go for that meeting. That explained the reason why South East was not included in the planned project. However, there are still plans for the rehabilitation of the existing rail line that runs from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri, passing many cities in the Igbo land, it is still on and will soon commence.
We were meant to understand that it was former President Obasanjo’s administration that designed that rail line project, at what point did things go wrong?
The administration of former president Olusegun Obasanjo actually designed the rail line, in such a way that it covered all parts of Nigeria, and if they had done anything different when he was in power, he would have asked them to go back to the drawing board and ensure that every part is included, but how it turned out otherwise is not known to me. It may have been as a result of the governors’ refusal to attend the meeting for the Chinese loan that would be used to execute the project. If you truly know Obasanjo, he is a patriotic leader who takes decisions that are reflective of Nigeria, irrespective of whose ox is gored, but a lot of people misunderstand him.
