Lol
Adelabu completely destroyed what was left of the power sector..
I doubt presently if the national grid has the capacity to distribute 2000MW of electricity..
Adelabu keep giving Nigerian excuses, some of his excuses lately for poor power supply are:
1. Maintenance 2. Damage of infrastructure 3. Weather 4. No gas supply 5. Upgrade.....Which is to last for about 122 days approximately 4 months..
Infact I learnt from a credible source that those in charge of the power sector don't know what they are doing and the darkness is likely to last for years. |

Politics › Re: Power Crisis: Blackout Wreaks Havoc by sirblend: 8:33pm On Mar 14 |
SmartPolician: Nigeria has several bands - A,B, C and others. These bands enjoy subsidies, except A which is why the band is very expensive but enjoys steady power.
As a result, Discos only pay 30% of the power gencos supply to them, while the FG is expected to take care of the 70% because the FG pays the subsidies on the other bands.
Unfortunately, the FG doesn't pay it, leading to a huge debt that runs into 3 trillion since 2013. Because gencos don't have enough money to pay gas suppliers, gas suppliers have decided to slash gas supply to gencos.
Now, the entire country is in darkness because gas-fired power stations are our major sources of electricity now. Only parts of Nigeria that are not connected to the national grid have relatively stable power now. Nairalanda1!!! Always defending government incompetence.. |
Politics › Re: Power Crisis: Blackout Wreaks Havoc by sirblend: 3:39pm On Mar 14 |
SmartPolician: Gas shortage here means that gas companies like Seplat have been supplying gas to energy companies that use gas to give us electricity for several years.
However, those energy companies (gencos) don't generate enough money to pay for the gas it is being supplied. Now, the supplier is owed trillions of naira.
As a result, the supplier slashed gas supply by 40 - 50% until everything they are owed is cleared. That means we will be in darkness for a long time unless the government decides to pay up. Just last week or so NERC/PHCN gave a report of the profit they made.. Why aren't they paying gas suppliers from the profit. |

Why haven't the governors been penalized.. Why is the present minister of power still allowed to preside over the power sector despite his incompetent and ineffectiveness. You and I know that nothing will come out of this grid assessment bla bla bla.. |

nairalanda1: Well, if I was to defend government incompetence,....I would be defending subsides on power, not adovcating for their removal.
Plus, if we wanted a subsidy that would pay for costs, AND pay for expansion and improvement...that would mean that government would have to drop at least 20 trillion naira annually. Ya budget is not up to 60 trillion naira at the moment. For instance you always posted on nairaland that 68% of metered phcn customers bypass their meters which is false. |
Politics › Re: Declining Electricity Output Caused By Lack Of Gas And Generation Shortfalls by sirblend: 3:48pm On Feb 27 |
nairalanda1: The problem is, the money for subsides will come from the 1.9 million barrels per day we produce here in nigeria...which is not enough for a country our size revenue wise, and that is before corruption comes in.
Also, we need something like 10-15 trillion naira annually in new investment for at leasr 5 years before we can see improvement. That is about a quarter of our current budget. And that is for new investment...doesn't cover subsidy or revenues.
That means that if you want subsides, you got to pay through the nose for it....by massive borrowing and more debt.
Also, Ghana and Ivory coast don't have subsides, and as a result have decent power supply. Egypt, that Peter Obi holds up as an example, removed subsides on power. That's our comparison...not India which is relatively wealthy You are always everywhere on nairaland defending governments incompetence. |
