Politics › Re: Unpaid Electricity Bills Now N6tn – Gencos by sirblend: 1:04pm On Feb 19 |
nairalanda1: Cold reason for possible inflation of the bills? Most people are not paying or are not paying enough. So, bills are inflated for consumers who do pay.
(Also, the 'inflated bills' commentary is code for 'electric power should be free of charge'. Let's not lie).
Metering does not solve the billing problem.
As at last year, 68% of metered consumers bypass their meters. There's no concrete evidence that suggests 68% of consumers bypass their meters. Yes I know some consumers by pass their meters but no reasonable humans would believe that 6.8/7 out of 10 or 68 out of 100 consumers by pass their electric meters. |

N SmartPolician: MTN should take a cue from Starlink and deploy satellite technology for internet services. This is 2026 - stop giving APC a reason to take us backwards. MTN has made enough money in Nigeria and Africa to deploy that technology APC can still bribe the satellite engineers and tell them to turn off the network on election day. |

nairalanda1: Yes I was expecting this comment.
In return, I'll have you know that discos need about 10-15 trillion naira in funding yearly to fix the power problem. One trillion does not cut it.
Add the fact that 68% of metered customers bypass the meters and 40% overall don't pay..and that trillion looks like small change
Power minister is incompetent for maintaining price controls on the sector. As ordered by his master. Bro I disagree with you on the 68% of metered customers by passing their meters.... |
Politics › Re: Nigerians Experiencing Significant Drop In Electricity Supply Nationwide by sirblend: 2:44am On Feb 13 |
nairalanda1: No, the cold reason is that it is government policy and the policy of the masses to not pay a cost reflective tarrif for power
To produce a kwh of power costs 230 naira . Or more. Most Nigerians don't pay that.
Add the fact that most Nigerians do not pay at all which leads to discos running at a loss and rejecting power from gencos for the simple fact that they can't pay the gencos.
And then there is corruption, part of it via rip off schemes like estimated billing which is done to keep the discos afloat.
And your government is running away from the problem The fact that most Nigerians don't pay for electricity is not an excuse for the incompetence of the minister of power.. You calmed Nigerians don't pay for electricity yet the power sector keeps recording massive increase in revenue..... https://www.nairaland.com/8544951/discos-revenue-rises-16.5-93.96https://www.nairaland.com/8594408/consumers-pay-1.13-trillion-electricity |

While Nigeria is still in darkness.....
It's clear Nigerians are being extorted because the presidency don't know what's is happening..
Infact in America power generation companies that generate 600MW of electricity make revenue of around $149 million yearly which translates to about N194 billion Naira..
How come transcorp made over N300 billion in revenue?
Nigerians are being extorted by this regime. |

Foreign Affairs › Re: Nigeria Is The Fifth-largest Producer Of Electricity In Africa by sirblend: 2:36pm On Jan 27 |
DrMB: Is Nigeria really an "Energy Giant," or are we just scratching the surface? 🇳🇬⚡️ According to the International Energy Agency, Nigeria is the 5th largest producer of electricity on the continent. Nigeria’s position among Africa’s top five producers is a profound paradox: despite being a "top" generator, defined by chronic energy poverty. While South Africa and Egypt use their massive outputs to sustain industrial economies, Nigeria’s similar total output is diluted by a population of 240 million, leaving the average citizen with 20 times less power than their South African counterparts. This creates a "Giant with Clay Feet" scenario where Nigeria’s grid provides just 170 GWh per million people, a staggering contrast to the 3,522 GWh available in South Africa or the 2,001 GWh in Algeria. If you could solve one part of the energy chain: Generation, Transmission, or Distribution, which would it be? Let’s discuss the future of the grid in the comments! 👇

Many who have never experienced development since they were born are now seeing real infrastructural development.
The cry of neglect and marginalization by the past government leading to them running to other regions will subside now that Tinubu is taking development into their hoods and villages. In the next election they will know performance is not about reeling out figures and regurgitating archaic economic theories.

FreeStuffsNG: And you are in Band D and E and know the 'truth '? Many of you are so dishonest in your feedback that it beggars belief to think of what you really want aside bad for every one.
I know folks in that band and know they pay far less and recieve electricity for certain period of the day and it's constant. I equally know people who protested being moved to band A because they don’t want 24 hour electricity.
Come to my area in Lagos and see what Nigerians are going through..
An area that could boost of up to 20 hours power supply daily presently is not sure of seeing 10 hours of power supply monthly..
Funny thing is this mess started when Adelabu became the minister.
Electricity supply has remarkably improved so much that it's now 24 hour constant for weeks!
Stop this unpatriotic act of running down the country to satisfy your itchy ears for bad news. When government does well, you will not die if you acknowledge it. |
