bentenny: But why haven't some states started building their own independent power plants to serve their states? Several states like Lagos, abia state have started their own and it's already operational! Bayelsa state is about to complete their independent turbine! So why are most state governors not trying to provide electricity for the states through the construction of IPPs esp with the decentralization of electricity to states law? At bolded....Same question I ask myself |

nairalanda1: LOL...we can remove the minister of power, we can even replace the minister of power with Trump or Putin, and the power supply would still be bad because MOST nigerians do not pay a cost reflective tarrif.
I keep saying this, when GSM came to Nigeria, there was no GSM backbone in the country, talkless of internet. All we had was the nitel landline system which was wack already. But because Obasanjo said that GSM companies should be allowed to charge cost reflective tarrifs, and only because of that, many GSM companies made the profit that enabled them to do good service, enjoy home internet and so forth,(Of course, the fact that you cannot use a phone unless you pay some money into it, and even if you want to only recieve calls, the line would be disconnected eventually if NO PAYMENT IS MADE).
Meanwhile power companies came around in 2013. GEJ as many people say was a kind and listening man. But to run government, you also have to be realistic. GEJ finished the privatisation of power, but also brought in price controls, and subsidy. BY 2019, a KwH Of power cost N30 Less than what it took to produce it. NOwadays for most people it costs about N100 Less than what it takes to produce it...unless you are Band A...which are 20% of consumers.
Additionally, all the bad habits we did with NEPA...we brought with disco. Bypassing meter...60% Of people bypass their meters (That is for those who shout that if we meter everyone, they will pay without ceasing! ). Refusing to pay, or underpaying...and even those who pay, most pay the subsidised price, and meanwhile government is strugging to pay the subsidy, because the cost of production is rising, because gas prices are not STATIC.
And what do you expect is the result...
A POWER SECTOR THAT DOES NOT AND CANNOT MAKE ENOUGH OF A PROFIT TO PAY FOR IMPROVEMENTS
Yet. tell people on nairaland this truth...they will call you APC supporter, data boy, Agbero, etc. (Apparently believing a business should make a profit is tantamount to supporting APC...no wonder many businesspeople support APC..Lol..). Or they will call you a liar. Like someone who brought newspaer report saying a disco was punished for overcharging consumers...WHAT THE EFF DO YOU EXPECT? When most consumers ARE NOT PAYING WHAT WOULD BE SUFFICENT TO MAKE A PROFIT....THINGS LIKE RIPPING OFF CONSUMERS WHO DO PAY TO AT LEAST BREAK EVEN HAPPEN.
Yes, your refusal to pay cost reflective tarrifs...is why discos are ripping off consumers. Your government's refusal...yes, TInubu's refusal to enforce cost reflective tarrifs for all, is why discos are ripping off consumers. And the fact discos cannot make a profit is why most of you STILL HAVE TO BUY YOUR OWN POLES AND TRANSFORMER, AND WIRES!
Truth is not accepted in this country, that's why we have bandits disturbing us, and UGM tormenting us, and kidnappers in the forest. Do you have any concrete evidence that Nigerians don't pay for electricity? Moreover the message was meant for the underperforming minister of power.. |

seunjungle1: That minister is very clueless, no light at all here....Karu transmission had to be one of the best transmission in FCT before...now turned to rubbish. That Mr Adebayo Adelabu is not part of Renewed Hope at all... The funny part of it is that he's from my state eyeing next state governor....you know go enter...present representation shows that you have nothing to offer the good people of Oyo State It truly votes count in Nigeria that man would never the governorship election after his abysmal performance as Minister of power |

Nazgul: I honestly thought I was the only one noticing this. Power supply has dropped drastically, and it’s becoming unbearable.
Since this week, we haven’t even had up to 6 hours of electricity in a whole day. It comes briefly, disappears, comes back for a short while, and then goes off again. Sometimes you don’t even know whether to switch appliances on or just forget about it entirely.
What makes it more annoying is the government’s incompetence in handling the power sector. They are very quick to increase electricity tariffs, and push everyone into Band A without their consent, but extremely slow or completely unwilling to provide stable power. We keep paying more for darkness.
Businesses are suffering. People working from home aren't findet funny cos the heat this period is unbearable. Yet, the same government will come out and tell us to be patient.
Patient for how long?
You can’t keep increasing tariffs when supply is getting worse. that’s exploitation. If they can’t guarantee reasonable power supply, the least they can do is stop piling extra costs on citizens who are already overwhelmed.
Electricity is not a luxury, it’s a necessity which every reasonable government should provide for its citizens. When one complain APC supporters and Reno Omokri will tag you as enemies of Nigeria. |

The power supply this time around is really bad The present minister of power wants to become the Governor of Oyo State.. Adedibu or whatever his name is the most under performing Minister in president Tinubu's Cabinet |

The Chinese in collaboration with some northern elites are freely mining the solid mineral resources in Zamfara and you have always indirectly supported them. |

OKOATA: I stay at Elepe and the light isn't like before since the 1 month repair they embarked on then. Honestly, before power was at least stable.... Back then we experience at least 20 hours of power supply daily... I learnt that during the upgrade most of the power supply meant for Ikorodu was redirected to Festac, Isolo and Ikeja. I am on estimated billing and I pay 23k monthly when I presently don't consume up to 3kw/h |
