The purpose of this short piece is just to sensitize most of us that loves jumping into conclusion without trying to have any second thought about anything we read on line. As an ex-corper that once served in auchi polytechnic, I'am living testimony to Dr. Phillipa Idogho giant strides in Auchi poly. I read a comment about the recent protest, the person said the lecturers behind the protest are auchi indigenes. The person is very right!! One thing about the rector is her hatred for tribalism, she so much believes in people that can do the job irrespective of where they come from, there was a time that 4 out of the 6 H.O.D's in school of engineering were yorubas, infact the department of Agric Engineering is like a mini yoruba community. The rector believes so much in hardwork and she hate lawlessness. To my own understanding, she has tried enough for auchi people, during my time in the institution, I met some lecturers that I wondered how on earth those people became lecturers, most of them are just applying for their masters degree, no seminar attended, no journals, no online publications etc...funny enough those lecturers are auchi people, most of them even beef any intelligent corper posted to their department. so what sort of flexibility do they want again from the woman!! Any auchi indigene lecturer with masters certificate starts boasting as if he's the king of kings! Also 80% of all the non-teaching staff are from auchi. When it comes to development, she performed well, Campus 2 & 3 was developed during her tenure (though I see no need for campus 3) with good structures and equipment. In campus 1 she constructed a new chemical engineering complex, a huge complex behind the school establishment (I don't know the name of the faculty), a big lecture theatre behind the basketball court, new engineering offices, renovation of the school's sport complex etc. Their school fee is very okay and could be paid anytime before exam, cult activities has been reduced, Part-time programme is being managed well, infact she's the main stay of their part-time programme, a new pedestrian bridge at the front of the main gate was commissioned during her tenure, so many things to say about her. Our corper's lodge was like a mini aso rock, we had a standard table for table tennis, badminton court, constant power and water supply, T.V set, home theatre, fridge, freezer, good sleeping foams etc cleaners do come everyday to clean the lodge too. When it comes to corruption, believe me, she's still learning from auchi lecturers, One thing Mama rector will be regretting now is that she never dealt seriously with those corrupt protesting lecturers when she had the privilege. So many terrible atrocities were committed under her watch by those protesting lectures, I guess she just kept mute for the sake of peace, not to even talk of high level of extortion from students by those lecturers!! There is something the students call "BLOCKING", its a way of meeting up with lecturers monetary demand in other to obtain good marks! Even some lecturers do assign some class representative in helping them to collect blocking money. Its a very rampant thing in auchi polytechnic, you'll see young lecturers riding good cars, building huge hostels, where is the money gotten from ? BLOCKING!!. There is an adage that says "you can't walk without your head not moving" I think she goofed in the aspect of de-migrating the school lectures level which led to deduction from their salaries, though I don't know the reasons behind it, but I heard it was because the school was broke. But to be sincere, mama Rector has tried her best, if I meet the pretty hardworking rector anywhere in the planet I'll prostrate and greet her. Let me now say this, I heard an auchi man is planing to take over, if the man is not a knowledgeable person and has a strong affinity for tribalism, the school will eventually turn to a museum. Just give it some time. THANK YOU!!
