Buhari ‘ll lead action against Boko Haram –Osinbajo 1 By Our Reporter on January 27, 2015 COVER, Politics • Reveals how APC-led government will tackle unemployment, insecurity, corruption From FRED ITUA, Abuja Vice presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has assured Nigerians that General Muhammadu Buhari will lead the military to the North-east to fight the Boko Haram sect as the Commander-In-Chief if voted into office as president. Prof. Osinbajo who spoke in Abuja yesterday during a town-hall meeting with Act Now Professionals, said as president, the Commander-In-Chief must lead by example. He lampooned President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of reneging on his promise to protect Nigerians. He told the gathering how the Buhari-led government would end the insurgency in the country. He equally revealed how the APC-led government would rescue the abducted Chibok girls, equip the military and give the country a sense of direction. He said: “I think that the major problem with the question of security is again that it was not prioritised by this government. It was not taken seriously enough from the beginning. When you have such a situation, you do not politicise the insurgency like that. You do not point to the opposition and say it was the opposition that is sponsoring it until General Buhari almost lost his life when Boko haram attacked him. “We must start by understanding that there is a war going on in that part of the country and what the government needs to do is to get the nation behind it, not pointing fingers at the wrong places. “Secondly, we need to look at the whole question of funding and equipping the military. The military at the moment is not equipped. I worked with Femi Falana on the mutiny of some solders and what is the complain of those soldiers who are charged for mutiny? Their complain is that they were not given equipment and they want them to go to battle. So, how do you say that? How does anybody think that you can fight the insurgency without ammunitions? “The first priority is security and to question what has gone wrong in the military. Then funding the military adequately and ensuring that the Commander-In-Chief leads from the front. But when he was Commander-In-Chief, Buhari led from the front as a solider. You cannot lead from the back. You cannot fail to go to where the insurgency is taking place and that is what Buhari has been saying.” Speaking on corruption, Osinbajo revealed that there would be severe consequences for those engaged in looting public treasury. He said APC will run a transparent government, where public officials would be accountable to the people. Prof. Osinbajo said creation of jobs for the country’s teaming youth is one of the major agenda of APC if elected into office. “Jobs and creation of employment opportunities have been major issues in the manifesto of the APC,” Osinbajo said. He re-echoed the party’s earlier promise that the Buhari-led government will place jobless and poor Nigerians on monthly stipends of N5,000 and N7,000 respectively. “The idea is to take 2.5 million people out of poverty every year,” he re-echoed. He stated further: “We will give free healthcare to children. We would follow the example of Osun state where such has been done successfully. “ |

Yoruba Leaders says they regret voting Buhari Jun 28, 2015Featured, POLITICS0 Comments Yoruba Leaders says they regret voting Buhari Share this on WhatsApp Some South-West leaders are currently biting their fingers in regret over voting President Muhammadu Buhari into office. The zone is particularly angry with the President, who is the leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for tolerating the outcome of National Assembly leadership election, which did not favour the region.Buhari’s silence according to them is a serious indication that the zone, which queued behind him to ensure victory at the recent polls, may benefit little or nothing from the administration. “For the fact that the South-West played a key role in the emergence of Buhari as the President, it is expected that they would occupy a more strategic position than the post of vice president”, said one of the leaders. They argued that the National Assembly leadership election, which eventually placed the North Central geopolitical zone as a powerful force in the country’s power equation through the emergence of former Kwara governor, Bukola Saraki, as Senate President and Yakubu Dogara from the North-East, has depicted the South-West as not only a weak power bloc in the equation. With the power structure now,the South-West as a region has been relegated to the background in the power structure of the country. Some of the leaders of the region who also participated in the last National Conference argue that since the South-West does not hold any substantial position in the current power structure, the region must re-strategise to assert itself in the politics of the nation. They further argued that the position of Vice President, which is presently held by a south westerner, does not place the region as a powerful force. While referring to one of the speeches made by former President Goodluck Jonathan during the campaigns leading up to the 2015 general elections, National Coordinator of Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reform, CODER, Chief Ayo Opadokun, a South-West leader, who spoke to the on the current power imbalance, noted that the Yoruba race made a great mistake by not re-electing the former President, considering what he had in stock for the zone. He emphasised that the implementation of the National Conference report would elevate the standard of the zone, which is the reason people of the South-West should have queued behind Jonathan. “Failure to do this needful may spell doom for the zone as their trust in their forged alliance with North would lead to regret. “Certainly, as the power structure is, there is the need for the Yoruba race to re-strategise on the way they would reassert themselves in the country’s politics and power equation,” Opadokun advised. Also lending his voice on the skewed power structure, image maker of Pro- National Conference, Wale Okunniyi, faulted the emergence of Saraki and Dogara, which he described as a conspiracy against the Yoruba nation by some powerful forces in the APC. He stated further that it was unfortunate that the South-West did not get the speakership of the House of Representative, as the region pushed forward Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila. He condemned Sen. Saraki and Hon. Dogara for not adhering strictly to the party’s position, stressing that the leadership of the Yoruba people need to redirect their plan for the region would benefit in the current state of the country politics. Okunniyi said, “What happened at the National Assembly was a conspiracy against Yoruba nation by some powerful forces in the APC. Although, we hold the Vice President position, we lost the speakership. This calls for total re-strategising by Yoruba leadership so that we can have our way in this current power structure.”However, a prominent South- West leader and lawyer, Asiwaju Bisi Adegbuyi, stressed that as for now the Yoruba race needs self-determination rather than a symbolic representation. “Yoruba race should know what they want. Yoruba made progress when Chief Obafemi Awolowo led us.Also speaking to this paper, a PDP chieftain from the zone, Barrister Olayinka Sanni, put the blame on the selfish interest of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. He said that Tinubu’s selfish interest was pushing the South-West backward. According to him, “the system of leadertakes- all that Tinubu used in Lagos politics gave the undue advantage to Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara as Senate President and Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives. “He derives pleasure from cheating people in public. If they had not conducted the mock election, Femi Gbajabiamila would have won since it would have happened at the same time in both chambers,’’ he noted, adding that going by the trend of things, South-West might be forced to pressurise President Buhari to implement the part of the recommendation of the Confab which would be favorable to them. However, notwithstanding the current leadership positions in the National.Assembly, which the South-West complains about being relegated to the second fiddle, the zone clinched the position of Deputy Speaker Hon. Yusuf Lasun had in spite of the All Progressives Congress endorsement of his opponent Monguno Tahir, polled 203 votes to defeat Tahir, who had 153 votes. Mr. Lasun represents Irepodun, Olorunda, Osogbo Federal Constituency in Osun State. But according to analysts, with the victory of Bukola Saraki as the Senate President and Yakubu Dogara as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the six geopolitical zones appear to have benefitted from power sharing. All the zones, North-West, North- East, North Central, South-West, South- East and South-South are adequately represented at the centre. While Senator Saraki hails from Kwara State, North Central zone, Rep. Dogara is from Bauchi State, North East Nigeria. The same for Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, an indigene of Enugu State in the South-East zone. The Deputy Speaker of the House,Yusuf Lasun, is from Osun State in the South-West. President, Mohammed Buhari is from Katsina State, North-West zone while his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo, hails from Ogun State also in the South-West zone. The South-South is represented in the capacity of John Odigie Oyegun, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the ruling party |

the Yoruba political leadership, as mentioned by Balarabe Musa, has shown itself over the years to be incapable of rising above narrow tribal interests and reciprocating goodwill from other sections of the country by treating other groups with respect. Practically every crisis in Nigeria since independence has its roots in this attitude. •The Yoruba elite and area-boy politics; •Igbo marginalisation and the responsible limits of retribution; and •The Yoruba Factor and "Area-boy" Politics. My views on the Yoruba political leadership have been thoroughly articulated in some of my writings, prime among which was " Afenifere: Syllabus of Errors" published by This Day (The Sunday Newspaper) on Sept 27, 1998. There was also an earlier publication in the weekly Trust entitled " The Igbo, the Yoruba and History" (Aug. 21, 1998). In sum, the Yoruba political leadership, as mentioned by Balarabe Musa, has shown itself over the years to be incapable of rising above narrow tribal interests and reciprocating goodwill from other sections of the country by treating other groups with respect. Practically every crisis in Nigeria since independence has its roots in this attitude. The Yoruba elite were the first, in 1962, to attempt a violent overthrow of an elected government in this country. In 1966, it was the violence in the West which provided an avenue for the putsch of 15th January. After Chief Awolowo lost to Shagari in 1983 elections, it was the discontent and bad publicity in the South-West which led to the Buhari intervention. When Buhari jailed UPN governors like Ige and Onabanjo, the South-Western press castigated that good government and provided the right mood for IBB to take over power. As soon as IBB cleared UPN governors of charges against them in a politically motivated retrial, he became the darling of the South-West. When IBB annulled the primaries in which Adamu Ciroma and Shehu Yar Adua emerged as presidential candidates in the NRC and SDP, he was hailed by the South-West. When the same man annulled the June 12, 1993 elections in which Abiola was the front-runner, the South-West now became defenders of democracy. When it seemed Sani Abacha was sympathetic to Abiola, the South-West supported his take-over. He was in fact invited by a prominent NADECO member to take over in a published letter shortly before the event. Even though Abiola had won the elections in the North, the North was blamed for its annulment. When Abdulsalam Abubakar started his transition, the Yoruba political leadership through NADECO presented a memorandum on a Government of National Unity that showed complete disrespect for the intelligence and liberties of other Nigerians. Subsequently, they formed a tribal party which failed to meet minimum requirements for registration, but was registered all the same to avoid the violence that was bound to follow non-registration, given the area-boy mentality of South-West politicians. Having rejected an Obasanjo candidacy and challenged the election as a fraud in court, we now find a leading member of the AD in the government, a daughter of an Afenifere leader as Minister of State, and Awolowo´s daughter as Ambassador, all appointed by a man who won the election through fraud. Meanwhile, nothing has been negotiated for the children of Abiola, the focus of Yoruba political activity. In return for these favours, the AD solidly voted for Evan Enwerem as Senate President. This is a man who participated in the two-million- man March for Abacha´s self-succession. He also is reputed to have hosted a meeting of governors during IBB´s transition, demanding that June 12 elections should never be de-annulled and threatening that the East would go to war if this was done. When Ibrahim Salisu Buhari was accused of swearing to a false affidavit, the Yoruba political elite correctly took up the gauntlet for his resignation. When an AD governor, Bola Tinubu, swears to a false affidavit that he attended an Ivy League University which he did not attend, we hear excuses. For so many years, the Yoruba have inundated this country with stories of being marginalised and of a civil service dominated by northerners through quota system. The Federal Character Commission has recently released a report which shows that the South-West accounts for 27.8% of civil servants in the range GL08 to GL14 and a full 29.5% of GL 15 and above. One zone out of six zones controls a full 30% of the civil service leaving the other five zones to share the remaining 70%. We find the same story in the economy, in academia, in parastatals. Yet in spite of being so dominant, the Yoruba complained and complained of marginalization. Of recent, in recognition of the trauma which hit the South-West after June 12, the rest of the country forced everyone out of the race to ensure that a South-Westerner emerged, often against the best advice of political activists. Instead of leading a path of reconciliation and strong appreciation, the Yoruba have embarked on short-sighted triumphalism, threatening other "nationalities" that they ( who after all lost the election) will protect Obasanjo ( who was forced on them). No less a person than Bola Ige has made such utterances. To further show that they were in charge, they led a cult into the Hausa area of Sagamu, murdered a Hausa woman and nothing happened. In the violence that followed, they killed several Hausa residents, with Yoruba leaders like Segun Osoba, reminding Nigerians of the need to respect the culture of their host communities. This would have continued were it not for the people of Kano who showed that they could also create their own Oro who would only be appeased through the shedding of innocent Yoruba blood. I say all this, to support Balarabe Musa´s statement, that the greatest problem to nation-building in Nigeria are the Yoruba Bourgeoisie. I say this also to underscore my point that until they change this attitude, no conference can solve the problems of Nigeria. We cannot move forward if the leadership of one of the largest ethnic groups continues to operate, not like statesmen, but like common area boys. iii.The Igbo Factor and the Reasonable Limits of Retribution. The Igbo people of Nigeria have made a mark in the history of this nation. They led the first successful military coup which eliminated the Military and Political leaders of other regions while letting off Igbo leaders. Nwafor Orizu, then Senate President, in consultation with President Azikiwe, subverted the constitution and handed over power to Aguiyi-Ironsi. Subsequent developments, including attempts at humiliating other peoples, led to the counter-coup and later the civil war. The Igbos themselves must acknowledge that they have a large part of the blame for shattering the unity of this country. Having said that, this nation must realise that Igbos have more than paid for their foolishness. They have been defeated in war, rendered paupers by monetary policy fiat, their properties declared abandoned and confiscated, kept out of strategic public sector appointments and deprived of public services. The rest of the country forced them to remain in Nigeria and has continued to deny them equity. The Northern Bourgeoisie and the Yoruba Bourgeoisie have conspired to keep the Igbo out of the scheme of things. In the recent transition when the Igbo solidly supported the PDP in the hope of an Ekwueme presidency, the North and South-West treated this as a Biafra agenda. Every rule set for the primaries, every gentleman´s agreement was set aside to ensure that Obasanjo, not Ekwueme emerged as the candidate. Things went as far as getting the Federal Government to hurriedly gazette a pardon. Now, with this government, the marginalistion of the Igbo is more complete than ever before. The Igbos have taken all these quietly because, they reason, they brought it upon themselves. But the nation is sitting on a time-bomb. After the First World War, the victors treated Germany with the same contempt Nigeria is treating Igbos. Two decades later, there was a Second World War, far costlier than the first. Germany was again defeated, but this time, they won a more honourable peace. Our present political leaders have no sense of History. There is a new Igbo man, who was not born in 1966 and neither knows nor cares about Nzeogwu and Ojukwu. There are Igbo men on the street who were never Biafrans. They were born Nigerians, are Nigerians, but suffer because of actions of earlier generations. They will soon decide that it is better to fight their own war, and may be find an honourable peace, than to remain in this contemptible state in perpetuity. The Northern Bourgeoisie and the Yoruba Bourgeoisie have exacted their pound of flesh from the Igbos. For one Sardauna, one Tafawa Balewa, one Akintola and one Okotie-Eboh, hundreds of thousands have died and suffered. If this issue is not addressed immediately, no conference will solve Nigeria´s problems. By Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. |

Buhari is considering appointing tam david west and idika kalu for ministers. I said it several times that apc never prepared for this government, they thought pdp would have rigged the election so as to create tension and chaos in the country. I was in primary school when david west and kalu idika kalu was ministers of petroleum and finance respectively. Is this the change the apc government is clamoring for? |

1. Many African ladies will end up singles for life because of media exposure- it is so disheartening how a lady will glue her eyes on a mobile phone from morning to night, only to raise it up to focus on television to watch another celebrity entertainment channel. Tell me, what else will dominate this lady’s mindset aside how to live a fake celebrity life being promoted on television channels? |

Thursday 24 October, 2013Updated5:33 Thisday NEWS paper...... INEC Gets Ultimatum to Withdraw Obiano’s Candidacy for Double Registration 24 Oct 2013 Font Size: a/ A Chief Willie Obiano By Ndubuisi Ugah The Alliance of Civil Society Organisation of Nigeria (ACSON), yesterday at a press conference in Abuja, gave the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a seven-day ultimatum to withdraw the candidacy of Chief Willie Obiano, as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in the November 16 election or risk court action. Obiano had been allegedly fingered in double registration in the voters’ register, prompting the All Progressives Congress (APC) to call for Obiano's prosecution being an offense against the electoral law. Adding its voice to the call yesterday, ACSON president, Alhaji Ali Danjuma, said it had become pertinent to ask INEC to clear the table before it allows Obiano's candidacy to cause a total mess of the electoral process as well as discredit the election in the state. The group said given the successes of the 2011 general election, not minding its shortcomings, it would amount to dragging back the hands of the clock if Obiano’s alleged crime was left to go unquestioned, especially by the civil society groups, whose jobs he said, it was to sanitise the polity. "That the name of Chief Willie Obiano, appears twice in the voters’ register of the Independent National Electoral Commission is unacceptable as it negates the principle of fairness and justice as candidates in an election should ordinarily live above board. "Aside from this, Obiano being fully investigated by INEC and all the security agencies, with a view to applying the full weight of the Electoral Law 2010 as spelt out in Section 12 (2)(3) of the Act, as amended, it is our belief that INEC's immediate withdrawal of his candidacy will ensure the credibility of the Anambra governorship election as well as serve as a deterrent to future politicians. "It is in this direction that we therefore order INEC to within seven days withdraw Obiano's candidacy as documents in public domain suggest or risk the actions of the civil society groups who would leave no stone unturned in the pursuit to institute democratic culture and discipline amongst politicians and on the polity at large," Danjuma said |
The fate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the November 16, governorship election in Anambra State, Mr. Willie Obiano, may be hanging in the balance for alleged double registration, first in Lagos where he was domiciled and later his Aguleri home in Anambra East council area to enable him vote during the election. An online publication had recently alleged, following a discovery a few days ago that “Willie Obiano procured a voter’s card in Lagos sometime ago and also went ahead to procure another voter’s card at his home town, Aguleri to enable him vote in Anambra State in the forthcoming election in the state thereby registering twice with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). “If investigated, Willie Obiano, would be arrested for electoral fraud and disqualified from contesting the November 16, governorship election in Anambra state,” the online publication had said. The Anambra State Resident Electoral commissioner (REC), Professor Chukwuemeka Onukogu, had during a media briefing in Awka to herald the INEC voter revalidation exercise in the state warned that double registration attracted a severe penalty of N100,000 or one year imprisonment or both as stipulated by the Electoral Act 2010 as amended since the person, if caught would be deemed to be in possession of more than one valid voter’s card for electoral fraud. He explained that the procedure was that an indigene of the state resident in say Umuahia in Abia State, who registered there in the previous exercise and for one reason or the other relocated to the state should also transfer his or her INEC voter’s registration to Anambra through his office at the INEC to enable such a person to vote. He described the act of double registration as fraudulent, adding that the INEC had fished out about 93,000 double registrants in the state in the previous exercise and that they would be prosecuted. The development became a major issue in Anambra State yesterday with yet another allegation that the Anambra State government and some APGA chieftains were making frantic moves to cover the alleged fraud by pressurising the state REC to delete the Lagos voter’s card from INEC’s server. But the REC was said to be hesitant, while Head of the ICT department of INEC in the state is allegedly being contacted by the same state government officials to delete Obiano’s name from the Aguleri register. It was also gathered that if the allegations were proven, Obiano’s runner-up in the APGA primaries, Hon. Uche Ekwunife, may replace Obiano. The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Onukogu when contacted for his reaction yesterday on the online publication, said inasmuch as it is an offence to register twice, the whole thing remains a “rumour”. Anambra State APGA chairman, Chief Mike Kwentoh, however said the allegation of double registration was not true, adding that what Obiano did was to transfer his registration from Lagos to Anambra States. |
Subsequent upon recent investigations , more information has emerged on the Willi Obiano fraudulent double voters registration at Lagos and his country home Aguleri Few hours ago when the bubble busted on APGA , the state Government intensified more efforts to delete Willi Obiano’s voters registration at Aguleri A former disgraced INEC Lawyer (Now `working for APGA,),Barr Ejisieme Alex aka Obodo G has been used as the ‘’MR FIX IT’’ by the state government to ensure that INEC deletes Obiano’s Aguleri Voters card . The sum of 500 Million Naira was given to Barr Ejisieme Obodo G to cary out the hatchet job of ensuring that Mr Ahanotu Chidi the ICT Unit head of INEC in Anambra state deletes Obiano’s name from the Aguleri register When Mr Chidi Ahanotu developed cold feets on the matter , the state Government mandated Barr Ejisieme to contact one Mr Nsofor, Electoral Officer (EO) Anambra East LGA. Part of the plans being considered by APGA was to bribe Mr Chidi to delete the Aguleri Voters card and then transfer the Lagos Voters information to the State . Another option was to transfer the Lagos voters info to Aguleri and either deletes the previous info or claim there was a machine malfunction While thy were considering the options , information came that it would be easier to approach INEC office at Abuja to do the alteration . Barr Ejisieme Obodo G,then abandoned the Awka INEC Office and flew to Abuja while asking Mr Ahanotu Chidi to keep the deal secret On reaching Abuja,Barr Ejisieme and some top APGA Stalwarts on Mr Peter Obi’s instruction went straight to see one Mr Chidi Nwafor,a Director with INEC and head of the ICT Unit at Abuja to delete one of the Voters Card of Willi Obiano.Mr Chidi Nwafor instead opted out to instruct the ICT Unit at Awka headed by Mr Chidi Ahanotu to delete the Aguleri voters information. But unfortunately for the APGA crew , the Awka Unit informed Abuja that the scandal has already leaked to the Press. On hearing this , Mr Chidi Nwafor washed his hands off the scandal and asked the APGA team to return to Anambra State In a last minute desperate move to cover-up this fraud at all cost . Anambra State Government employed every arsenal to co-opt the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Prof Onukogu to assist in deleting one of the voters cards. Mr Willi Obiano immediately sent a letter to the REC Prof Onukogu to pressurize the ICT unit head at Abuja Mr Chidi Nwafor to delete his Aguleri’s registration at the Abuja office while Mr Chidi Ahanotu assured Obiano that immediately Prof Onukogu succeeds at influencing Abuja , that their Unit will delete every data on his double registration The implication of this scandal is that INEC will definitely disqualify Willi Obiano for fraud and electoral offenses as cotained in Nigerian Electoral Act and APGA may have to nominate another candidate |
