It’s South South Nigeria’s most prominent Duo “Unik Brodaz” with the most anticipated Hit Single “Amem?” This is a very potential Hit Song with a positive message professionally written with a combination of English and Ibibio. This is definitely a Banger stacked with meaningful lyrics and positive vibez.
Before now, “Unik Brodaz” used to be Idongesit, Nkereuwem and Ubon until Idongesit joined the Management of Kinu Records fully. However, Nkereuwem and Ubon maintain the Brand name and Signature for going concern as they go hard on this Club Banger produced by #iHearMix.

Nairaland GeneralUpper-cut: Buhari Is Starving Akwa Ibom Of Funds – Udom by sitippe(op): 2:03pm On Nov 03, 2017
UPPER-CUT: BUHARI IS STARVING AKWA IBOM OF FUNDS – UDOM

Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr.Udom Emmanuel has confessed that the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration is starving the state of funds.
He disclosed this at the Uyo Township Stadium during the presentation of flags to 31 PDP chairmanship candidates for the December 2nd council elections.

Udom said the All Progressives Congress (APC) government was still cheating the state in oil revenue sharing despite Akwa Ibom being the highest producer of oil in the country.

”We are standing here as the highest oil producer in the country, but we have not seen anything from the government at the centre.Today, oil price has gone over $61 per barrel. Last month, the allocation they gave to Akwa Ibom State was lower than what they gave to us a month before now. How can you explain that?” He said.

”It is only PDP that can ensure fairness, justice and equity in the country.”

“I want to say on 2nd December, no violence at all. We have done Ward congresses, no violence. We have done Local Government Congresses, no violence. We have done state Congresses, no violence. We did primaries, no violence. So on Dec 2nd no violence at all,” he cautioned.

Speaking earlier at the occasion, the National Caretaker Chairman, Sen Ahmed Markarfi noted that the PDP structure in Akwa Ibom state is impressive, and the party is on ground to win the Local Government elections.
He also congratulated Hon. Asuquo Archibong member representing Urue Offong Oruku at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for making the bold step to cross over to the PDP.

In his words “I have no doubt that the Local government and the councils entirely will be PDP under a free and fair elections.” He also expressed optimism that the party can regain power come 2019 at the federal government.
While commending the unity of the party in Akwa Ibom, he warned against being distracted by frivolous factors like rumours.
“Akwa Ibom state is a leading state in all ramifications. I am happy that PDP is one family here, please don’t allow rumour mongers to come between you, because the devil will try to divide us, don’t allow that to happen, close your ranks.”

CRISIS ROCKS WARD 4, ITU LGA, AS AKAN OKON STALLS COUNCILLORSHIP PRIMARIES {VIDEO}

CRISIS ROCKS WARD 4, ITU LGA, AS AKAN OKON STALLS COUNCILLORSHIP PRIMARIES

... Stakeholders insist result must be upheld

.... Set to petition  party

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primaries to select a candidate for the party in the upcoming Local Government Elections in East Itam 2 Ward 4, Itu Local Government Area, ended in crisis as some miscreants alleged to be working for the state Commissioner for, Housing, Urban Renewal and Special Duties , Mr Akan Okon, disrupted the process when it was apparent his protege lost the nomination.

The primaries which was conducted at Saint Benedict Primary School, Akon Itam, was initially peaceful and fair. Trouble however started when the Returning offcer, Mr John Sampson Emmanuel was unilaterally, but illegally prevented from further announcing the result of the primaries by the Ward Chairman, Elder Ifreke ikotidem, once it was clear that, Mr Ime Victor Etim, the candidate sponsored by Mr Akan okon, who polled 181 votes was set to lose the nomination, as his opponent, Mr Iboro Edet Udoh, as at the Last count, before the exercise was disrupted had recorded 199 votes.

Our correspondent who monitored the primaries observed that, the State Assistant Financial Secretary of PDP, who hails from the ward and working with Akan Okon gave tacit support for the announcement of the results to be suspended causing protest by the delegates who insisted, the result must be updated, announced and upheld.

When queried on the modalities of the conduct of the primaries, the Returning officer said, Mr Akan Okon had taken possession of the original result sheet, lamenting that his hands were tied.

The over eight policemen who were at the venue watched helpless as the commotion that followed the sudden stopping of the announcement of the winner nearly degenerated to violence.

It will be recalled that, some online media had raised alarm over Mr Akan Okon and Effiong Ebong’s plot to impose a Councillor on Ward 4

As at the time of filing this report, it was unclear what the fate of the supposed winner,  Mr iboro Udoh, who had already outscored his

Opponent by eight votes before the counting was abruptly discontinued will be appraised by nor the status of the said exercise.

However, stakeholders who spoke with newsmen decried what they said, is the overbearing excesses of Mr Akan Okon and his cohorts, who are bent on installing an unpopular aspirant as the Councillorship candidate in the ward against the openly canvassed position of Governor Udom Emmanuel and the party, that, popular candidates who win on ground will not be shortchanged and that imposition will no longer be tolerated.

A one time Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Barrister Grace Edim Inyang, in her reaction to the development, condemned in strong terms any attempt by anybody who has no matter how highly placed to truncate or trample upon the wishes of the people. She called on the party to call the Returning officer to order and direct him to immediately release the full and authentic result and accordingly declare the winner for peace to reign.

Also speaking of Elder John Eton said the people of the ward will vehemently resist any attempt to impose a loser on the ward and charged those orchestrating the charade to have a rethink.

Every attempt to speak with Mr Akan Okon who left the venue with Hon. Ebong as the commotion started proved abortive.

Meanwhile, videos have emerged of the protest that greeted the stoppage of the announcement of results in the primaries.

Nairaland GeneralRe:  reuben Abati: The Institutional Churches In Akwa Ibom state : where Abati by sitippe(op): 2:11pm On Sep 06, 2017
Re:  Reuben Abati: The Institutional churches in Akwa Ibom State : Where Abati got it wrong!

By Ekerete Udoh

I know Dr. Reuben Abati very well and I count him as a friend and a cherished colleague.  I am also eternally excited to see the way he has grown in journalism having played a small role in his foray into journalism and the subsequent success he has garnered in the profession. I am thus not very happy that I would have to join issues with him.

In 1990, as a 25 year old PhD holder in Theatre Arts, Dr. Abati was brought to the offices of Hints magazine by his childhood friend, Kayode Ajala for consideration as a writer with Hints magazine. I recalled the Publisher of the magazine, then Chief Counsel at TEXCACO Oil and the current Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu asking me what I thought of Dr. Abati. I remember telling Dr. Kachikwu “Doc, “(as we used to call him then) “by all means, he should be given a chance. A guy with a PhD at 25 must be a genius”.

Abati eventually joined Hints magazine as a columnist and acquitted himself very well, eventually moving to  The Guardian where he became a celebrated columnist and Chairman of the Editorial Board of thatnewspaper,   eventually ending up as the Special Adviser (Media and Publicity/ Spokesman to former President Goodluck Jonathan). Dr. Abati’s analytic skills-set stands him out as one of the best in the nation and I am always happy that the intellectual rigour he exhibited way back in 1990 has been appropriated by other Nigerians and he has not disappointed us.

But sometimes the best pundits may veer off course, and in a rush to make what they may feel represent an informed contribution on a topical issue, end up confounding and ridiculing themselves in the process. Dr. Abati’s piece under reference represents this moment in his otherwise sterling career as a columnist and a pundit and it’s very sad!

Dr. Abati’s main contention is what he believes to be the blurring of lines between the church and the State particularly in Akwa Ibom State and that churches in the State have” closed ranks” and that they operate “more like government parastatals” and went on to state that religious leaders “have learnt to defer to the state government and they are well-patronized in return for their loyalty”.

Reuben Abati’s assertions above are decidedly false and are the products of bar room gossip which someone of his intellectual standing should have discountenanced or elect to conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the veracity of such assertions rather than relying on guts feeling or politically manufactured talking points of a tiny and fast depleting community of naysayers within the Akwa Ibom political space.

May I inform my friend Dr. Abati that Akwa Ibom State as he correctly pointed out is a decidedly Christian State and we make no apologies for our deep faith in Christ and the values inherent in those beliefs. We wear our Christian faith like badges of honour and if I may educate my dear friend further, the name of the State: Akwa Abasi Ibom means the land of a great and awe-inspiring God. Our faith in God and Christ as our Lord and Saviour cuts across political and ideological spectrum.

Let me remind my friend that no nation-Islamic or one based on Judeo-Christian values and ethos can completely divorce itself from religion. Even the United States where Dr. Aabati spent over a year at the University of Maryland,  College Point in 1997,   and where Thomas Jefferson in his January 1, 1802 letter to the Danbury Baptist Church in Connecticut had canvassed the erection of a wall of separation between the church and state has totally divorced itself from its core Judeo-Christian values.

Dr. Abati knows as a political pundit and one who has followed and written numerous articles about the currents that illuminate the American political discourse that the evangelicals or values voters are powerful electoral bloc that is courted, embraced, cultivated and whose endorsement is desired by politicians across the political divide.

From the late President Ronald Reagan who openly declared his fidelity to the group to George H. Bush and George W. Bush, to the current President Trump, the leading figures within the evangelical community are inexorably tied to the White House and they consider this a patriotic duty. Billy Graham, Late Jerry Falwell, Rick Warren, James Dobson etc. are regular visitors to the White House and also serve as regular media surrogates of the mostly Republican Presidents as well as a some Democratic Presidents. No Republican  or Democratic candidate will treat with levity the awesome power of the evangelical community, and this is happening  in a nation where the there is a clear line of separation between the church and state as expressly enshrined in the Establishment Clause and Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Akwa Ibom State as a purely Christian State with an Ordained Deacon of the United Evangelical Church founded  as Qua Iboe Church , His Excellency, Udom Emmanuel as the Governor wears his Christian faith and beliefs with unapologetic pride and panache and he owes the likes of Abati no apologies for marketing and projecting  his Christian faith. His successful 2015 Gubernatorial Campaign Organization is called Divine Mandate and His Divine and invisible Hand is at work in Akwa Ibom State, leading the Governor to achieve great strides for the good people of Akwa Ibom State in spite of the challenging economic environment the nation has faced.

It is preposterous for Dr. Abati to state that the Clerics in the State who are proud of having a God –fearing and Christ-centric leader defer to the State Government and they are well patronized in return for their loyalty. I think this is a gratuitous insult from Dr. Abati and he owes the entire Christian community in the State an unreserved apology for this egregious insult.

Dr. Abati also talk about the suspension of a certain individual by the African Church because of a so-called protest he led over a certain government decision and tried to establish a link or some form of symbiotic relationship based on the incident between the Christian community and the State. This is very sad for an otherwise smart and intellectually astute pundit.

Dr. Abati, the State Government had no hand in what was purely an  internal affair of The African Church and one would have expected you to have  discerned this fact, having been familiar with the deliberate conflation of facts with fiction by mostly rabble-rousers and agents provocateur that populate the political space.

I will not even dignify Dr. Abati’s confounding rant about the propriety or otherwise of the State Government to have a befitting lodge in the nation’s commercial capital-Lagos. This issue has been eloquently addressed by his Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel. But Dr.  Abati should be reminded that practically every nation on planet earth has a befitting house in New York City, the financial capital of the United States nay the world. It is not just because of the United Nations alone that these nations have befitting houses in the city, but because of the ease of doing business with the business and financial mavens  of the world who make New York City their home.

In conclusion, let me inform Dr. Abati and his ilk that even though we may have differences politically which is an expected occurrence in a democratic space, on the issue of our Christian faith, the State is wholly homogenous and we, I repeat wear our Christian faith with pride and élan and no amount of bewildering assertions by an otherwise smart political pundit will take the Christian armour that we have worn for centuries off our backs. We are Christian soldiers and are marching on gloriously. My advice to  Dr. Abati is simple: get used to it!

Civil Society Carpets Akwa Ibom Assembly over Secrecy on 2017 Supplementary Budget

POLICY ALERT CONDEMNS SECRECY ON AKWA IBOM 2017 SUPPLEMENTARY BUDGET

Policy Alert, a civil society organization, has condemned the secrecy surrounding the 2017 Supplementary Budget recently passed into law by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

In a statement issued in Uyo this morning, the organization’s Head of Programmes, Tijah Bolton-Akpan, said: “Developing fiscal plans and supplementing them as the need arises is standard government practice and we must grant that both the Executive and the Assembly have acted within their statutory roles in enacting a supplementary budget. Our concern is that the role was not discharged in accordance with good democratic practices such as transparency, accountability and citizen participation.

“Neither the Executive nor the House of Assembly found it necessary to publish the supplementary appropriation bill online or to open up the proposals to citizens inputs. It is therefore no surprise that Akwa Ibom citizens are raising their voices in an unprecedented manner against several of the budget items. The current outrage against some of the appropriated items is happening because the budgeting decisions were reached exclusively by state actors without considering the rights of citizens to participate and in contempt of their development priorities. How can we be debating a supplementary budget that no one outside government has seen? Our experience in the past has been that such exclusion invariably impairs the quality and credibility of the budget document and its capacity to meet the real needs of citizens.”

The statement also recalled that Policy Alert had only recently commended the Udom Emmanuel administration for putting its 2017 budget online and the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for sustaining the practice of holding budget hearings on annual appropriation bills. “Coming from the same government that has performed so commendably in recent times, the handling of the supplementary appropriation process is rather disappointing and marks a new low in the state’s fiscal governance indicators” Bolton-Akpan said. “We cannot afford to reverse some of the recent gains the state has made in the area of fiscal transparency, accountability and citizens participation.”

The statement further added: “It is not too late for government to make the supplementary budget public as this will empower citizens to monitor implementation effectively. It will also be helpful to make public the State Auditor General’s reports for 2015 and 2016 as required by law as well as the first and second quarter budget implementation reports (BIRs) for 2017. It is actually preposterous to be talking about a supplementary budget when we have no idea how the initial approved budget is performing so far. We also call on the House of Assembly to step up monitoring of the 2017 budget implementation, and this includes the recent supplementary appropriations.”

Nairaland GeneralLawmaker Urges FG To Expedite Demarcation Of Nigeria/cameroon Boundary by sitippe(op): 8:38am On Aug 02, 2017
Lawmaker urges FG to expedite demarcation of Nigeria/Cameroon Boundary

Member representing Mbo in the Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Samuel Ufuo has called on the federal government to expedite actions to demarcate Nigeria’s maritime boundary with the republic of Cameroon.

Ufuo claimed Cameroon has renamed Bakassi peninsula ceded to it as “Erong pennisula”, and has named the Mbo mangrove island belonging to Nigeria as Bakassi peninsula, in an attempt to claim the mangrove which is under Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Hon. Samuel Ufuo
Mbo, a riverine local government in Akwa Ibom State sharing maritime boundary with Cameroon has been enmeshed in boundary disputes which has left scores of people displaced from their native homes.

Ufuo at a press conference to mark his 44th birthday said there is urgent need for apparent distinction of Mbo mangrove island from Bakassi peninsula.

Samuel Ufuo celebrating his birthday
“It is only a clear demarcation of our boundary that will abet the deliberate misalignment of our maritime boundary and systemic annexation of Nigerian territories to Cameroon”.

He said a group of communities on the Mbo mangrove island decimated by continous ocean surge now existing as estuaries have been annexed by Cameroon.

The lawmaker stated that the estuaries which were hitherto part of the Mbo mangrove island are a departure from the Bakassi peninsula lying eastward of Rio Del Rey river.

“The international boundary places the Mbo mangrove island under the territory of Nigeria even though they seem to be tacitly annexed to Cameroon. Article 19 of the 1913 British-Anglo-German treaties clearly assert separate identities for the mangrove isalnd and Bakassi peninsula.

“Cameroon did not include Nigerian Mbo mangrove island in their statement of claims to the ICJ, neither did the court grant it any right of sovereignty over the mangrove islands”, he stated.

Ufuo said he has developed online literatures accessible at www.discoveriesofcenturies.org, based on 1853 colonial map, the March 11, 1913 Anglo-German agreement and the ICJ ruling on the description of the boundary.

It would be recalled that when President Paul Biya visited President Muhammadu Buhari last year, both leaders had promised to work together to clearly demarcate the controversial maritime boundary.
