SportsPetra Kvitova Out For Six Months After Knife Attack But Should Resume Career by Sivao(op): 6:36pm On Dec 21, 2016
Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will be out of tennis for at least six months as she recovers from a knife attack but should be able to resume her career.

The Czech, 26, underwent surgery to tendons and nerves on her playing hand following the attack by an intruder at her home in Prostejov on Tuesday.

Kvitova faces a slow rehabilitation process after 14 days of bed rest.

The "best-case scenario" sees her playing again after six months.

Surgeon Radek Kebrle said that the operation on Kvitova's left hand went "very well, with no complications," but it will be three months until the world number 11 can even grip a racquet.

"It is too soon to specify when precisely she can return to competition, but Petra is ready to do everything she can to get back competing at the highest level," said a statement from her management.

"Petra is happy with how the operation went and is in good spirits."

More to follow.

PoliticsBREAKING: Protesters Store Abuja Over Rivers Election Rerun. by Sivao(op): 1:43pm On Nov 08, 2016
Scores of protesters on Tuesday, November 8, stormed the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, over the alleged production of fake election re-run results in Rivers state.

There are allegations that fake results were produced in the recently conducted Rivers election re-run.

Times reports that the protesters alleged that a former acting INEC chairperson, Amina Zakari, is conniving with some politicians of Nigeria’s ruling party to print fake result sheets. No evidence was produced to buttress the point.

They called for the resignation of the INEC chairperson, Mahmud Mohammed, as well as Ms. Zakari who is currently an INEC commissioner.
The electoral commission last week fixed December 10 for the Rivers re-run election to produce lawmakers that will represent the south-south state in the Senate and House of Representatives.

Previous elections to fill the seats were marred by violence and subsequently suspended by INEC.

There has been mass anger, especially among political parties in Rivers state followinga video of fake result sheets being printedfor the yet-to-be-conducted re-run election for Rivers South-East senatorial district. The police reportedly bursted a printing press where fake Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) result sheets were being produced in Port Harcourt on Saturday, November 5.

In a statement released late on Sunday, November 6 and signed by Prince Dayo Adeyeye, PDP’s national publicity secretary, the opposition party called for swift action on the part of the Presidency against those involved.

It also called forthe suspension of transport minister Chibuike Amaechiwho was reportedly mentioned in connection with the fake result printing ring.

EducationGod Approved Covenant Varsity’ S School Fees – Oyedepo by Sivao(op): 4:27am On Nov 06, 2016
The Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Dr. David Oyedepo, has appealed to those criticising the school fees charged by Covenant University to desist to avoid incurring the wrath of God.

Oyedepo, in a telecast to a pre-Shiloh 2016 Convention gathering of the church monitored via satellite in Jos on Saturday, said the critics were acting in ignorance and risked incurring the wrath of God. He said one of such critic smitten with a strange plague of chronic mouth odour over the act only received spiritual pardon following his confession and “my intervention before he was restored to dignity”.

Oyedepo said the issue of school fees paid by students of the university was a godly agenda to meet the demands of raising godly children in an environment conducive for learning. He said such criticisms were products of ignorance as what students pay could not be compared with what obtained elsewhere that lacked facilities.

“The school fees has Gods approval and is in accordance with the quality of facilities provided by the university in meeting the educational needs of the nation”.

He said the church in its pioneering role in pushing the frontiers of education with excellence had concluded plans to establish offshore universities.

The cleric said a fully automated Bible press by the church had been completed and would be launched soon. Oyedepo, however, quoting from some verses of the Bible, which include Matthew 24:6-8, 1Peter 2:9, Joel 2:2 and Mal. 4:1, said the current economic meltdown was predicted but that committed Christians would be exempted.

He prayed for resources for parents to always meet the demands of the time and declared the theme of this year’s Shiloh holding between December 6 and 10 as “My Case is Different”. The bishop said this year’s annual event of Shiloh would not be advertised as past events as it would be church based.

CelebritiesNollywood Movie Star:- Odunlade Adekola Vs Femi Adebayo – Who Do You Prefer? by Sivao(op): 4:12am On Nov 06, 2016
Nollywood top stars Odunlade Adekola and Femi Adebayo has been in the movie industry for many years and has bagged several awards respectively. Both movie thespian has paid their dues in the movie industry and are basking in the success of their career.

This issue of the above thespians has generated much discourse and argument among their various fans as to which of them is the best actor.

Odunlade Adekola:
The bone of contention has been whether Odunlade is better than Femi? For two years on a stretch, Odunlade has been bagging the best actor award. The Nollywood thespian began his career from Abeokuta with a group called John Babs about 17 years ago was shot into limelight when he featured in late Ahmed Alasari’s movie Asiri Gomina Wa in 2003, and on this he rode.

In 2007, Odunlade was able to prove to Nigerians that he is an actor that cannot be waved aside and in 2009, at the maiden edition of City People Entertainment Awards, he clinched the best actor award which he received again in 2010. As if confirming his acceptance by the viewing populace, Globacom made him one of their brand ambassadors and that explains the touch of green on his outfits.

Odunlade has gone beyond being an actor as he is also a movie producer and a music artist. However, the father of four believes this is his time as he is ready to seize the opportunity and maximize it.

Femi Adebayo:
Born into the family of thespians, Femi Adebayo grew up knowing his father as an actor, so his choosing acting as a career was not a surprise. The only surprise in his own case is the fact that he is a qualified lawyer, practiced law for a while before he dropped the gown and the wig ion pursuit of his movie career.

Femi Adebayo hit limelight when he was very young in Tade Ogidan’s movie, Owoblow. Many have believed that Femi’s sudden rise to fame in the industry can be linked to the fact that his father is a big name in the movie industry which has opened many doors for him.

The argument has therefore been that while the likes of Odunlade were struggling to get a role, all Femi needs was a word from his father to the producer, and he will get a role. Femi candidly agreed sometimes ago to the fact that the name Oga Bello or Adebayo Salami has helped opened so many doors for him, adding that if he is not good at what he does nobody would want to reckon with him even if his father recommends him. In other words, his father’s name did open doors for him sometimes, but did not keep him there but his hard work did.

Another relationship that helped boost Femi’s career was the one he had with fellow law graduate who also found herself in the Yoruba movie industry, Funke Akindele. It was while with Funke that many believed Femi got the break that brought him to limelight.

Aside being an actor, the father of two lovely daughters is also a movie producer while his brother, Tope Adebayo directs his movies.

However, Femi Adebayo took over the baton of best actor from Odunlade two years ago as he was also named same year edition of City People Entertainment Awards.

Many believed that Odunlade is more of a spontaneous actor who can take up any role at any given time. He is by nature a hyperactive person and as such very good at roles that entails much activity. Femi Adebayo on the other hand is a cool person that reflects on his role interpretation as the maturity touch is always attached to it.

In recent times, both are trying to showcase their creativity in comedy movies. Odunlade has been known to be a good comic actor; this he started with his role in the movie Beru ba Joba many years back and he has been able to build on it, he has also tried gangster roles and fitted in perfectly. Femi on the other hand is always calm when interpreting roles; he recently tried his hand in a comic role in his movie, Jelili which has fetched him an award.

In relation to education, there are some roles which Femi is better in than Odunlade. Odun is also a good singer as he does all the sound tracks in his movies having grown up in the church. But the ultimate question remains…

Who between these two Do You Prefer?

EducationBrexit Named Word Of The Year By Collins Dictionary. by Sivao(op): 12:28am On Nov 05, 2016
Widely used word to describe Britain's withdrawal form EU was a 'gift to headline writers everywhere,' says Collins.

Brexit has been named the word of the year by Collins, beating topical and contemporary vocabulary weaved into today's lexicon such as Trumpism, uberization and hygge.

Brexit - first used by Collins in 2013 - means "the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union", according to the dictionary publisher.

"We believe that the obvious increased use of ‘Brexit’ [up 3,400 percent in 2016], its significant impact in British politics and Britain's exit from the EU make it a word not only primed for history books but also as Collins' Word of theYear," Collins explained on itswebsite. "It has divided the country, brought down a prime minister and been a gift to headline writers everywhere."

Last year's word of the year was binge-watch, the act of viewing a large number of television programmes in succession.

"Our lexicographers monitor word usage across all forms of media, and highlight thosethat are new and are gaining tractionwith the public, or those established words that are being used more frequently, perhapsbecause their meaning is changing," said Collins.

The other nine words on the 2016 shortlist were:

Hygge: A concept, originating in Denmark, of creating cosy and convivial atmospheres that promote wellbeing.

Mic drop: A theatrical gesture in which a person drops, or imitates the action of dropping, a hand-held microphone to the ground as the finale to a speech or performance.

Trumpism: (1) The policies advocated by the US politician Donald Trump, especially those involving a rejection of the current political establishment and the vigorous pursuit of American national interests. (2) A controversial or outrageous statement attributed to Donald Trump.

Throw shade: To make a public show of contempt for someone or something, often in a subtle or non-verbal manner.

Sharenting: The habitual use of social media to share news, images, etc of one's children.

Snowflake generation: The young adults of the2010s, viewed as being less resilient and more prone to taking offence than previous generations.

Dude food: Junk food such as hot dogs, burgers, etc considered particularly appealing to men.

Uberization: The adoption of a business model in which services are offered on demandthrough direct contact between a customer and supplier, usually via mobile technology.

JOMO: Joy of missing out - pleasure gained from enjoying one’s current activities without worrying that other people are having more fun.

Popular Nigerian singer ,Iyanya has come out to say that he now belongs to Mavins record label and they are looking forward to releasing the first single with more expectations to come.

Speaking about his reason for joining mavins , he said, he said he needed someone who knows much about the music industry and who can help him realize that dream that he has always had.

Iyanya who talked about starting his own music label explained why it was not yet time for him to do that having seen all it entails and the quality of label he is looking up to he said,” Honestly, It’s not hard for me to set up my own label.

It costs about 120,000 to register a label, but my brand alone demands a lot of attention and the truth is I actually started a label, like I started the movement but I didn’t even see anybody that I could trust on that level because the future and what I want to achieve is way beyond putting 10 people together and moving around with branded T-shirts, which is what everybody wants you to do. But I thought about it and decided I need something stronger.

“ I need to concentrate on this music because you can own a label but if you are not making good music, nobody cares. Starting a label also meant that I’ll be in charge of my music, logistics and everything, it’s too stressful and I don’t think I’m ready for that and the best option was Don Jazzy because from our studio session for ‘Gift’ last year we knew our working together was always smooth and productive so we just made it official.

He said he has no regret joining mavins label because everyone of them work with unity of purpose.

CelebritiesTeebillz Returns To Social Media. by Sivao(op): 7:20pm On Oct 30, 2016
It's been six months since Tiwa Savage's estranged husband and former manager, Tunde Balogun, aka Teebillz, bid Instagram goodbye following their public fall-out in April.
Last week, he returned to the social media-networking platform unannounced, but his presence didn't go unnoticed especially after he "liked" some posts.
Today, the father-of-four posted an inspirational photograph to his over 144,000 Instagram followers. The post talks about change, and the need to be the change you want to see in people.
Tiwa and Teebillz were one of Nigeria's showbiz power couple up until cracks in the union came to the public domain in April.
This was after Tee Billz accused Tiwa of infidelity, amongst other things. In return, the wife alleged that he abused hard drugs.
Following the allegations, Clina Lancet laboratories in Lagos, ran tests to confirm Teebillz drug use history.
According to the results, which were published online on May 4, 2016, he tested negative to the use of Cocaine, Cannabis, Ecstasy, Oxycodone and every other form of hard drugs.
The results countered the rumours that he was a drug addict and that he was in debt because of drug abuse.
With the support of those around him TeeBillz took the courageous first steps and began to seek medical and spiritual help he needed in May.
He has also reportedly been receiving spiritual guidance and counseling from the General Overseer of Trinity House, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, and Pastor Ayo Oluokun from City of David Church.
These two clergies were the first to reach out to him and pray with him, and for him, daily since his breakdown.
In addition, he has also been receiving life coaching sessions and therapy by Lanre Olusola also known as The Catalyst whom he first met over two years ago at the beginning of his struggles with depression.
Olusola has also thrown his weight behind TeeBillz. He dropped a comment on Tee Billz's post, which read, "Tee Billz is a great mind. We all have our weaknesses including me. No one is perfect; we are all work in progress. But thank God my man Tee is changed from within; restored and now standing tall... watch this space."
Sources close to Tee Billz say he acknowledges that he has made mistakes, and he is taking steps to mend and rebuild his life. They claim he is also getting the help he needs in order to be a renewed man for his family and loved ones.

PoliticsNigeria: Why We're Taking A Huge N9.61 Trillion Loan - Govt by Sivao(op): 3:24pm On Oct 27, 2016
The federal government has explained why it wants to take a $30.54 billion (about N9.61 trillion) loan, which is believed to be the biggest single external loan request by any government in recent history.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who on Tuesday requested the National Assembly's accelerated approval of the borrowing plan, said it would include a $575 million World Bank loan.
The total loan will fund a number of key projects in the country, he said.
The projects cut across key sectors of the economy, with special emphasis on infrastructure development, agriculture, health, education, water supply, growth and employment generation, poverty reduction through social safety net programmes and governance and financial management reforms.
Mr. Buhari said the proposed programmes would receive about $11.274 billion of the total loan, while special infrastructure projects would take $10.69 billion. Euro bonds will take $4.4 billion and federal budget support, $3.5 billion, he said.
Details of the projects to be executed with the World Bank loan include polio eradication support and routine immunization project ($125 million); community and social development project ($75 million), and Nigerian states health programme investment project ($125 million).
Others include State education programme investment project ($100 million), Nigerian youth employment and social support project ($100 million), and Fadama 11 project ($50 million).
The huge loan is the highest single borrowing by the Nigerian government in history.
Consolidated public debt stock in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) annual report 2014 showed that between 2010 and 2014 the highest external loan by government was N1.65 trillion in 2014.
External debt for preceding years were N689.8 billion in 2010; N896.8 billion in 2011; N1.03 trillion in 2012 and N1.39 trillion in 2013.
The loan is expected to help reflate the nation's economy has been in recession for months.
The government had earlier announced a $15 billion (N4.72 trillion) fiscal stimulus plan for the troubled economy.
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udoma, said the plan would be funded majorly through a number of sources, namely sale of some national assets and advance payment by joint venture operators for license renewals.

Other sources included infrastructure concessions, use of recovered funds as well as long term, low interest loans to bridge funding gap.
The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, had also said as part of an external borrowing plan approved by the Executive Council of the Federation, the government would borrow cheapest available monies to fund key ongoing projects.
The huge borrowing is seen as an indication that the government might have quietly shelved the idea of selling asset, amidst stiff opposition from Nigerians.
The Director-General, Debt Management Office (DMO), Abraham Nwankwo, said on Tuesday that for Nigeria to pull the economy out of recession, government must seriously embrace "conventional public borrowing" to fund critical projects.
Mr. Nwankwo said long before the drop in global crude oil prices in mid-2014, it was clear Nigeria needed to invest about $25 billion per annum for 7 to 10 years to cover its huge infrastructure deficit.
With the drastic drop in oil revenues, he said the country faced additional challenge in financing gap in public revenues estimated at about $20 billion per annum.
"This means Nigeria's total investment deficit is not $25 billion per annum, but $45 billion per annum," Mr. Nwankwo said.
With the huge "structural financing gap (SFG)," he said the country needed to tap capital from all available sources, including short, term and long-term borrowing with tenors of 15 years and above, to survive.
With average cost of domestic debt higher than average cost of external debt by more than seven percent, the DMO boss said significant domestic borrowing would worsen existing high debt service-to-revenue ratio.
Prime lending rate range between 15.88 and 16.95 per cent, while maximum lending rate range from 25.07 to 26.07 per cent.
The decision to go for the huge external borrowing, he explained, was to avoid crowding out the private sector, to allow them enough borrowing space to play their role in growing the economy, in response to the infrastructure environment by government.
"The essence of the massive investment plan is that within 5 to 7 years, the country should be moving on a trajectory of sustainable and continuously strengthening economic recovery.
But the borrowing plan has been criticised by some Nigerians.
The lead director, Centre for Social Justice (CENSOJ), Eze Onyekpere, described government decision to take more loan as "fiscal irresponsibility".
"We are paying about $61 billion in external debt already. If we add another $29.96 billion to be borrowed, we will be talking about $90.96 billion. What kind of projects are they going to use the loan on?
Mr. Onyekpere admitted he was yet to get the details of the loans proposal.
"Unless, they are projects that can re-generate themselves for government to repay the loans. otherwise, we see it as high fiscal irresponsibility and recklessness," he said.
