asuustrike2009: Everyone doesn't have the same mental capacity hence they understand a thing from different perspective. This is applicable to those studying the Bible. God deals with the way man can comprehend. There is no particular church that draws people closer to God. God is everywhere hence he dwells when two or more gather to pray and study his word. But this is God we are talking about!! An all powerful, ominipotent, ominipresent, omniscient being: He should know that humans have different mental capability and hence might misinterpret the gospel. Hence, it's his responsibility to break it down to the simplest form for every human to understand and follow the right path. Catholics believes that their sacraments are a prerequisite for making heaven hence anything outside of their doctrines is a sure ticket to hell. So they'll disagree with you when you say that no particular church draws one to God. They are so sure about this and have scriptures to back it up. How do you explain this contradictions to someone with no religious affiliation? |

Chidorx60: omg,is that all u could deduct from what I said, the same way we have collaborations to prove a mathematical hypothesis, were different point of views are added up by different minds, one scripture can have different meanings and the HolyGhost reveals as much as he wants to whom he wants, as long as its edifies the body of Christ, the only author of confusion is Satan, and people who view the scriptures from human perspectives Math is a science and science deals with evidence. In maths, one can use different methods and arrive at the same conclusion but this methods have been tested and trusted. Same cannot be said of religion so don't equate the both. If you say that the Holy Spirit reveals what he wants to who he wants, doesn't that tell you that the Holy Spirit cannot be trusted and whatever he reveals should be taken with a pinch of salt ? |

asuustrike2009: it is good we have many denomination because there are varieties to choose from. What is important is the message that draws you closer to God.Heaven is the key because there is no Christian denomination over there. Jehovah will never ask which church did you attend. He will judge you based on his word. Every scripture from Genesis to Revelation will be used to judge you. If all the denominations are preaching different messages, how do we know the one that will get us closer to God. For instance when you buy an electric appliance, it always comes with a users manual. Let's say you opened the box and found 10 different manual contradicting each other; You'll be furious and confused right ? |

Chidorx60: good question it is very true that the bible is inspired by the holy ghost and that different meanings can be gotten from the same scripture, on one hand the holy ghost can give varying insight to different people depending on their level of faith and revelation but on the other hand people will claim to see things that were not really there I am not speaking from hearsay I am speaking from a point of raw observation of people manifesting the gift of revelation if the bible was an ordinary mystery book it cannot reveal such truth this does not make sense. Are you implying that the Holy Ghost is a confusionist? |

All the different christian denominations claim they've been inspired by the holy spirit. If they all are inspired by the holy spirit, why are there contradictions in the way they understand the same bible |

Riofidelio: To identify the true Christians you need to read about Jesus and carefully study His comments on every issue,by so doing you'll be able to identify the group following His footsteps. As for many different religions claiming Christian it's because every nation around the east have realized that Israelites have a God that's invincible so they're all trying to relate with the God of Israel! Even Arabs who are eternal enemies of Israelites are also trying to relate with the God of Israel, referring to all ancient faithful Israelites as prophets and insisted on calling them in Arabic. But all these religions are different because they believe in their founders they revered as prophets "not Jesus" including Muslims who are following Muhammad(an Arabian who tried to copy the Catholic Church during the 16th century) So which of the numerous Christian denomination is authentic and the original? |

Christianity is just so confusing. You can derive different meaning to verses or chapters in the bible and have other chapters and verses to back it up. Armed with this bibles verses/chapters, you can start your own denomination and win thousands of converts in no time. |

Did he really need to go through that stress. All it needed was to say the word. If a programmer writes a bad code, it's his duty to debug it.
It defies all logic. Brethren help me understand this. |

OLAADEGBU: [s]
Let's see how science proves there has to be a God as said in Genesis 1:1.
Scientific Evidence That Demands A Creator God.
There are only three possibilities from where the universe can come from. By way of the elimination we will arrive at our destination.
1). The universe created itself; 2). The universe has always existed, and 3). The universe was created.
1. The universe created itself:
Can something create itself? Can nothing create something? The answer to these is an absolute No. We all know that something cannot create itself and nothing can't create something. From Latin we have the phrase "ex nihilo, nihil fit" meaning "from nothing, nothing comes." It also violates the law of cause and effect, that says for every effect there must be a cause. The effect can't be greater than the cause and nothing cannot be greater than something. Therefore, based on the laws of science and logic, the universe couldn't have created itself. That leaves us with options 2 and 3.
2. The univese has always existed:
Lets go to the 2nd law of thermodynamics that basically teaches that "the whole universe is losing usable energy for doing usable work." This means that the usable energy in this universe is wearing down. The universe as a whole is losing energy. In other words, molecules as a whole are slowing down.
Therefore, if this universe was eternal we will be in what is called an "virtual heat death." This means that there will be virtually no molecular movement. Everything would have lost its available heat energy for doing work. Therefore, the universe cannot be eternal, it must have had a beginning. The theory that the universe has always existed or is eternal has to be false based on the law of science and logic, another speculation gone with the air. This leaves us with only one possibility based on science. Which is that:
3. The universe was created:
"In the Beginning God created the heaven and the earth." -- Genesis 1:1
Science confirms the Bible. QED Simples. [/s] TRASH! |

hadow: please for the last paragraph please tell me where there are in the Bible.
So the works of Solomon, teachings of Jesus, prophecies of the prophets are just works of literature? The following passage shows that slaves are clearly property to be bought and sold like livestock. However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT) If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.’ If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever. (Exodus 21:2-6 NLT) Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT) Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT) This bible verses are just for slavery alone. There are more sickening verses which support other heinous crimes against humanity. |

Religions like Christianity claim they worship one true god, YAHWEH. They also claim that the Bible contains the word of god inspired by the holy spirit but what I find amusing is that they find it difficult to agree on basic doctrines such as the trinity which are the bedrock of the christian faith.
This gives rise to numerous denominations which keeps springing up every day. Each denomination hates the other and are always at logger heads. You can see their debates and arguments everywhere even here on nairaland. Can anyone explain this or is the holy spirit a spirit of confusion and chaos?? |

hadow: This is where faith comes, like the bible says faith cometh by hearing and by hearing the word of God. Romans 10:17.
And also most if not all stories in the bible have historical and archaeological backings that prove its authencity Lol, this is funny. So what you are saying is that one should take whatever the bible says in good faith no matter how ridiculous it sounds? And what historical and archaeological backing gives credence to the bible? Stories in the bible such as the garden of eden, the great flood and noah's has been found to be just myths and lacking any empirical evidence to prove them. The bible is a masterpiece of literature just like several other books but it also has it share of flaws and hence cannot be inspired by infallible God. Is it not the same bible that supports slavery, racism, genocide, infanticide, rape, misogyny? |
