Education / Re: Hijab: Deeper Life Church Backs Use Of Christian Garments By Pupils by skill4biz: 2:22pm On Jun 20, 2016

Muslims didn't start wearing hijab to school this year. In lagos you'll see muslim students wear hijab on their uniform. Both private schools and public schools. It's not a new thing so I'm surprised why it's causing this much problem now. Even in the USA and UK you'll see muslim students wearing hijab to school. This has been happening since like forever.

You have to really understand what's going on in osun before you say something about it. The judge didn't force Christians to wear hijab. He said any muslim student that wishes to wear 1 is free to wear 1. So why is CAN taking that personal. A Muslim will wear her hijab everywhere. Can you wear your choir robe every where? We have to be fair in talking about this issue. Muslim wearing hijabs in osun state does not pose any threat to Christians na. This is not Maiduguri where they put bomb under hijabs. Why did they ban the Muslims in osun for using hijab in the first place.

I wonder when allowing little girls to wear hijab turn to islamization. What's there to islamize in osun self.

Please of you must reply my comment. Do it in a matured way. Don't call me any useless name and don't break NL laws.

Am a Christian n I do believe dat CAN is going about dis thing in a wrong way. I don't believe in eye for an eye and the Bible preach against it too. I believe the best they should do is get a lawyer n appeal d judgement. I really don't support d introduction of hijab into public school too but they should go about it in the right way.
And for the Muslims supporting dis, I believe they are just so naive n too sentimental, the reason why dis was push forward is because the governor of the state is a Muslim n they feel they have authority because schools av been in existence for long but students only use beret n would they say dat they don't know hijab was compulsory then?
But I hope both Muslim leaders n CAN will resolve dis peacefully cos most of dis kids would probably convert to either religion in d future n their purpose in school isn't to promote religion.

Pls, nobody is against hijap. Bt wat we a saying is that can a xtian governor brings a non Islamic sch 2 Muslim sch without given

Lukay99:

Please Nigeria is not a secular state. Nigerians are usually religious even though they don't really practice what they preach a very good example will be Christians preaching "tolerance of other faith" yet they refuse to let others (Muslims) practice their faith and yes wearing of the hijab is not just a dress mode but it's an act of faith mandatory for all faithful female Muslims in every public places "The Hijab is an act of faith" so refusing the hijab is like denying the Christians the right to practice one of the major mandatory acts of Christians Faith.

How come gay's and lesbians can't marry in your so secular Nigeria? I'm happy it was not a Muslim government that stopped gay marriage in Nigeria because if it was buhari, you would have been shouting "objection" Nigeria is a secular state, your hatred of the Muslim will always make you guys supports what your own Bible is openly against e.g covering of the head by female.
Some of you guys are now claiming we muslims in the SW are not tolerance of other faith. really!!! We muslims have had to tolerate the oppression of Christians directly and indirectly right from the very first day the Christian white colonial so called masters and their missionary partner set their foot in Nigeria they created a school system that only put one religion(Christianity ) into account while neglecting other faiths that were already in place (e.g Islam and traditional believe, etc). The schools uniforms only put Christians in to account when it was created.

We've had to give up our religious rest day (Friday) to go government jobs and schools yet we don't complain but Christians don't have to give up Sunday's for nothing we are not even asking you guys to give up your Sunday and we are not even asking to get whole Friday's off, all we are asking for is to be able to cover our own heads not yours, according to our our beliefs. Only god knows what our muslims fathers have had to go through just to get the schools to close at 1pm on Friday's in the past.

Christians always calls muslims intolerance when we are just demanding basic religious Rights that they as Christians themselves are already enjoying.

If I live in Nigeria and pay my taxes that is used in building public schools in Nigeria yet I'm restricted from attending the school that I indirectly paid for just because of my belief? Even in western countries hijab is allowed in public schools (secular society ) but in Nigeria we see the opposite, I think it's either mental slavery of our Christians brothers and sisters are suffering from after independence from the colonial rule or it's just their hatred for muslims.

Please Christians are more than welcome to put on whatever they want to wear schools and if they still want wear their colonial master uniform that's fine too but don't make it most for the muslims. In a truly multi religion society that really practice tolerance of all its religions then school informs should only belongs in the private schools not the other way around. This is a public school for God's sake

Pls, not body is against hijap. Bt wat we a saying is that can a xtian governor brings a non Islamic sch 2 Muslim sch without given

In my own opinion Aregbesola shld be held responsible 4 all these crisis.
B4 dis administration started pple of Oshun lived 2gether peaceful.I

As controversy continues to rage over the Nigerian Presidency’s decision to build a presidential helipad in President Buhari’s hometown of Daura, Katsina State, information from a Nigerian web portal and Nigerian Air Force sources have revealed that the Nigerian Presidential air fleet has three Augusta Westland AW139 helicopters.

The specification of the helicopters in Nigeria’s presidential fleet further heightens concerns over the actual size and cost of the proposed helipad in Daura. The AgustaWestland AW139 is a 15-seat medium sized twin-engined helicopter developed and produced principally by AugustaWestland. It is marketed at several different roles, including VIP/corporate transport, offshore transport, fire fighting, law enforcement, search and rescue, emergency medical service, disaster relief, and maritime patrol. The AW139 is a conventional twin-engine multi-role helicopter. It has a five-bladed fully articulated main rotor with a titanium hub and composite blades and a four-bladed articulated tail rotor. It is fitted with a retractable tricycle landing gear, the two aft wheels retract into external sponsons, which are also used to house emergency equipment. It is flown by a crew of two pilots, with up to 15 passengers accommodated in three rows of five

Business / Nigeria Was The African Largest Economy With A $574 Billion GDP– Jonathan by skill4biz: 11:17am On Apr 25, 2016
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that he handed over a Nigeria with the largest economy in Africa, though he met the nation the second when he ascended the office of the president following the death of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

Former President Jonathan
Jonathan spoke in New Jersey, United States, on Saturday, April 23, 2016, to Friends of Africa Coalition at the Mayor’s Office on issues dwelling on strengthening democracy and elections in Africa.
According to the Nigerian Monitor, Jonathan said the richest man in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, was the 5th richest man in 2009 but he handed over a nation that produced the richest man in Africa by 2015.
Dr. Jonathan, who also spoke on issues bordering on the 2015 general elections in Nigeria and the economy of the country, said the outcome of the 2015 polls would have been ridden with crisis if he was not a president elected by the will of the people of Nigeria.
According to the former president, “the campaigns leading to the elections almost polarized the country into Christian versus Muslims and North versus South divide. Most world leaders were worried that our elections will result into major crisis. Some pundits even from here in the United States said that those elections would spell the end of Nigeria and that we would cease to exist as a nation because of the polls.

“That is where the leadership question comes into play. As a leader that was duly elected by the people, I considered the people’s interest first. How do I manage my people to avoid killings and destruction of properties? With the interest of the people propelling all the decisions I took, we were able to sail through.
“Indeed, we sail through because I refused to interfere with the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, having appointed a man I had never met in my life to run it. My philosophy was simple. For elections to be credible, I as a leader, must value the process more than the product of the process. And the citizens must have confidence in the electoral body.
“This rule of the law of process ensured that Nigeria’s peace, prosperity and progress was not derailed by the conduct and results of the 2015 elections and I am proud to say that while I took over a Nigeria that was the second largest economy in Africa with a GDP of $270.5 billion in 2009, I handed over a Nigeria that had grown to become the largest economy in Africa and the 24th largest economy in the world with a GDP of $574 billion.”
He said he inherited a Nigeria in which the trains were not working, and handed over a Nigeria in which citizens can safely travel by trains again, adding that “I inherited a Nigeria that was a net importer of cement, and handed over a Nigeria that is a net exporter of cement. In 2009 the richest Nigerian was the 5th richest man in Africa, but I handed over a Nigeria that produced the richest man in Africa.

Religion / Dangerous Islamic Group Emerges In Kaduna – Governor El-rufai by skill4biz: 11:07pm On Apr 08, 2016
The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has raised the alarm over the emergence of a deadly Islamic group, “Gausiyya” in Markafi Local Government Area of the state.
Mr. El-Rufai made this known in a radio interview on Saturday, while justifying the need to regulate religious activities in the state.
The governor had weeks ago forwarded the Religious Regulation Bill, 2016, to the state House of Assembly, a situation that pitched him against religious leaders and rights activists across the country.
The proposed law seeks to regulate religious activities, especially preaching, and to provide sanctions for its violation.
The leader of the Omega Fire Ministry, with headquarters in Auchi, Johnson Suleman, is one of those accusing Mr. El-Rufai of trying to use the law to intimidate the Christian faithful in the state.
In a sermon in Auchi, Apostle Suleman had directed the governor to do away with the proposed law or die.
“Revoke this law or die,” the clergyman said while preaching to his congregation.
By initiating the bill, he said the governor had drawn a battleline with God and would pay dearly unless he backed down.

Politics / Blackout: Shiroro, Sapele Power Plants Shut April 6, 2016 by skill4biz: 9:10am On Apr 06, 2016
The nation’s electricity woes worsened on Tuesday as two additional power generating plants were shut down, bringing the total number of plants not generating any megawatts of electricity to 10.

The two shut plants are Shiroro Power Station in Niger State and Sapele II in Delta State, industry data obtained by our correspondent showed.

Shiroro, whose capacity was put at 600MW, was said to have seen its unit 411G1 tripped on emergency shutdown on the 86ES lockout relay; units 411G2 and 3 out for under water repair work; and unit 411G4 out on maintenance.

The Sapele II, built under the National Integrated Power Project, with its capacity put at 225MW, has four units. The GT1 was shut down for maintenance, GT3 out due to work by the Nigerian Gas Company at the gas station, while the GT2 and 4 units are out as a result of gas constraints.

Total national power generation stood at 2,774.2MW on Tuesday, down from 3,657.5MW on March 31. Generation from Egbin, the nation’s biggest power station, was limited to 415MW due to gas constraints, down from 1,085MW on March 15.

Shell’s Afam VI power plant generated the highest megawatts of electricity at 418MW as of 6am, the data showed.

The slide in power generation has worsened the blackout being experienced in many parts of the country as many consumers complained of outages lasting for hours on end.

The PUNCH had on Friday reported exclusively that eight of the nation’s power plants were completely idle on Thursday, with significant reduction in generation from others, including Egbin, which is located in Lagos.

The plants, which did not generate any megawatts of electricity included Sapele, Delta State, whose installed capacity was put at 240MW; Olorunsogo II in Ogun State, with a capacity of 625MW; Rivers IPP (180MW) and Trans-Amadi (75MW), both in Rivers State.

Others were Geregu I in Kogi; Afam IV & V in Rivers, and A.E.S and Asco, whose installed capacity were not given.

Sapele’s units were said to be shut due to gas constraints, tripping, maintenance and major overhaul, among other reasons.

The Rivers IPP’s unit GT1 was out due to gas constraints, while Trans-Amadi’s GT1 and 4 units were out due to line constraints; GT2 due to gas constraints and GT3 undergoing maintenance.

According to the data, there was no communication on A.E.S, while Asco’s unit GT1 was out due to a fire outbreak. Olorunsogo’s units GT1 to 4 and ST2 were shut due to gas constraints, and ST1 for maintenance.

Geregu’s three units were shut due to outage and to enable them to undergo a major overhaul and maintenance, while a unit of Afam IV & V had been de-commissioned and scrapped; four were out due to blade failure and two due to burnt generator transformer, among others.

Business / N’assembly Committee Detects Fresh Flaws In 2016 Budget by skill4biz: 8:41am On Mar 17, 2016
The Senate and House Joint Committee on Appropriation has detected fresh errors in the 2016 budget, investigations by The PUNCH have revealed.

It was gathered that the errors were responsible for the failure of the committee to present its report to the two chambers of the National Assembly on Wednesday as it had promised.

Investigations, however, showed that the errors would not affect the plan of the National Assembly to transmit the budget to President Muhammadu Buhari before Easter as efforts were being made to correct them.

It was learnt that one of the anomalies detected was in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, where provisions had been made for procurement and installation of security systems every year since 2013.

For example, in 2013, the sum of N527,000,000 was budgeted for the item; in 2014, N1,161,356,582 was allocated to the same item; in 2015, N316,420,274 was budgeted for it; and N1,710,322,610 is to be spent on the procurement and installation of security system in the SGF office in 2016.

The committee also detected items without project locations in the Ministry of Works, Power and Housing (headquarters).

Such projects include the construction of a block of three classrooms at the cost of N85,592,483; construction of a maternity centre for N91,124,858; and the allocation of N172,623,767 for the building of skill acquisition centres.

The committee pointed out that oversight function would not be possible without project locations.

It was learnt that the committee also discovered anomalies in the allocation of large amounts of money for the rehabilitation and repair of office buildings as well as purchase of office items and fittings.

Not less than N21bn was allocated to such repairs and purchase at the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the government.

The committee also detected duplication of items. For example, N2.3bn was earmarked for former heads of state in the service wide vote of the Ministry of Budget and Planning, while N400,190,000 was allocated to the affairs of the former heads of state in the SGF office.

Other examples of duplication include allocation of N256,920,000 for the purchase of equipment, vehicles and furniture for the National Bureau of Statistics and the N230,705,000 by the NBS for the same purpose.

It was also learnt that the committee discovered instances where allocations for the purchase of items were made without stating the quantities to be bought.

Such include the construction of solar boreholes at the cost of N140m in the Ministry of Works, Power and Housing and in the National Power Training Institute, N81m was budgeted for operational vehicles.

The committee described some items as curious. These include the allocation of N340m for wildlife conservation at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and N150m for growing girls and women project at the Federal Road Maintenance Agency.

Another curious budgetary item is the refund of N2,479,581,721 to states for federal roads, which was placed under the National Intelligence Agency.

When contacted, the Senate spokesperson, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, said the errors had been corrected at the committee stage.

He said that there were no fresh errors and challenged anyone with contrary information to publish the source.

Abdullahi said, “The errors in the budget were identified at the various committee levels. The Appropriation committees of both chambers had jointly scrutinised the document and had come up with an error-free copy.

“As a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, I can confirm to you that I am not aware of any fresh error discovered after the joint committee of the two chambers had worked on the budget.

MEMBERS of the EKITI State House of Assembly have declared that their lives and that of the governor, Ayodele Fayose, are not safe, following several revelations, after the abduction of their colleagues - Honourable Sina Animasaun (Ekiti West II), Honourable Musa Arogundade (Ado II), Honourable Afolabi Akanni (Efon) and Honourable Badejo Anifowose (Moba I), at the Assembly on Friday, March 4.
The lawmakers, who were on a visit to the headquarters of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, publishers of the Tribune titles, on Wednesday, stated this, adding that they were ready to lay down their lives instead of compromising, as being suggested by the DSS and the opposition.
Honourable Babajide Omotoso, who spoke on behalf of the lawmakers, said the event of March 4, had continued to trample on the fundamental human rights of the abducted lawmakers and even those walking freely for now.
Omotoso, who gave a vivid detail of how the lawmaker representing Efon in the state House of Assembly was abducted by the officers of the Department of State Security Services (DSS), said their families are now living in danger, especially after the visit of the Senate committee on Tuesday.
According to Omotoso, “The Senate committee came to Ekiti yesterday (Tuesday) to ask us questions. We told them what they need to know and presented various evidences that the DSS actually came in a commando manner to our premises.

The federal government yesterday expressed disappointment at the public attitude towards the ongoing anti-graft war, lamenting that the people had not been angry enough about the scale of corruption perpetrated under different administrations in the past decades.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, lamented poor support for Buhari’s anti-corruption war among the masses at Lagos House, Ikeja, after a meeting with the state Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, and other members of the State Executive Council.
