mufutau55: The Client is right, I have always agree that burglary proofs disfigures the house... but we need it for security in Nigeria, but then God is our security anyway. Glad the building is in a secured environment; I didn't know there are still such area in our country.

Oga Hajji, there are areas secure enough for you not forgo a Burglary bar window idea, which is the reasons why some estates these days require short fences.

What type of tile is this you used in the kitchen? You used tiles with some chrome looking metals on the wall. How did that possible. Please, explain it? You are a great designer.

@Fastshipping, the Tile we used were bought for just N2,200/Sq.m in the Market. its all about knowing the right tile and making sure you search through the market Properly. then for the Chrome Metals, its an Idea we always try in incorporate into our tilling work all the time, because, the presence of metal on anything you do in life can make that thing look sophisticated. E.g, we all know how our Necklaces and Chains make us look, compared to how we look when were aren't wearing any.

Also take a look @ the picture below of some of our previous work and see what the tiny looking metal trims in between each black tile has done to the look and visual feel of the tiles.

Client doesnt want Burglary proof, as he says it disfigures the look of his windows. Anyway, house is in a secure Estate environment.

Architecture is a word that qualifies every aspect of our houses. Our bedrooms, living room, Kitchens and the way we want to live in it. The way we finish and the dreams we had before even embarking on what we want to do. As a result, the most important part of architecture is decision making, furthermore, the most important decision making of any Architecture is the decision making of the client/owner. So as a pivotal part of our Architecture, its important that people prioritize properly before embarking on building. and this priority is (1)a: What we want and then (1)b: how to manage our resources in getting it, instead of (2)a: what resources we have and (2)b: what it can give to us. by going with priority (2), we are then at the mercies of the expertise, allowing them to dictate and balance their workload and their own personal desires. But by going with priority (1), we are then able to set a target for our selves, though sometimes, the target can be difficult, but worth every penny, as that is how every great life achievement today was born. Lets embrace good Architecture today, even if not for others, but good Architecture for ourselves. In stringent times, there is a danger that short-term money-saving decisions will be made on new buildings which result in poor solutions that are effectively false economies. Good design is an investment that pays for itself over a building’s lifetime; bad architecture will always cost more; invest now, or pay later.’

High quality architecture and design make a really important contribution both to society and to the economy, particularly when budgets are tight and value for money is key. Ugly, poorly-designed and ill-considered buildings sink the spirits of those who live and work in them, most particularly those who pay for them. And can, at worst, actually help defeat the core purpose of the building itself

I am in the process of tiling my 4 bedroom house in the villa.
I currently require advice on the type of tiles to use and quantity required.
The measurement of the rooms and sitting areas are as detailed below.
Wall
Toilet 1 = 15 cartons
Toilet 2 = 14 cartons
Toilet 3 & 4 = 20 cartons
Kitchen = 15 cartons
Floor
Room 1 = 25sq
Dinning & Sitting Room = 21sq + 34sq
Room 2 & Room 3 = 40sq
Kitchen & Store = 12sq + 4sq
Passage,Corridor & Courtyard = 3sq + 5sq + 7sq
Guest room & small passage = 13sq + 3sq
An artisan, using the building plan, gave me the above estimate, though I
cannot remember the type of tiles, he based is estimate for the Wall tiles
on.
I have also recently met a colleague, who has indicated interest in
supplying the materials (so that I can pay her monthly).
Firstly, I don't know the best fit tiles to use, and the pricing in Lagos.
I want modern but not overly expensive materials. I also, do not want to
use inferior materials or poor Chinese made products.... Over to you well
meaning people

Anyway, as for quantity, you will have to purchase a bit more than the quantity estimated above, so that you aren't in a situation where you'll be short of tiles and have to go back for more and then do not find the exact tiles missing. That can happen almost all the time. then as for pricing, you should be looking between the range of 1,800 to 2,200 for wall tiles and 1,800 to 2,700 for the floor tiles(cheapest of the Good quality tiles). Then as for an idea on identifying a good quality tiles from the China ones, a major tip amongst many is

WALL TILES: You'll hardly ever see a China tile that is Measured 60cm x 30cm only the original ones(spanish Tiles & Italian) come in that measurements, the china ones regularly comes in a 25cm x 40cm dimension. and 2 the china tiles are definitely light weight.
FLOOR TILES: The only identification on floor tiles I can give to you given when there is no professional there with you is that Spanish tiles weigh more than China Tiles and the designs on Original tiles look more precise and definite than China Tiles, mostly with the way the tile designs hit the edges of each tiles.

I hope this info can help a bit more, if not, then you are advised to get a professional or at least a tiller to help for identification.
