I studied law. The police does not just take men to jail and give them restraining orders, there is a process. They do keep records but the first time is usually a warning. Sometimes the women take back what they said (it takes the police sometimes a few hrs to get to a domestic case) and refuse to give statements.

I hope you're not going by hearsay, these statements ur repeating are not urs but a perception that occassionally talked about by those who have never witnessed or being in that situation.

- financial protection (so you don't get easily distracted by a cuter guy with more money)
- physical protection (stopping/preventing other guys from trying to woo you if/when your man becomes aware of it)
