I tried installing hp desjet printer driver, adobe photoshop,nokia pc suite and the list goes on. My system display ''Error 1325 Favorite is not a valid shortfile name'' each time i try to install a software.its really frustrating.I use a DELL D600 LAPTOP.The same softwares can be installed on other DELL D600 Laptop.please help

Sorry, corrupt registry, probably due to malware problems. If it's that same message it shows on any installation you're trying to make. Where do you stay and can u send the details of an examplary program you want to install, Thank you.

Hi people

I started getting an error message since yesterday right from when i start the computer, I have downloaded and ran some free software- including Wise Registry Cleaner, it showed a lot of missing and damaged registry have been cleaned or repaired but this nagging one is still bugging me almost every 4seconds

I have gone to check windows\mstrodlc.dll, google is not coming up with anything about this error, I have read many entries via google pointing to various security systems clashing, could taht be the problem as i have recently installed MSE and Avira some weeks back 

Does anyone know a solution to this error?
Can i delete this[b] c:windows\mstrodlc.dll[/b] as i don't know what it is
unfortunately i have not set up a a back up so I'm avoiding the rebooting option

Your system is probably infected with malwares. You can download a program that automatically delete files on restart, if you don't find one I can write one for you. Another solution is to do it through "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" then type "del /f /a: c:\windows\mstrodlc.dll"
then type shutdown -r -t 00 to restart your system instantly. Good luck,

Nakingson, your case is easy to solve if you have a little knowledge in computer operation. Just open the registry editor, (You can do this by typing regedit in the run window and pressing enter.) Select the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key and search for whatever the name is. For example, search for Asan using Ctrl + F and change the name. If you don't succeed I can write a little script that will do the job for you. Goodluck!

Ok Nakingson, Your case is a little complicated. A good antivirus should have taken care of this of course but all the ones I have used have their setbacks. If you are a little advanced in computer usage, open your registry editor by typing regedit in the run window and pressing enter. Select the Hkey Local Machine key and use Ctrl + F to search for the name the virus is using on your desktop. When you find it, rename it to what you want. It can be a little complex but that's what you can do. Anyway, if you encounter problems doing it I can help you by writing a simple script for that. Goodluck.

If your hard disk type is SATA, the process might sound a little complex. Check somewhere in this thread. This issue has been treated before. Thanks

You have to be more subtle with your language. You are using an old version of internet explorer, probably 6. It might not be able to recongize some scripts especially if you are using a tunneler. Try upgrading your browser

It might not be a virus. The area you are talking about appear to be the numpad area of the laptop. It might also be a hardware problem. Also a virus can hook some keys but that is quite unlikely. Do what blackweaver told you, try external keyboards or try the on-screen keyboard, then you will get an idea of where the problem might be from. Goodluck.

@rowenagold: It's unfortunate your system has been attacked by malwares. I assume you had wanted to install avira which does not run if crc check fails. If you are not able to install an antivirus I'm afraid you might need to install a new operating system. YOu don't need to format your system, just install a new one on top of the old one and give me a feedback. Sorry.
